Wonderful drive on the weekend. Absolute stunner. Everybody showed up on time and drove very well. Definitely an IM drive. The fun with IM drives are there are rare refusals and stucks. @Shaaz Sha made up for this by giving breaks in between for catching our breath. As @Charbel commented I felt I was in a motocross. Completely exhausted my built up extra energy for the weekend fun. It was nice catching up with old friends and having a chit chat in between, especially @Ahab Shamaa. Long time I didn't drive with him and it was fun watching him race the dunes from behind. Trip Report Dear friends @munkybizness @Zixuan Huang - Charlie @topgear@Gregory @Warren Flay@Bernard Kalaani@Daniel Yang@Gilbert Khalil what a pleasant morning to start by meeting some friends @Rizwanm2 and @Daniel Yang at the first gas station along the way to lisaili. Still I had to stope one more time again as I realized that the tank was just at three quarter full ! Apparently the guy didn’t make it full.still there in the next one I met @Gaurav fueling up his Pagero. Real pleasure . … I said to my self it’s our day today and it was . At the meeting point every one was on time. Flagging up and deflating after which an inside radio check and brief was done and we started our trip warming up slowly slowly till we got to the northern long range dunes of lisaili where we encountered the first stuck which was the only one for the whole trip . Please guys if any one got a pict of the nose of my Xterra kissing the ground in almost 60 degree up/ down have it in the gallery 😀 . I knew it was coming so I immediately gave the instruction to my second lead to reroute as appropriate and @Zixuan Huang - Charlie just perfectly did it. It didn’t take of much time to clear the path in front of the front of the car and the rest was just a piece of cake. Thank you guys for the shoveling exercise .🙏 Moving again slightly faster in pace after this physical warming and here it’s worth mentioning that the ridges and hardness of the ground precluded “formal” ridge riding and crisscrossing . I took it just easy and when ever it gets better we had some of that. .. our first break was at the Sabkha for about 10 min for a streach and I could have my sec cup of my home made espresso ☕️ Containing south crossing dunes one after the other till we joined the Baja track for a short while to re enter the dunes again before it’s end south again and keeping the Chimney as to my left as possible 😀 Now I felt the sand more softer and having more cushioning feel on descent so we enjoined in and out bowling in slightly faster and safer till we had to stop for a while to check Charley’s rising coolant temperature which it turned to be of no apparent major cause and transient . The other reason Topgear passenger felt unwell slightly . Being rested and comfortable I took an easier course toward the exit and by the time we were near the tarmac at solar park it was only 10:40 almost . Topgear , Gelbert Khalil and warren flay preferred to exit at that point and after checking that all ok and thanking them the remaining convoy and in agreement continued for anther almost one hour and that was in Qudra where we found the sand quality in between of lisaili and solar park. We played till the content of our heart to have our last break at my favorite crescent moon lake after which we exited at Bab shams where it was pointing to 11:50 on my watch . I have to say that I enjoyed my day today with you guys and every one of you did more than great and really drove very well. Drive Report Upon my arrival at the meeting point this morning i was greeted by a nice pond in front of us, where we used to have the official meeting point. Thanks to @M.Seidam his information, we lined up along the cycle track and once deflated, headed into the dirt track from where we did the briefing. The sand was maybe forgiving today, but honestly you guys and gals rocked ! Your enthusiasm and willingness to help others was spot on and that's what we love so much about these drives. A few highlights: - @Faiz Amir who brought the humongous Armada, was perfect as second lead. There was one hiccup where i crossed a dune and descended into a very rocky area, and thanks to him he did not follow and listened to my instructions perfectly and swift. - @Ayman Alqwasmi who took the challenge of bringing the Koleos, accepted the challenge with bravoure and drove excellent ! - @Yasirimam who was always immediately out and about to share his compressor, and help with the small inflation issue on @Jessica Lambert, you are a fantastic team player and i look forward driving with you again ! - @Mahmoud Taha Driving the Xterra without apprehension, they are fantastic offroad vehicles and you will surely get the best out of it. - The boys and girls towards the center and back, @Jessica Lambert @Thian @Simon Innes @Saleh Kuba @Beide Worku @Yesu Yarlagadda you all drove superb today, i hope you had a good time ! It was pleasure to meet you my friend @M.Seidamtoday morning, looks like you had an exiting drive today morning, I think you had a surprise stuck over there with your nose dive. and you might have even more surprised when you stick your shovel to that hard sand. i felt like we are shoveling some wet concrete today morning, 🤪

