There will not be time to program radios at the departure point. Please make sure that your radio is preprogrammed. It goes without saying (but I will say it anyhow ) that if you don't have a radio, you don't drive. What to expect tomorrow morning: You will be challenged: For some of you this will be only the second time in the sand, so bring your A game - better to be without distractions if possible, because the terrain will be more challenging than you had before. We will move faster: At Absolute Newbie level for your first drive we take things slow and easy. Now the fun starts. expect to be moving a little faster than before. You'll need to keep up with the convoy and watch out for the person behind. You'll practice, practice, practice: Newbie level is about getting the skills needed to move further in your desert aventure, so expect to be crossing a lot of dunes, probably up and over so that you get used to what your car can do. You'll get stuck: It's going to happen, and if it does not you are possibly not trying hard enough. It's also really important to get stuck from time to time. How else do you learn how to get out of those situations. The seniors on the drive will be there to help you when it happens. The landscape we will be crossing tomorrow has nice wide dunes and some technical dunes as well. The wide dunes are great for gaining confidence in driving on sand, the technical are there to help you learn how to cross terrain, how to control your car and how to control yourself. The aim of tomrrows drive is to have fun, learn and if we can make it, drive all the way from South Qudra back into the Qudra lakes. This will depend totally on the convoy performance. That's not a challenge to anyone. What we do at Carnity is a team game, so we make sure first and foremost that what we do is safe, that everyone gets out of the desert (as well as into it) and where we can that we make the event exciting. The job of sweep is to make sure that the convoy is moving and no-one is left behind. The sweep also handles the recoveries through the drive that cannot be managed by the Centre Froward. @Lorenzo Candelpergher will be our Centre Froward. His responsibility is to be the first line when there are refusals and stucks. @Franco Swart will be second lead. The second lead's job is to follow the drive lead (at a distance) and reroute in case there is a need to go a different way. Please post any questions you might have here in the forum. Thank you @topgear. We might be young as a club, but we have over 26 years of experience if you take only @Gaurav bhai and myself. We used our experience to mold this club to a community who cares about each other. When we start doing things right the right people with our mindset started joining in and we are now close to 500 strong. I must praise @Gaurav bhai a lot for his patience to understand the need for a structure and almost single handedly putting it in place. @Srikumar to be among the first to join us and moulded himself to an amazing individual we are all proud of. @Asif Hussain who learned a lot from us, but opened our mind to possibilities we could not have imagined. @Emmanuel for bring his amazing flavour to the community with endless questions. This enabled us to answer questions and realize where we need to plug the gaps. On the way brilliant people like @Frederic, @Ale Vallecchi, @Wrangeld, @Jeepie, @Brette, @sertac, @Shamil, @Desert Dweller, @Foxtrot Oscar, @Vanessa8580 and the likes kept joining in and making this journey absolutely worth it. Surely there are many more names that will get added to this list as we grow at an exceptional rate. DRIVE RSVP IS NOW CLOSED As we will be having a pretty big convoy tomorrow, some requests from my side: - When you deflate, please double-check if you are at 14-15PSI for street tyres, and 12-13PSI if you have A/T tyres. This will help in flotation. - Make sure you all have an offroad flag, programmed radio for Carnity frequencies, pressure gauge, and a shovel. Without these tools you will not be allowed on the drive. - For the Fewbies, please do help in assisting your fellow Newbies where you can. - Please abide by the COVID rules strictly. - Keep 4-5 cars distance between the cars so you can keep your momentum at all times. This used to be my favourite story to