The biggest THANKS goes to all our Carnity members who are giving me the pleasure to drive together. This has been a challenging year for many people, but i still look forward to every drive to see the smiling faces behind the masks and the joy of leaving the daily stress behind us for a few hours to enjoy this amazing passion called "offroading". From the initial moment i joined Carnity, my plan was to learn the basics of offroading and then use these skills in my camping trips with friends in UAE and Oman, as we were always getting stuck and thought we knew that we were doing the right thing by deflating to 20psi. I decided to stick around because thanks to Carnity i found a new family and to this day it has been one of the best decisions i ever made. I am extremely fortunate to have seen the club growing so fast thanks to the motivation and hard work of so many members. The aim has always been to create a community of likeminded souls that share the same passion to explore the UAE deserts in a safe way. I hope to be 'sticking' around for a long time and meet thousands more new members !

Totally agree with @Alexander Alcala for bigger tire and lifted suspension is must for improving wading height, but don't get confused that same will result wonder in the desert. In sand off-roading power-to-weight is king and bigger tires (usually heavier) tires will make you struggle a lot while hill climb and cross tracks where you need an instant power to spin tires against huge resistance. I have struggled a lot with my Patrol SWB with BF Goodrich tires and when changed to lighter tires it made a HUGE improvement.

Agree. If you would be living in Africa and spending 9 hours per day driving on a sandy track the snorkel would definitely be useful.

Dear Desertnauts @Malachy McGrogan, @Sandeep Padhi, @MUHAMMAD Kashif RAZZAQ, @Federico De Chirico, @Federico Galbieri, @Pickey Singh, @sri ganesh, @Aravind Padmaraju, @Sai Baskaran, @GauravSoni and @Kaile Barrameda Welcome to next Friday's Newbie drive. We have planned to drive in an area slightly more challenging than our usual stomping grounds. We will meet in a sabkha area (one of those wind-swept, barren and flat stretches of desert), gradually enter an area of long range open dunes, then get deeper into a higher plateau with taller, tighter, dune cordons. This whole area, and especially the first part of the drive, will cross an environment where numerous trees, lonely or in small groups, dot the landscape. This abundance of trees, thriving on a shallow aquifer, is the reason why the drive is nicknamed "The Arboretum". It will be a bit like driving in a park. We will scale the drive up, or down, depending on the convoy's behavior, possibly choosing to cross into slightly more difficult areas if all drivers feel comfortable with it. Another thing to consider is the actual wading capacity of your car. It is not only the air intake level. Most of the cars have electronics lower than the intake, and water doesn't mix well with electronics. I would say that there are a ton of things to consider before, and a suspension lift and bigger tires are way more important than the snorkel. I can tell from experience, because I have a snorkel installed in my jeep.

Not to the best of my knowledge, or rather it will do opposite as once some wise men said here: Try breathing through a straw while on treadmill. Anybody selling you this as a performance mod, tell him you will do two dyno test and if results aren't supporting then you need your money back including the dyno test spend. You will get your answer instantly. Some company claims for better filtration and long life of engine - such grey and slippery areas to market that you cant prove anyways. If its for looks, then def go ahead and buy a stick-on 100 usd fake snorkel than the real one. Let your Pajero breath how they were supposed to breath unless you intend to do water wading like Fredy mentioned.

For Xterra specially air box is taking the air from the tire side. If you are doing some extreme dune bashing and if your air filter is not good quality engine is sucking sand. That's why many Xterra owners putting Snorkel to their cars. For FJ also it is the same if i am not mistaken. My Jeep was taking the air form the front it wasn't having this issue. I a not aware for Pajero. Personally i dont have one i am having good quality AEM air filter and i am cleaning it after every desert drive.

Hi Rizwan. The snorkel will have some impact in air quality and temperature, since the air closer to the ground is dirtier and hotter. But for the occasional ride trough the dessert there are not real benefits. The cost is not justified. But if you are planning on driving long distances overloading it makes sense.

Hi @Rizwan Waheed you see the snorkel often on overlanding vehicles, where i think for most it's more of a optical thing (looks more rugged) than a functional item. Or when crossing water streams, which we are not really doing here. The snorkel would be useful if you are crossing deserts and driving for very long distances where you are not able to stop to clean out your air filter regularly. As the suction point is sitting higher it will suck in "cleaner" and cooler air. Performance wise i do not believe this will do much.

Hi all, As I get ready to joint the newbie session and pick up the recovery gear, radios etc. I came across this offer for 4mm skid plate full (front, mid and tank), 900aed fitted. I am struggling to confirm if 4mm is enough protections. The offer is great and I know I am not planning any extreme trips or driving to the limits so am keen for advise. thanks again all. Posting again to ensure I follow the rules (apologies admins)

Dear Richard, Thank you for the message. Yes was actually disappointed at that incident. Since I was looking to join you, after my friend recommendation about Carnity.... but no issues, I am sure for good. I am driving FJ Cruiser, 2010 model. I have attended a course of 1 day with Emirates Institute. After that I used to go off-road with groups, few time a year. My vehicles has tow hooks front and rear. I am glad to join you on a beginner trip, for you to evaluate and asses. I am always keeping the full set of tools including air compressor. Look forward to see you. Take care and Regards, Hisham
