  1. Any idea guys how many spare parts make one full car? And which brand or model has least amount of parts in it? Also am I right to assume that least parts = least probability to go wrong?

  2. Which is the best out of the box 4x4 for desert driving? By out of the box, I mean completely standard, as the factory built it, no modifications other than deflated tires. And why? Old cars, new cars all inclusive. Anyone can spend thousands on something and make it good but I'm interested in what is good without spending anything other than the purchase price. And also interested in different cars according to price range too.

  7. I am a mechanic. My honest opinion is that these cleaning additives don't work. I know because I had a tie up with an oil company and gave some customers free samples to try. Nothing changed anything. As a mechanic, I've rarely seen injectiors giving trouble. When they do, the only solution is to take them out and either clean them manually or do ultrasonic cleaning. Dont believe the hype. If the fuel being supplied was so bad that all the cars were breaking down, we'd be in a constant traffic jam.

  8. My AC Delcos have always failed during 11 months exact! Atleast i got the warranty. Had to buy it again the 3rd year as my wife was stuck on the road and 800-BATTERY does AC DELCOs. Stay away from AC Delco. I have heard AMARON is very good and will post about it when it dies.

  9. Indeed it's a brilliant question to give some idea that how much parts reliability and total harmony forms a single car and how much possibilities exists to all or few to go wrong to make your car ownership experience a living hell. In my estimate today world car in 2016-2017 model each car must be having over 200-300 critical components and 6000-8000 non critical components. This numbers will be more in German cars as they like to stuff their cars too much and lesser in Japanese.

  10. This depends on the car, but to give you an idea, BMW E36 consists of 3600-odd parts. This includes everything from the engine block to the clips holding trim panels in place. I know this because I worked in the BMW factory in South Africa at one time on a contract basis. This was in the mid-1980's when I still traveled extensively, and for what it's worth, it took 7 hours to build an E36 from scratch- from the time the first weld happens, to the time the last badges are attached. In those days, this translated into one complete car leaving the factory every 7.5 minutes, but all of this was a long time ago so I have no idea how long it takes to build a BMW now.

  11. Awesome clicks as usual by @Gaurav bhai and @Asif Hussain, with the pictures you can make out an understand the white sands of Lisali and how difficult they are to read once the sun comes out. Very well managed by all and excellent lead from Gaurav Bhai to manage the convoy through some challenging but doable dunes.

  14. I would like to apologize to all for this drive which turned out several levels above most participants ability. At the same time I would like to thank each and every one personally for showing such patience and quick learning that we were all able to make it in and out without any major issues. It was a very sharp learning curve for all of us and everyone performed well above their capacity. A few cosmetic damages but thank God no major issues. I am really impressed with @baselsm83 for making the second lead his own position. So well done. I'm impressed with the way @skumar83 backed me up every inch of the way in sweep duties with his sister. I cannot thank @Abdul Basit Khan enough for jumping out ahead of me to assist with recoveries. I would be able to make it without his help. As for @DiamondDallas@Barry, Kris, @shadow79, @Asif Hussain, @RajuBhat without their patience, quick learning and absolute commitment we would have a very challenging but dull trip. Their enthusiasm and willingness to learn kept us all motivated. Well done guys and gals. Finally @Gaurav Bhai who was so excited for this trip. He has done so very well and earned my respect on this trip for having faith and knowledge. He ackowledged that it was more challenging than intended, asked me to keep faith in his knowledge, shared with me at every step his action plan and got us all out in 1 piece just ahead of the Friday prayers. Well done Gaurav bhai and looking forward to doing the same area with a few selected people as an intermediate drive. Thank you all for all the love and support and for the absolutely delicious breakfast. I was so full I only had my dinner in the night, had to skip lunch. Overall a challenging drive which I would not like to repeat in the near future, but definitely one to look forward to after a few relaxing drives.