Thank you @M.Seidam for the fantastic drive (as always) and accommodating my passenger’s request for a short break due to motion sickness. Thanks @munkybizness for the motion sickness pill. He felt okay after that and fell asleep 😁. He was not sure if it was the pills or jet lagged as he arrived yesterday. I thought it was better for us to leave at Solar Park and let him have a relaxing afternoon. Back to the drive, I personally enjoy these sort of drives where we cross over to different deserts and we could see the different terrain, sands color and such. Today, I also learnt to drive gently and smoothly (for my passenger’s well-being ) so that I minimize sudden acceleration or braking which was what I tend to do. It gave me a different perspective to driving. I am quite pleased with my efforts. @M.Seidam i managed to capture these

Post Drive Report 'We Can be Heroes, if just for one day...' You can only drive to the conditions in which you find the sand, which let's face it were perfect today. As everyone here is a Fewbie, you've all driven enough in dry, sandy conditions to understand how lucky we were with the hard, packed sand on almost the whole route. We did 2 drives in one, had 18 cars in the convoy. That's probably a record in Carnity for a Fewbie drive and for sure a record for a drive covering 65km+. Ridges ridden, crisses crossed, sides sloped. It was immense. A single pop out, and one or two small recoveries were the only unplanned stops in the drive. We met the IM convoy of @Ale Vallecchias we crossed over the gas pipeline (taking exceptional care not to encroach at any time on the boundaries of that facility) and covered technical dunes with little more than a moment of hesitation. We even had an unexpected additional driver that the Carnity system had shifted unbeknown to me into the drive attendees. Thanks everyone for making it a memorable drive. @Alex Raptor @Niki - truly, the A team. @Richard Franks excellent 2nd lead (different to last time, for sure). Everyone else, excellent. It was a freezing morning today, with temperature just about 19 degrees, and we were all prepared and ready at the meeting point. We cautiously entered the desert after the radio check and briefing. Due to recent downpour, the sand had compacted to the point that it was as good as driving on an unpaved road. We had all excellent trails to follow after around half an hour of driving, and thank you @Brette for a wonderful morning drive. It was a- step up -from a newbie drive, and I hope everyone liked it as much as I did. Everyone in the convoy performed admirably,👍 and I enjoyed it even more because there were no stranded vehicles.😃😃 We had very few minor refusals and didn't utilize any of our recovery gears like, rope or a shovel. We had two breaks to stretch our legs, and during the second break, we discovered that @Quresh Motiwala car had a semi-pop out, which was quickly sorted out. You all were incredible today , and I appreciate everything you did to make it such a wonderful day. Thank you so much to @Patrick van der Loo for a fantastic second lead. @Joao, the FJ member did a great job buddy. you are in sync with your car had no issues at all.👏 The Pajero boys @Emanuel @Mohammed Talib Ali Rizvi, @BHANU PRAKASH VISHWANATH and @Quresh Motiwala... you guys did an excellent job. A 99.99% perfect drive. 10/10 intense. The recent weather had a small role to play but everyone was on their top performance today. @Ale Vallecchi your drives are unique and this was another example of what can be achieved. The technical portion of the drive after the Margham section was one of the most challenging at the same time most enjoyable drives since I started driving. While offroading, we cross dunes by using different methods, based on how the dune is formed and what the drive level is. Once you have spent some time in the desert, you will slowly start to pay more attention to the dune formations and how we cross them. Once you reach Intermediate and Advance level, you'll need to start learning how to read these dunes in order to navigate and create your planned routes in the desert. As a rule of thumb, the prevailing wind in UAE is blowing from a North-Western direction to South-East direction from 10AM onwards. At night and in early morning it will be reversed and blow from the South-East to North-West. This is something you should remember and you will notice when you zoom into certain areas with your navigation app (Google Maps, Gaia, MotionX, Mytrails,...) you will notice that the wind from that side has caused the dunes to take on their shape. This is a general rule and will not always apply, as you will see that in certain areas where wind is coming from different directions, you will see for example "star" dunes appearing. There are different types of dunes which are separately described below. As you can see in below picture, a dune is formed when the prevailing wind blows on a mound of sand, where the grain will move into the wind direction and create a ridge. The sand which falls on the other side of the ridge, creates a slipface, and this sand is not compacted by the wind. This is the main reason why we generally drive on the prevailing wind side or the convex side of the dunes on the Newbie level. "A dune is a curiously dynamic creature," wrote Farouk El-Baz in National Geographic. “Once formed, a dune can grow. It can change shape and