The wheels were originally with the car. the problem with spare at the tome was the wheel nut was stuck and we had a job to get it out of the frame from rear door.

You just can’t drive your car if you’ve failed your inspection and run out of days in your registration card. Hi, My 2016 fj cruiser xtreme has vibrations between 80-110km/hour- i can feel it in the steering and passenger also feels the vibration. As it still has warranty, i took it to toyota in al ain. they changed bushes, tracking rod, something in the propeller shaft connection -all covered in warranty-thank god! but unfortunately the vibrations persist. They say that it is probably the tyres- bf goodridge-all terrain- 2015 tyres. they need changing. i was looking in the forum and both srikumar and gaurav suggested tyre shops in sharjah- with location map. is there any particular tyre shop which is recommended or do i just try a few to see who gives the best prices. i understand there is vehicle balancing as well- is there a tyre shop which will do this as well or do i take it to another place after fixing the new tyres to balance the whole vehicle? secondly- i noticed a paint chip about 2x2cm in the passenger door - you can see the under coat- is there any recommended body shop which will repair this either in al ain or sharjah or dubai. i will be in dubai this afternoon till sunday morning. many thanks for any pointers. much appreciated regards srini

RTA Vehicle Testing is mandatory all across the Emirates in UAE. RTA vehicle renewal is a part of vehicle ownership in the UAE as well as many other developed countries, to check for faults that may endanger lives. There are several RTA testing centers in UAE, conveniently placed and open for long working hour for RTA test. Tasjeel is run by ENOC in Dubai, Sharjah and northern emirates with many Tasjeel vehicle testing branches. Shamil vehicle testing is run by EMARAT in Dubai and Sharjah with few testing centers. Wasel vehicle testing is run by BELHASA group in Dubai in Jadaf area. Adnoc vehicle inspection center is run by ADNOC in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and western region. Below is a list of tests performed during RTA Vehicle testing, along with tips to repair or prevent the issues: Vehicle identification: They will match your chassis number and registration. Emissions: They have three categories - carburetor petrol engine, fuel injected petrol engine, and diesel engine. Regular oil changes and visits to the mechanic will keep emissions under control. Braking system: Will be inspected for leaks, warped rotors, worn drums, squeaks, and performance. The handbrake will be checked too. Steering system: Checked for play. The couplings and joints must be in good condition. Visibility: This test checks the tint on your windows, your rear view mirror, and condition of the windshield glass, the wipers, and the washers. Remember to fill up on washer fluid. If you have rock chips in your windshield, you can repair it by filling it with resin. The kit is not cheap, but neither is a windshield. Lighting equipment: Examination of your high and low beams for position and brightness. Your headlight lenses must be clear as well. A yellowed headlight can be restored with some 3000-grit sandpaper and some polish. Running gear: Your vehicle axles, wheels, and tires will be checked. Most cars that fail this test either have worn CV joints or loose steering arms. Suspension problems can be detected easily by the sound your car makes when going over bumps. Put some lithium grease on your bushings to keep them flexible and last longer. Chassis and frame attachments: Any strut bars or braces, mounts, and the frame are inspected to ensure there is no structural rust or unrepaired accident damage. You can repair a rusted frame by cutting out the rusted parts and welding in uncorroded metal. RTA recommends that all aftermarket under body protection gear must be removed prior to the inspection. Key equipment check: Is your driver’s seat mounted properly? Your battery must be secured in position. All audible warnings that came with the car must be functioning as per GCC specifications. They will also check to see if you have your warning triangle in the trunk. Feel free to place the triangle in a more conspicuous place to help out the inspectors. Your seat belts would be checked as well.

Hey buddy, i remember during the last drive you did with us, you had some issues with a flat or popped out tyre and we wanted to put on the spare tyre, but there was an issue with the wheel bolts because they were too short or something? As your rims are not the stock ones, you might want to get them looked at too. Or did these come originally with the car ?

Yes it could be tires as BFG are big beefy tires and when old they become hard and start loosing chunks from random places. I had loosing chunk problem with BFG and Cooper ATR in the past. Before that, I would go to any tire shop and ask them to open all 4 tires to see if there is sand inside, clean them and balance again by seeing proper zero and zero on both sides. Sand in tire will behave in similar manner to vibrate at set speed - usually 80-100 - very common speed bracket for unbalanced tires or with sand presence. If they still vibrate after this 50-100 dhs exercise then you definitely need new tires.

