Using a slightly thicker wooden plank below Generally in a pop out situation the height is lowered further than what you calculate on tarmac or firm ground.

The best jacking point for any vehicle is by lifting the lower control arm. If you recollect when we had the popout on the Shuwaib Drive, we used a JZX jack and lifted your car from the lower control arm. The space from the ground to the lower control arm only increases with bigger tyre size. So if you go from a stock 31 inch tyre to 33 inch tyre, this space actually increases by half the difference in diameter change, which in this case is 0.5 x 2 inch = 1 inch. Also the lower control arm is positioned below the centre line of the tyre. Hope this answers your query.

Hey everyone, I am looking forward towards purchasing a floor jack for my vehicle as a bottle jack is really not recommended in sand. I read some previous threads and concluded that a Low-Profile Jack from JZX or YATO is the best option, as they are reliable and can easily be tucked under a vehicle without any digging required. After doing some research on the product, I found out that the Max height of a Low-Profile Jack is 14 inches (JZX)(Extenders are Not in Stock) (A standard jack has Max height of 19"). Now my question is that, is it suitable for a lifted car?. I drive a Jeep Wrangler that has a 2.5" Lift Kit with 33" tires, so it's a bit higher than a stock wrangler. So, as per my measurements, the center of my vehicle is 16.5" above a flat surface, and another contact point for the jack would be my front axle's truss reinforcement, as it is flat and sturdy, which is 12" above a flat surface. Meaning that I would only get a 2" lift if I were to lift the front. The jack board may add a inch or two but would it be enough(especially when lifting the back side)?. As per my knowledge, I have concluded that a standard jack is more practical for lifted cars compared to a Low-Profile one. Now, @Frederic, @Gaurav, @Rahimdad, @Srikumar, what would be your take on this?

My beloved Desertnauts, in preparation for tomorrow's drive, just a few more info. First remember that this will be a "premiere" drive, with the possibility of some re-routing, and some change of course along the itinerary. In particular, the greatest uncertainty will be the amount of vegetation in the area: not too dense, but made of small trees and bushes, most often not too close together to make the drive too complex, but located on the slopes and even close to the ridges, so that we may have to exit the dunes prematurely, to find another way across, or around. The dunes' ridges, also, tend to be very "wavy" rather than straight, which will require expert handling of the car while riding them, with the ability to steer on the ridges, and control the momentum, at all times. Concentration and quickness in reacting will be required to overcome both of these obstacles. Trip report Writing this after being energized by a fab start to the weekend as planned with some thrill of a night drive. We drove from Love lakes to Murqab practicing technical dunes, some nice steep sideys, ridge rides and criss crossings. It was a nice mix of experienced IM drivers at the back and some extremely eager fewbie at the front who learnt and improvised as we drove along. @N@ved was excellent as 2nd lead. Very responsive and did some minor rerouting to perfection. Thank you so much. @Ranjan Das did well and got better as we drove more towards Murqab. Some fishtailing and momentum issues, but I suppose you will only get better as you did towards the end. @Mikhail Lukichev was driving very well in 4th position. Quickly learning the minor adjustments needed , it was great to see that you felt the tire deflated while driving which was fantastic as you could avoid a pop out (which would most likely happen on a deflated tire) with your presence of mind. @Anvar Sadath Bekal was a bit late addition to the drive, but I suppose enjoyed the drive as much as we all did. Well done @Ashok chaturvedi had no issues managing his new desert toy. Great to see your enthusiasm and how you have been driving well off late. @Shaaz Sha hardly heard on the radio. I wonder now you have got hold of managing the X after shifting from an amazing wrangler. @MUHAMMAD Kashif RAZZAQ with his son as copassenger managed very wel. Great to have this duo , something similar to mine except that my son sits in the back seat.🤣 @GauravSoni did well in the back. To add to what @Srikumar and Dr @Chaitanya D have said, after a bit of a lift you can always dig under the tire. Also if you can't find a thicker plank you can use 2 planks of wood.

