Dear Desertnauts. One quick update regarding our long trek (at least longer than usual 😅). In order to allow each driver to organize themselves with any type of dietary requirement, or simply to follow their habits, I would like to inform you that we will pause for lunch at a cafe just next to Skydive's facilities. The location is just at the end of our morning's track, and provides food, refreshments, a large seating area, as well as toilets. I will share with you the cafe's menu. All those who prefer to bring their own food are welcome to do so. They can just purchase drinks (coffee, tea, juices, etc.) at the cafe, where we'll all take our break together. After lunch and a brief rest, we'll proceed, still deflated (hence with care) toward an ADNOC gas station on the way to Lisaili's exit, and the next entry point. Start locking the radio, so accidental change of frequencies can be prevented. Motorola has a star key to press for long to lock the keypad and channel button. Also use lanyard to hand radio on neck if there is no tight place like cupholder or armrest you can use to secure the radio.

@sri ganesh @Rizwan Waheed always be careful with 4HLc mode since its locked center-diff. Use it only on soft ground and avoid to make fast + sharp turns while it is engaged.

Having a second radio on your drive never hurts, and a Baofeng UV5R is only about 75dhs. After all we are dealing with Chinese radios that sometimes drain their battery without any reason or did not fully charge the night before. In case you ever need to notify someone you can stick out your hand and ask the driver behind you to stop and ask him to communicate to the rest of the convoy.

@Frederic thanks for the info. I am now driving with an “open” CAT as part is unavailable. I do get a single gunshot sound when change from 1st to 2nd at 6k RPM. I hope it doesn’t start a 🐪 race on my next drive!

Removing the Catalytic converter on a "recent" vehicle will give issues in RTA passing, so i would not go that way. It's a bit strange that the catalytic converter broke, as this is normally something that lasts many years. Straight pipes definitely a NO-GO, with Sharjah and Dubai now monitoring closely your decibel levels and serious fines are involved. I would go for a scrapyard catalytic converter.

@Niki Patel photography is very interesting. As @Frederic said its just "Capturing the essence of moments". The gadget is not very important but what is important is the man capturing the moment. You may think you have captured the moment at its best possible way but there are as usual critics trying to teach you that your technique or gadget is wrong. Should you care? Of course to some extent but at the end of the day its your picture and why should anybody care?

@Niki Patel its not the equipment which matters. Its the man who operates the equipment who is the master controlling the equipment.

@Mikhail Lukichev these are stunning pictures and I would very much like to learn and join you as a beginner! I have a very old beginners DSLR and only a few lenses (I’ll share details a little later). Hopeful it’s enough to learn with and take some stunning shots like above! Let’s see who else would be interested and we can hopefully plan something as a small group

Yesterday we went to Hatta for some hiking and at the end of the day we spent an hour or so taking some photos at the Hatta lakes. I just thought that if somebody in the Carnity is interested in the astrophotography, I can give a couple of advices and we can practice together somewhere. I'm not a pro by any means, but it might be useful for a complete photo newbies 😃

I have bridgestones ht on my pajero and about 18 months old. I drive with 13 psi and at 12 in Liwa. Have had a pop out once. So need to move off road tyres and am planning on this however my tyres are still good and am trying to push with them for now. It has occured to me at the time of changing it would also make sense to change wheels. Currently have 17inch stock rims. Need advise if moving to 16 inch rims and 265 would be better and if B there are any disadvantages ? Would i be able to find stock offset rims easily?

If the guys can put back the catalytic converter you can always try get it passed in RTA (you might be lucky)...

@Frederic I went over cross tracks at relatively high speed ( on 1st @ 6k) to gain momentum to get out of the bowl hitting the underbelly. The noise started immediately. On inspecting CAT at workshop after removal, the substrate was found cracked and broken in pieces. M not sure if a fuel rich exhaust (due to unichip retune) would degrade the material for it to be brittle. The attached pic is after they hammered it, but it was mostly in big broken block inside to begin with.

Dear @Brette, I already congratulated you on our other platforms, but it's necessary that all members know how well earned this promotion is. You worked very hard at it, finding time to constantly learn and improve. And you did so with a car that I believe has given you a few headaches in the past, but that also has honed your skills (to prove that it's not the car which makes a good driver). Well done!!

