Although I have been in Dubai since 2012 I just joined this community a few days ago. Looking forward to be part of it and meet other enthusiasts. My daily driver is currently a Volvo XC90 V8 which was originally imported from the US. Apart from that I have a 2009 Jaguar XKR that I just got registered and is currently having its AC fixed. I also have an old Jag XJR (1998) that used to be my daily driver but it is now parked as it needs a bit of TLC. My 1991 Ferrari 348 and the 1993 LandCruiser are also both parked for the moment waiting for a couple of issues to be sorted. As you probably understand, I like older (for Dubai at least) cars that I can work on myself. I am very interested in getting in touch with others that do the same. Alf

For vibration, while getting the wheel balancing ask the guy to open the tire and clean the sand from inside the tire. If this car has been to offroad and had a tire pop-out then little bit of sand in tire causes similar vibration at intermittent speed.

Great question ask by @Sidshk to prepare, as this road trip is not something we do every month or a year. I am doing this route for first time in my life, but my longest road trip was driving to Salalah for 1400 kms in 12 hours. Around the UAE in one day will be fun for sure with so many cars, but more importantly it's going to be challenging and tiring after first couple of hours. When we try something new and harder, we get great sense of achievement and that's what I am looking for after completing this road trip. Below are the things that I advise everyone should carry, other can add to the list based on their experience: MUST HAVE Fully serviced car - Engine oil, Gear Oil, Tires and AC Replacement tire, with security lug nut Car owners manual Car service history details Stock sound sleep for 8 hours for two days in advance GPS with offline maps (Smartphone / stand alone unit) First aid kit Fire extinguisher Emergency contact numbers Face wipes, deo, sunglasses, sunscreen Cool box with plenty of water and soft drinks Plenty of music CD's / flash drive / BT as radio and internet might not be available Quick bites - snacks, biscuits, energy bar, chewing gums, wafers etc. Mobile phone with car charger or power bank Cameras (photo, videos, dashcam, gopro) OPTIONAL Walkie-Talkie radio Recovery tow rope and shackles Emergency fuel (Jerry can) Emergency tool kit, blades, tapes, flash light etc. Spare Engine Oil, Coolant, Jumper cables Air compressor

Barry, I am not a scientist as well or chemical engineer to decode what exactly blend which company uses. My simple theory goes with my own experience of 15 years of car owning in Dubai. Without naming and shaming any dealer or fuel station oil change they goes jet black and curdled in 5k kms than getting Mobil 1 that stays half shiny and golden-brownish at 5k. There must be some serious science involved behind Mobil 1 oil engineering to reach to that level of quality. Secondly you pay peanuts, you get monkeys in most cases. So why putting 120 dhs oil change than 180 dhs for high quality brand. Thirdly, which is supreme the way car speaks to you with high quality brand is unbeatable: Better throttle response, Quieter engine, lower vibrations, smoother highway ride on and so many more benefits. My logic is if by paying 60 dhs extra per oil change (half of fuel tank cost) I can keep my car happy, then why not.......? I know now lot of people will start jumping up and down now.......! Above ATF advise is 50% based on above oil change theory and remaining 50% is stick to OEM brands as far as possible to be safe than sorry. They know what they are designing BEST for their vehicle engineering.

Yup it should be good, just check what exact spec mention in your owners manual before buying SP-II or III.

Hi @Jeh, good to hear such an educational topic. I used to own a Motorola Moto G some 4 years back and when setting up, it had a Drive Assist which came installed and it would read out the message to you when you were on the move. Ask you if you want to reply, ask you for the text and type it out as you speak and confirm and send the same without having to take your eyes of the road or hand on the steering wheel. Technology is always there to help make things better, it's up to us to use such technology to our advantage.

Very nice trip report Rahim bhai, although it was exploration drive and we didn't get what we were expecting but I thoroughly enjoyed as tasting a different terrain with a blend of forest and desert was nice. Plus exploring stuff was fun: burnt car, mushroom hair cut trees, Swimming pool in desert, 100's of camel farm and sand formation rocks.

No issues man, Its a very cool and fast car but it's very simple to work on. I have worked on many before. The problem is people hear corvette and panic. If you need any help, PM me, I have the software to read the ECU and the experience to work on fixing it.

