  1. No shovels. No recovery rope. No hassle. Just a breezy drive in the dunes mixed with climbs, side sloping and ridge riding. And a chunk of technical terrain thrown in to make it all complete! Thanks @Rizwanm2the variety was great and everyone made fantastic progress. Nice to see Big Red area from both sides, it was so picturesque in the morning. First time for me to see Ghost Town after hearing so much about it. Wife enjoyed every moment of it too! WIN! ☺️ Thanks to @Alexanderrr@Zixuan Huang - Charlie @Karthik Raptorfor the invaluable support! See you all soon!

  4. Thank you @Rizwanm2for such an amazing special drive. The weather was so nice, Track was perfectly chosen, and the finishing off with a visit to “ghost town” was spectacular. Thank you @Zixuan Huang - Charlie for CF and Support, and @Karthik Raptorfor sweep and clear communication. The whole drive was flawless and the whole convoy drove very well, one of the rare drives with no shovels or tugs. Pleased to meet new friends and see old fellows. See you all on Sand soon.

  5. Perfect plan to execution... This is what happened today on ideal friday morning with perfect weather and bunch of perfectly synced offroaders. Everything false in places as i wanted and ultimately we had an awesome drive. thank you everyone for coming ontime. We had the brief soon after 6.30 and we are off. By 7.15 we were at the pink rock and by 8.00 we are at the big red. It is one of fastest drive i ever had in this area. It was collective effort by everyone. The convoy was free flowing like a dream and i was able push all the way till end without any hicups. We didn't touch any recovery gear today. Only couple of refusals all managed perfectly with self recovery. Initially when i posted the drive i was bit reluctant and not sure how i will be able to cover distance of 2 drives in 1 single drive. But alhamdulillah with an amazingly capable drivers we were able achieve the distance even before the time out. @Alexanderrr @Mike. The pajero gang was right behind me you both did excellent. @Muhammad Qasim @TT_Dubai the FJ gang showed their flying colors of their capabke machine's. Tbe Wrangler boys @Haitham Khattab @Patrick van der Loo. I hardly heared anything from you guys. Means you guys were enjoying the drive as much as i did. @Zixuan Huang - Charlie your assitance from middle of the convoy for all self recovery is much appreciated. @Karthik Raptor thank you very much for sweeping the convoy and keep everyone safe at the back of of the convoy. Our special guest @Hisham Masaad always pleasure to have you. Hope everyone had great start for the weekend. See you all next time. Cheers.

  7. @Rizwanm2you managed a perfect drive. We covered the distance at a really nice pace. @Zixuan Huang - Charliethank you again for the pressure recommendation. Dropping to 9 really made a massive difference. Especially with a (relatively) light car such as mine it improved grip and made for less spinning on the rear wheels.

  8. It was a perfect drive, very well lead by @Rizwanm2 with the right mix of high range dunes, some past paced crossovers and technical terrain ending up at the ghost village, spot on time. Very well executed by the entire convoy, didn't have to take the shovel even once, which proves the fluidity of the entire drive, great driving all! Good to meet some new fellow desert lovers and old buddies. Always a pleasure to have @Hisham Masaadwith his experience and solidarity in the convoy, and @Zixuan Huang - Charlieas CF. Thank you everyone and have a great weekend! Take care.

