Morning everyone. Just noticed that Google maps was acting up (again). So I have updated the meeting point mentioning the coordinates. The meeting point is next to the mosque I will be closing the RSVP by this evening and will then announce the convoy numbering. Please go through the important points once again. Most important is to keep your car as light as possible. It will help to exit the bowls on your own and will also help incase we need to pull you out. 😂 But dont compromise on your recovery gear. The last time I was there in Pajero Bowl, we needed all the ropes that we had to get the car out.

Hi folks, I have had my Wrangler for more than 3 years now, but never taken it for a desert drive with open top. Weather is fantastic, So I am thinking of posting a drive with only open Wranglers/ Broncos. I would like to take interest of other Wrangler/ Bronco members. Plan is to have a Fewbie level drive end of January if we have enough interest. I am sure main concern would be about sand and dust going inside the car. Hence if we plan this drive, we will try our best to minimize sand going inside by avoiding any self recoveries that may throw sand in, avoid dusty path etc. Prior to the drive, we could also help each other in getting the top off from the vehicle I have added a poll to gauge the interest. NB drive???? Who said? But what about the drives, they are newbies? I say, it is modesty. Yes, it wasn’t at all NB drive, it was FB+. As i mentioned in my briefing, the drive was supposed to be FB+ in badayer. While finalizing the drives last weekend, it got changed to NB, and i thought will not change location and keep it badayer. Eventually, with the masters, it turned out as i planned, FB+ drive. Thank you very much @MohamedSherif @Rk ram @rohit kumarfor making the day. It was simply amazing and fun. All made it on time, briefing and started moving… moving … moving…no issues 🤔🤔🤔..what’s going on? All good Deepak in the back? Yes all good. OK, will start small climb's, no issues. Higher …. No issues, then that’s it. I have realized I have drivers behind me, if I don’t satisfy, they will leave me an go by themselves 😅.The result is self explanatory down. In moving time about 2 hours, we made about 54km, i gave up. I have to keep something for these guys to see in the upper levels drives, and thought all had enough and can leave 1 hours ahead of time. Thank you very much for @Pacific and @DP1011 , Deepak wrangler for joining and supporting. I know you didn’t have much to do, but still I have to be grateful. Wish you all nice weekend, and look forward to see you again.

Good point @Looper regarding the switch area. For wranglers JL, the sand and dust can pass through the switch gaps and can make the switches stuck. I had to change the whole panel once as the hazard lights were not going off. If not under warranty, it can cost 2K plus. So I got the below cap that can be easily put on during desert drives, and I remove once the drive is over. It gives complete protection to the switch area. Additionally when I take the hard top off, I have a sun shade protection. This can help reduce the sand coming inside.

That’s the total fuel that you have to have so inside the tank and jerrycan together 😁

And I loved the way u planned it, start, get on a high dune , coffee and watch sunrise and then quick drive ( which lasted 3+ hours😂) @Tharun Kumar V @premindra rajaram @Pranjal Varsani1 Must say everyone drove brilliantly, No sidesloping at all, and quickly picking up on distancing and ridge riding! also admire their patience, it was anothet great learning experience, I realised later, we used 1 rope for first car, 2 ropes for second car and 3 ropes for third car😎🙌🏼! Looking forward to these , perhaps also a sunset drive next?😎 P.S : Special thanks to @Looper I ensured that I join this drive😂!

My first drive with rooftop removed, I significantly understimated the potential today and from automode moved to manual, with those sandsplashes, I was just wondering what next and when do we pull out rope or shovel - But disappointed😂😂, My first NB drive without rope or shovel being used, and neither 4low!!! kudos and congratulations to some amazing FBs in making!! @rohit kumar @Rk ram @MohamedSherif! @Pacific as always great to see u and have u as part of convoy. @Hisham Masaad : By todays benchmark, you know what a FB+ drive should be now Fantastic day! Not there else I would have loved to join you guys. Drove topless a couple of years ago. It was an IM drive with @Srikumar and I was in a sandstorm. Just make sure after the drive you use your compressor to dust off the dashboard, especially all the nooks and corners of the buttons. @Kailas has a cover to protect the switch board panel which is a better idea.

Good morning @Vanessa8580 I just wanted to confirm where the fuel requirement is listed; 6 cylinder cars require 100-120 liters of petrol is this total fuel? or extra fuel in jerry cans? apologies for the silly question just don't want to show up with too much or too little 😂

@Gary F I Rekon this is the best time to do a drive like this. I think it would be awesome and a great idea too. I manage to bring the desert home with me after every single drive with the roof on couldn't imagine what it would be like with it off 😂

Been considering this myself @Kailas, its a great idea, we have only taken the entire roofs of our Jeep’s once, it was fun but too warm at the time, this is an idea time of year for it. I think it would be a lot of fun but we would need to schedule a stop by the car wash with a big vacuum on the way home 😀 what do you think @Benjamin ?

@Kailasyou mean complete roof or just the roof panel on the front. Only jeep drive sounds good to me.