No problems I will hold my hands up and admit I was wrong but I want to know why. I know I am a good technician but I'm not Jesus and I am open to being educated. I would like to see some properly citated links explaining the differences in ATF oil. When I learned about it when I was selling it (way back long ago, just when D3 came out), I was taught that it was all manufactured to a standard that had to meet the manufacturers standard. Check the service manuals of many cars, it will say ATF D3 standard etc., So what is the REAL differences in the oils when it all meets the same specifications? @Gaurav there is a guy who frequents all the UK forums, Opieoilman is his username. If you could get him on here, it would clear up so many questions when it comes to oil. There seems to be so many on here. I would particularly love him to confirm the 3k, 5k etc oil change scam.

Current : Nissan Pathfinder 2001, V6 (VG33E) Future : My history shows I have downgraded from a 5.7 Hemi V8 to a 3.9 V8 and now on a V6 3.3, so next should be a 4 Cylinder 2.7 Fortuner or Prado. Hehehehehe. Seriously : I would love to go for a Truck next time, either the Ram 1500 twin cab or the Ford F150 FX4.

So it was supposed to be an exploration drive and it was just that in every sense. Although I had planned a slightly different area, but I received a coordinate from @skumar83 just a few hours before the drive and I handed it over to our trusted @Gaurav Bhai to study the area. Since it was all last minute we did not have enough time to recognize the terrain. We all met on time and headed to the coordinate given to us by Sree. As we entered and deflated and after the drivers' briefing we were off in to the unknown after midnight. The terrain seemed more of a forest than a desert and we were greeted by plenty of trees, shrubs and stubs with a lot of farm houses around, one even had a swimming pool. At the start Gaurav Bhai and I had decided that we were going to go on the other side of the road if the terrain was not suitable, it was time to do just that. So we returned to where we had started and headed to the other side which was fenced, so we drove down the road as far as we could and returned to find only 1 break in fence which had some trucks and heavy equipment. This could only mean 1 thing, the terrain was under some kind of construction and it would be unsafe, just to eradicate any doubts Gaurav Bhai had a quick run and came back with a thumbs down. So a short conference took place and it was decided we we would head to a desert which was approximately 20 Kilometers away on Saleem Bhai's experience. This was definitely a desert but as Saleem Bhai had pointed out, there were a lot of pockets and plenty of soft sand around to keep us busy. Asif Bhai had bought a viking rope on the night and it seemed to be working overtime for this drive. We finally settled in some flat terrain to rest, discuss the details and our side of the experiences along with some tea and bites. By this time the Sun had come up and was making things hot and uncomfortable, so we decided to head back after quickly inflating. To sum up this drive all I would like to say is that it was an exploration drive and it was not very pleasant terrain, but our team is the best I have ever experienced and the company of those around kept it interesting and bearable. Thank you to Gaurav Bhai for taking over the lead as I had my vehicle full + 1 as my family decided to come and for the food. Thank you to Asif Bhai for the tea, snacks, extra radio which he has given me for anybody who falls short and inflating a couple of my tires when my compressor coughed up in the heat. Thank you to Sree bhai who with his newly acquired Jeep Cherokee was always ready to help. Thank you to Saleem for once again being there with his Rav4 and for his helpful nature to give me for fuses to replace if the AC tripped the fuse as it would have been very unpleasant with the family without AC.

Duh ! The Xterra like a lot of Japanese Vehicles is/are exclusively manufactured in the US, and the reg card states where the car is manufactured not who owns the company that manufactured it and also reg cards don't mention GCC or Non GCC specs. Armada, Xterra and Sequoia among many others were only manufactured in The Americas. You won't find a Japanese made Xterra and you'll only ever find a made in Thailand Fortuner P.S : And a odometer in Kms is 90% surefire way to check if its GCC specs, although the rare 10% chance its a Canadian import who also use Kms but then all stickers will be in English and French

As much as I was looking forward to this drive, I cannot make it . I have to travel back for some personal reason. Nonetheless, my heart and soul would be there, probably my ghost as well. Will keep an eye on this amazing drive. @Gaurav I could not find a way to decline the calendar event in case that needs to be adjusted. Anyways really sad for missing this one.

my 2 cents there are some cars which are japanese or american but made in other countries like armadas titans of nissan are only made in america but according to the importing countries their specs are bit changed the acuras and some models of lexus are also only made in america and some gmc and other brands are made in korea but are american cars it all boils down on the regulations of country which is importing and through which channels it was imported like the dealer will modify the specs and then bring it and individual imports or private imports will be of specs of their original countries or countries for which it was intended to be driven
