  1. @Alain Canivet-Abikhalil @Marwan Haddad @Christopher Assal @Zixuan Huang @Lakshmi Narasimhan @Sunil Mathew @Darren Brooke @TT_Dubai @darren thompson @RooRzOn@Veedooshee Hello again, Thank you so much everybody for all the comments, pictures and videos ๐Ÿ™. Pretty much everything is nicely covered in the above comments. It was pleasure to meet and drive with each one you. Coincidentally, the drive had only LWB vehicles, there was no SWB at all, it appeared as if it was an only LWB drive๐Ÿ˜€. As planned, we encountered different types of terrains along the way which gave us a good mixture and exposure where we got to learn from each other and practice. We started from the bushy area of Murquab and to its wonderful play areas too. After enjoying the play areas and some nice sideys, we headed towards the long range dunes of Lisaili, however to reach there, we went through technical terrains. Surprisingly, there was no refusal or stuck considering the huge vehicles in the convoy and tight dunes. All drivers tackled the challenge very elegantly. When we reached the Lisaili area, Darren Brooke got stuck on the side of super soft part of the dune. With the help of Rawad, Lakshmi, TT and Darren we were able to shovel and displaced lots sand to clear the resistance. Darrenโ€™s car was moving but since it was on super soft sand there was long way to reach flat ground or getting enough traction . Considering the angle of the car and there was not much space to tug, I decided to give few soft tugs to correct the angle to begin with. But then, I noticed actually Laksmi has a winch which we did use instead as it was much easier and quicker. The winch recovery was nice executed by both Lakshmi and Darren. As usual, Lisaili long range dunes never disappoint you and we tried to make the most of it though we were running short of time, until we started following the sunset and work our way towards Qudra which was scenic and picturesque. Through out the drive, we did get few refusal due to lack of momentum which with some more practise you will easily learn to build right momentum I would like to thank all of you for making the drive enjoyable. I am very thankful to the support from Lakshmi and Rawad for their assistance with recoveries and keeping the team together. And they also went extra mile to join us to escort Darren because while exiting he noticed that he was having a voltage fluctuation which was more likely a loose connection, but once on road the glitch disappeared. It was an amazing team spirit and care shown for each other. Lastly, I would like to thank my co-pilot Veedooshee for her unparalleled support.

  4. Dear Desertnauts. Here's the last update about tomorrow's AM drive: our objective will be to complete the crossing of these 2 areas - Al Aweer to Lahbab, and Lahbab to Mahafiz the major skill we will practice in these areas will be ridge-riding, in a very controlled situation (not quite in a straight line, but rather steering along curvy ridges) the second objective, if time will allow, will be to extend the drive to Nazwa's outskirts, through a mix of long range dunes and technical areas, and a mix of criss-crossing and finesse driving. The convoy numbering will be the following: @Alain Canivet-Abikhalil in Second Lead @Anoop Nair at #3 @Warren Flay at #4 @Tareck will be #5 @Nivin will cover Center Forward @Hardik Mody is going to drive at #7 @Richard Franks at #8 @Adhir Saxena at #9 @Chinthaka Ruwan will wear #10 @Yusuf Esaf is going to be #11, and @Darren Brooke will Sweep the concoy. Please reach the meeting point, just at the outskirts of Al Aweer, in time, and start deflating, taking into account the need to face soft sand, and increasing temoeratures, as the drive progresses. In reaching the meeting point, pay attention to road works, and a detour to reach Al Aweer coming from Dubai, which is taking place on E611. The road works may cause delays in reaching the location. Once on location, please tune into Carnity Channel #2 (446.031). Looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow. Have a great evening.

  7. Dear Desert Wanderers, this RSVP is now closed. Please find below the convoy order for our drive: Should @GauravSoni not confirm his presence, the convoy order will remain unmodified, with @JeromeFJ following directly @Darren Brooke in position no. 6. @Werno, @RooRzOn, @Abdul Rahman AK, @Darren Brooke, @Gaurav Soni, @JeromeFJ, @Lakshmi Narasimhan, @Danish Mohammad, @Russ, @MUHAMMAD Kashif RAZZAQ, this drive is going to be quite demanding from a technical point of view due to the additional complexity coming with the limited visibility. It will require a great deal of concentration at every step, so make sure you come well rested and hydrated and that and you donโ€™t have any reason for being distracted. If you plan to eat before the drive, please do so early enough in order to avoid ending up with discomfort during the drive. Please remember to wear closed shoes and long trousers, in order to prevent unpleasant encounters with scorpions or snakes that are more frequently roaming around. Also, please consider carefully if you wish to bring passengers along with you. We will be using Carnity Channel 4 (446.08125Mhz) See you later, ready to go (i.e. already caffeinated, deflated, flagged and briefed) by no later 7:00pm (sharp), so make sure you make it to the meeting point at least by 6:45pm. The meeting point is confirmed as per initial drive post: E102 Sharjah - Kalba Road, Khatam Exit - https://goo.gl/maps/jm81jL8cLwADN65R8