tell in pre-Covid times. I'm sure many of you are interested but many are too shy to ask and some can't find the words or think it's inappropriate to question on that. It's not so bad a question and it's all about friends making new friends and passing on the skills we acquired in over a decade of off roading each. Thanks to Dr @Chaitanya D for asking and @Desert Dweller reminiscing those good old pre-Covid days. @Gaurav bhai is my senior and has been in the desert for maybe 14 years if I'm not mistaken. I just completed 12 years in the wilderness. For @Gaurav bhai he caught up with life and some difficult decisions trying to nurture Carnity since 2010. While I continued to learn where he left off. At one point he supported me in my initiatives and events and started coming back to off-road regularly. He hadn't lost what he had learned since we learned things the hard way. @Carnity started up thanks to his Mitsubishi Pajero which he never gave up on. In 2010 if you googled up your car issues we would just see websites from either USA or South Africa or Australia. Another thing was the Pajero never made it to USA and was known as Shogun or Montero in other places. The biggest concern was these other model specs would be built slightly differently not allowing us to understand or work on our own cars. @Carnity became the first website to share information on GCC spec cars, proudly it is the only one to date in the Middle East. Back in late 2016 when I got really interested and started sharing information about my cars and checking regularly for updates and advise for my Nissan Pathfinder R50, I saw some interest in members for off-roading. I asked @Gaurav bhai if we could start an off-road club to which he was not sure. But after several discussions and couple of months of heated arguments we came to an agreement. @Gaurav bhai proposed I post 3 drives at different locations and he would support me. If we had interested members coming out to drive we would form our club or I would never mention it again. Agreement made. Our first official drive was on 27 Jan 2017. @Srikumar was on that fist drive and never look back. This and all 3 drives went full and soon we had enthusiasts and that's how the @Carnity off-road came to existence. Initially it was all about creating awareness about the different aspects of off-roading and passing on the skills and the art to fellow off-roaders. But the only constant thing in life is change. Thanks to @Gaurav bhai who thought we needed to put the structure into words. Although it might seem that I am a man of many words, but putting the technical details to words is what @Gaurav bhai did best. Revising the structure and improving with every drive became our passion. The newly joined off-roaders seeing things from a different angle became our strength. I'm very pleased to be coming close to 500 members in the club and how each one of you have contributed and made the @Carnity off-road club a success story. Each member brings their own flavour with their experience, culture and point of view as we have over 40 nationalities coming out every week to help us grow this common passion for this ever growing sport of off-roading. We have been through many hardships and difficult decisions. But together we are proud to make the decisions best for everyone's well being. One such challenge was Covid19 which we are still all trying to deal with on a daily basis in all aspects of our lives. We at @Carnity made a decision to be the first club to introduce drives with the Covid19 restrictions in place. Our community who understands and stands by our decisions are our strength to continue doing so in the toughest of times. Love our community and love each and everyone of the members striving to wake up at 3 am for drives posted at 5 am. For taking pics and videos and sharing it on @Carnity and their social media channels and making @Carnity popular among family and friends. My sincere thanks to all of you who read it through. I am very surprised that the off-roading club/drives started fairly recently in 2017. With all the structures, team members etc that I see today, I thought the club has been around for much longer. Very impressed with all the hard and good work that you guys did throughout the span of 3 years + and continuing.