I drove in Faya last week end and started with 4H like I normally do however after some time i switched to 4HLc and drove all through the drive in that mode. Also attempted the climb with it. I could say the car was aggressive than 4H and i loved the response from the car. Having said that my previous drive was in Qudra south which was my first as a fewbie and i used 4H all the way and did not have any issues either. I always use tiptronics even on highways as i love how the handling changes with engine braking. I always drove manual in India and i love the auto gearbox but not in a pajero on the highway 😀. The use of tiptronics has changed my perspective about my car’s abilities which i never cared for last 5 years owning it!

You can go with Borla and/or Magnaflow (esp hushflow) lower decibel but free flow product. I'm using these both brand and happy from last 5 years or so. Beware that with loud noise Sharjah police can and will stop you to hand over 2,000 dhs fine. I recently got one last year when one of my flange gasket was leaking and making tiny bit extra noise, though well within 80 DB (allowed by RTA). So I fixed those gasket and went to Maliha police station to dance on cops tune to waive 2K fine. Apparently I also installed a flexi joint in between as main culprit of broken gasket was high speed dune attack and on harder bumps it stretched my exhaust setup and cracked that gasket. So while at it, consider flexi joint too.

@Hardik Mody you've been signed out of the drive as you are confirmed on the drive with @Brette at the same time. @Dodi Syahdar you are now added to the drive. @Emmanuel is aware that you will be driving two drives that day. This (even though it is the earlier drive) will be your second drive of the day.

Evening Ladies & Gents - quick update I put the rig through the tiniest bumps in the world and it held up - time to put it through some heavier bumps after a few modifications tomorrow! Check the results out below! I also figured out how to get better angles! Anyway enjoy!

@Ahab Shamaa value ur advice. The question I asked about 2 credits for the full day drive was only to clarify to every newbie who may have been promoted to fewbie that a full day drive would only be considered as 1 from the marshalls of carnity. I was proud I have been driving for almost 41 years since I turned 12 but learned that desert driving is a different ball game once I started driving with Carnity. As per the policy of Carnity Club I understand everybody is out there to help you improve your driving skills and not make you feel embarrassed when you get stuck as every stuck or refusal is an opportunity to learn self recovery. I never felt embarrassed when I got stuck or got impatient when somebody else got stuck and waited patiently for the convoy to move on. I didn't see any annoyance with anybody who accompanied me for the drive. In fact they were more than helpful to learn and teach. The most important thing I learned from Carnity drive is patience (I always lacked this) and helping each other even when you get drenched in sand. Now I'm more patient when I get stuck in traffic. Believe me I used to swear at the people who makes the traffic go at a snail's pace. Carnity has helped me change my mentality. I don't mind getting stuck myself or others getting stuck. I'm ready to help others and take help from others when I need. No ego or embrassement in seeking help or offering help. I'm here to learn and I will learn and then teach the skills acquired to others who are willing to learn.

I believe that this is an amazing platform for off roading. Proper chasis underneath, solid axle, diff lock. Sometimes companies offers one engine at the beginning and another options follow later on. If they put the 3.5 on this than we will have a new champ on the city. I guess 3.5 Nissan engine is 306hp. With a front bumper + skid plate you will have a off road ready machine. I hope this is not me being optimistic. I hope to see that 3.5 under the hood by next year model.

If the insides of the tyre are wearing so quickly it's possible you have a suspension issue. I recommend you go to a decent garage and have all your bushings checked and a proper 4 wheel 3D alignment which includes checking camber, castor and toe. A lot of garages here only check toe on the front wheels so it's important that all 3 dimensions are checked on both front and rear wheels and remember if the rear wheels are out, it also affects the front wheels.

Wow nice pics Did u use any polarizing filters for the reflection in the water? How did u cut out the haze in the atmosphere?

@Gesa-Marie Louise Fischer As this is a fewbie drive, you cannot join this drive. You will have to join an absolute newbie drive instead. If the one for Friday is full, you can join the one for next week.

Thank you @Srikumar and @Gaurav, i appreciated your help. I went to BMW road and checked almost all the shops and most of them does not have it. However, few shops had it (e.g Ford) but they did not want to sell it to me after they asked for which car i need it. And lots of garages were ready to put any oil. Finally, i found one in Redline same type and grade (attached photos), hopefully this one will be ok.
