in my case, the main issue I have in needing a lower is gear is indeed Mohamed @M.Seidam on side sloops approached with not enough momentum. While I remember not to fight the gravity, the FJ is usually able to recover small mistakes of judgement by downshifting. Only two issues while doing this... the engine often stays in the "wrong" gear for 2-3 seconds, which are killer for me in those situations, the loss of momentum worsen and you can only steer down at that point. Doesn't happen to you guys @JeromeFJ , @Niki, @Hisham Masaad ?
The second issues is that to force the downshift , the pedal goes to the metal and usually the reaction is the downshift accompanied by a quite important torque transfer to the rear axle which induces oversteering, usually easy to control, but it doesn't look the right thing to do as potential unintended consequences. By the way , this is what exactly happened to me in a recent ride with @Lorenzo Candelpergher in Sweihan...
Clearly the solution is in front of our eyes, right judging the momentum is the key and it addresses all of the above. "Funny" enough after driving my car that came from Al Futtaim with a Borla exhaust, the reason of misjudgement remains the same: my engine has a prominent sound already at low revs giving you the impression that a brutal turbocharged diesel V8 is pushing already the car with the energy of an angry bull... when actually, it's just noise... Amazing, that I am still tricked by that. Need to focus more .
I always use first gear only for challenging Situations

I went to Sweihan few week back with NB and thoroughly enjoyed the beauty and massive scale of AD dunes.
So this time it's FB, mean lot more fun is expected.
It is now in the plan to join Abu Dhabi drives @Gaurav , the videos of drives I have seen is really tempting 👍👍

Another wonderful drive @Frederic thanks for the same. The area is really amazing. The drive was going in a smooth continuous way, which I enjoyed and sure all other drivers. Look forward to visit the area again, and see you in sand.

This is really amazing, as many, I’ve never been to Sweihan, I realize now that Dubai and Sharjah bowls are just a soup plates comparing to ADH bowls. Thanks @Lorenzo Candelpergherand @M.Seidam for the brief and the videos, at least giving us an idea of what’s happening in the other planet. Hope nothing major @Lorenzo Candelpergher in your car, and all software issues.

Here’s a FJC. Happy with light Cooper AT (AT3 4S). Yoko Geolander seem great as well. I’d advice against BFG KO2 , too heavy, but many like it especially if you plan to do Wadis
my advice ? Start with HT if that is what you have, I think a Marshal I know still runs HT? When you found their limit, you upgrade . This is the best advice I was given … and never followed though !
bienvenido y que lo disfrutes ! See you soon on the sand!
calling @Ale Vallecchi, @Niki, @JeromeFJ, @Hisham Masaad among others to comment. There’s a prospective FJ fellow to help !
The same with me @Jona, as @PaoloMaraziti mentioned, I used to have the BFG, then changed to the cooper AT3, which is totally different and much better option. Of course the advise of the masters is still valid and to consider. Any way, welcome to FJC lovers group 👏🏼
