Drive Report Convoy #2 I am hoping not to forget anyone in this report after what was a really interesting double header drive from Murquab this morning. Firstly thanks to @Ale Vallecchi for dealing with all the admin on the drive. This was not made easier by the fact that the drive was so popular it was opened it up to a second convoy that I had the privilege to lead. Our mysterious plan was to start at Murquab mosque, make our way to the outskirts of Solar Park and then double back to end at Lisali Fort - perfect symmetry as my Friday morning Fewbie drive had started from there. In planning the drive with Ale, we had decided that it would be fun if we met up with each other at the start, at two points in the drive and at the end. Amazingly, we managed to make that happen, ending within 5 minutes of each other after a 4.5 hour drive. Yes, we had a few recoveries (myself included) but this was a really smooth drive with everyone doing their bit to so that as far as possible we could keep moving and keep the ther convoy in sight. Things were made a little more challenging by the unplanned conversion of @MUHAMMAD Kashif RAZZAQ Jeep into a Rubicon by @Rob Harper early into the drive (after which he was exited) but after that it was pretty plain sailing. It was a lead I enjoyed because of the way the convoy really helped each other and was a good mixture of experience. I think that as drivers progress in the club they sometimes forget how much fun it can be to join drives at all levels (and not just at their rank) and this weekend has been a perfect example of that. More experienced drivers really help less experienced drivers by joining drives and driving a great line in front of them, helping with recoveries, sharing experiences. Stand out contributions from today: @Thomas Varghese: Flawless drive in 2nd lead. Followed every line and every instruction given. I am sure that @sheri was a beneficiary of that example. @Yousef Alimadadi I was was quite hard work as CF today and you did a great job done, using all the newly learned knowledge to everyone's benefit. @Watteau brilliant as Sweep. Calmy talking down drivers from their stucks (no mean feat because you are not so often stuck yourself), and self recovering very well when you did. I am sure that the churned up sand meant that you might even have been able to get the car out of 2nd gear today! Thanks for the assistance from everyone else who drove so well including @Niki Patel, @Humayun Ghias, @stavros papachristos, @Mobeen Anwar, @Sreejith Sreenivasan it was a pleasure. "As you start to walk on the way, the way appears" (Rumi) - Mystery Drive Report Dear Desertnauts. Although the general direction of the drive was revealed to Richard (@Wrangeld) and me this past Thursday, neither of us was sure of the details of the itinerary. Hence, as the Sufi Poet sings, we just started driving, and the way appeared 😜. The first part, in Murqaab, took our convoy in an unexplored area, just north of the entry, with tall, complex dune structures, while it surprised Richard's convoy with an unexpected repair job (witnessed by hot air balloons circling the idle convoy). After the first rendezvous, at the entry to the "Highway to Lisaili" (up to you to decide if it's a highway to Heaven or Hell), we proceeded toward the heart of Lisaili, where we all played on innumerous bowls, ridges and slopes, until we reconnected with our twin convoy, next to a camel farm. After the fly by, we had a great time, with the two groups running side by side, one crest apart, from the turnaround to the eastern reaches of Lisaili, the kingdom of long range dunes. Finally, we snaked our way around, literally guessing our way through the blinding, sand, to the pylon track running between Lisaili and Qudra, and across it toward the Lisaili Fort, through a nasty little set of technical dunes. All members drove brilliantly, overcoming the mostly inevitable refusals and stucks, the number of which demonstrates the challenging nature of the terrain, full of soft ridges, hidden pockets, and invisible drops, magnified toward the end by the glaring sun, making it very difficult to see and evaluate the shape and conditions of the sand ahead of the convoy. My great thanks go to all those who cooperated at recovering my 2 stucks, the second of which would have taken a long time and sweat to solve, if it hadn't been for Ahab's precious winch (while the first was a team effort - except on my part, as I was mostly furious with myself for not seeing the pocket, and my mechanic for, almost certainly, not reconnecting the A -Trac feature of my car). Great Second Lead by @Ahab Shamaa, impeccable Anchor by @Islam Soliman, precious coordination of the convoy by @Jeepie, and meticulous supervision by @Francois Germishuys in Sweep. My compliments to @Kenneth Bollhardt for a perfect debut as Fewbie, and hat off also to @Nihal17, @Goutam and @Rizwan Waheed, and @VipinShetty, who kept the pace, and completed the drive with great form. @Lorenzo Candelpergher I hope you managed to discover the full potential of your brand new Rubicon: thanks for joining last minute. I'd also like to thank the members of the second convoy - @Yousef Alimadadi, @Niki Patel, @Thomas Varghese, @Mobeen Anwar, @Humayun Ghias, @Watteau, @stavros papachristos, @sheri, @Sreejith Sreenivasan, @Rob Harper and the unlucky @MUHAMMAD Kashif RAZZAQ (hope your "shoulder" is repaired ASAP), for allowing us to double the convoy, and experience the exhilaration of driving in tandem through our beautiful desert. After all, after the first step, we did find quite a long way to go, completing a 72.1 Km drive in 4:47 hours (of which 3:09 moving) at the pace of 15 Km/h (23 Km/h while moving). After a short interlude and sleep in my chair I would like to thank everyone for this morning's drive my first time in that area and it was brilliant, I think both convoy's managed to arrive at the exit within minutes of each other. thanks again everyone.

