Dear Desertnauts. Ready to explore an area rarely seen before!? Do not forget to wear your adventurer's hat, as we still know very little about what we'll find in this "Sand to Mountain" drive. There are numerous trails that we'll try to follow, with occasional detours in the open terrain. Occasionally, I may have to stop the convoy and exit the car to evaluate the best route. We may either be satisfied with what we find, or disappointed, and never think of driving here again. In any case, a certain degree of uncertainty awaits us. We are planning to exit around 10:30/11:00. The meeting and deflation point is just off a small tarmac road, to the right of the main highway, leading from E611 toward Al Ghail. As there have been road works in the area, make sure you follow the signs to the new Ritz Carlton Al Wadi Desert Resort (the meeting point is on the road leading to it) Upon arrival please tune in to Carnity Channel 2 (446.031). Make sure you arrive with as full a tank as possible, and with all the necessary gear for this driving level. Besides the compressor, this means having at least a good shovel, and possibly a kinetic recovery rope (not yet mandatory as Fewbies, but recommended) Looking forward to seeing you Saturday morning, I wish you a nice start of the weekend.

Place to buy is your choice from online or from Sharjah tire market (better rate) rather than fuel station (super overpriced). More importantly you should choose the tires as per your need that is 1) Road vs 2) Sand vs 3) Mountain and last vs 4) looks. Plenty of buyers go with looks alone and then live with the heaviest tires, which are not good for sand (long hill climbs) and result in deafening highway noise and substantial reduced fuel mileage. Chunky and beafy tire tread looks awesome but they are too heavy and not good for sand unless you do serious power mods to push those heavy tires/axle, but they are awesome for rocks (climbing or crawling) and mud if that's what you want. If you can share your usage, then we can advise you more better if you need help in deciding which tire you should buy.

@Ajiesh George Kannankara the dust on any drive does not settle without your brilliant talent in photography and your video. Amazing shots and love the angles and terrains. Seems like we were out of this world. Thank you for sharing these wonderful memories. To date at times when I have nothing to do, I go through the album of old drives and videos on @Carnity YouTube channel to revive every drive. These memories are priceless and help me to recall the wonderful times, and something for me to show my grand children in a few years time. Thank you.

For the road (max comfort and best fuel mileage) and good sand performance - Michellin LTX M/S or M/S2 or Primacy SUV. I used LTX for 3 years and Emmanuel is using Primacy. LTX M/S or M/S2 are an inch better than Primacy, if you can source them. Michellin aren't good for regular rock or wadi visits, occasional use is fine. Second option - Yokohama Geolander A/T or A/T2 - Reasonably good for on road use and best for off-road (sand) for stock cars. I am using these since last 6 years now. Geo's are fine with rock and wadi too. Stay away from BF Goodrich, Micky Thompson and Cooper STT - These are some heaviest tire that I mentioned above. They look good but unless you have twin turbo or supercharged engine, they will reduce the sand performance substantially.

New technology is making more people able to enjoy offroading without the hazards. I think that it goes with the times. I can imagine the people going into the wilderness on the back of the horse saying that this "noisy machines" are robbing all the excitement off going into the forest or the desert. We enjoy what we know and fear or despise what we don't know. I will probably stick with my ICM car, but will try the electrical stuff and who knows if I will like it better?....

Since we switch off all the driver’s aid in the desert, it does not matter if we have modern technology or not. I would choose classic. Probably less prone to have reliability issues as well.

Family always comes first and yes, I think I heard that line before (never from Jeepie !!!) and know exactly what it means. Hi @Yusuf Esaf I think that the chaces of Manjinder slipping out are limited, but there may be other drop outs before the end of the evening. Please keep looking through to around 10pm - for some reason there are people not paying attention until the last minute and then realising that they have other plans. Rest assured that if we have another drop out, you are the next in line (not that we wish bad on anyone in the club ...) Thank you for your understanding. It is appreciated.

And for those joining us again this weekend, we look forward to meeting you again. As we are less than 12 hours from the start of the drive, here is a brief of what we plan to do tomorrow: PREPARATION FOR THE DRIVE AND WHAT TO EXPECT 1) Please ensure that you reach the meeting point on time, i.e., 6:00 AM sharp. If you are late, you would be left behind. This is absolutely necessary for the safety of you and your vehicle before your first offroad adventure. 4) For those who have radios, you can program them to the Carnity Frequency using the guidelines provided in the below post. If you dont have a radio, we shall provide you with a spare radio during the drive. We will be using Carnity Channel 2 tomorrow. (446.03125 Mhz). The instructions to program the radio are provided in the below post 5) All traction controls, ABS and Air bags need to be switched off. If it requires pulling the fuse, please do the needful. Incase of any queries you can always ask the senior members before the drive or better still, post your queries on this drive post and we would assist. 6) Deflate to 15 psi. Incase if you have any difficulties you can approach the senior members before the drive who would assist you. 7) Feel free to ask questions at any time. We shall be starting the drive from the meeting point moving in an Eastward direction , and enter the desert through some nice easy tracks and dunes so that you can get familiar with your vehicle. As the convoy's confidence increases I shall be gradually increasing the level of the drive always keeping in mind everyone's comfort level. We will be driving for about 3 hours practicing driving in sand, proper steering control, crossing some dunes, and getting you and your vehicle accustomed to off-roading in general. By 09:30 am we will be heading out towards the ADNOC Gas station near the Sweihan roundabout, where you can inflate the tyres with your compressor or at the gas station. These are readily available in ACE, Speedex, AdventureHQ, or other shops. If you do have already other offroad gear such as a flag, radio, shovel, or others, please bring it along as well. Important note: The Al Qudra Last Exit petrol station where we will be exiting has a compressor to inflate your tyres, but lately it has been either defective or hardly working at all. So if you have a compressor plz bring it along as well. Thanks !

Hi Frederic The newbie drive was quite pleasant and nothing extreme for the discovery. Because of the front being a bit low the group leader recommended that i remove the small lip on the bottom of the front bumper just to avoid dragging of the sand. Unfortunately i didn't have the right tools with so drove with it still attached and i didn't have any issues at all. when u go down a hill just do it slow because of the front being a bit low. But other then that the car is more than cable to do it all after all its a land rover. Are you aware of the car ATPC system (all terrain progress control ) that helps when u get stuck. If not there is a lot of YouTube video on it. Hope this help if u need to chat this is my WhatsApp no.0027824078853