So that car was a bust. Lots of little cosmetic issues and took very long to engage the 4x4 gears and diff-lock compared to other vehicles I tested. So I left it. Viewed and tested a few cars. One thing is clear. "Perfect inside and out" is almost never perfect inside and out and not one of the vehicles with "full service history" actually had a complete service record, except the one I bought. I got my Batmobile. 😅 2015 model with 30000 km. Full service record on schedule. Pretty much perfect inside and out. Very happy and thankful for everyone's advice here. It really helped.

I said it first so back off 😁 Seriously now, allocating a position in the convoy depends on a number of factors, and having a GoOro is definitely not one of them 😉. Especially the sweep (last car in the convoy) which needs to be a bit more experienced driver as he/she has several duties such as keeping an eye on the whole convoy and supervising recoveries of the second half of the convoy after the CF position (Center Forward). What I mean by this is that it is not always possible to accommodate such requests for the aforementioned reasons. I hope you understand what I’m trying to say.

Yes @Foxtrot Oscarthese two guys were next to me during inflating, and they asked me again about the group, and they were asking about my compressor and the way I am inflating, and they were impressed with @Ahab Shamaa car arrangements. We will have slopes, ridges, bowls, trees, you name it, Faqa has it. Now the plan is to loop around and come back the other side of Faqa which is free of tracks and has almost virgin dunes. FJs don’t actually get stuck; they just park themselves for a short while 🤣 love it! I still think we should have gatecrashed that BBQ, the smell of charcoal burning in the night air is one of life's simple pleasures. Maybe next week I'll do a night drive again I thoroughly enjoy it too

Drive Report Tuesdays are all about breaking the hump of the working week by getting out into the sand and letting off some steam. We covered just under 69km in 4.5 hours We had a very experienced convoy for a Fewbie Level drive and all that expertise didn’t go to waste. I had decided it was time to pass the baton of responsibility to our Fewbie driver who is very keen to learn the ropes. Under the instruction of @Craig Finlayson and my watchful eye @Shehab Alawadhi was ready to get his gear out. Thankfully as we were negotiating the technical patch the opportunity presented itself as @Thomas Varghese got stuck. @Shehab Alawadhihandled the recovery very well. We headed out of the technical patch and into the wide-open long-range dunes we had lots of opportunity to side slope and cross some ridges. This didn’t present anyone with any issues and the fewbies at the front of the convoy were all handling their vehicles very well. I think we were about 1 hour into the drive when @Thomas Varghese had some severe overheating issues. We brought the temperature of the car down by spraying cold water on the transmission cooler and turning the heating on full blast to take the heat out of the engine. When the digital reader was at 92o it was safe to start moving the car again however for Thomas that was the end of the desert drive. The car had shot up to 110o by the time we reached the track. I do hope the repair is economical Thomas, , its such a shame you had overheating issues as you were having a good drive No sooner had we started motoring again when @GauravSoni car started to have some issues, well an unfamiliar sound, It was better to exit the car then and there as opposed to risking damage so off we headed back to the track. We headed back into the long range dunes, as we did so we were lucky enough to see the local training their falcons, I couldn’t hide my excitement when I saw the drone with ‘prey’ attached and the young bird swoop in to grab it with its mighty talons. What a treat that was! Once more to the fore we headed back in again and had a good time continuing with or side sloping and getting atop some ridges. I was keeping a watchful eye on our two remaining Fewbies and both were coping admirably. Then a call came for me to add some spice. I checked with the convoy and it was agreed everyone wanted to get into it more. Huzzah! I’m always up for that! I upped the pace as we headed nearer to Solar Park and we had some great dunes to tackle en route to the Sabka With light fading and being nowhere near our proposed end point I asked the convoy what they wanted to do and if they were up for a little night driving, My question was met with a resounding yes, @Ashok chaturvedi wanted to flash his new lights and @Ahab Shamaa lit up the skies with his trillion luminer set up. We slowed the pace but still tackled some good dunes. Night drives are thrilling without the need for speed ! As I made my way into another dune I caught sight of a cluster of rocks, it was unfortunate that I had just asked everyone to stay close as in the very same breath I asked for no one to follow, it was too late for @Veedooshee and @Lawrence_Chehimi. and it led to @Veedooshee being stuck on the side. I tried digging but the sand was so soft and deep that it became a thankless task. Given the angle and the precarious positioning of the rocks I asked Shehab to step aside and allow @Craig Finlayson to recover @Veedoosheewith the rope, three gentle tugs and she was out . That was the signal to end our night adventure. @Lawrence_Chehimi you handle your car very well, I don’t recall you having any refusals, you had great control for the ridge riding and crossover. You coped extremely well when I raised the level on what was only your 2nd fewbie drive Likewise @Shehab Alawadhi, you too had a great drive and I was pleased to see you learning how to recover, , I was delighted to be able to give you the learning opportunity and to see you develop as a driver since our first drive together back in Faqa. I know some of the tight dunes can be difficult, but you handle them well for the most part and you are adding self-recovery to your repertoire. Every drive is a learning opportunity and it doesn’t matter if you are a newbie, fewbie , IM , advanced or expert. Every time we head into the sand we learn. @Melenanyand @Hisham Masaad- I could heat Islam providing help when you had some refusals. I know its tough at the back of a convoy as the sand gets churned. Use stucks and refusals as learning opportunities to develop your self-recovery skills. You will get a better understanding of your car and how it handles in various situations we find yourself in with the sand if you try to get out on your own. ‘Tell me and I forget; Teach me and I may remember; Involve me and I learn.’ Benjamin Franklin. @Ahab Shamaa, it was great to drive with you again, Thanks for keeping an eye on the cars in front and highlighting fishtailing. That's a sweet deal for 30k kms in 6 years. Just hope there is no long gap of a year or two or three parked inside, as that's not good for any car. If 30k reasonably spread across 6 years then its perfect.

