Yellow Truck Season is upon us. It's an annual ritual held mostly during the month of December over a 2-day weekend. We invite you to the 2023 edition of the famed Yellow Truck Drive. Yellow Truck, what is it? Buried deep inside the Bu Hasa Desert near Madinat Zayed City, there is an abandoned water tanker truck, which due to its remote location, has become a pilgrimage for many Off roaders all over the UAE. It doesn't look like this anymore, in 2021 someone painted it in the truck on national flag colors, it is now taken care of in that respect. How did it get there? Nobody knows. Only Speculations. It is literally in the middle of nowhere. We can go there and get our own ideas. What's the location? https://goo.gl/maps/9aiJC29bUyRFHmvJ9 Those who wish to join this drive from Dubai it's a 3+ hours to the meeting point, so ideally well rested body will enjoy this entire day drive without much fatigue, so reaching a night before and camping or sleeping in the car at meeting point would be ideal, but completely optional for everyone. Some say the pre and post drive parties are as famous as the drive itself. Let's all get together on the weekend of 16th December to fulfill our annual ritual obligation. SIGNUP CHECKLIST Please ensure that you are there at the meeting point at 7:30 AM sharp. Latecomers would be sent back. Firstly, get lots and lots of rest the previous day. The more the better as Liwa will not only challenge your vehicle but your mind as well. We would need your complete focus and fatigue due to less rest is the last thing that is needed on such a terrain. For those who prefer camping the previous night, you can do so at the starting point as it's a nice spaced-out area. Bring some firewood incase if you wish to have a bonfire to keep you warm. Cleaning up after the bonfire is mandatory. Ensure that your 4x4 is well serviced recently and all the lubes and fluids are topped up. 20 Liter / 40-liter fuel jerry can is needed depending on your vehicle. If you have any doubts, please post your query on the drive post and we will assist. A full fuel tank at the meeting point. The spare tire should be in good working condition. If not been used recently, ensure that you take it out and check the condition properly. Also ensure that you have the wrench that can be used to remove your tire (if needed). In the past we have seen that people upgrade their tires but keep the original wrench which is of no use to remove the upgraded tire. So please ensure that your car has the right tool to remove the tires (if needed). Air compressor, proper shovel, flag, fire extinguisher, first aid kit, Fully charged radio (tuned to all Carnity Frequencies) with spare battery / radio. If you have a car charger for your radio, please bring it along. Please ensure that you know how to switch off traction control (turning off Air bags is not mandatory for this drive). If it requires pulling the fuse, please research before the drive or better still, post your queries on this drive post and we will assist. Car charger / battery pack for your mobile. Plenty of water, approx. 5 liters per person per day. Bring along your breakfast, lunch, snacks, etc. in easy to eat packaging. We shall be having breaks during the drive. Dry food, energy bar, cookies, nuts, crisp to munch while driving Bring garbage bags along to carry your trash. Littering in the desert is strictly prohibited. Please take this event seriously and understand that this terrain, due to its remoteness and size of the dunes will challenge everyone on this drive. If you decide to bring passengers, please make sure they have spent a full day already in a vehicle in the desert and are used to it. Sweihan - Nagra Hill - Sweihan @Zed, @Patrick van der Loo, @Ashutosh Garg, @Tareq Al Turq, @Cha, @Bashar Beasha, @Jaro Tuzinsky, @Christian Andras, @Bjoern, @Benjamin Thank you all for signing up for the drive. For the last few drives my modus operandi has been, meet up and drive without much discourse about what we are going to do. My convoy planning has been limited to my second lead and perhaps #3 at most. The reason being that at this level the convoy members can manage at any level they are put at. Last time we drove in Sweihan we were only 4 members and I let the convoy order to be fluid. Fill in whatever position one gets a chance to, so that the conovy keeps moving. If one driver had a refusal, then they loop back into the convoy and keep driving, whichever position they get back into the convoy. But I found that Carnity discipline is very strongly embedded in all of us. After the first few min, the short convoy spontaneously decided on a convoy order and followed it till the end without breaking it. Frankly, I was very proud of the culture of discipline we have at Carnity and the strong sense of safe driving etiquette that comes along with it. We will deflate to start by 7:00 a.m. sharp, but keep in mind that the drive could be slightly longer than usual. After checking out a couple of play areas in the Sweihan we will drive towards Nagra hill and conquer it. We then will move south towards Old Lady dune but take a westward turn and go back to Sweihan. Just be aware that Sweihan and especially Nagara Hill; those places are a mess and are full of bouncy track infested desert area. Due to the dew-soaked wet sand the tracks are going to be pronounced and they don't get erased by the wind being made on sticky sand.

