Post Drive Report We more or less delivered on the promise today. There was a lot of travelling time and even thought we did have refusals and stucks, considering we were a convoy of 16 cars we still managed to cover the ground from Murquab to Last Exit (OK - the bit to Last Exit was more sand driving training than excitement) and the dunes in between. The start of the drive was punctuated by a few refusals that took time, but we still managed to swoop and swerve all the way to the Baja highway. By the number of people that had to take a bio break by that time, I can only assume that our driving time was long enough because otherwise most would have taken the chance during a recovery. Our Baja highway moment was also less extreme than I had wanted, but it's essential to respect the rules of the desert. You cannot leave someone in trouble alone in the Desert. Escorting the bike out of the highway slowed us down. All of you know now what awaits when you get the chance to follow the same route again. Once off the highway, I was getting conscious of the time, so our investigation of the wide and wonderful dunes to the West of Solar Park was cut a bit shorter than I wanted originally. It's an area to which I am going to return as soon as possible because the dunes there are so, so tempting. And then, into Last Exit. By the time we turned West again to get into Qudra proper, drivers and cars were getting tired because of the punishing heat and I decided to take the easier exit from the dunes and then drive along the Hamari Well Road so we could at least finish at Last Exit. Just so you know, I chose that sand track because the 4 - 5km of sand through which we drive is excellent training for driving in soft sand elsewhere - an exercise that is worthwhile because it does not look like it. Arriving at Last Exit we saw the Fewbie convoy and inflated. Sorry if I did not say goodbye to everyone individually. This was a true Newbie drive. For anyone above Newbie, today should have been relaxing; a chance to practice some skills and an opportunity to enjoy being in the sand without any pressure. Thanks to the IM drivers @Shehab Alawadhi @Mario Cornejo and @Arman who helped out throughout the drive. You don't realize how reassuring it can be for the lead and support to have your input and, as it turned out, the invaluable personal experience of having started his career in a Ford meant that @MUHAMMAD Kashif RAZZAQ was able to really help with the problems that were faced in that car. Please also keep in mind that for newbies, seeing IM drivers on their drives is inspirational and aspirational. To my other support, @Veedooshee in CF I felt a little guilty about sending you out into the sun with your shovel and rope, but you were outstanding in that role and @Islam Soliman: the rank says 'Expert' and that's a pretty accurate description. I'm not going to call out any other drivers specifically, because I think that everyone did well in the vehicle that they brought to the drive ... and some are more suited to this hobby than others. Very important and valid question @Jerry Han. Quick answer: YES, but it depends on how well you can talk, communicate and push it. Long Answer: Technically all off-road worthy cars (Incl. your Pajero) should honor warranty if something stops working while off-roading within the warranty period. This excludes the accidents, for which you need to have an off-road insurance (separate topic). But often times, many dealers service advisors try (first attempt) to scare customers by saying oh you took it to the desert.....! These service advisors are probably trained to scare customers like that, so that customers sub-consciously thinks that desert related failures aren't covered in the warranty. At this time, you need to stand strong and say, please show me in writing the warranty clause where it says that certain failure will not be covered if I take my car to the desert. Success rate: 50% Last trump card: If they still dishonor the warranty with all reasonable talks and deny all arguments. Ask them to provide this same excuse in writing, so that you can take this matter to consumer right and plus Mitsubishi Japan. Success rate: over 90%. In last 10% scenario you genuinely can't do anything OR parent company (Mitsubishi Japan) covers that failure in a goodwill warranty even if its not covered for other customers - remote but possible chance. Example: My friend Nissan patrol failed a differential twice, they changed it in warranty and dishonor for the third time as my friend was running bigger tires. He wrote to Nissan Japan and they offered a goodwill warranty but made it clear that this is the last time we are replacing the differential due to use of bigger tires.

