  1. Seems my last communication did not scare anyone off the challenge that awaits - great. Here are the convoy positions for the drive. Sincere apologies @PaoloMaraziti and @Looper We are a 12 car convoy and to extend the convoy runs the risk of disjointed communication and in this company (leviathans at the back) massively churned sand. Had this been first drive for either of you, I would have accommodated the request, but we always need to keep safety at a higher premium than anything else - on this occasion, I am afraid you did not make the convoy. @Werno @Sunil Mathew @Zixuan Huang - Charlie @Chinthaka Ruwan @Alain Canivet-Abikhalil @Hisham Masaad @Rawad @Darren Brooke @Humayun Ghias @darren thompson @Ale Vallecchi You all made it to the drive. Just know that if for any reason you do not turn up on Saturday morning there were two drivers eagerly awaiting your space and it's to them that any apologies need to be addressed. I am sure that both @PaoloMaraziti and @Looper can change their plans with some notice and turn up if you are going to drop out - if you are don't just remove your RSVP and hope that someone finds it while looking through: POST IT HERE ON THE FORUM so that everyone can see and act accordingly. As for the people on the drive expect technical, expect soft sand, expect some ridges and expect some crisscross and a relatively fast pace so that we can make it from the Lisaili start point to Last Exit [implies not a lot of time spent on play areas and the need to keep moving]. No specific theme for the day - but I do warn you there's plenty more dad jokes out there waiting to be inflicted on what is a very captive audience. Enjoy your Friday. See you soon in the sand.

  11. @Josh T. @ShereenMK @Santoso Marjuki @Mikhail Lukichev @Nabeel Abdul Rahman @John Vanderbleek @Anand Aherkar @Mohammed Abuamer @sibi thomas The meeting point has been updated on both the original post as well as the calendar event. I have mentioned the same below for a ready reference as well https://goo.gl/maps/Loy4FD3HAnE4Yo4k6 As we are less than 24 hours from the start of the drive, here is a brief of what we plan to do tomorrow: PREPARATION FOR THE DRIVE AND WHAT TO EXPECT 1) Please ensure that you reach the meeting point on time, i.e., 6:00 AM sharp. Reaching 10 mins early would be better, but dont be late. Also, ensure that you have tow points at the front and rear with 8 inch (min ground clearance) 2) All first timers with Carnity need to ensure that they have gone through the Newbie briefing Video : 3) The senior members on tomorrow's drive would be @Nivin and myself. 4) We will be using Carnity Channel 3 tomorrow. (446.05625 Mhz). The instructions to program the radio are provided in the below post. Please ensure that you have a fully charged and programmed radio before the drive. If you are a first timer with Carnity we shall provide you with a spare radio for this drive, if you dont have one. 5) All traction controls, ABS and Air bags need to be switched off. While turning off traction control is mandatory, its ok if you are unable to turn off the Airbags for this drive. Traction Control, ABS and Airbags can be disabled by a button or by pulling the fuse. Incase of any queries you can always ask me or the senior members before the drive or better still, post your queries on this drive post and we would assist. 6) You will need a pressure gauge and deflator as a minimum. If you have a compressor it would be better as the compressor at Last Exit does malfunction from time to time. 7) For highway tyres you can deflate to 15 psi. Those who have AT tyres, you can deflate to 13 psi. 8 ) Feel free to ask questions at any time. 9) Convoy Numbering will be posted today evening after 8 pm. We shall be starting the drive on some flat tracks and would build up the pace from there depending on the convoy response. We will be driving for about 3.5 hours practicing driving in sand, proper steering control, crossing some dunes, and getting you and your vehicle more familiarized with the desert. By 10:00 am we will be heading out towards the ADNOC gas station. COVID PRECUATIONS COVID is still very much there, so once you reach the meeting point, park your cars at sufficient distance from each other. Always wear your masks while stepping out of your cars. Once done deflating, please get back into your cars immediately. Drivers will be responsible for the compliance of their passengers as well.