No worries there will be more such drives in the future. There’s always a next time.

It was controlled chaos from the start and especially at the end, just before the exit. As I planned it was a 2-hour drive, with half an hour's break. What I loved most about this drive was we conquered all the Big Dunes & Bowls that came in our way. Iftar Bowl ✅, Super Bowl ✅, all big dunes ✅. The sand was wet as if it rained the previous night, but I guess it is going to be like that in the foreseeable future due to the dew during the winter. The upside of the wet sand is it makes climbing dunes a tad bit easier, the downside is all the vibration while driving on the churned-up tracks, there is no escape from that hell. Hi @Dan S you need the tank to create the pressure. I have a Viaair 20L tank under the car, fed by two twin compressors. You need to install check valves (to prevent the high pressure back into the compressors) and a safety valve set a pressure lower than the tank maximum pressure rating. Another alternative, depending on your air filter setup, get 2 dry-filters and exchange them, one for off road and one for city. Look for cotton based elements, which you can carefully wash and dry.

+ cheapest fix, you dont need very high pressure to make this work, and it works very well for the oil sand mixture

Greetings to all forum participants!✌️ You may have seen my past posts on tuning the TLC 300 and Jeep Grand Cherokee. Since I often work on cars, this time I got my hands on the Nissan Patrol Y61 suspension. One of the key enhancements was fitting this steering tie rod, and I'd like to highlight a few of its major advantages. Firstly, a significant improvement in control and handling. The adjustable tie rod allows precise tuning of the suspension and steering to match individual driver preferences. It's a fantastic upgrade for enhancing confidence and stability on off-road terrain. Secondly, the quality of components was impressive. The installation was almost seamless due to accurate sizing and a construction that required no additional adjustments. I particularly liked that when the tie rod ends wear out, only the original tie rod ends OEM D8570-VS42A (left) and D8520-VS42A (right) need to be replaced, saving time and resources. And of course, the kit itself. All the attachments for the steering damper and components are galvanized and have an additional polymer coating, enhancing durability and protection against corrosion. These are just my personal impressions, and I understand everyone might have their own take. However, if you have any questions or are interested in similar enhancements for your vehicle, I'm always ready to share my experience and help find suitable options.

I use the air gun on ARB twin compressor without a tank. Fuse damaged couple of times which was easily replaced. I try not to use the air gun more than 10 seconds as a stretch and it seems to work without any issue. I use it to mainly clean the interiors.

this combo on my bushranger air max 3 compressor doesnt do the job... get some back pressure in the hose and get a small burst of air... then not enough airflow to move sand off my dashboard. Really need tank option (even the arb single compressor with tank should do the job)