Dear Desertnauts let's prepare for Saturday's orbit in our Solar Park "system" of dunes, sabkhas and mixed terrain. We will leave from the outskirts of Solar Park's Innovation Center (the iconic glass spire visible from a most parts of Qudra and Lisaili), launching the convoy in a southern direction, across the so-called "Middle Earth", spinning off at Little Sweihan, slinging eastward toward Lisaili. Once there, upon reaching the furthest point from the "sun", we'll revert our course, heading first north to the boundary between Murqab and Lisaili, and finally, racing through Lisaili itself, we'll travel southward, all the way back to the Solar Park tarmac road. The drive will maintain a relatively fast pace, all things considered, but since the goal is to complete the relatively long counter revolution, and not to beat any speed record, we may reduce the speed, to insure a safer and smoother progress along our orbit. The convoy has been built keeping in mind the power of each driver's car, together with their current rank and previous experience, and will line up as follows: @Chris Wing in Second Lead @Paolo Pellegrini at #3 @Mike M. at #4 @Jaro Tuzinsky will be #5 @Jona #6 @Mehmet Volga will Center the convoy @Daniel Rodas at #8 @Gerrit Bus #9 @Ashutosh Garg will take #10 @Charbel #11, and @Mohamad Anwer will Sweep the convoy. The radio channel has not yet been decided and will be confirmed upon reaching the meeting point. Come ready for a lengthy drive, bringing along your love for the desert. While offroading, we cross dunes by using different methods, based on how the dune is formed and what the drive level is. Once you have spent some time in the desert, you will slowly start to pay more attention to the dune formations and how we cross them. Once you reach Intermediate and Advance level, you'll need to start learning how to read these dunes in order to navigate and create your planned routes in the desert. As a rule of thumb, the prevailing wind in UAE is blowing from a North-Western direction to South-East direction from 10AM onwards. At night and in early morning it will be reversed and blow from the South-East to North-West. This is something you should remember and you will notice when you zoom into certain areas with your navigation app (Google Maps, Gaia, MotionX, Mytrails,...) you will notice that the wind from that side has caused the dunes to take on their shape. This is a general rule and will not always apply, as you will see that in certain areas where wind is coming from different directions, you will see for example "star" dunes appearing. There are different types of dunes which are separately described below. As you can see in below picture, a dune is formed when the prevailing wind blows on a mound of sand, where the grain will move into the wind direction and create a ridge. The sand which falls on the other side of the ridge, creates a slipface, and this sand is not compacted by the wind. This is the main reason why we generally drive on the prevailing wind side or the convex side of the dunes on the Newbie level. "A dune is a curiously dynamic creature," wrote Farouk El-Baz in National Geographic. “Once formed, a dune can grow. It can change shape and move with the wind. It can even breed new dunes. Some of these offspring may be carried on the back of the mother dune. Others are born and race downwind, outpacing their parents. [Source: Farouk El-Baz, National Geographic, February 1982] The shape of dunes is affected by things like the strength, direction and consistency of the winds; the consistency and amount of sand; the hardness of the terrain and the amount of vegetation. Below we will describe the most common dunes found in the UAE. Different Dunes Crescent or Barchan Dune This is the most common dune. It forms the shape of a crescent moon when the wind blows from one direction. We generally use the words concave and convex to describe both sides of the dune: * Concave is a shape that curves inwards. * Convex is a shape that curves outwards. Crescent-shaped mounds generally are wider than long. On the concave side you will have the slipface. These dunes form under winds that blow from one direction, and they also are known as barchans. Parabolic Dune A parabolic dune is similar in shape to a barchan, but it is just the opposite. The tips of this dune point into the wind, and its main body migrates with the wind, forming a depression between the tips. Because of this formation, parabolic dunes are also known as blowout dunes. These dunes often occur when vegetation stabilizes sediments and a U-shaped blowout forms between clumps of plants. Their length can range from a few meters to many kilometers and their height from a couple meters high to a couple hundred meters high. Wind pushes the sand and forms ridges parallel to the prevailing wind direction with slip faces either side of the crest. Linear dunes are straight or slightly sinuous sand ridges typically much longer than they are wide. They may be more than 160 kilometers long. Linear dunes may occur as isolated ridges, but they generally form sets of parallel ridges separated by miles of sand, gravel, or rocky interdune corridors. Some linear dunes merge to form Y-shaped compound dunes. Many form in bidirectional wind regimes. The long axes of these dunes extend in the resultant direction of sand movement. Barchanoid Dunes These ridges are similar to Barchan dunes. They are connected in long crescentic waves as the sand supply is much greater than that which forms a Barchan Dune. Star Dunes These dunes are formed when there are several prevailing wind directions - there is a complex wind regime. Typically there are three or more slip faces, whilst the dunes do not migrate they grow in height. Star dunes are radially-symmetrical, spyramidal sand mounds with slipfaces on three or more arms that radiate from the high center of the mound. They are created when the winds blow equally from every direction, causing the sand dune to grow many extensions and resemble a star. They are rare and are fairly stable and remain in the same place. Some are landmarks with names. 600km off-road ? Fuel requirement is mentioned here: Fuel requirement: 6 Cyl cars = 100 Liter (Minimum) - 120 Liter (for more fuel-guzzling cars) 8 Cyl cars = 120 Liter (Minimum) - 140 Liter (for more fuel-guzzling cars) Carry an additional required number of jerry cans based on your car fuel tank capacity. As you have a V8 you will need to have a minimum of 120l of petrol (combination of gas tank + jerry cans). This is mandatory without exceptions. Of course if your main tank is already 120 liters then you are good.

You could use either the ADNOC Wagan or ADNOC Al Qua. Both are open 24 hours. ADNOC Qua is a bit closer to the meeting point but you need to cross the meeting point and then return. Please ensure that your filled to the absolute brim. There is no CAFU service inside the Pajero Bowl

@SrikumarI will have to exit this drive due to a cracked water pump and crank seal broken resulting in oil leak. Though i was looking forward for the drive and the agency guys provided me with coolant bottle incase any heating up takes place decided not to mess up the drive for others. Enjoy guys and be safe.
