@Barry thanks for the detailed answers. Any recommended or tested place for the "repair" option?

Hello,
I've had my power steering fail during my last drive in the desert yesterday! (I should have stuck to flying - less damage to the car 😂).
I went to see two garages today and I got the same diagnostic - the power steering pump is dead.I was given two options to fix the issue :
- Replace the whole pump assembly: between 2500-3000aed including labor! (seems very very expensive !!)
- Repair the pump itself: between 800 to 1500aed...
Any thoughts? Where can I check the price of parts online?
Would repairing the pump be a good option? Or is it a "high risk" job and it would fail again?
Any recommended garage to go to and do this for a fair price? In the meantime, I'm gonna grow some muscles 😅

Thanks again @Rahimdad and @Srikumar. It was great fun and I learned a lot, especially that I have still had to learn much
more 🤣. It's always a big pleasure to drive with you guys, it's a wonderful break from the city and the stress of the week!@AKR showed us his real side by going completely badass with no exhaust - hope you managed to get it fixed.
@yogic72 these moments are really great with your son, I'm sure he will remember them fondly as a young adult and even later.- 4

@Rahimdad @Gaurav @Srikumar @Emmanuel Always a pleasure to drive with all of you! It's a wonderful thing to see the member grow and see new people joining and learning like @AKR.
Special thanks to all the guys who helped me with the tire situation at the start and sorry for delaying the convoy!
@Fuad & all, I hope that this "jump" would be the last, as I wish to keep my car good enough to follow you each friday
Special thanks for @Rahimdad for the great write-ups after each drive, it's great to relive the morning on the forum

ok guys, update, be careful when pulling out the window and trying it. You can actually pull the motor and break it. I found out the hard way. Good thing is that I have no rattles whatsoever now !!

@Gaurav thanks for organizing, the drive. Do you think that we’ll exist or have an opportunity to exit the the sand box before the bbq ? or is it gonna be non stop ? I’m asking to know how to organize I might not be able to join this time because of the timing 😢

@RohanH if your fluids are ok. Check the buttom of the steering column, there is a caoutchouc piece that rubs against the column and it is the reason behind the noise. You can put some WD40 over there. In my case it did the job perfectly.

A bit late to report on my first ride with you guys, but here it goes :
-Pre-ride :
- The website is easy to understand and registering for a ride is very straightforward
- All the info on required gear and preparation is already on the website, very well organized and extremely easy to find.
- The ranking system is clear and shows that the club has a serious structure and can be trusted - it is an extreme sport is some ways!
-During the ride
- Great brief by @Rahimdad , @Srikumar & @Emmanuel -> Felt at ease from the start, everything was covered in details from driving techniques, recovery methods, to safety measures
- After 20 minutes of riding on my first dunes, I got to experience my first self-recovery with the expert help of @Srikumar guiding me on how to master the 'bleep bleep' technique! I got out in 30 seconds !
- At this point, I was getting fed up with my traction control and @hossein showed me the lights, literally! He showed me what fuse to remove to completely disable the traction control & abs 😄. After that, I felt the power, all the lights came on my dashboard (the xmass lights) & I was able to make my first jump 🤣🤣
- The break was great and I got to meet & share a meal with most of the regulars that I see on a weekly basis now.
- Following the break, the convoy was eager to drive more so we drove for an additional 1h30 and I believe that it was at that point that was hooked 😂
- We arrived at our deflation point and @Srikumar was kind enough to lend me his compressor so I can get going!
- I got home safely and at no point whatsoever during the drive, I felt unsafe or at risk like with some other clubs that I tried later on.
- @Rahimdad's lead was excellent for newbies with a good learning curve from start to finish.
-After the ride
- It was great to find all the pictures on the gallery, you keep a trace of each ride and I now try to take as much as I can and share!
- Discussing the drive and getting tips was even more natural to do on the forum since I knew most of the guys responding, and it's a way to keep in contact between two drives!
Sorry it's a long one !