Hi Kailas, Will be in a white 2020 Pajero 3.8 gls. Completed the desert driving masterclass with Gaurav on Saturday. Really keen to test my new found skills. Have intermittent off road experience over the last 35 years in mountains, beaches, bush, mud and sand tracks, throughout Southern Africa as well as the Dubai desert 19 years ago when I last lived here. Weekend Report What better weekend to pay homage to all 7 Emirates than the National Day weekend ? The plan was to cover all these emirates overlanding style, so a minimum time spent on tarmac and as much as possible through farm tracks, trails, wadis, and dunes. And there were many of them. Day 1 We met up in Ajman, as this was the first emirate to cover but unfortunately has hardly to no desert. A short drive through the farms and E611 underpass and before we knew it, we were out of that place We made our way to Kabir, a town known for its camel racetrack, located in Umm Al Quwain. The sand was quite compact so we started off at 20-22psi and kept this pressure all the way to the last hour of day 2. The part through the dunes of day one took us through Ras Al Khaimah and we took our lunch near the Masafi Friday Market in Fujairah. That one part "between sand and mountains", close to Al Ghail village (Adhen) looked absolutely magical and the donkey's were greeting us. As we made our way towards Wadi Shawkah in the afternoon, some clouds started to appear and a few drops of rain, but once we were halfway inside the wadi, it turned pretty bad. As there were lots of sedans in the wadi, and it was a busy weekend, it was difficult to keep moving and at one point a lady came running up to me insisting us to reverse because a flood was coming our way. While we were making our U-turn, some friendly locals told us to keep moving ahead as it was the easier way out, and they moved into full action mode by guiding all the vehicles through the wadi. That wadi, and especially the entry looked as busy as the Dubai mall that day, so evacuating it was not easy. Recovering from that adventure, we were running a bit late and had to skip the second wadi so we made our way directly to the camping point, a savanna East of Maliha. An evening spent by the fire with great company and laughs. What else could we wish for? Day 2 After a good night's rest, we decided to drive towards Maliha town and use the ADNOC Al Tayba to stock up our coolers and fuel tanks. The fact there were restrooms was also welcome of course. @Soufiane his Jeep was making some weird noises and on the parking lot we decided to inspect it before heading out. We found the sway bar to be sitting in the wrong direction, and had to disconnect the link rods, so we basically turned his Jeep into a sway-bar disconnectec Rubicon 7 Emirates edition ! We started moving and had to make up some time, so we drove on the farm track parallel to Jebel Faya and enjoyed the magical scenery. The second part, next to Jebel Buhais, was equally rewarding. Once we reached Pink Rock, @Christian Andras had to exit as one of his sons was getting some fever. I hope he feels better soon Christian and thank you so much again for joining us on this adventure! We moved further and passed Big Red, an iconic dune and came across a lot of dune buggies and cross tracks. Things didn't get better once we headed into Badayer. We kept good momentum as we were still on 22-23psi 😁 As we were behind on schedule i decided to keep moving along the DDCR (Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve) fence track, which allowed us to pick up some speed but it was a long boring stretch. We found ourselves entering Faqa town (Dubai) around 1pm, and this meant we only had 3-4hrs left to make it into Ajban or Nahel (Abu-Dhabi). We had a couple of refusals in the technical bushy areas of Faqa, but nothing could stop us. We crossed the border into Abu Dhabi and found pristine clean dunes north of Nahel where we had a great time but had to deflate our tyres to keep it manageable. We finally exited at the ADNOC in Nahel around 4.30PM. Day one we did 167km over 6hr 57 mins. Day two we did 170 km over 5hrs 27mins. This convoy was an absolute blessing to drive with. @Ahmed Farouk it's the first time i see you driving with us and you showcased superb self recovery skills twice. Super impressed with your driving ! @Damian also for you it was the first time with the club, and with a freshly new LC300. You drove amazingly well and i hope your family enjoyed this weekend as well ! @Soufiane always carrying a big smile, you drove great and it was great to see this is your first camp ever ! I am sure many more will follow ! @Dan S another fellow that's maybe small in size but makes up for it with the big truck and super positive attitude ! We have been using and recommending securing the tow rope for harder tug always, recently I got to experience its real importance. In Liwa across soft sand patch, when we have to pull a dead car, where we have to have a slightly higher rolling momentum to release the car from soft sand and yet continue rolling. During that time, the stock tow point failed and the safety rope absorbed the potential trajectory and hit the tow point back into the sand. No damage was caused to Raptor (towing vehicle) or any human around. Here are the pics of the climber shackle rated for 200 kg and the safety rope rated for 500 kg.
