Thank you @Foxtrot Oscar for insisting myself to exit. The car had some heating issues since 2 weeks during the drives but it was keeping on going and going up the dunes. Since you insisted that its abnormal for the XTERRA I have given it to the mechanic for thorough check up of the cooling system. It seems the thermostat valve is clogged with years of sludge. I was under the impression the car was heating up because of the weather change. Anyways the cooling system has been given for complete unclogging and service and hopefully it will solve the issue. Thankfully no oil has seeped into the radiator and the engine looks fine. Thanks again for your timely advice and wise decision. It would have destroyed the engine very soon if I continued like this for some more time.

@Foxtrot Oscar many thanks for the last Tuesday drive it was planned to be short afternoon drive but turned out to afternoon to night time drive as everyone consented to the idea of extending the drive time. We have two early exits @Thomas Varghese had an engine heat up and @Gaurav Soni detected some vibration sound from the power steering and both for precautionary reason decided to exit the drive. I hope they did not have much of damage and can resume the drives ASAP. The desert becomes very scenic with the sunset and pleasant cool winds we saw very few Gazelles but no other animal life. This area to me is a perfect picnic spot and must be visited for it there some chatter between us on having a BBQ one night there (surely post Covid). Near the end we had one bad stuck and equally tough retrieval. Drive Report Tuesdays are all about breaking the hump of the working week by getting out into the sand and letting off some steam. We covered just under 69km in 4.5 hours We had a very experienced convoy for a Fewbie Level drive and all that expertise didn’t go to waste. I had decided it was time to pass the baton of responsibility to our Fewbie driver who is very keen to learn the ropes. Under the instruction of @Craig Finlayson and my watchful eye @Shehab Alawadhi was ready to get his gear out. Thankfully as we were negotiating the technical patch the opportunity presented itself as @Thomas Varghese got stuck. @Shehab Alawadhihandled the recovery very well. We headed out of the technical patch and into the wide-open long-range dunes we had lots of opportunity to side slope and cross some ridges. This didn’t present anyone with any issues and the fewbies at the front of the convoy were all handling their vehicles very well. I think we were about 1 hour into the drive when @Thomas Varghese had some severe overheating issues. We brought the temperature of the car down by spraying cold water on the transmission cooler and turning the heating on full blast to take the heat out of the engine. When the digital reader was at 92o it was safe to start moving the car again however for Thomas that was the end of the desert drive. The car had shot up to 110o by the time we reached the track. I do hope the repair is economical Thomas, , its such a shame you had overheating issues as you were having a good drive No sooner had we started motoring again when @GauravSoni car started to have some issues, well an unfamiliar sound, It was better to exit the car then and there as opposed to risking damage so off we headed back to the track. We headed back into the long range dunes, as we did so we were lucky enough to see the local training their falcons, I couldn’t hide my excitement when I saw the drone with ‘prey’ attached and the young bird swoop in to grab it with its mighty talons. What a treat that was! Once more to the fore we headed back in again and had a good time continuing with or side sloping and getting atop some ridges. I was keeping a watchful eye on our two remaining Fewbies and both were coping admirably. Then a call came for me to add some spice. I checked with the convoy and it was agreed everyone wanted to get into it more. Huzzah! I’m always up for that! I upped the pace as we headed nearer to Solar Park and we had some great dunes to tackle en route to the Sabka With light fading and being nowhere near our proposed end point I asked the convoy what they wanted to do and if they were up for a little night driving, My question was met with a resounding yes, @Ashok chaturvedi wanted to flash his new lights and @Ahab Shamaa lit up the skies with his trillion luminer set up. We slowed the pace but still tackled some good dunes. Night drives are thrilling without the need for speed ! As I made my way into another dune I caught sight of a cluster of rocks, it was unfortunate that I had just asked everyone to stay close as in the very same breath I asked for no one to follow, it was too late for @Veedooshee and @Lawrence_Chehimi. and it led to @Veedooshee being stuck on the side. I tried digging but the sand was so soft and deep that it became a thankless task. Given the angle and the precarious positioning of the rocks I asked Shehab to step aside and allow @Craig Finlayson to recover @Veedoosheewith the rope, three gentle tugs and she was out . That was the signal to end our night adventure. @Lawrence_Chehimi you handle your car very well, I don’t recall you having any refusals, you had great control for the ridge riding and crossover. You coped extremely well when I raised the level on what was only your 2nd fewbie drive Likewise @Shehab Alawadhi, you too had a great drive and I was pleased to see you learning how to recover, , I was delighted to be able to give you the learning opportunity and to see you develop as a driver since our first drive together back in Faqa. I know some of the tight dunes can be difficult, but you handle them well for the most part and you are adding self-recovery to your repertoire. Every drive is a learning opportunity and it doesn’t matter if you are a newbie, fewbie , IM , advanced or expert. Every time we head into the sand we learn. @Melenanyand @Hisham Masaad- I could heat Islam providing help when you had some refusals. I know its tough at the back of a convoy as the sand gets churned. Use stucks and refusals as learning opportunities to develop your self-recovery skills. You will get a better understanding of your car and how it handles in various situations we find yourself in with the sand if you try to get out on your own. ‘Tell me and I forget; Teach me and I may remember; Involve me and I learn.’ Benjamin Franklin. @Ahab Shamaa, it was great to drive with you again, Thanks for keeping an eye on the cars in front and highlighting fishtailing. "The move" as we are calling it now is always fun to do, its difficult in a bigger car but can be done just as good as a small car, next time ill blast the Tokyo Drift song 🤣