move with the wind. It can even breed new dunes. Some of these offspring may be carried on the back of the mother dune. Others are born and race downwind, outpacing their parents. [Source: Farouk El-Baz, National Geographic, February 1982] The shape of dunes is affected by things like the strength, direction and consistency of the winds; the consistency and amount of sand; the hardness of the terrain and the amount of vegetation. Below we will describe the most common dunes found in the UAE. Different Dunes Crescent or Barchan Dune This is the most common dune. It forms the shape of a crescent moon when the wind blows from one direction. We generally use the words concave and convex to describe both sides of the dune: * Concave is a shape that curves inwards. * Convex is a shape that curves outwards. Crescent-shaped mounds generally are wider than long. On the concave side you will have the slipface. These dunes form under winds that blow from one direction, and they also are known as barchans. Parabolic Dune A parabolic dune is similar in shape to a barchan, but it is just the opposite. The tips of this dune point into the wind, and its main body migrates with the wind, forming a depression between the tips. Because of this formation, parabolic dunes are also known as blowout dunes. These dunes often occur when vegetation stabilizes sediments and a U-shaped blowout forms between clumps of plants. Example of Parabolic dunes near Faya: https://goo.gl/maps/ob8xu3y8VJJvF6hk8 Longitudinal or "Seif" Dunes They are also often referred to to as "sand ridges" or "seifs". Their length can range from a few meters to many kilometers and their height from a couple meters high to a couple hundred meters high. Wind pushes the sand and forms ridges parallel to the prevailing wind direction with slip faces either side of the crest. Linear dunes are straight or slightly sinuous sand ridges typically much longer than they are wide. They may be more than 160 kilometers long. Linear dunes may occur as isolated ridges, but they generally form sets of parallel ridges separated by miles of sand, gravel, or rocky interdune corridors. Some linear dunes merge to form Y-shaped compound dunes. Many form in bidirectional wind regimes. The long axes of these dunes extend in the resultant direction of sand movement. Barchanoid Dunes These ridges are similar to Barchan dunes. They are connected in long crescentic waves as the sand supply is much greater than that which forms a Barchan Dune. Star Dunes These dunes are formed when there are several prevailing wind directions - there is a complex wind regime. Typically there are three or more slip faces, whilst the dunes do not migrate they grow in height. Star dunes are radially-symmetrical, spyramidal sand mounds with slipfaces on three or more arms that radiate from the high center of the mound. They are created when the winds blow equally from every direction, causing the sand dune to grow many extensions and resemble a star. They are rare and are fairly stable and remain in the same place. Some are landmarks with names. I must say my favourite part was after crossing (the road) into Al Qudra - where the sand was drier and the pace quicker. By the way, congrats on managing to negotiate the Al Qudra dunes/terrain in your 2-wheel drive Xterra 🤣😂 Imagine what you could do if you used the 4-wheel drive option. Some pics in the gallery. AWESOME DRIVE. It was my 1st drive of 2022 and man what a drive @Ale Vallecchi gave us today. But as usual Ale's characteristic of drives never changed if anybody knows what I meant. Its always from Point A to B whether its intermediate, fewbie plus or fewbie or newbie. And we achieved just that. I have been to Ale's numerous drives whether its Long Range patrol or exploration drive or even a drive I had with him in Ganthoot during the national holidays where we just drove on and on and had our tea in the most picturesque terrain. The only boring part was nobody had even a minor refusal and the radio was free from cries - I have a refusal, I believe I'm stuck. Ale had to forcefully grant us breaks in between as everyone was driving perfectly in one of the most challenging technical dune section of the desert. When I started driving with Carnity everybody avoided going near the furnace citing it was extremely challenging with lots of technical dunes. Today the convoy proved that this is perfectly navigable and conquerable terrain. Thanks to @Ashok chaturvedi we had more insights into the life and daily routine of a camel. It was nice meeting @Wrangeld and his team on the way and I got to meet him after he took me to the yellow truck in Liwa. Nice meeting some old friends @Niki & @Alex Raptor with him. The lightest moment of the drive was when @Looper commented that the IM convoy of the camels met with our IM convoy. I was watching the camel trip lead. The moment he saw our convoy approaching he stopped to give us way to cross his convoy. He only moved when we stopped respectfully for his convoy to cross our path. The last 2 camels reminded me of myself and @Jorge Stepniak Felippe who was casually trekking around as all the drivers in the convoy was driving perfect. In short the 2022 drive started with a bang.

Time to change your name back from Looper to Goutam as now a days you don't practice the art of looping much.