  9. Previously I was on the fence about buying an action-cam for recording drives. I already had a Sony FDR 3000 4K, but I rarely used it. Dashcam footage from my 70mai seemed good enough. However, dashcam footage just accumulated, having stored 100+ drives footage on my NAS and I did nothing except edit a couple of drives which involved removing the stucks and refusals. It is difficult to get action footage from a 3-hour long drive and one needs professional video editing software to make it look better and cut to aspect ratios for social media shares. Looking at all the social media it was clear that 360 camera was the way to go. Luckily for me when I finally decided to take a plunge, Insta 360 launched their new X3. I did look at GoPro Max but decided against it because of two reasons. The camera has not been updated in some time now, it is more than 3 years old now. I hate the entire subscription model in GoPro world, and Insta 360 has a great app as well. How does it fare with GoPro 11 or DJI Action 3? Many who want to buy this camera would also consider a GoPro or DJI Action 3. They are both good cameras and they both have a slight advantage in the single lens camera department. If you need high frame rates GoPro or DJI Action 3 are necessary. The use case for them vis a vis Insta 360 X3 is different. For off-road driving, 360 will be more useful since we don’t have to worry about reframing the camera toward the direction of the action as it keeps shifting. If you have seen social media the 360 seems to be the default way to go for showing off-road driving. Plus, Insta X3's me mode and Single lens mode do what those action cams will do while removing the need for any reframing. How does it compare with Insta360 One X2? If you already have an X2, it will do 90% of what X3 does. But if you are looking at buying a new one then X3 makes a lot more sense. X3’s new two-inch screen is a substantial upgrade from X2. X3 has a better sensor at 1/ 2" compared to 1/ 2.5” on the X2. X3 has a f/1.9 aperture compared to f/2.0 on X2. X3 also records 4k 30 while X2 can only do 2.7k 30 on single lese. Both will do 5.7k on dual lease. Where to buy? I will suggest buying the action-cam and the initial accessories kit directly from the Insta 360 website, for a couple of reasons: you will be able to buy Insta360 Care that protects you from accidental damage, and they repair your camera and cover the shipping both ways, and a 2year extended warranty while you buy the camera. you will be able to buy more accessories and in my case some of them were cheaper on their website. Because it was recently launched few are available on Amazon. How much does it cost? It is cheaper in the US at USD 449, but when you order online to UAE it is EUR 529. They do have some bundles, but they cost the same as the sum of parts. How long does it take to reach here? It gets shipped in a day or two from China and will be delivered in about a week time. What Accessories to buy? Insta360 X3 Sticky Lens Guards: Protection for both your lenses. Sticks directly on the lens to safeguard from dust and scratches. Insta360 X3 Lens Cap: Extra, all-round protection for your lenses. You can use it when in the field, but you are not actively using the camera. Otherwise, I assume you would keep it in a protective case. Extra Insta360 X3 Battery: Have at least one extra. It comes in a small box. Fast Charge Hub: If you want to charge multiple batteries at the same time. Invisible Selfie Stick: You have three options. 70 cm, 120 cm and a combination of tripod extending to 105 cm. There is an extended edition selfie stick that as well can be extended to 300 cm. Bullet Time Accessory: You have two options. There is a bullet time cord which is cheaper and a Tripod that can be attached to the invisible selfie stick. GPS Smart Remote: While initially I did not recommended but the new version of GPS remote is a very good option and recommended to be bought along with the camera. Other items to consider depending on your usage: There are a lot more items available such as Insta360 X3 Quick Reader, Mic Adaptor, Utility Frame, Quick Release Mount that works with GoPro Accessories. Vibration Damper, and many kits that seemed irrelevant to me but your milage will vary. Things to avoid from Insta360: Insta360 X Series Carry Case: It fits only 70 cm stick and a battery box. Many other accessories you might have would not fit in it so suggest going for a third-party case from Amazon. Memory Card: On amazon for far less cost, and a lot more storage.

  12. Dear dune surfers, thankyou for signing up for the drive! As I mentioned in the drive post, This is going to be a fast paced drive with an aim to reach Shuwaib which is 54 KM on a line on the planned route. This translates that we would be driving at least 100+ Km through the dunes to reach our destination. there would be no stopping for play areas and we will make it fun on the go. Long range drives ( which I experienced under @Ale Vallecchi leads) gave me a sense of satisfaction which is what I think all of you will feel at the end of the drive. Such drives require undivided attention and precision driving. I am already excited and eagerly waiting for the cool Saturday morning!

  13. Has anyone here used Michelin LTX for regular sand driving? Appreciate any review or feedback, please. LTX M/S 2 (moderate 4x4 tread) LTX A/T 2 (Proper AT tread, aggressive) I used LTX M/S long ago and love the rubber quality and sand flotation, it was amazing on sand (being very light) BUT not for wadi and rocks. Also, it lasted close to 60K kms without any aging issues. Now it seems Michelin added A/T too, which can potentially persuade me to ditch Geolander on the next tire change.

