Notwithstanding the several refusals I had in succession, I enjoyed the drive.......a big thank you to @Rahimdad, a man with skills, knowledge and a great sense of humor. I also wish to thank @Mohamed Seidam for his continuous help on several occasions of refusals, not forgetting @marks for his diligent guidance on my first refusal. And ofcourse the rest of the members in the convoy for their patience and team spirit throughout the journey. @Serafino thank you for your assistance in double checking my tire pressures. Finally the selection of the location and route was great, the highlight was scaling the heights of The Big Red.....have a great weekend chaps!4 points

Good evening to all As usual, a pleasure to drive with the Carnity crowd. It was a challenging drive, which was very much expected. We drove 10 Km in 7 hrs and has made me respect the desert even more. @Wrangeld and team thank you for your support! I managed to take a few pictures which are now posted in the gallery. Looking forward to a next drive! Mario4 points

What an amazing day @Lorenzo Candelpergher, what a great expert and soon Marshall. You were brilliant, kept checking on every single one of us, provided continuous updates, responded dynamically to all the challenges and unfortunate events, and even managed to finish the day on time, can't get any better than that. A smaller convoy was truly enjoyable. We spent the entire time driving instead of shoveling Hope to see you guys again soon, it was a very capable convoy indeed.3 points

@Lorenzo Candelpergher what a drive today.... brilliant execution, great leadership, always helping, pushing to go that extra mile. This is the best drive i had till date with Carnity. Thanks to the entire convoy/seniors in helping each other & understanding . First time to be in the second position in the convoy which was a great experience. See you all soon, stay safe & happy riding....3 points

Hi all, hope all of you had a wonderful day offroading and thanks each and everyone for super charged drive. Though we were all in to a fewbie plus drive , the actual drive was equalent to an intermediate drive. Thank you @sertac for all those hill climbs and today we could cover all most three or four major bowls. It was really energetic feel to be in the drive and enjoyed it to the core. We had a few refusals and to my knowledge all were self recoveries. As said, today we had convoy of "steel" ready for all the challenges. Thank you @Jeandre Bezuidenhout for the sweep and thanks all of you ( not mentioning every one detail) it was a pleasure to drive with you and hope to see you soon in the sand.3 points

