Hello. MERRY CHRISTMAS and a HAPPY NEW YEAR in advance to every one. Thanks to every one for signing up , showing up on time and for an unforgettable day in the sand. The day started off with a drama as i saw @Thomas Varghese at the meeting point trying to fix a check engine light of his car and he doubted it might cause some problems during the drive. He was planning to quit the drive... but after a few minutes he sorted out the issue and then it was my turn when my 4X4 display turned off. We tried resetting the system removing the battery a few times and luckily it was done . After the radio check and briefing we started off the drive and i believe we had complete radio silence for the first half an hour or so. Our convoy was strong enough to take up all the challenges on our way. What a drive Guys... You were all amazing and it was a pleasure to go off roading with you guys. .Well done😑.👏👏 We had our share of side slopping, high climbs and relatively sharp drops at the Mahafiz to Faya track which i believe every one where entertained . From Faya to Big red we had super technical track where we had patches of totally track free and virgin dunes to exercise through and finally from Big red to Badayer it was mostly ridge riding and criss crossings.. I believe it was a perfect blend of all the terrains for a fewbie plus drive. Towards our way from Big red to Badayer @imranaasghar81 passenger had some motion sickness and was forced to exit at 2nd December with out making it to our destination. Hope every thing is ok and fine with them. Thanks to @Ranjan Das and @Russ for the great support. You guys did a great job in keeping the convoy moving and for the recoveries and assistance. All the refusals and stucks where dealt in minimum time which helped us to reach our destination on time. well done guys and thank you once again. @Aisha S. thank you for being a wonderful 2nd lead. You managed to reroute when ever needed . Did a great job buddy. keep it up @Charbel Fantastic buddy. You were all set for the drive and didn't have any issues through out the drive. It was nice to see you moving effortlessly and making the most out of your X. @Tareck , @munkybizness , The NISSAN beasts ..You guys where amazing and was a treat to watch a Y61 and Y62 attempting all the sideys and climbs. You guys managed the technical areas with out much issues. Good work guys. @Gilbert Khalil , @Chris Wing and @imranaasghar81.. The FJ boys in the convoy did an amazing job. You guys never had any issues and it was total radio silence from you guys.. It was nice to see you guys enjoying the drive with your off road machines. @Amir Amiri. Did a great job buddy and it was nice to see your satisfied smiling face at the end. @Thomas Varghese..Thank you for all those great pics and cant expect any thing less than this from the most experienced driver in the convoy. Post Clean Up Drive A MASSIVE thanks to everyone in the clean up crew this morning. Loads of bin bags full, chairs, clothing, bottles cans all the detritus of multiple people abusing the desert before us. In addition, a fun newbie (plus) drive from Bab Al Shams to Last Exit. A great way to spend early Xmas day morning - doing something we love and treating a place we love with care and love. This is what having a 4x4 loving community is about in my opinion - and everyone that came along was totally committed to both. This is something we will do again, and again - because we owe it to the desert that gives us so much. I am looking forward to the photos in the album showing just what we achieved. Today’s event was a great initiative @Wrangeldand it was my honor to support and contribute my small part in the whole affair. Also special thanks to the support crew @Dodi Syahdar@Alex Raptor who showed up with ample space in their trunk to ferry those rubbish from the desert to where they belong, the disposal bin. It wasn't all easy going and we did quite a bit of technical dunes. The start was relatively easy and allowed me to see how you were coping with side slopes criss-cross and ridge riding. It is fair to say I was impressed and wanted to challenge you a little with some technical. I