Drive Description The Tropic of Cancer is one of five major circles of latitude. The TOC crosses the UAE, completely within Abu Dhabi Emirate, for a distance of 337kms approx. in a straight line. While in 2016, Max Calderan has completed this crossing on foot, we will be using our 4x4's, which will be challenging enough as is Extreme explorer becomes first man to walk 211 miles across world's harshest unexplored desert - World News - Mirror Online Drive Details Level: Fewbie Plus and above. When: 18th Feb 2023 Saturday Meeting time: 7:00 AM (SHARP - Without any exceptions). Meeting Point: https://goo.gl/maps/9k8wQu8WrkNmwbNk8 In front of the mosque Type of Car: Any 4x4 with front and back tow hooks and 8-10 inches of ground clearance. What to bring along: Offroad tools as per your level, plenty of water (5l per day), snacks, packed lunch. Extra petrol as per below requirements. Approximate finish time: 6 PM Sunday 19th of Feb Action Plan In this overlanding expedition, we will head out with our convoy and meet up in the town of Ghayati on Bad Al Mutawah Road: https://goo.gl/maps/9k8wQu8WrkNmwbNk8 From there we will need to venture Southwards towards the closest point with the KSA border, and that is our official starting point on the TOC line: https://goo.gl/maps/ngDp4GykpaLirFQJ9 (this would take approx 1hr). The plan is to stay within a maximum of 500m of the TOC line, except in areas where we would need to cross the road or go around fences. Preparations As this is an overlanding expedition, specific attention for recovery equipment, fluids, and car maintenance checkup will be essential. Furthermore, as we will be moving in a straight line mostly, we will need to avoid play areas or bowls, and save our fuel as much as possible. This drive will test your endurance skills and patience immensely. In other words, this is not a dune-bashing experience type of drive. Our end point will be in Al Quaa, near the border with Oman: https://goo.gl/maps/X6eyi1oHu1SvLeji7 As per our planning, this would be in total close to 500km, of which we will be avoiding tarmac as much as possible. In Day 1 we plan to cover about 240kms (from Ghayati to Madinat Zayed E45) of which 160km Offroad. In Day 2 we plan to cover about 260kms (from Madinat Zayed E45 to Al Quoa Town). We will be crossing the following main roads, these can be used as exits and refuel points. Below an overview of the several waypoints: Day 1: Meetup at 5AM at the ADNOC GHAYATHI (approx 3,5hrs driving from Dubai) First Fuel point: ADNOC AL GHAYATHI: https://goo.gl/maps/QrxbAANtUTJehn4h9 Possible Top up Point on the way to the Start: ADNOC BEDA AL MATAWA https://goo.gl/maps/EMVP9nbhswbo5XbR7 We will camp overnight and refuel nearby the E45 Maraba Al Dhafra: https://goo.gl/maps/sAVNFJrhQPLNy6HA9 Waypoints TC1....TC31 will be covered Day 2: Start from Camping Spot nearby ADNOC Maraba Al Dhafra (see above) Arriving late in the evening at Al Quaa, we can find a nice camping spot and camp overnight, or drive back to Dubai (approx 2,5hrs from Dubai). Dear Sand Sailors Thanks for RSVPing for the drive. Believe @Simon D has already summed up how fast the slots went through - really appreciate the response and i am hoping we will be as swift during the drive as well A drive in Sweihan has been long overdue for me and i am really looking forward to explore the magnificent dunes of this beautiful area, Surely couldnt have asked for a stronger convoy and especially with the company of Lord of adrenaline pumping drives @Hisham Masaad, we are in for some amazing fun. With 5 days to go for this drive, lets get to the business.. This terrain is going to demand some clear ground rules and preparation. So, lets be sure about the same before we land up at meeting point on Saturday. a.) This area demands exceptional Radio communication skills. One miss communication and the whole convoy can be stuck for a long haul. So, please make sure you are very comfortable managing radio. 1. No Radio = No Drive. 2. No sufficient battery in radio = No drive 3. Missed communication and we might have to exit the driver. I am sure you all appreciate that safety is paramount. b.) Unless fully convinced about yours and your vehicle's climbing ability, avoid passengers for this drive. Keep the vehicle light and your mind free of any distractions. I can assure you, this is not a drive which passengers will cherish. c.) Check that your vehicle is in perfect shape. You will need all the power that it possess through this drive. d.) Ensure you have all your off-roading gears in perfect condition. e.) Coming back after a long break from sand - in general my advice is always to go for FB+ or FB drive, before going ahead for Int. drive. Ofcourse, this is just a recommendation based on experience. f.) Above all, please be fully rested for the drive. So, plan all parties for Saturday night. Another, key element - We have 9 drivers on WL, so please ensure that if your plan changes or you are not sure about your plans, please update the RSVP well in time - lets not lose a slot while we have a long WL.. Thanks for your understanding. Thanks again for your response. Looking forward to see you all on Saturday. @Gertjan @Waqas Parvez @ASAD. @Vaibhav @Imran Kashif @MMansoor @Naveen Raj @Sunil Mathew @Ranjan Das @Beide Worku WL (not in any order) - @Gerrit Bus @Mohamad Anwer @Simon D @Archibald Jurdi @Ashutosh Garg @Karthikeyan Govindarajan @Tareq Al Turq @Chris Wing @Alexanderrr11 points