Toyota has finally decided to stop production of it's flagship legend Land Cruiser J200 (LC200) by 2022. This shape rolled out in 2008, so after 16 years of service this shape has been schedule to retire. I personally think it was high time for Toyota to pull this trigger as most of the other car manufacturers are changing shapes every 8-10 years. Right @desertdude, as you were waiting. I'm more excited now to see the market flooding with next LC design until Toyota official announcement. If you read that article full, you will understand that writer is "Proposing" not yet confirm to "END" "J200" shape of LC and Toyota is not actually killing or discontinuing the Land Cruiser as a whole. It's a flagship legend of Toyota. So even if writer is true, then after 2022 Toyota will launch J300 series Land Cruiser (I assume).

Totally agree! . I have noticed exceptionally when DRL's are on and has helped me to navigate efficiently. But ofcors these are invisible for people who change lanes without considering other people and forgetting the purpose of using indicator lights.

DRL or daytime running lights do not only refer to the new LED type lights coming on new cars, it means front headlights on at all times. If you spot an old camry or corolla driving with its headlights on in the middle of the day. Most probably its a US or Canadian import. DRL are more bright, crisp and visible than parking lights in two way narrow city roads. At least in UK, European and many Asian cities they have narrow two-way roads within busy cities, not sure about US though. So in bad weather or poor visibility these DRL are blessing.

Always recommend to use parking lights that can offer better visibility during day time with low visibility/ weather.

Totally agree and I have seen this live on BMW hybrid to charge a peony battery for 12 miles range they have to take atleast 100 miles on petrol.

Excellent list of points to be checked during RTA Vehicle Testing in UAE. It's good to have this list handy that we can refer to before RTA renewal. Few things I like to add here: Tires: It should have decent amount of tread left for another year of use. RTA fails any tire more than 5 years of age. 3 years and above will only get passed if good enough tread is left. Offroad lights: You are fine to install any number of offroad lights, but they all should have cover on it like plastic cap or rexine wrap so that you cannot use while driving on road because use of offroad lights is illegal on the road. Stickers: Remove all big size stickers as sometime they fail the vehicle. 1-2 small stickers on body are acceptable as far as they are not on windows or blocking the rear view. Metal bumpers: Strict NO for RTA passing as they will increase the damage multi fold to vehicle and human body, if involved in any accidents. Borderline remedy for such offroad metal bumper is to install a big rubber bumps in front to absorb the impact. Loud exhaust: Excessively louder exhaust will fail RTA passing. If you opt for performance exhaust go with low noise exhaust and it should not exceed maximum of 95 DB on fully warmed up engine. I had Magnaflow on Mustang with 90 DB (almost) that passed every RTA testing without any wasta. Car modifications: If you have done some crazy extreme car modifications then refer to ESMA regulations.

True, my father in law was always laughing with my 1960 VW bug that I was restoring. For him it was a piece of crap which they used to race to pieces on the farmlands and let die to rust. If only I kept it longer but time and space was a big issue for me then.

Keep one of everything but keep it in good condition. Look what happened to Mk1 and Mk2 Escorts. They were crap when they were new but a rusted out Mk1 Escort will cost you 10,000 euro now when you could have bought one for 500 in the 90s. Even the shittiest of shitty stuff like Morris Marinas are going up in value. I know a guy at home who paid £9,000 for a Mk3 Cavalier SRi a few weeks ago, wasn’t even a red top, it was the 8v. Last one I had I sold it for £300. It’s a numbers game. The cars start to die off and get scrapped, nobody cares so the numbers drop. Eventually people grow up and have some savings and want to recapture their childhood so they go looking for old cars. The old cars are all gone so survivors can command a higher price. Basic supply and demand. It’s a long game to play but you can become very rich if you’re willing to play it for a long time.

Than 2th gear and low might take that Pajero to the top. @Frederic But dont try like 10 times. It will create stress on the car. Personally i diidnt face any issue because of using low gear ONLY for Faya climbing. Also last year after me other members was trying the low gear.
