  1. Well, not sure where to start, but by just agreeing that it is a great topic.

    The approach I took was a bit different: decided on the Y61 SWB, researched about the most common / possible changes, I then concentrated on suspension and safety.  Mostly, I think that carrying with changes is part of the off road fun.

    Hope we meet in a drive soon for a conversation on the subject.

  2. Great topic, I carry the basic kit easily available at all pharmacies and I added electrolyte sachets, burn aid treatment, antihistamine, skin sun protector.

    There is a UAE based business that sells off road products, among them a first aid molle pouch containing:

    1 x Buckle Tourniquet (2.5 x 45cm)
    1 x Emergency Blanket (130 x 210cm)
    1 x Military Trauma Dressing (4inch)
    1 x Pair of Nitrile Gloves
    2 x Sterile Combine Dressings (10 x 20cm)
    1 x Conforming Elastic Bandage (7.5 x 450cm)
    1 x Disposable CPR Face Shield
    1 x Pair of Shears (Scissors 18.5cm)
    1 x Burn Dressing (40 x 60cm)
    5 x Adhesive Band Aids (1.9 x 7.2 cm)

    An item I am curious about, that I don't see included in first aid kits, is the combat gauze or "hemostatic dressing", perhaps in this forum we could get some feedback or opinion about including it or not in a first aid kit.

    This picture 😂! unapproved recovery technique, but worked to bring the car from that awkward position.

  4. At the outset, a thank you to @Islam Soliman for hosting today's drive and a pleasure to meet all there.  Appreciation goes too to @Emanuel as SL, @Looper in CF and @munkybizness in SW for keeping the convoy moving safely.

    These drives are of good learning for all and an important take away, in my opinion, is learning to drive with finesse in technical areas, where terrain confabulates against horsepower or any mods you have in your car.  This is when nothing beats your skills to read the sand and control your car.

    Equally important is to attain recovery skills and this drive gave us all the opportunity to practice "the art of shoveling", "full left-full right" and very important when in a stuck/refusal situation: "easy on the gas".

    This drive gave me the opportunity to test a new 4x4 platform, the LWB Y61!  For over a year I've been driving the smaller version, Y61 short wheel base, which is perfect for technical terrains and is much lighter.  Today's drive was of learning for me too, controlling the car on sides slopes, testing tire pressure, crossing crests, etc.  It was a fun drive overall.

    Keep the "momentum" and drive safely!

  5. Hello everybody, it was an absolute pleasure to be back in a @Carnity drive and equally a delight to meet all of you.  It was a great drive in the beautiful and challenging area of Lisaili.

    Thank you @Islam Soliman for hosting the drive and for the knowledge sharing with all of us.

    I echo the previous comments, @Davie Chase had a stellar performance supporting each and everyone during the drive, a big applause 👏 !!

  6. @Jad Moussalli the best approach is to get a flag holder fabricated by an off road garage. We cannot recommend through this forum, but you can do a search, call some of them and inquire.  Some of them may sell suction cups.

    Other alternatives:

    - visit car accessories shops, there are many scattered all Quoz, Ras Al Khor, Barsha (Umm Suqeim Rd), they may have a solution for your car.

    - Off Road Souq group in Facebook

    Just out of curiosity, could you share the location where this happened? that sand looks very soft, the area very technical too.

    Hi @munkybizness the terrain will be different, but I assume you still will need your car to perform climbs (short, sustained, steep, etc.) then, also assuming that you will need heavier tires, and with the weight the additional equipment will bring in, then perhaps you may want to research about upgrading the gear and pinion of your car, bring it from 3.55 to 4.70.

    The comment I heard was specific to the AT3s 4S.  I used the tires for about 40K on sand and road, there are no negative observations I can share.

    Forgot to add: I heard that Coopers AT3s don't have stronger sidewalls.  Other brands to check are the new BFG's Trail Terrain, I've seen them for sale in tire shops, and the Michelins LTX Force.

  10. @munkybizness - just a couple of comments from what I've read in this post and my own experience with the Y61 SWB: check the manual as there are 6 types of wheels and tires recommended for the Y61, if you decide to go for 285 tires, then double check the offset of the wheels so that they don't rub and damage the fenders.  Your current wheels are 17 x 8 JJ, offset +ve 10mm.

    Also, consider the following: bigger tires mean added weight and a bigger diameter.  The diameter will affect the gear ratio of your car (Y61 Automatic Transmission has an end GR of 3.55, Manual Transmission models have a GR of 4.53) and, coupled to the added weight of the tires, you will feel some under performance when climbing.  The site tiresize.com has some tools to compare tire sizes, estimate the effective gear ratio and wheel offset, these will help simulate scenarios.