@Rahimdad @Gaurav Having been lucky enough to join Carnity before Covid hit @Jeepie and myself have heard this story from you direct. I know I am but one of many to feel so lucky to have found @Carnitybecause, when all said and done this is a club with members who really do care for each other. Driving is what we do. Thanks to you, Carnity is what we are.

Going to desert is always an uncertain act, no matter how hard trip lead tries things can/may go out of hand at times. @Bhaskar If you have something super critical meeting lined up after the drive, it's better not to join. If it's flexible, then you can try your luck.

Hi I'm Hussien, I'm driving ford F150 XLT 6.2L V8 4x4. I have gone for an off-road experience once in fossil rock. And I have front and rear tow points and are they are in good condition. I still don't have the flag, radio, deflator, or compressor. Looking forward to see you all and have a good off road experience. Regards, Hussien

Dear Carnity explorers. Let's get in the "Middle-Earth" frame of mind by giving out the convoy order. @Tbone will start as my Second Lead @Islam Soliman will occupy his (by now) usual place #3 @Rajeevan Vickneswaran will follow at #4 @Nabil Bishara is going to take position #5 @Heisem will drive in #6 @Janarthan will anchor the convoy at Center Forward @Ilya Golubinsky will follow him at #8 @Biju Abdul will line up at #9 @Jeandre Bezuidenhout with jersey #10 @Gregory Perkin will be starting at #11 @marks will be responsible for closing the convoy's lineup. As mentioned in the drive's preview, we will be facing a variety of terrains. After an initial approach from a sand track, we will enter in this little visited area between South Qudra/Solar Park and Faqa. This area contains sabkhas, technical dunes, as well as longer range, but taller and sometimes tight dunes, which form canyons and bowls, that will test the Fewbie Plus skills. We will be driving mostly to the East: the good thing is that reading the dunes will be easier, as the sun's reflection, that "whites out" depths and perspective, will be mostly at our back, but, at times, the sun may be kissing our faces 😅. Eventually, we'll double back toward the West, until we'll find the exit track toward Solar Park, where our drive will end. Upon reaching the meeting and deflation point, please tune into Carnity Channel 2 (446.031). Please keep in mind that the meeting point is along the dirt road, just past the Solar Innovation Center (the "crystal pyramid"), going further in toward the West. Enjoy the end of the week, and see you tomorrow.

It really depends on what you want to do. If you’re planning on going greenlaning or off roading at the weekends, you need a proper 4x4. If you’re just commuting, AWD is perfectly fine. Im from way out in the mountains. I used to run a AWD Subaru Legacy. I wouldn’t have taken it on an off road drive but for the snow and ice, it was brilliant. For every day driving, tyres are more important than AWD or FWD. I used to keep 2 sets of wheels. Winter tyres for winter and summer tyres for summer. Proper winter tyre really do make a difference in snow and ice. It’s like night and day. If you’re going somewhere north where there is more cold weather, I would avoid anything RWD. It’s fun in the wet but in snow and ice you will get stuck. You can get around this by keeping counterweight in the boot to put extra traction. I used to put a couple of bags of sand in the back. It works but it’s a pain in the ass. FWD is a lot better in ice and snow. The extra weight of the engine on the front wheels gives you good grip. If you can keep the momentum going you will seldom get stuck. Anyway, I digress, out of the list of cars you posted, I would go for the Forester. WRX models are available. They handle like an Impreza rally car with the WRX power but with extra space for families or dogs or whatever you are into. Whatever you decide to go for, use winter tyres for winter and summer tyres for summer otherwise you will get stuck.

There are those who listen to experience and there are those who challenge everything. You've always listened keenly and asked questions. But you've let your curiosity taken the better of you. It would be easier to get something which could be used the the desert as a common toy, but you have really worked hard to learn your way with the JGC. Total respect to you for not listening to us and working so hard to make your black stallion truly yours. Nobody else can tame it except for you. Plus you opened up a chance for people to own, understand and use a JGC both on-road and off-road. Jeep might have built the JGC, but you've made it desert worthy. Well done bro.

With the tremendous increase in the number of COVID cases in the UAE, we all have to be responsible while off-roading. Failing to abide by any single precaution at any time during the drive, will result in an immediate ban from Carnity Off-road Club. ZERO TOLERANCE First offender - 1 Month Ban. Second offender - 3 Month Ban. Third offender - lifetime ban and report to authorities. COVID19 PRECAUTIONS 2.0 All Carnity off-road drives will be LIMITED to driving only: No Socializing and gathering allowed at any time. No break for taking photos, breakfast, smoking, etc. No exchanging of off-road or recovery gears. Wear a mask at all times, while outside your vehicle. For passengers restrictions, follow RTA or NCEMA guidelines. All passengers should be inside the car, at all times. Maintain a minimum of 2-meter social distance at all times. Sanitize your hands and recovery gear after use. PS1. If you and your passenger cannot sit inside your vehicle for 3-4 hours please DO NOT JOIN CARNITY DRIVES. PS2. A Member who has RSVP the drive is RESPONSIBLE and LIABLE for their passenger's compliance. PS3. The above precautions apply to everyone irrespective of their vaccination status or schedule. PS4. You can confidentially submit the photo of any offender by sending an email to [email protected]. How to comply Read the drive post before arriving at the meeting point, so that you know your convoy numbering and radio channel. Arrive at the meeting point and switch on your radio to the pre-set frequency of the drive. Stop your vehicle at least 10-20 meters away from each other. Deflate your tires, while wearing a mask, and then go back inside your car. All briefings will be done on the radio now, so pay full attention to a briefing for your own safety. After the briefing, fall in your convoy position just before the drive starts. While driving if you get stuck, announce on the radio and be inside your car at all times. Trip lead and/or support will guide you on the radio for self-recovery or tow-rope recovery. While there is a stuck or a refusal, everyone else supposed to be inside their car at all times. You can only take a bio-break during the drive, by requesting trip lead permission. Once the drive is over exit out to inflate by maintaining 10-20 meters distance from each other. While inflating, only the driver supposed to be out and with the face mask at all times. After the drive, you can talk on the radio for any feedback, suggestions or help you need.

