tick-tick noise from engine bay - 06' mercedes

Don't shoot me guys for saying this as I don't know whether WD40 is an approved belt dressing or not.

I have tried WD40 to identify which one out of 3 belts is squeaking in my Pajero multiple times. It just that it creates a dalmatian spots mess in the engine bay, so now I put a big towel around and secure it properly before I spray WD40.

TBH it seems this noise is because engine oil is low or what Saleem pointed that there may be some metal shaving, and some internal engine component is not happy.

Using WD40 on drive belts is not a good idea. The stuff contains petroleum distillates that will attack and destroy any belt that contains rubber in very short order.  If you can't get proper belt dressing, non-stick cooking spray also works well to identify noisy belts.

Sad truth

@desertdude makes a very good point. 99% of parts shops in uae have no clue. The parts guys aren’t interested in cars. They just punch chassis numbers into their system to get their 2000 dhs per month salary and they don’t care beyond that.

I remember rebuilding a supercharger on a MINI a few months ago. MINI dealer said the parts weren’t available from any source. It was a standard Eaton supercharger and I ended up ordering the parts from europe no problem.

Then I needed the oil to fill it. Everyone was like, what’s a supercharger, no oil is not available you have to buy a new supercharger. I went and looked up the GM part number. Simple thing, available all over the world but even the GM dealers said either no such thing or not available. I ended up ordering it from America with no problems.

Parts shops here suck. They just want to sell fast moving parts from corollas, Kali wali anyone who drives something different. Fast cash is all they care about.

There is a big gap in the market for a garage who is actually into cars and actually wants to source parts.

Btw guys.. i will update yall next week.. i cant see any oil marks in the area i parked so i doubt if it leaked.. i will show it to a garage near me and see what they have to say...

I dont think its the manifold if so i might be the first one to get it cracked on a w211... i think its the lifter.. i will check the oil again and take it to fasttrack cuz thats where i got it changed less than 2k kms ago

Just because there’s no external leaks doesn’t mean there are no internal leaks.

Weak head gasket, valve stem oil seals, piston rings, cracks in the block or head can leak oil into the combustion chamber and see it burnt off.

Any blue smoke from the exhaust? Weak head gasket, cracked block or head will smoke all the time. Valve stem oil seals will cause smoke on startup and overrun. Faulty piston rings will smoke on acceleration.

In saying all this, some of the modern engines from VW and Toyota can burn oil at an alarming rate with no visible smoke.

But, if you see smoke and recognise when it’s happening, it helps in the diagnostic process.

hi guys..

Its been really long since I logged into the forums. Was busy with uni stuff.

Update on the car: Did an engine flush with the liquimoly stuff and changed the oil with 20w50 and added hydraulic lifter additive. Yesterday morning when I start up the car (about 300kms done after the oil change), I noticed the sound is absent... Since it has been always there with me through my ups and downs (lol), I miss it. Having kind of a feeling that it will come back.

I know for sure it wasn't the exhaust manifold... Anyway.. the mystery sound is gone. I have been hearing that sound on a daily basis for about a month and a half. Sometimes it was too loud and sounded like someones beating the engine with a hammer, and sometimes it sounded like the sound which the chain of a bicycle makes when running freely. lol i know this is weird

here's the link to the video which made the chose this route

20w50 is too heavy for that engine. If there is a knocking or tapping noise the heavy oil is just masking it but the wear is still taking place.

the garage I give it to never told me anything about the oil. I thought they would have replaced it the same oil as mentioned in the service sticker.

Anyway, I will get it corrected next time. It's a 5k km oil

any bad effects on this? it used to be 5w40 and i was kinda shocked too when i saw 20w50 on the new sticker.

If i was you i would remove 20w50 oil from that mercedes right now. It is too thick and old tech oil for that car. And as i know if you make the car get used to the thick oil you may have problem later.

Go with whatever vehicle manufacturer says in term of the specification and get from reputable oil change service station and not just drum dealers - you know what I mean.

Go to Mobil 1 (my first choice) or Castrol service center in Dubai and Sharjah they can change in less than 30 minutes.

      Hi Guys,

I am planning to to go Hatta Lake for Kayaking Friday 09.03.18  morning. The venue opens at 8am and its 60Dhs per head for unlimited time.
I am attaching the route going to the lake. However i plan to take the Route B which crosses a wadi and just drive through it.
I have taken the route before through that wadi but half way only. This time i am planning to cross it and connect on the main road going to Hatta lake.
If any one is interested can join. Meeting point is the only ENOC station on the E611 at 6am.

Warning: Owning, registering, insuring, or driving a Jeep implies knowledge of and intent to abide by the following rules, regulations, and guidelines. Failure to obey the letter or spirit of the rules may result in your being ignored by other Jeep owners as you sit along the side of the road next to your stalled vehicle in a blizzard surrounded by toyotas, Nissans, and Hyundais.

As i see Jeep wave is not popular in UAE. If i am seeing any other Jeep specially another Cherokee XJ i am giving wave or honk to say hi. Seems like most of people dont know the rules. I can understand if a brand new Grand Cherokee owner may not know about the rules(because for most of them this is just a SUV) but i think Wrangler and Cherokee XJ owners should know. For explaining the rules i want to write something.

      For the wave one of the important thing is hierarchy. You should know what is the point of your Jeep. Lower point will wave first the higher point Jeep. For this one;
      Model year of your Jeep Is your Jeep stock daily or Off Road monster Is your Jeep classic or nostalgic model These are effecting your point. For calculating your point please find the link below;

For better explanation please watch the video below.

I would like to know the pricing to get my resonators chopped off and replace it with an x-pipe...
Also about the regulations, if any! I have seen cops pulling over ricers and asking them to floor it and next thing you know is that the car is getting impounded. I don't want to get in any troubles nor want attention by putting on a super loud exhaust but just want to bring out the rumble a bit on acceleration.

anyone with previous experiences or knows such shops that have readymade or fabricate one?

So anybody knows any place to get such lenses and glue from?
FYI I know buying a new headlight is a lot easier but then again for my specific model it's 1000+ for a piece OEM and about 800 aftermarket.. about 400-600 for a standard one but I'm having the bi-xenon + the labor. Just put in here cuz last time when I asked about the windshield, that was the popular answer. The point is... If it's not necessary, then why waste the hard earned money be it a couple of 100bucks!?
A lot of people don't know that just changing out the lens is all they need and according to what I know, it can be done for most of the cars out there!?

In most of these kinda car videos, people buy stuff from Chinese websites like alibaba/aliexpress.... I have had bad experiences with it but got a refund although lost some money due to exchange rates and I think it was because I didn't give any P.O.Box number mainly because I don't have 1. Have anybody else bought stuff from aliexpress? It's an awesome place where we get almost anything for dirt cheap price. My elder brother whose in India buys from the site frequently. The only problem he faces is the international shipping time period.

There are people who buy stuff in bulk quantity from alie and sell it on Shopify for triple the price.
Back to the thread lol. I would also like to know if any of you have swapped out headlights with a new one and how much you paid for it.
