Alright Sweihan boys and girls, we are less than 12 hours from the start of the drive. Convoy Numbering would be announced during the briefing. See you at 5:00 AM. P.S. Those who arrive late by the usual couple of minutes, will be volunteering for all the shoveling duties for tomorrow. 😂

Dear friends, it was a beautiful drive this morning. Departure facing the rising sun through the farms of Tawi Nizwa, the first set was smooth and easy, finding our way among the dunes, riding the smooth crests, going down a small slip face, progressively coming closer to Camel Rock. Reaching an elevated position, we had our first break, enjoying the view among the dunes until the last cars could clear a crossing that became soft. From there we made our way in the direction of Big Red, the dunes and ridges were becoming higher requiring more focus to keep the lines especially through some soft patches. Reaching Big Red itself, the faces were more steep, and a delicate crossing, going up, then down on the slip face, had at least 3 or 4 cars stuck, requiring shovelling team work. At this point the passenger of @Jose Thomas was not feeling well and was asking for an early exit. We rerouted to reach the tarmac, and @Michel Van Woudenberg took this opportunity to exit also, for the same reason. With a slightly shorter convoy, we were back on the sand for a few climbs along Big Red. Then, with more manoeuvrability, we tackled the succession of bowls and climbs of a tall dune. It was a pleasure to push the pace, and to see the convoy responding very well. …until @Suresh K got dragged into a deep pocket of soft sand. The recovery required a bit of time and efforts, and thanks to the hoist of @Hisham Masaad, he was able to get out without too much troubles. It was then time to reach the exit, and we did so crossing a last patch of technical dunes. Excellent 2nd lead from, @Federico Galbieri always keeping appropriate distance, and rerouting when needed, @Alfred Alinazar well driven, don’t hesitate on top of crests, keep enjoying, @Suresh K try to watch more the car in front on you to identify possible difficulties ahead, and focus on the instructions during recoveries, you will gain more confidence, @Jose Thomas also watch ahead to identify difficulties and be focused on the track, @Haitham Khattab well driven, watch your fish tailing on the side slopes, @Sergio Big Dawg nice to meet you, if you can drive more frequently, you will easily gain confidence, @Michel Van Woudenberg it was a pleasure to see the FJ40 on the sand, and you know how to handle it in the middle of a convoy, @Beide Worku, no issue at all, you have handled the F150 perfectly even in tight areas and over the crests, @Gerrit Bus always a pleasure to see the Gladiator in a drive, well driven also, @Tareck very reliable sweep as usual, thank you. I hope the weather will be on our side tomorrow , nevertheless please make sure to arrive on time at 05:00 ,or bit earlier the better, so we can move not later than 5:30 once you arrive to the meeting point ( https://goo.gl/maps/R1d7HHzgKzm3gDe76 )please immediately switch on your radio on channel 3 ( 446056 ) and start deflating to 12 PSI regardless of your tire type .please disable all your controls ( traction , airbags .. etc either by pulling off the appropriate fuse or via a kill switch if you have within your cockpit ) Put on your flags and make sure that your items are secured and ain’t loose in your truck . Dear Sand Sailors Wow, what a convoy it's shaping up to be. It's a small convoy with Big vehicles- we have it all from F150 to Y62, LWB Jeeps to Pajeros and ofcourse the ever reliable Fj. And to top it all an equally diverse experience level - this is going to be fun 🙂🙂 This convoy size and overall diversity offers us a lot to play around - both in terms of what we can cover en-route as well as how we can play around with convoy order. So my plan is to have a dynamic, flexible concept drive. We will start off with order as below and based on how things go will shuffle around things to see how we can maximize experience for us all. Meeting Time - 5am sharp without any exception. We will be using Channel 2 on radio. My mobile number is 050 4430 882. In case reqd feel free to contact. Followed by @Warren Flay in his Golden Pajero as SL (last time you were Sweep so let's start off with something diff this time). @FiNaR in his F150 kicking off his first FB drive at number 3. @sri ganesh in his Pajero at number 4. Then at number 5 comes the big news of drive - due to some car issue unfortunately @Shaaz Sha won't be able to join however we have @GauravSoni - the master of theme based drives. He in his LWB Pajero will be keeping the convoy strong in the Centre position.. Number 6 will be the @Jona in FJC. @salah2u in Patrol at number 7 And @Naim Aoun at number 8 sweeping the convoy in Jeep Wrangler. Looking forward to see you all at starting point. Dear all Desert Surfers, It was a pleasure to meet all of you today at Faqaa for the drive under @GauravSoni's lead. We started at 5.30 to exit at 9.30. Absolute stunner of a drive as expected from @GauravSoni. Its good to see a lead climbing on top of dunes and directing the convoy through difficult patches. Also not shying of taking out a shovel if its required and enough. So many times when I thought Gaurav would resort to using a rope he stubbornly insisted the old fashion way of shoveling. Reminded me of my early days in Carnity when Marshals like @Ale Vallecchi, @Wrangeld, @Chaitanya D, @Foxtrot Oscar, @Gaurav, @Rahimdad, @Frederic, @Vanessa8580 will climb up on the dunes and direct the convoy and shovel out a stuck. Thank you Gauravsoni for the traditional way. I can see you are on the track to be called Professor Gaurav with these actions and proper briefing with a toy car on how to criss cross, climb straight up, slide slope, ridge ride which are the essential skills demanded of an off roader. The track was good, bit bumpy but thats how offroading tracks are. Anyone shouldn't be expecting a smooth highway like the Sheikh Zayed Road in the middle of the desert. Sand was smooth and soft without any cross tracks. We achieved our target in time shows the quality of the convoy. Special thanks to Goutham @Looper, Gokul @Gok Krish & Prashanth @Pacific for the level headed and cool support extended whenever needed. Special commendations to @Tareq Al Turq for driving well in his 1st Fewbie Plus drive and to @Imteeaz, @salah2u, @DP1011 , Deepak wrangler, @Senthil Kumar, @Prakash Anoop, @KAMALIO, @ASAD. for joining the drive, driving well and exiting together at Solar Park. It was fun driving with you all and nice knowing some new faces, SEE YOU ALL SOON WROOMING IN THE SANDS. Will post some pictures in the gallery soon.

Dear Desertnauts Mystery solved! Based on the strength of the convoy we'll push a bit harder and a bit further, heading from Bab al Shams' Oryx feeding ground to Ghantoot's Oryx herds. Meeting point posted here: https://maps.app.goo.gl/zdU11j1wZpNPtdsn7 It's the usual place where we meet for Absolute Newbie drives. From here we'll reach by dirt track the Crescent Lake, to proceed south west toward Ghantoot's outskirts.