must admit we did a bit more of that than planned, but you were all doing so well that I felt we could push it a little bit more. After the first stuck we started struggling but we made it out to have plenty of time left to play a bit more in the wider and higher dunes towards Solar Park. Made some of you work hard and sweat a little😜 Thank you @Imteeaz for keeping the rest of the convoy safe when I got in trouble. Thanks @Lawrence_Chehimi and @Alain Canivet-Abikhalil for dealing with the stucks and refusals. All in all a very diverse drive with a little bit of everything that hopefully catered for everyone. I said this before and I’ll say it again, I will always sign up for drives with you @Shaaz Sha Your drives always push my limits and challenge me and that’s what I enjoy the most! You always give me things to work on. I told you that I’m not confident with ridge-riding and you spent the entirety of the second-half of the drive doing that until for the first time since I started driving in the desert, I got stuck and tugged TWICE! It did not feel like a fewbie plus drive at all and that was thrilling and scary at times. “You know I need to enjoy too” 😂😂 Lovely convoy. Awesome drive @Shaaz Sha. We accomplished all the targets in the allocated drive time thanks to all who showed up on time and drove so well so that not much time was lost on recoveries. I suppose we drove 60km plus. @Shaaz Sha allowed all the breaks required to keep us focused which was very important. Good support by @Ranjan Das & @Russ when it was called for. @Aisha S got lucky to drive as the 2nd lead and I could see her vrooming behind @Shaaz Sha happily. Was this a fewbie plus drive or a notch higher level? I believe it was almost an IM level drive considering the seemingly difficult track laid out to us by @Shaaz Sha and surprised that all the drivers rose up to the occasion and drove extremely well. Sit back, relax, and bring your snacks, BBQ, drinks, and share your stories and experiences of the past year with us. Feel free to bring your friends, families and kids with their age-specific toys or games to enjoy brilliant outdoor activities. Please bring your own: Food / Grill / Cooking and serving arrangements Drinks and Ice (of course). Chairs / Mats / Camping Gear if you want to camp overnight. Action Plan: At 7:30 PM we will have Carnity Seniors to meet and greet you at the meeting point next to the DEWA station and guide you towards the actual location where we will setup the party tents which is only 5min away. At 8 PM SHARP they will leave this meeting point and bring everyone inside the desert. It's Christmas, and whether you celebrate it or not it's a great excuse to give something back to the wonderful desert that we enjoy week after week - and based on the disgusting rubbish that we have seen during recent drives it's needed. Our objective is to drive into the desert and search around for and clean up as much rubbish as we can find - saving the wildlife, fauna and flora that we all want to continue enjoying. Specific Information: We will be entering the Qudra Dunes with the specific intention of cleaning up the Desert. Please make sure you bring your own garbage bags, rakes, gloves or what ever else you think you might need to clean up. Bring more passengers to help with our objective, clear out the baggage area and make sure you have as much space as possible to carry out the rubbish that we find. Thanks @Kailas for An exciting and fun day in the desert. Being in such a short convoy has its benefits and the first half was the evidence of it. i always struggle a bit in the 3rd quarter of drives due to a bit of fatigue, but today was another story altogether. only yesterday I was mentioning to @Chaitanya D & @Anish S that I had not had a recovery situation in like months. I definitely have mentioned twice may be three times. And I was served with instant karma in the form of two crests and a standing stuck one for a vey mention. I should have kept my mouth shut yesterday. thanks a lot to @MMansoor, @Daniel Yang and yourself @Kailas once again for all the effort you guys put in for my recoveries and for a great drive today.