  13. Dear DesertnautsUAE, Normally I would by now have posted quite a few comments about what to expect on this drive, but it's just been one of those weeks where time slipped away and I did not find the time to explain the plan for Friday. As advertised, this drive is for the people that do not want to get up at the crack of dawn and don't want to be driving into the middle of the night. Well that was my plan until it transpired I am supporting a morning drive as well! Anyhow, what's the idea? It's a newbie drive - so nothing extreme. Starting anywhere in Lisaili does mean that there will be a little bit of technical complexity at the start of the drive. That's unavoidable. As most people that know me know I love the technical dunes, so in fact the challenge for me will be that I am having to keep the convoy out of the most challenging areas, while still giving everyone a taste for these dunes. We will then get the chance to enjoy some amazing wide, relatively high and swooping dunes all the way into the Al Qudra area. Depending on how the convoy is performing and the time we might try to detour round the side of Qudra (where most people camp) and make our way to Last Exit - but let's not set up any expectations yet. The drive will take in sunset and we will be driving at night. So be prepared for the completely different experience of night driving. I warn you that the experience can be disconcerting the first time out (and the second and third), made all the more challenging because the sand is very very soft late in the evening because it spent the whole day baking under the sun. It's also hot. We will start in temperatures around 45C and it probably will not go much below 40C the whole drive. Below is my proposed convoy as things stand at 3pm on Thursday - but who knows what will happen until we leave on Friday! @Christopher Assal @rajeshkumar rathod @Abdul Rafay-S @Lakshmi Narasimhan @Mohamed Samaco @Anand Nataraj @Glenn Waters @arjumand @Gaurav Soni @shu yang @Haris Javed @Janarthan See you soon in the sand.

I went a few times with my 4X4 in the desert but I still need more practice that's the reason why I'm joining the club Yes, the Ford is equipped with front and rear towpoints Looking forward meeting you, Best Regards, Brahim.

  24. Was a wonderful, nice, technical mid week drive , thanks to @Anish S and support team @Lakshmi Narasimhan, @RooRzOn. and 2L @Alain Canivet-Abikhalil....and not to forget @Marwan Haddad who created a new position called 3rd Lead ๐Ÿ˜‚ as L and 2L were in-seperable at times due to the nature of terrain !! the drive was worth the early "bunk" from my worksite ๐Ÿ˜‰, every minute Right mix of intense technical stuff and fast paced long range dunes, cross overs, broad ridge rides etc. Sustaining long sideys still prove to be a challenge for me, as i lost confidence mid way on couple of them, and exited early. Waiting for the right technique to present itself, as i get to practice more . This mound of sand on long side slopes, created by the cars in front always scares me, as a pivot for roll overs, so the moment i see a fairly high sand mound, my mind goes blank ๐Ÿ˜ƒ Tried to create some video links..excuse the quality and vibration...taken with iphone on a 50AED holder

  25. Hi @Chaitanya D I donโ€™t have any experience on off road, I have driven in the desert but never gone in to the dunes. I got a Ford Ranger and front and rear tow hooks should be in good condition as I have never used them before! I donโ€™t have any of the gear, would this be a problem for me to join the group?

  26. Drive Brief This drive is the night version of an evergreen classic at Carnity. This time we will make our move at 7:00pm from E102 Sharjah-Khalba Road, on the north end side of Fossil Rock. Departing on time, we should be able to quickly climb the west hill side of the rock, reaching a position high enough to enjoy the sunset at the horizon. We will then continue in the twilight, wandering around the multiple big bowls that populate the area of Mahafiz closer to Pink Rock. As soon as the sky will have become dark blue, we will approach Fossil Rock, climb to the top and descend on the east side, literally diving in the dark. We will then head south, moving across a fascinating area populated by dunes whose evocative names, such as Camel Rock and The Sphinx, will have a whole new sound when seen at feeble light of the waxing crescent moon. We will then slowly head further south, wandering around Faya massive dunes, in search for the ideal place, in an elevated and quiet position, to have a short break, turn-off our lights, and contemplate for a minute the starred sky above us. Our night wandering will slowly take us to the sourthern edge of the area and eventually out to the S153 Mahafiz - Al Faya Road. 27. Drive Idea I don't always want to get up at the crack of dawn - or earlier, but I still want to do a desert drive, so a twighlight drive is my answer. It starts in broad daylight (that means quite ot these days, but as the night closes around the temperature drops and we get the chance to drive at night without having to stay up until so late that it's impossible to function the day after. So the plan is to start with Lisaili which has some of the most wonderful wide swooping dunes in the region (once you clear the technical dunes), stop for a lovely sunset and then continue through the landscape which leads to the Qudra dunes and all that offers in terms of slide sloping and a route to let us arrive tired, but happy at Last Exit in time for last orders at Spicy Village. 31. @Sunil Mathew there is no hard and fast rule about bringing family members along, we advise, when asked, for newbies and fewbies to come alone since you are still learning and any lapse in concentration could end badly. It is more of a safety protocol. Another thing we have noticed is that passengers often tend to feel sick or have motion sickness when looping through dunes. If that happens, it tends to slowdown or hold up the entire convoy. That being said, the final decision is still yours to make. @jeetu sharmaplease confirm if you are still upto to joining as a spot has become available.

