Hello, guys! Recently we did two trips on a car: to Salalah in August and to Jordan in October. I'm thinking of writing a review which could be useful for some people. Are you interested? Should I proceed? If yes, what would you like to see in a review, anything specific? If you are not interested, it's totally fine, no worries 😃

You shouldn't be asking such question, as everyone here is knowledge seeking folks than the blind folded ones. Go for it 100% Things you should include is in the same sequence as you planned so people reading it know what all to expect in chronological order like: Distance, drive time, weather, visa, accommodation, places to visit, heritage, famous food, tradition, people, language, local food etc.

Apparently now the thing in Dubai is make sure the ad says "British owned". If it says "lady" in the title, bonus points. If the owner was a "British lady dentist", you hit the jackpot.

Go for it! I would love to hear what it's like driving all the way to Jordan.

That's the thing if you have decent skills what car really doesnt make too much of a difference. Only cars which I saw were totally shit off road were those full-size crossover type vehicle. Smaller like Rav 4 are also cool but lack of low range is their Achilles's heel I would totally rock a V8 Pathfinder. People made fun of me and said my old heavy discovery 1 wouldn't make it 500 mtrs but I went everywhere with it, even dropped some jaws along the way. Including some self proclaimed off road master experts like Wrangler is Wrangler sir ji. If you know who I mean lol

I recently saw a very nicely modified olpost 05 Pathfinder in Muhaisana. Got a 4 inch lift bash plates. And looked liked it had gone on a few serious drives. Was just thinking if it had that 310hp V8 in it. It would be a nice ride Anyone who has driven a Titan or Armada even on road know they are pretty quick. Under 7 second 0-100 for such big beasts imagine that in a smaller and lighter package.

You really need come out of those Armada testing days from decade ago bro. If you have driven offroad anytime soon then you know the model you are referring is named as plastic pig in the offroad community. We have got few times such pathfinder in the club and have never see them again after 1 or 2 drives. And V8 pathfinder must be as rare as hens teeth here tbh. If you find a V8 then most of its flaws can be overlooked or covered by little expense.

And how many issues with your new Range Rover EAS ? And how many cars with air suspension have you owned and driven? A new air spring is not that expensive anymore. And having variable height is a big plus in an off road car. Plus for old farts who are afraid of advancement there is also the option for regular could springs and even steel wheels from the factory

Any old vehicle comes with some amount of love and work to make it tic longer. Just make sure engine and gear are good. 2002 - 2005 came with the 3.5 litre version. First thing get all the oils and liquids drained, put in New ones. Check all the rubber bushings, hoses, pipes, etc and change whatever is necessary. It might cost you just under 2k but well worth to keep it running.

Here is the list of very simple tips that every car owner should know to take care of his/her car in the UAE: Don't start and go: As soon as you start the car, wait for rpm to drop to idle rpm (600-800 rpm) from 15-30 seconds in a newer car and 30-60 seconds in an older car before driving it off. This will help the car to circulate all fluids to necessary place in engine, gearbox, steering and brake boosters. Driving it immediately will starve some critical component for few seconds and may cause damage in the long run. Don't block the driver: While parking cars in the tight spot, leave more space on the driver side than on the passenger side. In parallel parking, move vehicle little front or back to avoid hitting side view mirror while opening. This will save a lot of scratches and bumps on both the cars. Don't drive on underinflated tires: Learn to check your tires with visual look every day and inflate them to owners manual tire pressure asap. When tire pressure is down, then the bottom tread of the tire is very less visible and worth a stop and checking. Most tires when underinflated screech while turning on cemented flooring like in building parking, fuel station etc.. So if you are not used to hearing screeching while turning then that can be the very first signal of low tire pressure. If in doubt, simply inflate to 30-32 psi in general for most of the cars in UAE. Don't hit the curb: While parking once your car hit the curb, move little away from the curb because leaving the car with tire hitting the curb will damage tire over time and may result in unusual bulge, cuts or leak resulting in wobbling ride. Don't ignore the leaks: Learn to check for leaks visually. Every day when you walk towards your car just have a look under the car engine and sides to have any wet marking or oil drops or pool of oil. Minor few drops or stains are acceptable to some extent if they are occasional, but regular drops or pool of oil or any other fluid require an immediate check. Clearwater dripping when the car is on - AC condensation - nothing to worry Clearwater droplet coming out from exhaust - it's a good sign of healthy engine Front side underneath - golden or brown oil = Engine Oil leaking - Immediate check needed Front side underneath - green or red water-based fluid = Engine Coolant leaking - Immediate check needed Under front driver or passenger side - red or brown oil = Gear Oil leaking - Immediate check needed Don't drive with weak brakes: When you hear screeching noise while braking then it is an indication that gets your brake pads and/or brake disc replaced. It's a first telltale sign of worn out braking system and you should not be ignoring it for a long time. Don't ignore the warning lights: You should never ignore any fault code light appearing on the dashboard be it for check engine light, SRS, ABS or battery icon. Warning lights in red color are critical ones and yellow are least critical but still, they all are warning light and trying to tell you to check or fix something in the car.