  14. Thank you @Frederic for the fantastic drive in the amazing dunes of Sweihan - its definitely one of my favorite spots for off-roading. Having the privilege to follow @Srikumarand @Frederic was a great learning experience. I throughly enjoyed the drive from start to finish. Thanks @Rizwanm2 and @Kailas for the double-sweep and an especially big thanks to @Daniel Rodas for pulling me from Old Lady and to @Haitham Khattab, @Zed and @Imran Kashif whom I can always count on for mechanical advice and any kind of help! I hope we can all do another drive again soon! P.S: I posted some pictures in the gallery

  19. Dear Sand Sailors @MMansoor @Daniel Rodas @Niki @Mahmoud Taha @Yusuf Esaf WL - @salah2u @Imran Kashif Thanks for RSVPing for the drive. I am sure most of you have been to Faqa and some already have had chance to explore Little Sweihan. Both of these are my go to areas when in need for an adrenaline pump. And this attempt to combine them both together is really aspirational to say the least. We will need to be fast and we will need to be focussed - at all time. Even for me this will be first attempt as lead to try and cover both of these terrain together - so I am super excited and eagerly waiting for the weekend already. So make sure you plan your week in a way that you are well rested for Sunday. Ensure your vehicles are in their healthiest best. It will be challenging, it will test ours and our vehicle capabilities -in course make us all a better off roaders. See you all on Sunday. Ciao

  34. Dear Desert Drivers, Nice to see a full group already motivated from the beginning of the week ! In the drive on Saturday we will explore a portion of the Sweihan area that is not driven so often. Starting from the E16, just at the outside of Sweihan town, we will drive West, parallel to the E20, until we reach the E75 on the other side. Expect empty portions of desert, some high dunes, mainly in the first portion, long virgin ridges, with bushes and shrubs in the lower parts of the dunes, and technical portions with soft sand with some nasty hidden pockets. All this will require your full skills and attention. Depending on how we progress, will use some sabkha areas to link between the dune portions. We may drive up to 80km, ensure you have enough fuel at he start of the drive. Stay tuned, more info to come tomorrow, with final list and convoy order. Let me know before that in case you changed your plans.

  41. It was an unfortunate end for a good drive, seeing the LC70 disappear behind the dune. The 10 seconds of silence on the radio, not knowing what happened, seemed to be forever and hearing @M.Seidam asking Mohamed if he was awake and asking him to talk was hard to listen to. Well said, everyone; we are practising this extreme sport and cautious, with full attention and being safe is the way to go to minimise risks. God was with us all and especially with Mohammed, and lucky us to have @M.Seidam and @Hisham Masaad and such an amazing team which everyone did participate in the best way possible @Waqas Parvez mate you rock, @Zed@Zixuan Huang - Charlie@ASAD.@Imran Kashif@Daniel Yang@Karthik Raptor great job with getting Anwar well taking care of in your car and @Abdelghani Although I had to go for work after confirming with @M.Seidam , I couldn't leave before seeing Mohamed leaving safely with the ambulance after the medics confirmed that the pain was no more than a bruise because of the seatbelt when rolling over and happy to hear Mohammed explaining to @M.Seidam that his wallet was in the black and yellow Stanley bag meant to me that he is also in a full concentration. @Mohamad Anwer Happy to hear that you are safe and sound, and hopefully, you will put this behind your back soon so we can see on the sand again.

  47. Sun is shining.... the weather is sweet Yeah! With the temps finally settling down a bit, i was looking forward for a morning on the sand with the fellow Carniteers We started from the Nahel side, as i was adamant on avoiding other clubs and crosstracks and tried finding some cleaner areas. To all our surprise, this area was virgin and had some nice play areas in store for us ! We made our way down south and had our fill in all sorts of ways. All of you drove amazing today, and we covered good ground. I wanted to top it off with a visit to the old lady dune, which we approached from the back and where @Rizwanm2 did a nice strike 😁 Jeeper Boys @Haitham Khattab @Ignacio Quindós@Kailas@Gok Krishand of course @Srikumar breathing in my neck you all were amazing today. Xterra mafioso @Lawrence_Chehimi and @Rizwanm2 you guys rocked ! Keeping the Pajero team alive @Daniel Rodas brought his new colleague and showed what a Pajero can do ! Amazing ! LC10000000000 driver @Zed driving the snot out of his LC as usual 😁 And FJ power in the name of @Imran Kashif - always with a big smile behind the wheel 😁 All in all a pretty systematic drive, as you can expect from a guy like me 🤣 Get ready for more adventures along the E95 the coming months !
