commuters
i am a owner of a 2007 Mitsubishi Eclipse mileage: 50,000 km my eclipse pings when I accelerate, and especially when I climb. It also tends to do this when my rpm's drop after my automatic transmission switches to a higher gear such as third or fourth. I've already checked the ignition timing, and it's correct, I've replaced my plugs and wires. My cylinder head was just replaced in 2009. What are some of the causes of this problem. as i have searched the web if somebody had a similar issue but could not find anything. thanks
davidg
As u already changed head, so i will doubt that first. get ur cylinders compression test and see if that head was fitted after facing or not. If all cylinder values are same within range above 100 - 120. good. Then doubt Air flow meter or O2 sensor. if comp test value is weak in one or more cylinder, its a head issue and you got to re open and face the head properly to sit on engine and change the head gasket once again. jq8
Caused of engine ping is advance timing/poor octain rating of fuel. get it check by authorize Mitsubishi Technician to get the proper diagnosis on MPI system. It might also having defective sensors (MAP or knock sensor)