Thank you Richard @Wrangeld for your kind words of appreciation. The only thing I had to do was follow your Pajero and I think my Xterra was not left far behind even though struggling to keep pace. I'm thankful I could witness your expertise in handling dunes upfront being the 2nd lead and believe me it was a treat to watch. You and @Ale Vallecchi's styles are different. Its like asking if you like the adventures of Indiana Jones or do you like the precision of Sherlock Holmes. Both are really good and both are my heroes. I consider Richard @Wrangeld to be Indiana Jones as the adventure is fast paced and turns out to be unexpected thrill all the way. @Ale Vallecchi is like Sherlock Holmes, very precise and investigates prior to any attempt before making a move but nonetheless daring and adventurous. I dread the time when I have to choose 1 marshal over the other to drive with as both are my favorites. Thank God it was the straw's decision which convoy I'm in today. @Wrangeld I'm really thankful for the valuable, left right, blip blip, 4Low crawl out technique you taught me on a previous drive. I'm successfully using it now a days and I hope you witnessed it in quick self recovery's used yesterday and today. @Yousef Alimadadi I suppose you had a week's gym workout today. I was amazed at the way you were directing the inexperienced drivers to self recover or to pull them out when needed. You have a very cool composed voice over the radio, never panicked at any situations. In fact the drivers who had the refusals or stucks must have felt very confident & reassured getting clear instructions from you. @Watteau even though driving a beast difficult to tame, I wonder how to managed to drive and direct the convoy from the back with a cool composure maintaining sharp focus doing multitasking. For sure the tracks must had been destroyed by all the cars in front of you but still you kept on chugging like the train and announcing that everything is well at the back. Thanks to everyone who joined the convoy and looking forward to play more with all of you soon in the sands.

Huge kudos to @Rob Harper for bringing his skills to perform the ‘rubicon’ upgrade on your Jeep ... @Thomas Varghese did you proud as SL! @Wrangeld THANKYOU for deciding to sacrifice an easy Saturday morning by the pool to create a second convoy so that we could join this super Saturday ride! Loved it and especially the highway! I didn’t know I had a love for Baja style driving!!! Appreciate the patience throughout! Thank you @Watteau first time on a drive with you and wow... such a calm and clear radio voice you have! Super sweep! Ps the only time you disappointed us was by teasing your winch on the forum... having the perfect moment to use it and.... then deciding to use a rope! All forgiven considering how great you were supporting all! @Yousef Alimadadi our star today and busiest driver.. shoveling, rope and reroutes ... huge thanks and an education for me on the CF role!

Thanks everyone who helped getting my car’s ‘Dislocated Shoulder’ fixed 😂. I had to exit the drive early as the risk of continuing the drive wouldn’t be worth it. The issue is minor, nothing serious but better safe than sorry. I’ll be waiting for the drive reports to see where the ‘Mystery’ route lead you all to. See you all next week.

All fixed, as I said it was a minor issue. I also got longer sway bar links, so the car is ready for action. See you next week.