I remember well the day I went for my Absolute Fewbie drive with @Wrangeld had to read the manual a night before on how to switch my Jeep to 4H 🙂...and on the way was watching video on how to use the deflator and ofcourse the Not Fight Gravity lesson from Richard...Been very interesting months with some awesome learning session with Prof @Ale Vallecchifun times with @Rahimdad bhai always telling me to take it easy, thanks to Sweihan and Shuwaib ride with @Chaitanya D and @sertac was a good intro to vastness of this beautiful contest between Nature and Machine. And ofcourse the continuous guidance over multiple drives and over forums from @Gaurav @Vanessa8580 @Frederic @Kailas @Tbone @Janarthan @Brette@Lorenzo CandelpergherC and all friends at Carnity. And the learning continuous....looking forward for the next drive.

@Rjducos thanks for signing up for your first Carnity drive. Looking forward to meeting you on Friday morning. So we get a better understanding of your expertise can you please let us know the following: Vehicle - I see you have a F150 Lariat; Does the vehicle have any modifications? On the Lariat, there are some quite low air dams fitted sometimes at the front that can impact the clearance of the vehicle on the dunes. If you are in any wat concerned about these its a good idea to remove them before venturing out. Experience: You say you have been out a few times before, great. Can you give a few more details? Were these desert drives or picnics or overlanding? How does success look to you? We all come to the desert for our own reasons. It would be good to know what it is that you want out of your off road experience and in particular why you signed up to join the club. As you'll see, we love to empower people to take their own (unmodified) vehicles off road for what ever reason - but it's good to know what you see as the 'end game' here is anything. I am looking forward to seeing you Friday morning. There's a great group of different experience levels coming on the drive, so it should be fun. See you soon in the sand. There could be no better introduction to the sand than through @Mehmet Volga (although I will need to get him to explain how I never yet got that BBQ invitation - must be in my spam!). @GauravSoni kindly inform if you have any mechanical issues with your car and have they been fixed, as you had to exit early in Tuesday drive with Angela @Foxtrot Oscar. As we are planning to driving in the dark, I would advise you to join only if your car is to the best of conditions to avoid any issues in the middle of desert.