Dear Carnity Members, After 3 years in Dubai and relatively short desert experience, I will be moving to the UK next year. Being bitten by the offroad bug in desert, I think I will be looking for an 4x4 or AWD car there too. I think mostly I will do cross country trips with little bit off the tarmac or overlanding trips at most. Things that I can do with one car. Also I will be living in London therfore, it will be a weekend car. During the week, "Mind the gap" I would be happy if I can get some advices from the people who has an experience on this issue. Perhaps @Wrangeld, @Barry... I don't know what should I look for when purchasing a car in the UK. Are there any musts &mustn't? And what kind of chronical problems do cars get mostly? Insurance, petrol consumption and tax are also a case...I don't want to do a similar mistake like I did with Trailblazer 😕 I did some research and I came up with below options under GBP8000 budget. @Bhaskar as Sweihan is a massive area and we would be deep in the desert, I can't confirm if we would be able to exit out so early.

@Gaurav I am driving a 2012 Mitsubishi Pajero LWB 3.5 L, I Have been offroad a few times as a passenger with carnity, I was a passenger in your fossil rock drive a couple of weeks ago. Loved the experience so decided to try it out hands on I have front and rear tow hooks in good conditions Besides i have a flag, deflator, pressure guage, dual cylinder compressor, a walkie talkie with all the frequencies set All set to go

Hello everyone, My name is Mostafa, its my first time to go off-roading, However; I have done it before as a passenger I drive a 2019 White Prado, 4 door, 6 cylinder. Please go through the Newbie Video Briefing which will prepare you for your first drive with us: MUST WATCH: NEWBIE VIDEO BRIEFING With regards to offroad gear, please bring a tyre deflator and pressure gauge (readily available in any tire shop, Enoc, Adnoc, Emarat, Ace Hardware or Speedex). Other items like a shovel, offroad flag, and radio will become mandatory from a second drive onwards (if you have them already plz do bring it along).

Hello everyone, This will be my first off road experience. I drive an FJ Cruiser with front and back tow points, a flag pole and a built-in air compressor. I did buy the radio, and now hopefully I can program the frequencies before tomorrow's ride. Looking forward to the drive!

Hi Guys! My name is Gaurav Soni, I drive a 2014 3.8 pajero LWB. Have essential like compressor, kinetic strap, treds. The car is a stock with standards tow points (2) in front and back. I do not have a radio yet! I am still trying to get used How the messagings works. Do we have carnity app or separate WhatsApp group for each drive?

We are doing our best and hopeful we will find spaces for some (if not all) of you on Friday. Normally, after the drive reminder is sent we find that a few people remember they have another commitment, or soem people simply cannot make it. Please continue to stay on standby as things change at the last minute. Thank you @Rahimdad for this wonderful thread and I felt proud while reading the words you wrote about how the story begun exactly the same fire of passion growing with each single drive I have done so far. I have seen Liwa dunes Up to Ghaiathi in the heart of the empty quarter when I was at age of 10 or younger when I my dad used to take us by his land cruiser ( his nature of work let him drive ) ... I realize Carnity has relighted the fire of passion of the desert in me and more than that all the help and support from the very beginning from @Gaurav and off course my colleague and friend @Chaitanya D . at times of crises ( Covid 19 ) we stand still at home, at work , and yet behind the steering wheels Navigating the desert that we all love , with all the precautions on ! cheers 🚙❤️🌷

This is the only club started by 2 friends. But all like minded friends joined in making the journey more pleasant for all who want to continue as part of this community.