  14. Dear Desert Wanderers, this RSVP is now closed. Please find below the convoy order for our drive: @Arman, @PaoloMaraziti, @Hasan Wahlan, @Farouq Owdeh, @Mario Cornejo, @Mus_hus78, @Ruan van den Heever, @Xavier Treasurer, @Lakshmi Narasimhan, @GauravSoni, this drive is going to be thrilling and exciting, but also very demanding from a technical point of view, both mentally for the drivers and mechanically for the cars. It will require your full and undivided concentration at every step, especially when we will reach elevated positions on steep slopes, so make sure you come well rested and hydrated and that and you don’t have any reason for being distracted. Also, please consider carefully if you wish to bring passengers along with you. We will be using Carnity Channel 4 (446.08125Mhz). Our meeting point is confirmed at E16 Al Taf Road - https://goo.gl/maps/ht1HmGSnbw1ans5d7 See you tomorrow morning, ready to go (i.e. already caffeinated, deflated, flagged and briefed) by no later 5:30am (sharp), so make sure you make it to the meeting point at least by 5:15am.

So i already decided to install the Sony ax8000 anyway, ax5500 also not available everywhere, i think if you are focus on sound quality Sony is good.

  41. Pre Drive Thoughts The dunes are living, moving entities literally shifting sands as the wind moves them from one place to another, changing their shapes and structure in new and unexpected ways. I visited Margham last week to be surprised that an area that had been full of lovely wide play bowls a mere 6 months ago was no longer the easy cruising route that I remembered. Which is partly why I wanted to bring a Newbie convoy back into this area. Even though the big bowls are no longer quite the fun they were, this route benefits from: Some amazingly beautiful scenery and different pink colored sand all the challenges that a newbie needs to conquer (ascents/descents/light technical/swooping dunes) Lots of virgin sands (a lot less cross tracks) Options to end the drive in three different locations This is a drive where you will put what you learned to date into practice and learn some new important skills that will be needed as you continue in your off road journey. See you soon in the sand.

  44. Shuweihat Island, Location, Waypoints, Photos, Videos, Reviews and Feedback from the travellers who visited before. Shuwaihat Island offers the best mix of clear water shallow beaches with beautifully textured rocks and zero light pollution to enjoy the stars like never before. This island is a perfect place for any photographer to capture incredible shots of great variety from the sky, water, rocks, sun, beach, sea in one place. Sandstone colour rocks and low-lying cliffs that look like mini caves are mesmerizing in itself. Shuweihat Island is about 3 hours and 30 minutes away from Dubai and 2 hours and 30 minutes from Abu Dhabi. As you will be driving on International Highway E11 so be confident to overtake truckers every now and then at high speed. Although you can reach in a sedan car, but getting closer to the water or reaching to tall rocks or crossing the rocky terrain 4WD is better. I visited Shuwaihat Island on the last national day weekend and this place was very crowded with hundreds of cars. Shuweihat Island scenery is so beautiful that you can spend hours doing nothing and enjoying the nature if you plan to visit during good weather. You can enjoy the rocky formation and clear water shoreline is amazing, of course with sandals as the beach is mixed with sand and rocks. If you plan to stay here for long, you should carry enough water and food as there is no grocery or cafeteria nearby. You can fill up the petrol in the last Adnoc Fuel station at Qareen Al Aish and pack up the food supplies as this Adnoc gas station is big enough to have a convinient store, ATM, restaurant and toilets. Adnoc at Qareen Al Aish: https://goo.gl/maps/PSQ2hvJWHJy This is my recommended spot that I found the best in terms of scenic beauty and access to the beach. https://goo.gl/maps/B3utEm8nYmv 24Β°06’42.2”N 52Β°25’57.4”E Reviews: Tripadvisor - 4 out 5 based on 10 reviews Google: 4.6 out of 5 based on 152 reviews Best time to visit: October to May, when the weather is not too hot for outdoor. Shuweihat Island Entry Fee: There are no charges to visit or using public areas Shuweihat Island Timing: It is open 24/7, 365 days, you can enjoy in day and night too. Shuweihat Island Camping: Not sure if it's allowed everywhere, as part of Shuweihat Island is owned by Army. If you happen to make an attempt, keep it clean and less noisy and you might get away. Essentials: Outdoor clothing and closed footwear, few good torches or flashlight if you plan to stay after dark. Online GPS is a must for driving (offline is even better), carry plenty of water and food if you plan to stay outdoors for long hours. Keep it clean: Don't litter anywhere, because trash cans, plastic and glass kill wildlife. Emergency: If bitten by a snake or a Scorpio take a picture or remember the colour and size and rush to the nearest hospital for a specific antidote for that species. Keep yourself calm, so your blood pressure and heartbeat stay low to help you minimize the effect. Feedback: Please leave your feedback below if you have been to Shuweihat and like to add something more.