Drive Report The air was cool, the night sky was clear, and the opportunity to drive with the windows down at this time of year was very welcome. We started off on the track, as I didn’t want to disturb residents with a 12 strong convoy who lit up the night sky with an array of off-road lights. We reached the sand and started off gently, finding both our night vision and desert wheels as we meandered through Murquab’s dunes. It was a nice gentle way to become acclimatised. At one point we came across so many gazelles , more than I have ever seen, it was a beautiful sight. As the drive progressed so did the level and we had the opportunity to side slope and cross over some dunes. We had one or two refusals as we did so , but nothing major. We played around the areas some more and then at the top of the dune just before the sabka we decided to turn off the engines, and lights to gaze at the night stars stretching out before us. It truly was wonderful. We took the SZR through the small technical patch that led us to the north of Solar Park. Here we found some lovely low-level dunes that allowed us to get on top and do a little ridge riding and crossing. The technical challenge increased ever so slightly as some tight maneuvers were executed with the convoy coping admirably. As the dunes increased in size, we continued to side slope and cross them. Again, we had a couple of refusals and I think just one crest. That said, the convoy was doing exceptionally well considering, for many , this was their first night drive. As the clock struck midnight and with everyone driving well we had a choice to make, keep going or know when we’ve had enough of a good thing. I decided that , as always with these things, one final push may have been a push too far. We made our way out of the dunes and headed across the Sabka to the tracks and finally the tarmac. It was a nice , chilled , fun drive and that was made possible by the convoy. @Chris Meir , @Nithin Vaidir and @Richard Franks you all coped really well with some technical aspects, with just a couple of refusals and I think one stuck, well done. Likewise the guys further back, @Ehab @luis mantecon, @Anand Nataraj and @Danish Mohammad just a couple of easy refusals nothing major. I might have said yalla, did I say yalla? Haha I pushed you, I know I did, thank you , you really did cope admirably. Many thanks to my support team, @Pacific at 2nd lead who did a great job, @GauravSoni as my CF who was always on hand to assist with refusals and stucks. Likewise @Abdul Rahman AKhad the pleasure of helping GS get unstuck , well done and of course @Tbonefor assisting the convoy at the back and keeping us all moving. Great work guys. @Yousef Alimadadi what a super ride you led today! The track you planned has made me appreciate Quadra so much more! I didn’t know it could be that much fun! You really did give us a full 7 course meal: technical, ridge riding, fast paced sidies, ropes, shovel, a pop out and the rare ‘push’ down the dune technique Great lead and super support from @Frederic and @Janarthan (I truly appreciate the knowledge you both shared during the recoveries). Special mention to @Alain Canivet-Abikhalil who was superb as SL!! super pics in the gallery !! @Wrangeld, thank you for hosting us all in today's drive form Murquab to Last Exit. It was a pleasure to drive with everyone in the convoy. We had a fluid trip, thanks to a combination of multiple factors, as you point out everyone did well and the incredible support of CF @Veedooshee and Sweep @Islam Soliman, both assisting recoveries and ensuring the long convoy kept moving ahead. Also a big thank you for providing advice and sharing knowledge with everyone. I could notice that the radio went silent in various occasions, which I am sure is because everyone was focused as well as enjoying the drive and scenery around us. Kudos to @Shehab Alawadhi in the 2nd lead position, and also to @MUHAMMAD Kashif RAZZAQ and @Arman who were there to help as and when required. Until we meet next time, stay safe, drive safe. DRIVE REPORT Dear Desert Wanderers, It doesn't happen very often to see an Intermediate Drive where all or almost all participants, including Lead and Seniors, get stuck at least once, but if it happens in an Intermediate "Technical Challenge", then it means the drive was up to its title. Al Bataeh area, the most recent addition to @Carnity drive locations, has its own unique character: a totally virgin terrain, where you don't get to see any other convoy and any tracks whatsoever, offering wonderful views across very irregular dunes, with occasional long ridges and recurring high dunes of complex shapes, often terraced at multiple levels, it is at the same time, an amazing place to put the skills of intermediate drivers to the test. Today's drive was intended and indeed proved to be a super technical one. With slip faces oriented in every possible direction and dune geometries constantly varying, there was no chance for any driver to predict what was coming next. Sudden pockets or soft sand patches, very tight maneuvering spaces, steep slopes and multiple passages at higher elevation, made driving in Al Bataeh an extremely difficult exercise. We made our way into the sand at 5:18am and gained a few minutes by doing a radio brief while already on the move. After less than 5 mins into the drive, in a fairly flat area, we had already counted two refusals before sunrise.. I must say I was a bit worried by this start, until I got myself crested 10 mins later, which required some serious shoveling to get me out: it was going to be stucks day! As we moved north east, with the sun most of the time in front of us, we started driving though the characteristic Al Bataeh dunes. As this was meant to be a Technical Challenge Drive, I didn't spare any opportunity to make it a truly challenging drive. Stucks and refusals therefore abounded, but they were mostly resolved with self recoveries except for very few extreme situations. The convoy struggled as it was meant to be, but I believe everyone enjoyed this low paced super-technical drive where you couldn't let go for one second or you'd find yourself crested, stuck in a nasty pocket, digging in a soft sand patch or heading straight into a bush bigger than your car. @Goutam was a very good 2nd lead, generally very careful and responsive to my instructions, even though occasionally a bit too close, which didn't give me the time to advise on the required corrections to my lines. Stuck in a few occasions, he always managed to get out