Dear Desertnauts last info about tomorrow's drive. Please follow Google Maps to reach the meeting and deflation point, which will be just off the small tarmac road leading to the Ritz-Carlton Desert Resort (you may find signs indicating the resort on the motorways). This small road will be off to the right on the Al Shohadaa Road, shortly after crossing (or turning from) E611, just a short while beyond the Sheikh Khalifa Specialty Hospital. Once reached the meeting point, please park either on the right side of the tarmac road, or in the gravel space to the left of the tarmac. We will be using Carnity Channel 1 (446.006). As already mentioned, the nature of the drive will be easy relatively easy from the technical point of view. Due to the nature of the terrain, with a great deal of vegetation (grass, shrubs and trees), and the presence of many locals' tracks, we'll drive at a leisurely pace, occasionally facing soft sand, some sharp drops or climbs (both short), and looking to practice some ridge riding on the very soft tops of longitudinal dunes. Together with the very different, almost savannah-like nature, these will be the major attraction of the drive. We'll divert from the tracks I have already driven in this area, to go looking for a couple of fields of these longitudinal dunes, while we are sure to find them toward the end of the drive. The convoy order reflects, once again in my drives, the composite nature of the drivers, equally split between Intermediates and Fewbie (or FB+). Last bit of introduction to the drive. We'll divert from the explored track in correspondence of the red circles, where we aim to explore some long range longitudinal dunes (Image 1) If time permits, we'll cross the tarmac and cross a small plateau of very soft dunes (blue marked area), ending right on the black mountain rocks (Image 2).

I have driven with @Lorenzo Candelpergher before and as it is he has a fast pace even for a fewbie drive. You can imagine what it will be for an IM Expert drive. Hope me and my car can cope with his pace. Its difficult to catch up with him when he is in full flow drive. Hope @Ahab Shamaa will not wonder where my marshal disappeared in a flash.

To make the drive less stressful on my car engine I changed the radiator to a slightly bigger 3 core one, put new fan clutch as old one looked weak and removed the thermostat valve as engine will get constant water circulation. Right now at garage doing the works and will be tested during tomorrow's drive with @Kailas. I don't want me or my machine slowing down the pace of the drive.

Not sure if this topic was brought up in Carnity in the past, or what the Carnity's Crew members think about it. Just wondering if we had or thought of doing a different type of Drives which are open to all levels or Fewbie levels at least and above, in which we choose a difficult spot and try to tackle it one after the other more than once, where we tend to test the capabilities of each car , trying to cross it with or without activating the diff lock, low vs high range gear, testing different tire pressures etc.. Maybe testing the effectiveness of each 4 wheel system and how each car reacts to different scenarios etc. Getting stuck on purpose and trying to get the cars out without having to worry about holding the whole convoy behind you. Usually on drives, whenever we pass through a difficult area and the sand gets churned we tend to reroute, so the chances to trying your car's and your driving capabilities aren't that high unless you are the car that got stuck. Watching youtube videos, you find a lot of interesting challenges that can be made. I'm interested to hear your thoughts about it. @Gaurav @Rahimdad, @Frederic @Srikumar

Jeep out numbers all others at least on sand, but not on this drive

Cosmetic mod is still a modification right? Had to get rid of the Prado Tire cover. (Shop bought a Prado one and put it on after the original flew off??) Not happy they lost an almost impossible to replace OEM cover but this OEM soft cover one is kind of cool. I didnt like the look with soft cover only so added the chrome back on it. haha I will likely remove this one and just run the Tire and wheel without cover. Will try to get pics of new tires later today for anyone following along with my build. Not much left to do replace on it now. For tomorrows drive, greased prop shafts, checked fluids, knocked some dust off air cleaner, cleaned AC evap the best I could in parking garage, adjusted hood latch and re-aimed new headlights.

This is what we do in carnity recovery master class as well. But to practice to that level on regular drives is not possible unless we are struck that bad on drives and have luxury of time. During drives if we spend maximum 5-10 min on a struck self recovery is a luxury, we tend to give a tug or winch out and get recovered asap. I understand self recovery in extreme situations is the core skill to be attained after being in this sport specifically after taking the master class. If at all we are in any such situation these experience will be handy or even life saving one. We cant go alone in deep desert and try all these. When we are in such a lovely group it is better to give it a try so that we have a helping hand and it is safe as well. Expensive adventure sport like this, what we drive can be crazy to few others, its there perspective and might not be their cup of tea, so we cant generalize that as crazy. I believe being reckless and practicing extreme things in controlled environment are different things.

As i said good idea ..how practical it is to arrange specifically is something team can advice. I have been on some drives with low number of drivers, where we did quite a bit of trials n experiments.....one of the drives with Chaitnya, we deliberately got the cars stuck and in one of the drives with Ale, drivers individually tried some obstacles repeatedly. Things related to vehicle - lowering down PSI on a specific drive or deciding that on specific day i want to go up on Superbowl or up faya with different approach is something I believe marshals always support if volunteered (just we ourselves need to be prepared that we might not do it properly) ...plus we can ourselves always plan few drives out of general drives to experiment.. Of course j am in for any such drives ..