Don’t hit the kerb. I saw something on another site a couple of days ago, Reddit or 9GAG or something like that, I don’t remember. Some guy screwed rubber onto the kerb outside his house so he wouldn’t damage his wheels when parking. I felt like making an account just to tell him if you can’t park without hitting the kerb, you probably shouldn’t be driving. I see this every day. Some people have no spatial awareness and no idea of the size of their car. They will driver until they hit the kerb and use that as a feel for when to steer. It’s not just tyre damage. It knocks your wheels out of balance so the steering wheel vibrates when you drive. It also upsets your steering alignment so your car doesn’t drive straight when you let go of the wheel.

I just bought my first bike (not motorbike yet) last night, with an aim to get back my health as the nice season starts soon. Plan to do regular cycling every day and wondering if we have any bikers in-house here who can share their experiences. As a first-timer, here I'll be riding the bike after 20-25 years from my school days so any tips and advice are highly appreciated.

😂😂 when I see lady owned it means they have hit every kerb in all 7 Emirates and the tyres will be full of bubbles and the alignment will be out of whack i know “British owned” has become a meme in UAE but when I’m buying random stuff on dubizzle I like buying from British sellers. The price is the price, the item is described as is. There is no “last price” bs. The price advertised is a fair price, pre haggled. You get what you see.

Not all lady's owned car are ladies owned and maintained as well some will be done by cheap hairy balls as well..so don't be worried if things start to fall apart after you transfer ownership...have seen quite some cases like that...it's always better to stay alert and check the car nicely before investing on it...

Snakes are cool. Tasty too deep fried in batter with soy sauce. I used to have a pet Boa constrictor. She grew to almost 2 meters. Once you learn to handle them they aren't so scary. Its about respect. Most of the time if you don't annoy them they won't annoy you. If you want to pick one up, just be careful of the bitey end. If you pick up a snake properly it won't be able to bite you. But, some snakes can be just as cuddly as a kitten too. Mine used to curl around my leg and sit and watch TV with me. Snakes don't want to bite people. Purely for the reason that they swallow their prey whole, and a person is too big to swallow. If a snake bites you, its not the snakes fault, its yours. The snake bit you because it was scared. Snakes get a bad rep sometimes but its not their fault, its ours. We are the ones encroaching on their environment. They were there before we started decided to build villas over their habitat.

That's not only true for German or American cars anymore. That holds true for every new car out of the showroom. If you want reliable go for a Japanese, preferably Toyota. Sure you dish out a little extra upfront, but they are the best in reliability.

The old P38 is a bad comparison. Tech was new then and more than hardware the software was the issue. And that is what really gave Range Rover s a bad reputation of unreliability. Now even sedans are riding on air and air susp tech has come a long way since then. I have friends who haven't changed their bags since 2002. Still riding on the original bags the car came with from factory.

Really don't need a bash plates if you drive sensibly in the dunes For rocks and mountains its worth it. Never had one on any car I've had infact the plastic cover that came with the Land Cruiser we would take out. Kept the sand from getting stuck in there and if you had an oil leak it would just turn into oily sand crud. You'd be surprised at how many kilos of sand some people are carrying around in their bash plates and covers. Because everything we had to take one off to do an oil change a small dune would fall out from under the car. Which also another thing in sone cars it becomes a PITA to do simple things like an oil change because of the bash plates in the way

Yes I recently broke a spring on my Pajero after 20 years out of which 9 years was ONLY offroad. (300 dhs). In old Range I changed Air Suspension twice in two year. (4K/Year) (80K for 20 year). Now, you get me point when I mean reliability, long-life and cost effective. It's a profit center for car manufacturer. Period.