Thank you doc for a wonderful drive + camping. Loved every bit of it and looking forward to many more such exciting events. Hopefully next time it can be in a Friday night so that I don’t have to work remotely remote.

I expect that the experienced drivers (highlighted in the list) can act as support for the less experienced, showing them excellent drive lines and helping them in recoveries where the seniors (underlined) are not there. When we find some spot where disgusting levels of rubbish have been left, we will stop and as a group clear up, take the rubbish out of that spot and move on. There will be some fun driving - don't be worried about that, but we will be searching for rubbish, so think of the drive like an exploration. Because it's Xmas day, we plan to exit by 11, so everyone that wants can get home in time for any festivities. See you soon in the sand.

HUGE ADMIRATION to all of you for following what was planned strictly, - few self recoveries done quickly, drive discipline, communication, during camping and clearing the whole area while we left - @Adnan Halepota, @takeshi sobue, @Harshad Ashraf, @Looper, @Imteeaz, @Karthik Raptor, @topgear, @Anish S. Usually the car pieces are over engineered so 1” spacers shouldn’t have a big impact on your bearings. And it’s cheaper than new rims.

Center of gravity has nothing to do with spacers. The reason for the spacers is to have more space for the bigger tires when you turn the wheels and avoid the rubbing with the internal pieces. If you dont have that problem dont use spacers. Those will only add stress to the wheels if they are not necessary

Thanks for signing up for probably one of the most important drives of the year. Where Carnity members look at the disgusting state of the desert we drive in and do something about it. I truly hope there will be more like minded souls that understand that the timing was designed to allow for Xmas morning excitement (late start) and allow the day to not be totally taken up by this activity (out by 11am) but if not, we will clean up as much as we can and know that we earned our Xmas lunch. I promise that there will be some desert driving, it cannot all be work and no play - but the hope is we can clean at least a small part of the disgusting detritus left by the people coming to the desert. Your manage team @Ale Vallecchi, @Alex Raptor and @Dodi Syahdar will also be trying our best to create some festive cheer for everyone on the drive.

My video That was a super demanding trip, 17 hours driving in total. I was dead even the next day but, next time I will attend this drive for sure! The most challenging part was driving in the morning when it was +14

@Mohamed Seidam and @Atif bhai, just to add to this knowledge base we lift the car from its lower arm instead of the jacking points, so instead of lifting the suspension, we are actually lifting the wheel, plus if we need we can always dig under the tire to clear the sand to give the tire a free spin.

You can try other similar brand as far as they look and feel sturdy and heavy enough, then 2 ton jack is fine. Stay away from the flimsy ones. JZX jack is out of stock from sometime now, I guess due to logistics lag after covid lockdown. It's totally understandable.

As @Frederic mentioned in the desert the bottle jack is very narrow and does not give a good base, very unstable. Thus a floor jack of 2 tonnes should be sufficient. You are not going to lift the complete 2.5 tonnes at any given time. But make sure you're on as flat a surface in the desert before jacking the car and get a jack board as your base.

If you intend to lift the vehicle in the desert, you'll need a floor Jack, as a bottle jack is not stable enough unless you weld it on a kind of platform. When buying a 2T floorjack go for the JZX brand available in Dragon Mart or the YATO brand from Speedex. You will only be lifting a portion of the car so a 2ton jack is sufficient. A 3ton is of course better and more stable but extremely heavy to take in your car and carry it around in the dunes.

So I re-read this whole discussion again and it's great food for thought. @Xaf is of course correct. A single place where this information can easily be accessed is important. I get that it's about havign documents and not necessarily about people reading them @Javier M the flexibility and friendliness of Carnity is the DNA that makes it different. We don't want to lose that. We also don't want to be out on a drive where someone else expects you to be the one with all the kit in case they get in trouble. And ... documentation is helpful as long as it empowers correctly. @Rahimdad I think sometimes, we probablt underestimate the amount of time and energy the seniors put into managing the club next to the day job. It's clear that promotions can only come when justified by the correct methods (combination of driving and attitude/contribution) but maybe there is a place for seeking additional input from others which would not be seen as an imposition to assist in these areas. Happy to help prepare documents if that's what's needed.

@Xaf and @Javier M thank you for your suggestions. @Wrangeld I totally agree with your point of view. I am sorry @Javier M if any of us ever gave you a feeling that you are not being heard. We pride ourselves on the fact that we keep the forum open to all for suggestions on how to improve. As for the checking to see if everyone has the equipment as per the level they are being promoted to, we keep our eyes open, because it is not only carrying the equipment but bringing it to good use. On trips all the seniors keep their attention towards the budding members to make sure they have their equipment and are actively involved to putting those to good use, only than the promotion is announced after taking a survey among the seniors. Promotions are not made on the whim of one person, but collectively and based on the guidelines we have already posted. You will find these points in writing only in @Carnity, I have driven with many clubs and can guarantee you that you will not find any other club in UAE which can give you in writing what you need to do to grow to the next level. @Carnity is also the only club that will provide you with a certificate once you cross your level from Intermediate onward. @Carnity is fairly young, only 3 years old and we are constantly striving and bringing about subtle changes to continue in harmony. We do recognise that the delays are not well taken by all in normal conditions, we respect everybody time and are experimenting with ways to establish on time departures. You will soon see the changes being made to establish a better on time departure, rather than having to wait for a few people getting late. @Javier M your suggestions are valuable and we will review it and definitely try to implement it in the best way possible.