I'm looking for a drive that we don't cover many Kms, we can just go to a tough technical place even if it is 2 Km from the road. We spend two hours and return back. we can on purpose churn up the sand, and start trying our vehicles limits, finding the slowest speed to cross, trying it on different tire pressures, we can even go as low as 6 psi just to get out, in case we encountered such thing one day in desert.. maybe try to deflate from 14 to 12 then to 10 and see how much difference does it do on a certain situation. Check how the difflock can actually help and when it doesn't on your own car, and check how effective it is, some difflocks won't make any difference as they don't really lock. If we find a soft patch of sand it would be even better, where everybody gets the chance to stop and try to get out of it. I don't know there are many things that we can do and learn. Not sure if you guys are getting what I'm looking for? I've reached intermediate level and only got the chance to use the shovel twice, i won't be holding off a newbie convoy just to get stuck on purpose or just to try some of the options in my car.

Please click totally agree for the COVID precautions PREPARATION FOR THE DRIVE AND WHAT TO EXPECT 1) Please ensure that you reach the meeting point on time, i.e., 5:00 AM sharp. Reaching 10 mins early would be better, but dont be late. Also, ensure that you have tow points at the front and rear with 8 inch (min ground clearance) 2) All first timers with Carnity need to ensure that they have gone through the Newbie briefing Video : 3) The senior members on tomorrow's drive would be myself, Richard @Wrangeld and Fred @Frederic 4) We will be using Carnity Channel 1 tomorrow. (446.00625 Mhz). The instructions to program the radio are provided in the below post. Please ensure that you have a fully charged and programmed radio before the drive. If you are a first timer with Carnity we shall provide you with a spare radio for this drive, if you dont have one. 5) All traction controls, ABS and Air bags need to be switched off. While turning off traction control is mandatory, its ok if you are unable to turn off the Airbags for this drive. Traction Control, ABS and Airbags can be disabled by a button or by pulling the fuse. Incase of any queries you can always ask me or the senior members before the drive or better still, post your queries on this drive post and we would assist. 6) You will need a pressure gauge , deflator and a compressor for this drive 7) For highway tyres you can deflate to 15 psi. Those who have AT tyres, you can deflate to 13 psi. 8 ) Feel free to ask questions at any time. COVID PRECUATIONS COVID is still very much there, so once you reach the meeting point, park your cars at sufficient distance from each other. Always wear your masks while stepping out of your cars. It will require your full and undivided concentration at every step, as the pace will be extremely high and the technical difficulties quite significant. We will take some occasional brakes to let you rest a bit and allow you to take a quieter breathe, but please make sure that you come absolutely well rested and that you don’t have any reason for being distracted (if you plan to take photos, please do so only when we stop and secure your gear so that it doesn't become a concern during the drive, if you plan to take videos, please fix your gear, start it and then forget about it). Secure very strongly everything else you will have in the car otherwise it will be flying all over and again it cannot become a distraction. Please remember that we absolutely discourage bringing any passengers along with you. We will be using Carnity Channel 2 (446.03125MHz). This channel in particular belongs to a professional certified team in KSA that provides off road rescues, and they do these challenges in their spare time. They speak in Arabic but they provide very valid insights about how to get unstuck if you are alone

This will be really good to experiment, m sure might not be possible on regular drives or not possible to try few things even on newbie drive, but can be done as a separate drive which we can request for and hopefully it is organized based on the demand. Possibly we can even record ever ones drive on maximum possible angles to see the approach, descent, sloping, momentum, fishtailing etc to analyze and correct that and try same stunt multiple times to refine our skills and understand our car much better!!!! I am in for it. Even once in a month or two will also help.

Few pics of new tires. Not easy to find , slightly more expensive then Geolandars. Quite ride, absorb bumps better than my other tires. They seem heavier then my highway Nexens but guess that's to be expected. 275/70r16 Michelin Force. Fingers crossed I don't need to swap them on Dubizzle for Geo's haha

Lawrence i think this is already being done in most of the newbie and fewbie drives as Varun has mentioned above. It depends on the convoy and the speed at which it moves where it gives the Marshals time to decide how much time can be given in the play area. My personnel experience has been very good (simpler car also i suppose) but i have always asked the question and Marshals have been more than happy to help, guide and assist in whichever way they can, rest is up to us to try and experiment capabilities of our car and mostly ourselves 🤣 (with safety being first priority for us and co drivers).

@Lakshmi Narasimhanwho can compete with Pajeros when it comes to number of cars man!!... this is the first time I see 3 Y62s in a single drive