Thank you to everybody for participating in this challenging adventure! The Shuwaib area is various with big dunes followed by technical areas, the shape of the dunes is very irregular in technical so it is a wonderful moment to learn. The drive, of course, was pushing the boundaries of a Fewbie plus to the limit and everybody did an exceptional job! @imranaasghar81: you did great! It's nice to see how you are improving each drive I meet you, your confidence and your skills. Keep driving with us! @Abdul Rahman Abdul Kader and @Danish Mohammad both of you did much better once moved on the front. Just need a few drives to understand better the characteristics of your car. @Abdul Rahman Abdul Kader remembers that in challenging terrains with a big convoy, listening to the instructions and keeping the convoy order is quite important! @Joe Biju Joseph you did a great , keep coming with us! Your H3 is not an easy car to handle sometimes! @Shehab Alawadhi I know your F150 is not at all an easy car to handle and you were, in the first part, just behind the Tundra with the same characteristics. I'm happy to see you way more confident on such terrains, I hope to see you soon there! Thanks to all the leaders and seniors for such a wonderful drive. Even though it was my first second drive for the same day I never felt tired, the terrain was keeping me active always and this happened to be my first drive with 0 refusal and struck and recovery. I apologize for keep all wait for me as I had to stop few times to inflate my tyre. This will be my memorable drive, thanks to the entire convoy. See you all soon!!

TRIP REPORT Shorter convoy means more fun. That was our fate for the day. With 3 no-shows we were left with the perfect 10. As we deflated and put our flags up, face paint and everything to renumber the convoy and get the briefing out of the way. We headed in to be parallel to another group to the right of us. We had to wait briefly for that convoy to cross us. We then headed right into some awesome rolling dunes as we negotiated our way towards our first play area on Pink Rocks. As we took our chances to try going as high as possible and safely come back down, more convoys started to come around us. At this point I announced for a last round and we managed to complete a round 2 before heading forward towards more challenges. It was pleasing to see the entire convoy cross over Pink Rocks to the other side. From here the only way I love and is a great learning ground is to the Big rolling dunes leading to the Big Red. I was able to play around in the big rolling dunes to my hearts content, thanks to a convoy which never let me down. Although we had a couple of convoys around us but we managed really well as a convoy to march on without being distracted. Soon we were at the base of Big Red and tried to scale it from the side. It's really a shame to see so many cross tracks as it's easy to loose momentum and we got a really bad stuck in a pocket behind Big Red. @Lakshmi Narasimhan rear bumper was rested on the dune behind with a steep climb in a soft patch. We were lucky to have a winch with @Richard Franks who selflessly volunteered and helped us out with the recovery. Guess what, it was my turn as I wedged myself in between 3 dunes and needed a pull from @Paul Zeitoun to come out of that situation. But the convoy was so determined that we were able to catch a different line and all the vehicles were on top of Big Red. This ofcourse was not void of challenges posed by other convoys trying to go between us. I am proud that out convoy stayed patient and sensible to avoid any issues. At this point the heat was slowly picking up and with the clock striking 10 am we were put and inflating. I am so pleased to see everybody coming so well prepared and following all instructions so well to have safe fun. Also the newbie convoys I have got recently are always willing to push themselves as they try to learn and polish their off road skills. @Rawad Bahsas was my second lead. Initially he seemed to leave a long gap and surely to compensate if I made any mistakes or was in danger. But after a quick word I saw hi. Comfortably taking his Y62 beast everywhere with utmost confidence ready to reroute or stop as necessary. @Ranjan Pattanaik was my surprise package with his Explorer as he traversed all dunes without a single hiccup. It takes a whole lot to handle that Explorer, and he came prepared as he explored all corners of Pink Rock and Big Red today. @Roger K with his LR3 was not a new sight for me. Having had a Discovery 1 I know the challenges that come along with this beast. But @Roger K knows how to tame this beast and I did not see him struggle. So he has managed to impress me 2 drives in a row now. The LR3 is not a climber, but maybe a bit moody, as I have seen it scale Faya. @Lakshmi Narasimhan drives the beautiful special edition Pajero with all the bells and whistles. He manages to put his machine through all the tests with flying colors. However a little refinement and finesse required to make the manoeuvres look awesome, he is practicing on those skills and I'm sure I will see him next time to have refined and move with grace. @Gregory was such a pleasure to have on the drive. Sure he was quiet, but smiling everytine I had a glance which tells me he enjoyed the journey to as much as I did. From the glimpses I had I could see him doing everything right and not a single step out of sync. @Nikola Bozovic was the savior today helping out @GauravSoni with his spare radio. @Nikola Bozovic had guests today and the way he handled his ride were comfortable throughout the trip and with their gestures all I can say were fully satisfied with his fine driving and our route selection. @GauravSoni from last time when he signed up for my drive and by mistake drove to @Gaurav bhai meeting point by mistake, this was going to be our first drive together. But his radio not being charged almost took this opportunity away from us, @Nikola Bozovic was able to lend his spare radio to save the day. @GauravSoni not only handled the terrain well but was putting in the hard work as a Centre Forward to keep the convoy moving. At one point @Gregory was stuck in a soft patch and his knowledge of the Pajero saved the day. @Richard Franks has a Rubicon and still discovering all the options available to him. Sway bar disconnect option is one of them which he did not need today. I was surprised to see him do about 60% of thrips with his traction control on. I hope you felt the difference one we had the ESC disabled. My moment of joy came when he announced he had a winch in @Lakshmi Narasimhan stuck. This was a lesson for all of us to be able to recover with such a difficult stuck. Can't thank @Richard Franks enough. Looking forward to many more drives with you. Last but by no means the least was our real Super hero today @Paul Zeitoun. Its such a pleasurable experience driving with you. Not only are you picking up awesome driving skills but also a sense of humor from some of the seniors in the club. At Pink Rock play area I really thought I was going to be without a sweep till the other side as you almost touched the Rocks on top. The Hemi is a real beast, but it needs its match to be able to do all that you did so gracefully. Seems like we both like to talk so much the rest of the convoy doesn't find a moment to put in a word of their own. I have always admired the way you handle the Ram, it has its challenges, but you really make it look simpler than it is. Thank you everyone for reading this section. Every now and then I like to go back and read through my own trip reports from the past as I reminisce some of those awesome trips I've had with some amazing people. Thank you everybody for joining that amazing drive! We had a big challenge to archive the route from Al Badayer to Shuwaib and we did it! 41 Km full of fun with any kind of terrain to prove our skills (and our cars :)). We also had the chance for a short night drive in the end that was adding a little spicy to an already impressive drive! @Abu Muhammad: Thank you for join us, I felt you comfortable in your second lead position. Your car was incredible. When you pulled me my Fortuner just flew :). @varunmehndiratta you did a great job with your Wrangler well done! Hope you enjoyed it with us! @GauravSoni you handled your Pajero very well! Well done! @Veedooshee your Pajero 3.5 was the most challenging car to manage in such high climb and bowls, I appreciated very much your attitude and your never-give-up mindset! It was definitely a thrilling late afternoon drive with all types of challenges that the route presented to us. Definitely an enriching experience. This area is very bushy with some tight dunes and soft patches at places. We will be heading towards fossil rock for a beautiful sunset and venture towards Khatim or east of fossil rock. There will be enough time and terrain to test your finesse along with doing climbs and sideys. Make sure your car low lying parts are removed (air dam and plastic parts especially for cars with low ground clearance ) , else you risk breaking them and bumpers for sure 🤣.Drives are always with a disclaimer that I/we are not certified mechanics to sort all issues if any which can happen on sands, will try to help to the best of our knowledge and abilities. Please ensure Covid appropriate behavior on the entire drive. Deflate to 15 psi for regular tires and 12 psi for all terrain tires See you on Sunday