@Rahimdad thanks for your feedback, indeed the majority of the accidents posted on this thread were mainly due to people tried to fight gravity or lack of attention and ignoring safety matters. i was trying to clarify whether the 2WD was intentionally chosen or if it was genuine human error (i.e people forgotten to switch to 4 wd) but your replies (that thank you all for your input) covered me! have to say it is very interesting topic and in theory i learnt a lot, i will try to keep all these advises in mind when i am off roading!

Hi @Chaitanya D the car is currently in garage. Had a failing steering pump which is now being replaced today. I will take the car for a spin today to ensure it’s back to normal and ready to venture out!

@Mohamed Seidam This drive was cancelled due to the lack of sufficient eligible members for this Extreme level. Only Francois was eligible out of 3. Luca has shifted the RSVP'd members to @Foxtrot Oscar her Intermediate drive on the same day of which he will lead a second convoy.

@Wrangeld ; the problem with @Roda Kum is that he wants to have bbq everywhere in the desert but can't go longer than 5 m on the sand. Then he has to share half of his meat and drinks with the rescue guys to pay for recovery! That's why I suggested him to join Carnity to save his bbg viands. I was waiting for @Roda Kum to get some off-road skills before invite you in. His BBQ level is not like his off-road level so we can utilize this opportunity to get repaid

One question: do we need radio? If yes, is it something standard or is there a specific model? Experience off road (if any) : Completely newbie.. All my desert experience is barbecuing (thanks to @Mehmet Volga What it is that you want to be able to do with your off road car (e.g. climb moreeb, go on family picnics, a bit if fun and excitement): Picnics (did I mention barbecue?) and lots of fun Looking forward to be learning with you guys!

Well, my love for the Xterra is still there, but we both parted our separate ways and found new partners 😁 . We're still friends though! As promised, the winner is a 2014 Rubicon, GCC specs, 86.000 km, no mods, and a lot of money 😅 (well not really THAT much) Thank you all for your guidance and advice, and special thanks to @Wrangeld who I annoyed many times with countless questions and adds, and to @Craig Finlayson who @Foxtrot Oscar annoyed on my behalf. Now I just need to watch loads of videos and learn how to use all those off-road buttons!!! Will probably be christening it in the desert in Emmanuel's newbie drive, if time allows.

With the tremendous increase in the number of COVID cases in the UAE, we all have to be responsible while off-roading. Failing to abide by any single precaution at any time during the drive, will result in an immediate ban from Carnity Off-road Club. ZERO TOLERANCE First offender - 1 Month Ban. Second offender - 3 Month Ban. Third offender - lifetime ban and report to authorities. COVID19 PRECAUTIONS 2.0 All Carnity off-road drives will be LIMITED to driving only: No Socializing and gathering allowed at any time. No break for taking photos, breakfast, smoking, etc. No exchanging of off-road or recovery gears. Wear a mask at all times, while outside your vehicle. For passengers restrictions, follow RTA or NCEMA guidelines. All passengers should be inside the car, at all times. Maintain a minimum of 2-meter social distance at all times. Sanitize your hands and recovery gear after use. PS1. If you and your passenger cannot sit inside your vehicle for 3-4 hours please DO NOT JOIN CARNITY DRIVES. PS2. A Member who has RSVP the drive is RESPONSIBLE and LIABLE for their passenger's compliance. PS3. The above precautions apply to everyone irrespective of their vaccination status or schedule. PS4. You can confidentially submit the photo of any offender by sending an email to [email protected]. How to comply Read the drive post before arriving at the meeting point, so that you know your convoy numbering and radio channel. Arrive at the meeting point and switch on your radio to the pre-set frequency of the drive. Stop your vehicle at least 10-20 meters away from each other. Deflate your tires, while wearing a mask, and then go back inside your car. All briefings will be done on the radio now, so pay full attention to a briefing for your own safety. After the briefing, fall in your convoy position just before the drive starts. While driving if you get stuck, announce on the radio and be inside your car at all times. Trip lead and/or support will guide you on the radio for self-recovery or tow-rope recovery. While there is a stuck or a refusal, everyone else supposed to be inside their car at all times. You can only take a bio-break during the drive, by requesting trip lead permission. Once the drive is over exit out to inflate by maintaining 10-20 meters distance from each other. While inflating, only the driver supposed to be out and with the face mask at all times. After the drive, you can talk on the radio for any feedback, suggestions or help you need.