by himself, for the rest he was just perfect! He even tugged me out the 2nd time I got royally crested! @Rizwanm2 followed, doing overall very well, especially considering that, compared with the rest of the convoy, his Intermediate experience was much more limited. A few stucks and refusals were all self recovered and well managed. The ability to negotiate steep climbs with a bit more momentum will come with time and practice. @Thomas Varghese was in his ideal terrain today. His vast off-road driving experience was in full display: skillful and swift in manouvering across those challenging dunes, it was a pleasure to see his XTerra climbing succesfully most of the times. As for everyone else, not all attempts were perfect and a few refusals and stucks were collected also by Thomas, whose excitement for the drive was, however, a great reward for me. @Jeepie was again on the sand after some time off due to some repairs to her car. I was really pleased to have her on the drive, as I was really curious to hear her opinion about Al Bataeh area, which she first explored today. When she shouted on the radio "Beautiful!" I knew she was really enjoying it (maybe a bit less when she had her close encounter with a bush..) @varunmehndiratta was tailing Marjan with great precision. He looked comfortable at all times during the drive and I belive he was the only one today who didn't get stuck. The moment of highest stress was probably when, despite seeing us on the other side at the meeting point next to the roundabout, instead of crossing the road, he drove all the way to the Military Base and came back 15 mins later.. But with for tires being deflated simultaneously by the rest of the team, he was ready in no time. @GauravSoni seemed to have made it the objective of the day to really find out his limits, as he got stuck a few times (requiring to be winched from a nasty pocket, which I would call the stuck of the day) and got both engine and transmission overheating after a demanding self recovery... Not sure if he found his limits, but for sure he got some serious fun: when I approached him, he was smiling from ear to ear, saying this was one of his best drives ever.. @Rob H was in Al Bataeh with me last week and I am very curious to read what he has to say after this double adventure. For sure, managing his beast in such tight spaces, with so little gas and at so low speed was a whole new experience. It seems today he was way more confident than last week with these driving conditions: as far as I recall he was stuck only once, when I had to winch him down from a crest. Well done! @Abu Muhammad was quite right when he said today's supersoft and tricky sand reminded him of our drive in Liwa last year. What was way different was the driver, as Abu has become very experienced with his beast, even in tight and technical terrains like today's. His final pop-out, 200m from the exit point, I'm sure was just the result of a moment of distraction when the drive felt almost over. What shocked me was how much air can be swallowed by those giant tires... The compressor pumped forever until the tire popped! Last but not least at all was @Tero Vallas, a quiet but almost unstoppable off-roader, driving seamlessly his car, the most civilized in the convoy. I felt he particularly enjoyed beeing in sweeping position today, especially when we reached the high grounds during the second stint: the view from there was magnificent as Sweep Tero had the privilege to slow down as he wished to enjoy it a bit more. I recall only one crested stuck, at the very end: again a moment of distraction after 4h of outstanding driving in churned up and super soft sands. Today we were able to complete the intended route to Korfakkhan Road. We would have made it to the exit point on time if we hadn't lined up 2 stucks (to be winched) and 1 pop-out 500m away from the exit point. We drove for 4h 45', of which 1h 18' stopped and 3h 25' moving. Our average moving speed was 13.8km/h, very low for an Intermediate Drive, which tells a lot about the technical difficulty of the day. We covered 47.4km, with an ascent of +188/-182 m. Too bad we ended the drive a bit dispersed, as some of us left and some others went back to help fix Abu Muhammad's pop-out. I look forward to reading in this thread the comments that I couldn't exchange live while inflating. In order to not disappoint those on the wait list we have decided to create two convoys , @Islam Solimanwill lead one, and I the other. As such we are able to increase the RSVP to 20 . Indeed it was a super Drive that didn’t feel like an absolute newbie drive in term of pace progressively and smoothly increasing during the trip due to the fact of having excellent few participants whom they responded positively along the ride despite the differences in previous off road experience. Truly I enjoyed watching them from the back how they were following the tracks of the second lead upon instructions from the trip lead and keeping the appropriate distance from one another in most of the times. I was really impressed. As part of the game definitely we had few refusals / stuck and an awesome crest which all self recovered with no rope was needed. @Glenn Waters you were our flawless second lead today.clear in communication and appropriately distant from the lead . Well done 👍 @Super Safari Girl giving the fact that it’s your first trip in sand you drove very good and you managed to self recover ,despite some difficulty ,with some precious instructions from our lead . Wish you best of luck. @Mohamed Samacoyou gave us the spice of the day when you managed to get you self crested. Other than that you drove toward perfection at this level keep it up well done 👍 I believe every one did more than great and always remember to keep your momentum and gravity by your side and NEVER against it and you will glide smoothly. Great drive today thank you @Vanessa8580and @Srikumaryou co-led us to a fun. challenging and exciting fewbie drive. Lots of stucks and refusals, lots of laughs and a lot of air! A beautiful if slightly foggy 25 degree 5 am morning quickly escalated to a 42 degree 10 am so I am happy we didn't have to do any digging... Thanks also to @Luca Palanca Falsini, @Ruan van den Heeverand @Xavier Treasurerfor stepping up into the administrative roles at short notice. Nice to see the rope being put to good use *cough. Special mention for @Zed whose monster hydrocarbon smashing luxury barge smashed the path flat for me whilst spewing oxides of nitrogen right and left. Was fun to watch.

