How do you know there’s a problem with the crankshaft?

Crankshafts generally do not cause cars not to start. Going by the price of the part you mention, I'd say that they replaced the crankshaft sensor, which is the thingamajig that creates the ignition spark. If so, the problem was clearly not related to the crankshaft sensor, and you should find a proper mechanic next time.

seems it also could be the wiring to the ecu if you have changed to a known working sensor...

if you can show what was the initial computer diagnosis that would also help to the right direction...