FJs don’t actually get stuck; they just park themselves for a short while 🤣 love it! I still think we should have gatecrashed that BBQ, the smell of charcoal burning in the night air is one of life's simple pleasures. Maybe next week I'll do a night drive again I thoroughly enjoy it too

What a fantastic drive this was! I enjoyed every minute of it 😀 The latter bit of the drive was awesome, and the desert night was exhilarating and refreshing. Thanks for the concern @Foxtrot Oscar regarding the overheating issue. Luckily it cost me less than 1000 AED for the repair which was mainly flushing of the radiator of the slime and sludge, replacing the suspicious top radiator tank along with replacing the thermostat valve and the small fan on the right side of the radiator. The Japanese cars are very sturdy and very reliable considering the troubles other manufacturers give and parts are readily available. The XTERRA engine is still in good condition as compression was checked and seems to be in prime condition and the head and its gasket is intact. The garage has reported the car is ready to hit the dunes anytime after their road test. Thanks to you for making me exit even though I wanted to remain and I value the experience and expertise you have as a marshal. Probably the engine could have got fried as it started to heat up surprisingly on my way back to the garage after the exit. Thanks again to everybody else for waiting patiently for Angela's return after my exit. As Arnold says in Terminator series "I"LL BE BACK".

Hi @Chaitanya D my car is repaired of the engine cooling issue and is ready to take on the sands. The radiator is flushed, thermostat and its valve is replace and the small fan at the bottom is replaced too. The garage informed me its fine after their test drive. I will check tonight and tomorrow morning too. If there is still space please add me.

Congratulations @Desert Dweller for an excellent desert toy. I have started to fall in love with the Rubicon. As for getting used to the buttons, I do give MC where I can get you used to all those buttons. Now I'm wondering, what would you name your new partner on the desert.

@stavros papachristos firstly thank you for taking the time to go through this thread and posting your valuable question. You are right in saying on many occasions we have pointed out that some of these vehicles were trying to pull a stunt in 2 WD when things went wrong. But mostly it's due to fighting gravity or being on the wrong line or even people ignoring safety instructions. Driving in 2 WD could be an honest mistake or could be done deliberately to drift in the sand. All these go against the safety protocols preached in Carnity and this thread to to make you aware about the dangers of not following instruction. Its always better to learn from others mistakes.

I am sorry I don't have GoPro.. Guys if any body has it would be great to bring it and we could fix it in the last Car. Later I can get the video edited in smaller clips. When it comes to the specific Dunes where we do it individual we can record and share....Just to capture some funny and memorable moments.

@Luca Palanca Falsini I don’t understand why the drive has been cancelled ? 4 cars are the best for such drive . Is there another reason ? If for number , I can give up the IM drive and sacrifice my self for the sake of not cancelling it . Provided that we all are elected by the committee of extreme drives 😉 In the case of reconsidering please let me know so I can jump from IM to extreme mode 😉

Welcome to the club! People are free to take pictures and videos, as long as they do not involve gatherings or are of others without their consent I guess. I used to use a GoPro fixed somewhere on the car, so that's an option as well. After the drive, a gallery will be available for everyone to share their photos and videos.

Hi @Chaitanya D, I have to sign out of the drive. My car is showing some excessive engine heating issue. The mechanic told me he can get it right and hand over the car on Thursday but I don't want to deny a chance to some body else. Kindly sign me out of the drive.