Hi everyone! Fellow motorcyle adventurer turned 4-wheeler adapting to my new life in UAE, and loving it so far. Very excited to grow and learn as much as possible about the desert. I am a very passionate person and seriously dedicated when there is motivation, which I see there is a lot of here. I have done some basic desert offroading, so not totally new to sand, and I have experienced a few challenging recoveries I could solve successfully. Looking forward to digging in all the way (pun not intended)! I drive a Wrangler that looks like it was made for El Chapo or something. Hope to see you all very soon!7 points

@Hisham Masaad thank you for leading us through this terrain; as usual, we barely have time to switch to 4x4 and kill the traction control at the start of the drive. It was great to drive with such a team of experienced drivers. @Ashutosh Garg SL is not always easy; however you kept up with the pace and as usual drove well. @Tareq Al Turq great to see you again mate - the Prada lived up to the expectations. @Charbel amazing drive mate - you were our CL and kept the convoy together at all times. @Mohamad Anwer great to see you in a SWB Patrol mate; i am sure that you will have lots of fun driving this challenging beast. @Sunil Mathew as usual, no issues for you to keep up with the convoy - well done. @Chris Wing great to catch up with another Mauritian during the drive. the FJ is simply outstanding. @Simon D the sound of the Ferrari engine could be heard across the dunes - thanks for supporting the team mate. @Mehmet Volga first time driving with you - looking forward to our next drive with you as the lead. Cheers friends7 points

Everyone has diff motivations at diff stages. My goal at sweep (whenever I get lucky) is to see how different ppl tackle the same dune and angle differently, 1 m left, 2 m right, and still have logic to prove and smile, lol. I simply love sweeping to appreciate the real beauty of the desert, cars, and convoy flow. It's mesmerizing.6 points

Welcome, @Parliament! Your goal should be to get to sweep as soon as you can, so our marshals don't see you and you can drive your jailbreak like you stole it. Catch you on a drive soon.6 points

@Parliament welcome to the @Carnity family; i am sure that you will enjoy the drives as you will always be surrounded by members that will be willing to help / support you in any situation. Couple of quotes that you will hear quite often during the drives: Don't drive like it is your last drive - advice from @Looper before any drive Yalla push - from @Hisham Masaad Gravity is your friend - from all marshals and support team And finally - ENJOY YOUR DRIVE Cheers4 points

Welcome to Carnity @Parliament I too made that move from two wheels Mach 2 with hair on fire to 4 wheels off road, best decision ever, although I did love the lean angles and wondering if the coefficient of friction would hold up as designed look forward to seeing your shoveling skills in action!4 points

With the pleasant weather these days, we decided to head out to Wadi Naqab with the aim of doing a bit of wadi driving and a hike of a couple of hours. PART 1 - EASY WADI DRIVE The first meeting point of the Wadi is here: 25.70380, 56.06568 https://goo.gl/maps/d4YQpADWo5w2AXHF8 From here you can park if you have a sedan, but it will be a long hike to head into the actual wadi. It is recommended to have a 4x4 / SUV and drive further into the wadi. We were able to park here: 25.71719, 56.11140 https://goo.gl/maps/K8d8BSt2JbyVqe3b8 PART 2 - EASY WADI HIKE This first part (purple) is like walking in a riverbed and is not difficult at all. You can visit the Wadi Naqab cave on the track itself. Nothing special but cool to have a short walk inside. Its not that deep. PART 3 - MODERATE WADI HIKE If you feel adventurous, the second part (in green) becomes moderately hard: 25.72103, 56.12474 https://goo.gl/maps/zGjHQFKWEroC5sdRA From here you will need to actually climb over big boulders and navigate your way through it. Not hard, but for a regular couch potato it becomes quite a bit of challenge perhaps We managed to go up to the purple pinpoint, and then decided to turn back as we met other people that told us to reach the end it was easily another 1 hour. 25.71943, 56.13054 https://goo.gl/maps/PkMpTkuFUxQEfe4f8 According to Google Maps, there is a pool further down called Wadi Koub (perhaps another 1,5hrs), we will aim for that the next time perhaps. That part is in red on the above map. Some precautions: - There is no cell phone signal in the mountains - Bring at least 1.5-2 liter of water per person - Wear long pants and hiking boots to avoid twisting your ankle. Ambulance is not nearby ! rak-wadi-naqab-pt2-moderate.gpx rak-wadi-naqab-pt1-easy.gpx rak-wadi-naqab-drive.gpx3 points

Hi @Benjamin, i have hurricane shocks with 20 point adjustable, remote reservoirs on my Fortuner, got it fitted in October '22 after i broke the stock ones on a Sweihan drive... so far, i am perfectly happy with what it can do.. i was a bit budget conscious when i wanted to upgrade, and this one fit my bill perfectly after hearing some good reviews from some of my friends...stopping here, lest the post crosses the line and becomes a brand promotion π2 points
