Those were the days when they have actually won Dakar Rally for 2 years. I know two people myself who took their modern Range Rovers and came back so its all good in my book. They are pretty much as capable if not more in stock form. Do I need to post videos of the L405 ridge riding in Liwa and ripping MOAB again! But unless Im made of money I myself would take a Land Cruiser. Also because I love Range Rovers too much and can't bear to seem them get finger up and dirty! No scratch that if I was made of money I would certainly try it in a Range Rover right off the showroom floor. Just to see how far I can go. If anything happened I would just call my chopper tp come rescue me ans leave the car with the keys in it for the locals as a gift Edited December 10, 2018 by desertdude 1
desertdude
P.S : Dakar Rally shouldn't be any real category for anything. A Porsche 949 won it in 86 I think, so are we to assume Porsche 949s are very capable offtoaders! If you want off road events. Then nothing like the Camel Trophy and everyone knows Almost stock Discoveries kicked ass in those. Fun fact, first year of the Camel Trophy was run with Jeeps and none made it. They literally fell into pieces. Crappy fact. Last year of the trophy was done by Hondas! 1
Desert Dweller
Sorry for causing all this 😂 But I have to admit that I'm really enjoying reading it. I'll get a notebook and start making notes hihi
Gaurav
@desertdude I can never beat you in a good sense of humor Dakar Rally was an "OFFROAD EVENT" Unlike Camel Trophy - brand medallion for Camel cigarettes and Land Rover (Main sponsor) who used "heavily modified Land Rover Special Vehicles" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Camel_Trophy https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dakar_Rally 1 1 Let's root for each other & watch each other grow. Gaurav
I would love to have Dakar version Porsche 959 with 2.8L twin turbo spitting 444 hp and 500 Nm Sorry forgot to mention 1450 kgs means 300+ hp / ton power to weight ratio, it was quite daring and clever of Porsche to use 959 1 1 Let's root for each other & watch each other grow. Rahimdad
I remember Qatar Rally champion Saeed Al Hijri from back in the 80s using a Porshe 911 Turbo Cabriolet to give Mohammed Bin Sulaiyem head in his Toyota Celica.

Not a replica, not a similar one.The actual car in this video. And to top it all off. I had the keys to it for two days as I was the one looking after it. Didn't dare drive it on my own. It was flown over from a private collection of some rich dude in Europe. I did do the typical man child thing of when everyone went away. Got into it and did the vroom vroom thing. Yeah and Saleem is right, this was from the modifies category. Doors welded shut with a big tubular roll cage inside, everything stripped out. Now I probably couldn't even get into the thing. Hot and noisy as f@#k as the engine is right there behind you. Also got to hang out with Jacky Ickxs. The guy who drove it to the finish line. And you wish you could afford it. Regular examples of these are now worth way over a million dollars https://youtube.com/watch?v=GxBzTVoFHXQ
desertdude
P.S : You are way too over obsessed with power to weight ratio. Seems to be your later buzzword. That helps in street racing. All that power to weight ratio is pointless when you have shit ground clearance and approach and departure angles of a whale