  32. Hi Yogi In regards of the compressor, it depends what your budget is .... You can buy the Camel in dragon mart for about 250 dhs or the Mean Mother for 750 dhs in Ravonauto in Al Quoz. Adventure HQ and ACE have some other models too but I have no experience with these ones. You have also more expensive ones like the ARB compressor for 1200 dhs and more. I hope this helps a bit. See you tomorrow

  33. Noted . For the first drive it is okay, but from the 2nd drive you will need to bring your gears as mentioned - mandatory. It will be good if you can bring along a air compressor atleast , so that you can inflate your tires after the drive , as the ADNOC gas station is far away from the planned drive site

  39. Thanks @Anish S for todays drive, it was a stress buster for me and enjoyed it very much. Mix of slopes, technical dunes which was enjoyed by every one. You have an amazing copilot on action over radio today, thanks @Veedooshee. @Alain Canivet-Abikhalil good drive, you enjoy second lead position much!!!, enjoying the drive is the objective, continue enjoying!!! You have improved a lot on side slope couldnโ€™t see any fish tailing, it was a pleasure watching you. If you manage to maintain the right momentum on climbing small dunes you will be perfect. But you self recover very well keep it up. @Marwan Haddadyou did drive well, nothing to worry about exiting side slope early, you will perfect it with more practice, most important is to know when to exit which you did well today. @Christopher Assal it was pleasure watching you from behind, couple of areas you slowed while approaching the dune but you managed to push at right time and crossed without getting refusal. Good drive!!! @Zixuan Huang - Charlie you really drove well today maintaining safe distance. @Sunil Mathew I could see you driving beautifully, and your confidence level has made you enjoy the drive, well done. @Darren Brooke hope you enjoyed the drive and managed on churned up sand and technical areas well. Hope you fix your car asap and rock as usual. @TT_Dubai didnโ€™t hear you on radio, as you mentioned you enjoyed technical area very much for first time, that too from behind. Good job, continue enjoying. @darren thompson hope you enjoyed the drive with your monster Raptor specifically in the technical areas and churned up sand driving at the back of the convoy. You were quite through out the drive which shows you managed and enjoyed it throughly. @RooRzOn thanks for sweeping the convoy and you did great job. Hope you also enjoyed the drive. Over all we covered good distance in short time and exited on time with most of the time driving. It was a wonderful drive, thanks to every one in the convoy. See you all soon!!!

  42. Hey @Gaurav, now that I have auxiliary lights on my car, I often wonder how I ever managed to drive without them ๐Ÿ˜€ After you install off-road lights, you start asking the same type of questions like โ€œwhat did we do before cell phones, or the Internet?โ€ ๐Ÿ˜‚ My last drive with Sri ran into the night, and it felt like I was driving blind, even though my car had fog lights and Vision X off-road spot lights. I had to drive at night in the desert to finally understand what pitch black means ๐Ÿคฃ All I remember is driving close to the car in front of me to take advantage if his lights ๐Ÿ˜€ As to buying option, I believe itโ€™s worth investing in good lights if you decide to install some. Many good brands out there; Denali, Rigid, Baja, etc. I went with the Baja Design https://www.bajadesigns.com/Products/LP6-Pro-LED.asp because they have a cool running daylight, and have a high and low beam setting. This is not to mention the 5 year warranty and the interchangeable white/amber lenses. The main thing to have in off-road lights, is two lighting patterns; i.e. lights that have spread beams to illuminate your surroundings, and spot beams to illuminate the path in front of you. Luckily, most good brands make a light that has both beam patterns... The cost of good quality lights is still high, but it pays off in the end because you donโ€™t have to keep on replacing the cheap ones ๐Ÿ˜€

A Member who has RSVP the drive is RESPONSIBLE and LIABLE for their passenger's compliance. PS3. The above precautions apply to everyone irrespective of their vaccination status or schedule. PS4. You can confidentially submit the photo of any offender by sending an email to [email protected]. How to comply Read the drive post before arriving at the meeting point, so that you know your convoy numbering and radio channel. Arrive at the meeting point and switch on your radio to the pre-set frequency of the drive. Stop your vehicle at least 10-20 meters away from each other. Deflate your tires, while wearing a mask, and then go back inside your car. All briefings will be done on the radio now, so pay full attention to a briefing for your own safety. After the briefing, fall in your convoy position just before the drive starts. While driving if you get stuck, announce on the radio and be inside your car at all times. Trip lead and/or support will guide you on the radio for self-recovery or tow-rope recovery. While there is a stuck or a refusal, everyone else supposed to be inside their car at all times. You can only take a bio-break during the drive, by requesting trip lead permission. Once the drive is over exit out to inflate by maintaining 10-20 meters distance from each other. While inflating, only the driver supposed to be out and with the face mask at all times. After the drive, you can talk on the radio for any feedback, suggestions or help you need.
