Boney John
Hi everyone, I would like to ask all your valuable experience regarding rim size. I am new to this group , have recently bought a 2012 3.5L pajero (4 door)with 78k km. I have stock 17" rims on it ,thinking of changing to a stylish rim, maybe 18" or 19. I dont plan to do much off road driving , so it would just be for a cosmetic change . I just did a sample try in a shop near sharjah * (pic below but that was 20"). I have no idea about Tyre sizes or alignment and stuff like that. Kindly give some advice on this . Thanks :)
Gaurav
I haven't understood your question clearly, what exact advise you are looking for.....! 17 inch itself is borderline acceptable for offroading if you bump to 18 or 19 with a low profile or medium profile tire its a COMPLETE NO for offroading. I really doubt you can add normal profile tire on 18 or 19 without lifting 2-3 inch or else it will result in rubbing the wheel arch on turning. 1 Let's root for each other & watch each other grow. Srikumar
@Gaurav he has mentioned that he is looking for a bigger rim for cosmetic purpose only as he rarely drives off-road. I have seen stock Pajero with bigger than 18 inch rims, but I guess you need to get a good rim and not just from the Iranian shops as they might cause vibration at high speeds. This is only a hunch, am not sure though.
Boney John
As I said , i wont be going offroad at all . I like big rims. So i was thinking if ever i put an 18” or 19” would that be an issue in handling / fuel economy/ or any other disadvantages .
Gaurav
Now its clear, what's your current tire size like 265/55/R17.....? And what's the stock tire size mentioned in owner manual? 1 Let's root for each other & watch each other grow.

Stock size for pajero is 16” Rim-265/70/16 17” Rim-265/65/17 18” Rim-265/60/18 (For 3.8 Only)
Gaurav
16” Rim-265/70/16 = 30.6 Inch 17” Rim-265/65/17 = 30.6 Inch 18” Rim-265/60/18 = 30.5 Inch 19” Rim-270/55/19 = 30.7 Inch 20” Rim-265/50/20 = 30.4 Inch You can calculate your stock tire height first and then upgrade to any other wheel size + downgrade the profile of tire to result in overall similar height, to avoid any rubbing issues. Here's how to calculate tire height Example: 16” Rim-265/70/16 = 30.6 Inch 265 x 70% = 185.5 mm (One side profile height of tire) 185.5 x 2 = 371 mm (up and down profile height of tire) 371 mm = 37.1 cm = 14.6 Inch (Total profile height of tire in Inches) 14.6 Inch + 16 Inch Wheel = 30.6 Inch total tire height 5 Let's root for each other & watch each other grow. Boney John
Mines 265/65/R17 . Anyways will check out with some shops. I heard that bigger size rims wil reduce fuel consumption n ride quality .
shadow79
The bigger the rims get...the thinner the tire wall gets why do you want to experience each and every pot and hole on the road...

I heard that bigger size rims wil reduce fuel consumption n ride quality . Bigger size rims = more expensive tyres. Bigger size rims = more offset in actual speed shown on speedometer. Bigger size rims = not ideal if you or your significant other likes to park against the curbs. Bigger size rims = will probably slightly increase fuel consumption, but not sure of that. Bigger size rims = less tyre height = will drive "harder" on the road, less comfort. Bigger size rims = will make you stand out more of the "regular" Pajero driving crowd 2 1 2 "Go as far as you can see; once you get there, you'll be able to see further."