DRIVE REPORT Dear Desert Wanderers, What a drive, today! And what a convoy!! We were just 7 cars including myself: this was already a very well promising start, as less cars mean less problems and more driving time. Everyone was ready by the agreed time and by 7.10am, having completed our briefing, we immediately headed North-East, while a very shy sun was rising in a partially clouded sky. This meant that the first 45 mins were characterised by alternating lighting conditions: clear and sharp shadows and highlights when the sun was shining and more flat and soft contours when the sun was hidden. The convoy found immediately a good harmony with my sinuous wandering and went through the first stint with very few refusals. Unfortunately @bassel el rafei's Pajero, for the third week in a raw, showed again transmission overheating problems just 40' into the drive. After cooling the transmission a bit, we decided to try going a bit further towards Pink Rock to see how the car would behave. 10 mins later the problem was there again, so we decided to escort @bassel el rafei out at 2nd November Cafeteria, exactly 1h after our departure from Tawi Nazwa, but it should be said that until then he had done very well as my 2nd lead. We then headed back South, aiming at climbing Pink Rock, but the queue at the bottom was longer than those for Covid-19 PCR Tests, so we kept cruising around the South West end of the Rock, peeking from time to time to see if the way up was eventually clear. When the 2nd last car of the other convoy that was heading to the top gave it a go, we descended to the departure area as fast as falcons to secure our slot. Climbing Pink Rock is always a remarkable experience, as it has all the characteristic moments of drama: the waiting, which creates the suspence, then the action, when excitement, fear and focus mix up, and finally the overwhelming view on the other side, where a sense of achievement is brushed by the wind. Everyone made it to the top on their first attempt, but a special badge of honor goes to @Arun Mathew, who had attempted the maneuver in past drives multiple times without success. The adrenaline levels had just normalized, when, after circling around Pink Rock from the East Side, we reached the 1st play area of the day, the well known Pink Rock Bowl, where the convoy spent at least 20 minutes attempting to cross the bowl from the South side, ie the steepest and longest one. Here @Hennie Schoeman and @Aus Alzubaidi showcased a brilliant straight down - straight up performance, whereas @imranaasghar81, @Franco Swart and especially @Arun Mathew had to learn the hard way how to get out of a bowl by building momentum spinning in higher and higher circles. A few minutes earlier, @Aus Alzubaidi, when asked a feedback on the 1st portion of the drive, had expressed the desire for a faster pace... At this point he was going to get satisfaction. We indeed started our descent South towards Big Red (and the famous "Other Big Dune Before Big Red") increasing our pace and bumping up the technical level along our winding lines. To my surprise and great pleasure, the convoy stood to the challenge and did incredibly well during this demanding stint: not a single stuck and a few refusals, brilliantly handled by the concerned persons, under the supervision and with the support of @Hennie Schoeman and @Franco Swart, perfect Center Forward and Sweep, respectively. The fun was great and we all got carried away, however @imranaasghar81's daughter brought us all back to reality, signalling that she was starting to feel car sick. After a short break and some fresh air, it was decided that we would let @imranaasghar81 exit on Hatta Road and we would then go back in for the last hour of the drive around Big Red. After greeting our friend and favourite 360 degrees video maker, we fiercely turned our noses North once again. We bypassed Big Red by the West side, wandered around the the Second Big Dune after Big Red, then, with 30 mins to go, we tackled the ascent to the last challenge of the day. In an amazing performance, way beyond my expectations, to be honest, we were able to seamlessly climb our way all the way to the top. @Franco Swart asked for the height of Big Red and I couldn't respond: what I know, however, is that we went from 132m above sea level to 209m in a matter of a few minutes, in a spectacular ascent that took us all the way to the highest point, which was not more than 5 meters higher that were we left our tracks. Kudos to all, but above all to @Arun Mathew, who had the extra challenge of some apparent malfunction of his engine, which was not revving up as a 265hp 3.8L engine should do on a Jeep Wrangler. You would think we had enough at this point, right? No way! We circled down to the play area on the East Side of Big Red where everyone gave it a final go, climbing straight to the top, where @Hennie Schoeman and @Aus Alzubaidi could have probably crossed the crest and reached the other side, given the incredible ease which they displayed... At 11am sharp we reached the tarmac at Al Badayer roundabout on Hatta Road: 3h 50' total drive time, of which 3h net moving time, having covered 59.7km at an average moving pace of 3 min/km. What a drive, today! And what a convoy!! Thank you all, Desert Wanderers: your smiles at the end of the drive made my day more than any dune we crossed.3 points

@Ahab Shamaa I am waiting for @Jun Zamora to confirm his particpation. At the moment since Islam and Jon M already have had a drive this weekend, you followed by @siddharth maheshwari (assuming it's his first drive of this weekend) would have the first preference. Just an update for everyone, is that as Angela's car is not feeling well, I will be leading this drive tomorrow. Since there could be some last minute changes in particpation I shall post the final convoy numbering in the morning. We shall be using Carnity Channel 4.2 points

With the tremendous increase in the number of COVID cases in the UAE, we all have to be responsible while off-roading. Failing to abide by any single precaution at any time during the drive, will result in an immediate ban from Carnity Off-road Club. ZERO TOLERANCE First offender - 1 Month Ban. Second offender - 3 Month Ban. Third offender - lifetime ban and report to authorities. COVID19 PRECAUTIONS 2.0 All Carnity off-road drives will be LIMITED to driving only: No Socializing and gathering allowed at any time. No break for taking photos, breakfast, smoking, etc. No exchanging of off-road or recovery gears. Wear a mask at all times, while outside your vehicle. For passengers restrictions, follow RTA or NCEMA guidelines. All passengers should be inside the car, at all times. Maintain a minimum of 2-meter social distance at all times. Sanitize your hands and recovery gear after use. PS1. If you and your passenger cannot sit inside your vehicle for 3-4 hours please DO NOT JOIN CARNITY DRIVES. PS2. A Member who has RSVP the drive is RESPONSIBLE and LIABLE for their passenger's compliance. PS3. The above precautions apply to everyone irrespective of their vaccination status or schedule. PS4. You can confidentially submit the photo of any offender by sending an email to [email protected]. How to comply Read the drive post before arriving at the meeting point, so that you know your convoy numbering and radio channel. Arrive at the meeting point and switch on your radio to the pre-set frequency of the drive. Stop your vehicle at least 10-20 meters away from each other. Deflate your tires, while wearing a mask, and then go back inside your car. All briefings will be done on the radio now, so pay full attention to a briefing for your own safety. After the briefing, fall in your convoy position just before the drive starts. While driving if you get stuck, announce on the radio and be inside your car at all times. Trip lead and/or support will guide you on the radio for self-recovery or tow-rope recovery. While there is a stuck or a refusal, everyone else supposed to be inside their car at all times. You can only take a bio-break during the drive, by requesting trip lead permission. Once the drive is over exit out to inflate by maintaining 10-20 meters distance from each other. While inflating, only the driver supposed to be out and with the face mask at all times. After the drive, you can talk on the radio for any feedback, suggestions or help you need.2 points