Indeed we had a very good start. Everybody picked up very good pace with zero stuck or refusals. Little bit sad we couldn't finish all the way till the end. But everything is for good reason, cant wait to sign up for next drive soon.

Welcome @Wadepat2 , it seems we have the same LC100: Black, US-import V8 4.7L 😁 Since I got it on the cheap, I spent some dough "baselining" the car (the 90K miles Toyota recommended routine: timing belt, tensioner, pulley, etc.). First thing to get it desert-ready was replace the stock tyres with Yokohama Geolandar 275/70/R16 (keep it OEM specs so speedometer will be correct to prevent fines from overdriving 😂 ). Got some windfall, so went crazy and did 2" lift. Well, I still got stuck 😅, so it didn't help except boost confidence level by +10 points. Anyways, welcome fellow LC 100, let me know if you have questions regarding our "iron-block" + "non-interference" V8 engines 😊

DD = Daily Driver DD = Desert Driver I agree, both Xterra and Pajero 3.8 are very capable off-road and smooth on road vehicles. Don't be in a hurry, test a few before deciding which one gives you a good vibe. Plus having so many in the community gives you so much knowledge about these vehicles.

Great drive today with very little downtime because everyone kept moving. Thanks @Kailas @Anish S for leading. The mixture of challenges was amazing and this was my first visit to this desert.

Hi guys, we had a superb start and thank @Emmanuelfor the drive and for the route selection.the scenic beauty was a treat for us.unfortunately we had to exit due to the gear issue, but still enjoyed the drive.