@Foxtrot Oscar I am leaving this drive. This would have been my first drive after one and half months of hiatus, but the jeep was due for regular service and I wouldn't get it back by Saturday. I gave the car for service today, the regular service could have been done by today but I reported a couple of error messages that I get while driving in the desert (ESC Service Required - often and 4WD service required - once). They said they will do the inspection of these error messages only by Saturday.

Excellent report Angela @Foxtrot Oscar as always which is surely not less than the drive it self , while reading I imagined how the 🦅chasing the prey anchored to the drone and yet the convoy upping along your note👌 and for this one 👇 I guess you have always involved us into something worth learning , at least for me , in any if your drives regardless of drive level . Well done to you as a lead and to all the desert loving drivers . hopefully see you on Friday at Faqa cheers all 🙏

@Foxtrot Oscar some rumours are there there were two mysterious outsiders who came to watch Vidooshi retrieval.. one was caught on my camera in red jeep... anyone else noticed.

@Foxtrot Oscar many thanks for the last Tuesday drive it was planned to be short afternoon drive but turned out to afternoon to night time drive as everyone consented to the idea of extending the drive time. We have two early exits @Thomas Varghese had an engine heat up and @Gaurav Soni detected some vibration sound from the power steering and both for precautionary reason decided to exit the drive. I hope they did not have much of damage and can resume the drives ASAP. The desert becomes very scenic with the sunset and pleasant cool winds we saw very few Gazelles but no other animal life. This area to me is a perfect picnic spot and must be visited for it there some chatter between us on having a BBQ one night there (surely post Covid). Near the end we had one bad stuck and equally tough retrieval. Thanks @Ahab Shamaa mighty lights and with other we illuminated the area. @Islam Solimanas our consistent sweep and the rest drivers contributed as usual to the success of the drive under lead of our own superwoman. 60039807-64bb-474c-a6ff-8920c0094f48.MP4-1.mp4

I'll probably be the last car so do not worry re photos and videos of the drive. I enjoy documenting it and offering drivers the chance to see their cars in action 😉 If @Foxtrot Oscar lends me her GoPro again (which I'll never give back 😝), then I can set it up as well.