Wow this question comes to bite me back. Although my question was a bit different but handled quite well by the technical gurus available to us. @Barry was my main help to understand and decide against either one. Firstly to understand the difference between a Turbo and a Supercharger. Turbo needs outside air and kicks in at higher revs. Supercharger produces its own air from within and is not reliant on outside air. So Superchargers are more helpful in all rev bands. That wants me to go for a supercharger. Now the reason why we should not get one. You will end up spending 3 times more than your Jeeps value to get any help from it. Why? No matter how much air the Turbo or Supercharger tries to put in, the values of how much air the engine should get is decided by the MAF Sensor. So we can get the MAF sensor changed, right? Yes, but the ECU is than programmed to supply a certain amount of air, fuel and sparks from the spark plugs to create a certain amount of power. So what all do you need to change to make any difference? Good question. So you need to change the ECU to a programmable one and pay about AED 40k just for tuning. But you also need a fuel pump that will supply more fuel. Don't forget to change your manifold and exhaust system for all the carbon to be released from the engine. Oh by the way you will need to get forged parts for your engine because your engine will not be able to survive with all the extra stress. Spark plugs and wire sets will have to be upgraded. So finally after spending AED 120k you're able to enjoy your Jeep and still your skill levels will never be high enough as what the Jeep is offering you. Plus guess what, the RTA just scrapped your car as it is no longer street legal. So now buy a truck to pull your trailer with the Jeep as you cannot drive it on road anymore. Hope you are on 7th heaven enjoying your Jeep for that 10% extra power you wanted to make. As for me after 12 years of driving in the sand I'm still crazy enough to come out week after week to learn new stuff about myself and my car. It always surprises me. About 3 weeks back I was lucky to find a good line on Faya and made it 75% to the top from the front face which was the highest ever. Last week I made it 90% on top of Faya from the front face and I'm learning never to say never. I have always tried to find my cheat routes to the top, but recently got that passion back to push myself and my car to the max and it gives me great satisfaction. Looking forward to catching you on top of the tallest dune on Mars as UAE Mars rover inspects how you did it with a moded Jeep. Enjoy.2 points

As we have been respecting authorities guidance & Carnity COVID guidelines to resume desert drives with caution by keeping social distance and wearing mask at all times outside the vehicle Unfortunately few off-roaders have difficulty in understanding and abiding these guidelines. As published in the national newspaper of UAE, everyone need to understand that still there are no gatherings allowed and authorities are issuing fine for 10,000 AED for host and 5,000 AED for attendees. https://gulfnews.com/uae/health/people-caught-violating-covid-19-safety-instructions-prosecuted-1.1591381059748 If you spot anyone stepping out of the car not wearing a mask, please remind them on the radio immediately. As we all are in this together, so we all have to help each other to remind. Failing to abide below list of restriction will result in an immediate ban from Carnity Off-road Club: FIRST WARNING Minimum 1 month ban from joining any Carnity off-road Club drives. Written warning will be issued on your Carnity profile. SECOND WARNING Minimum 6 month ban from joining any Carnity off-road Club drives. Written warning will be issued on your Carnity profile. If you do not like these restrictions, please stay at home and do not join for any off-road drives. Every Carnity Off-road Club Member has to COMPLY WITH THESE COVID19 GUIDELINES FACE MASK IS MANDATORY, WHENEVER YOU STEP OUT - NO EXCUSES. LEARN TO CONFIGURE YOUR RADIO, before the drive. Nobody will teach you or exchange radios like before. Read the detailed instructions posted here - to configure. If you still cannot configure, ask on forum ahead of time.