I've seen coil springs break too. So nothing is fool proof. And nowadays it's not that expensive. You can have a side rebagged for 500dhs with 3 months warranty. Or a totally new strut for around a 1000.

None, so as in Porsche Cayenne (None). I agree for offroad adjustable height is good, but its reliability and cost should be inline with the benefits too.

Trust me in this la-la-land seeing is not believing. I have seen tons of highly modified 4x4's by far that stay very far from desert let alone dunes itself. And even if I see one off strange 4x4 then I wouldn't buy it unless I see his gazillion brother and sister surviving the terrain and heat here. Secondly, if you have such pathfinder and wish to retire as a desert toy, then its altogether different theory that you can work around with what you have seen with 4 inch lift and bash plate. You put 4 inch lift and bash plate on corrolla, it can do wonders. Buying a new one as a dedicated desert toy is a terrible mistake, when you have so many capable options in the market.

Well if you really want something with some oomph look for the 2008 Pathfinder. Some of them had the 310hp V8 in them you can find in the Armada and Titan

I see this everyday, people just start the engine and put in gear to drive immediately. Then there is a misconception from petrolheads I was reading on other whatsapp group, that in modern cars you don't have to wait. Now this information is too grey. What petrolheads is saying is right too but it doesn't mean that you start the car and move immediately. Let RPM drop to idle range in next 5-10 seconds and then you are good to go unlike in old cars where you should wait for 2-3 minutes. Killing this 10 second gap is enough to starve engine moving part without lubrication.

Yes I'm open to all brands, just wanted to know which one will be most reliable in 5 year span. People scaring me for German and American brands to fail parts as soon they run out of warranty, is it true?

You mean car dealers show....? It's good for someone looking for buying new car and wish to see all car dealers inventory in one place than visiting there SZR showrooms one after the other. Been to this few years back and I was totally disappointed.

3.5 GCC, never been offroad, lady driven, always parked under shade, leaving country, urgent sale, negotiable. @Rahimdad and @G.huz can advise further.

Get the big 3.5.

I suggest taking some test drives first before a final decision. Of course that would be in the latest models but you should be able to get an idea of the comfort level and engine performance.

This best time and worst time theory works to an extent only. I have always bought and sold cars against the tide and still at my own price. Key is be patient.

Traditionally. Just before and begining of Summer vacations. As many people sell off their cars they want to get rid of before they go and usually get a new ride before the start of the new school year. And worst time to buy a 4x4 is at the start of the winter season here i.e now. But due to the slowdown for the last couple of years it's been a buyers market and more and more people leaving or sending families home. More cars for sale than buyers these day. But the above mentioned factors still do come in play

What i see taxi drivers doing often: slowly pushing the pedal for a few second till they reach desired speed, then letting it go, and so on, and so on. So it's like a constant pulsation of gas/no gas. Annoys the hell out of me and i really don't understand why they do it. Not sure if its harmful to the car, but i just don't see the point of doing this.

Very good point added @Barry thanks for your additional valuable inputs. I see almost in every parking, tires are suffocated to the curb or kerb and then people complain that these tires were useless as they bulge out in less than a year when they don't know how to park. Even if you use the judgment of curb while parking (it's ok), move away few cms once you reach the end, then switching off car instantly. The second most killing thing I spot is more than 75% driver jump in the car and move away within 1-2 seconds while rolling they pull the seatbelt and wear their glasses. I am like do these basic steps first and let that poor car run for 30 seconds before you put the gear in drive.

Thanks for the advice, Ill def go slow and keep it for fun than getting into any grueling competition, I never do that in health anyways. I have a nice 3km long walking and cycling strip next to my house, so will give it a go with that first and then slowly move forward. Sertac, once I decide to head qudra, will let you know. I'm sure it will be good fun to ride together with a few bikes.

If you want to go to Al Qudra area i can rent one and join you. I love cycling but it has been a long time i didint ride.

Hi Gaurav, Good to hear that you're getting back on the bike, it is definitely relaxing. I am not an avid biker, more like a recreational one. I live next to the Al Qudra Cycling track so that helps too. In general i have to say that the infrastructure in Dubai is still quite weak when it comes to cyclists, but there is slight improvement. If you want you can also rent a bike near to the Al Qudra lakes (Giant store). My best advice would be to start slowly and enjoy every ride. Your stamina will quickly improve but it is important to not overdo it and to keep an eye on your heart rates. If you monitor those properly your physical strength and stamina will improve without pain or injuries. Good luck !