Thanks Dr. @Chaitanya Dfor the beautiful flawless cool drive and @naved and @Nivin for the support. Started on time, starting with tight technical dune, then followed by long dunes it was a great drive, fortunately weather was also pleasant and there were hardly few refusals self recovered. It was pleasure following your track and in-fact you have raised the newbie drive by a notch and entire convoy responded and drove well. Love your night drives. Guys really enjoyed that drive, especially the mid section where the pace increased, I echo that I have a new found appreciation of Qudra now! @Yousef Alimadadi Chapeau ! as we say in French I agree with @Niki the track you took did show us another facette of Al Qudra dunes and you managed to take us through a variety of challenges and techniques. I really enjoyed being your SL and glad I could help on different occasions. @Frederic @Janarthan thank you for your support and the knowledge. And overall it was beautiful to see everyone riding in the convoy while we were looping around the big dunes ! See you all very soon.

hello guys and good day ahead . it was yet another wonderful day offroading and we all showed up on time. after deflating started off at around 5.40. it was an adventurous newbie drive and was a drive for all of us to evaluate ourselves as newbies , fewbie and above..🤪 . The sand being very soft, it was a real task to manuver and all the drivers did exceptionally well. None of the convoy members had any major issues handling it. More over all the drivers did a great job to avoid any major stucks or issues like pop outs. we had our initial stuck and recovery just few meters away from the pebble track and it was there we faced an issue with the gear of wrangler and had to exit him out. after a few minutes break we started off again and it was this part of the drive where our ability as offroaders were put to a test. 😃. The terrain was more than enough to give us the challenges. we had to push through some very technical areas and super soft patches, some sideys to boost up the adrenaline levels and two bowls in which one was interrupted by a flock of camels and a part of the convoy had to step back from attempting it ☹️. losing quite some time in refusals, stucks and recoveries and as the temperature was rising, we had to head out to the exit point at around 9.50, a little more than the mentioned time. Thank you guys for being a part of this drive and for some morning workout for me and @Kailas🤪🤪. Thank you @Brette for the drive and giving me an opportunity to be a part of your managing team. @Ammar Naji, perfectly executed second lead and did well in managing his full size SUV, good work buddy👍👍. @Dwain Fernandes , did amazing with his pajero and didn't hear much from you in the radio. well done 👍 . @FARAZ MOHAMMED. as informed by yourself, it was your second drive and had some issues today, but you did a great job buddy. it was really challenging and stucks and refusals are an inevitable part of this sport. as we all know experiences makes us perfect. well done and keep up the spirit bro👍👍👏👏. @AbuNar it was unfortunate that you had to exit out just minutes after we entered the desert and hope to see you and your wrangler back in action soon☹️. @Jamil Abou Assali very well done buddy. you were just conquering what ever obstacles came on your way and enjoying the " Penta star" performances. cool👍👏👏👏. @Saddaquat Tanvir with one of the powerful and big machine in the convoy, did amazing today. had a couple of refusals, which were mostly out of trying to protect your front bumper skirting . Did well and keep it up man 👏👏. @Alfred Alinazar did a clean drive today and didn't face much of issues even in completely churned up sand. very good buddy👍. @Tareck with his Y62, you were amazing and dealt with the challenges successfully.. keep going buddy👍. @Anoop Nair with his wrangler performed really well and I believe you were all charged today to take up any level 👏👏. keep up the spirit @Kailas thank you for sweeping us to the safety and special mention for the support tips and helps in recoveries. @Lorenzo Candelpergher👌. Nothing more to say about the drive. SUPERB. Don't even have the energy to convert the pictures taken and post. Will do it later. Started the drive with a splendorous display of the sky getting painted red by the sunrise. What a view to start a drive. Only 1 suggestion - please make next drives 1 more hour early so that we can exit before the sun starts to blast us with his enormous energy. Will definitely join such kinds of technical drives as I enjoyed to the maximum.

So, I double checked just now and I stand corrected as in the Patrol SS there is no indicator when 4Lo is engaged, however when you shift to 4Lo the VDC light turns on, this tells you the car is in 4Lo. When you shift back to 4H, the VDC light goes off. Just in case it helps: for off-road driving is advisable to disable VDC, as well as ABS and Air Bags (SRS). Hope this helps!
