  3. @Hisham Masaad - i agree that @Ahab Shamaa is a very bad influence and can have you spending your money as you earn it. Imagine now him and @Watteau combined - they are terrible influences and should be kept apart for all of our safety! Though i do wish i had allowed myself to be more influenced by @Ahab Shamaa and met @Watteau sooner. Here is my experience @Lorenzo Candelpergher : Summary - if you have the budget, don't cut corners and go for convenience & speed. I went from a built in Compressor which had a regulator so auto shut off at the right PSI (slow) which had 2 hose setup (screw on hose ends) and though i enjoyed not having to set up an external Compressor - was tiring waiting for my tires to inflate (20 mins for all 4). My mistake was i went half way to my solution and purchased a decent external compressor (Mean Mother) Plus a 4 way hose (Indeflate). This has reduce airing up to 9 mins but now I am getting annoyed at the lost convenience (i gained time back but not in comfort). If you decide to go the 4 way setup, def look for Speed + Comfort/Convenience (don't trade either off) and take a look at what @Hisham Masaad has implemented (he has 4 separate short hoses (so easy to store) connected via an outlet by each wheel. He doesn't have to manage a nest of cables! I now own 2 compressors and want to buy a third - DONT BE ME! As for airing down - I used the JT Brooks Deflators (LINK) but am now just using my 4 way hose to also air down (again DONT BE ME ) Finally - its all relative. i came from a setup with a built in Compressor so even though i halved my air up time i am still moaning/complaining. perspective is everything so if you have neither currently then any setup that brings you back some time and comfort will be a plus.

  5. Welcome to my world, I lay awake at night optimising airflows and trying to work out a way to stay in the cab whilst this is all going on, whilst worrying about how to fold the hose and stop it taking over the truck, with such a long beast as the raptor, it needs a 5 metre run from the tailgate to the front, what about the tire chucks how do they stay on, what is the length of the valve and the flow difference between 3/8 pipe and 1/4, the list is endless and mind boggling. For some reason my tires have always been at 40 psi for the road. But now I think I have the solution. I haven't completed it yet, but I'm splitting the truck into left and right. There is a dual ARB on either side of the truck bed with a 1 gallon air tank and a pipe to an air manifold. That manifold has a pressure gauge if needed and a US standard (ARB) air socket, and a 1/2 inch solenoid valve (closed when no current). The valve is connected to a switch in the cab one for each side, along with a switch for each compressor. I arrive I connect one hose to each side and a push on "closed" (no air when off) chuck on each valve I return the the cab and I switch on each solenoid and monitor the air pressure via TPMS. because it is connected to two tires I can effectively balance the front an back pressures if one deflates quicker than the other. Once finished I remove the hose from each side and place each hose in a mesh bag. When I want to inflate, I attached the hose and chucks and turn on the compressors, using the TPMS to reach the desired pressure. By having two ARB dual compressors it will reduce the time by half to inflate, currently 20 mins will now be around 12 mins. Raptor tires are huge. Might be overkill for some people, but I have really enjoyed making this system and learning about airflow in parallel and in series and manifolds etc. I have seen some trucks in the USA that have four individual pressure switches and dump valves and a plumbed network of pipes with small whips to the valves, this allows them to set pressures manually for each tire for inflation and deflation, a central pressure switch that effectively is controlling four tires I have tested and found it not to work effectively. TPMS in my experience will have one tire every 15 inflations that fails to register but by holding a magnet close to the tire valve you can force a reading to update, the TPMS (as I understand) works by sending a signal every few times it rotates and meets a magnetic field somewhere in the wheel well. Now if only I can find a hydraulic arm to put my flag on and off................

  6. Dear @Lorenzo Candelpergher, I have here to blame and thank @Ahab Shamaafor things I made in my car. It started by recommending the Apex valves to me, which I fixed and it is really far away easier, faster and convenient than any deflating process ....Many thanks for you @Ahab ShamaaπŸ˜„. Re the compressor, I fixed one in the back, and made air connections to each tire, which I connect to the tires with small hoses. As soon as I connect the hoses, I run the compressor through phone application, deciding the pressure I require. As soon as pressure required reach, alarm on the phone start. This is again has saved so much time and effort, allowing me to remove the flag and do other things, visiting other participants on the drive πŸ˜‚. Now @Ahab Shamaathe blaming part, making me paying so much, specially doing other things, which you have nothing to do, but you are the one pushed me there 🀣. But at the end, i am enjoying. Should you require @Lorenzo Candelpergher, will wait for you tomorrow morning to show you the whole process, starting deflating.

  7. ...β€œFind a way , or fade away” don’t remember though where I came across that ... yesterday I realised it so let’s start πŸ˜„ ... arranging the stuff quickly and getting in my truck along with my little companion who was in a hurry more than I was till he shouted β€œ dad the bag β€œ πŸ˜±πŸ’‘... luckily my foot was still on the break paddle while the gear βš™οΈ is still on R .. it’s still not a stuck situation but it would be worse when you reach the meeting point and the radio is in the bag forgotten ! ( first positive ) To my surprise almost half of the convoy was already ready to launch by the time we reached ( half an hour ) before 6pm and after triple check the meeting time was correct which made me really 😊 saying to my self we will not fade away today ( second positive ) Driving on the dirt track heading east and south till we reached the long range dunes and the action begun in a relatively slightly faster pace progressing slowly slowly in a Newbie drive manner perfectly synchronised and scaled by our Maestro lead @Chaitanya D of a 15 vehicle convoy long with excellent response. ( third positive ) maybe this was the longest convoy I participated in so far , with experienced drivers that some of them got already promoted to FB level on the same day while the remaining half were from experienced IM drivers who excellently supported and enjoyed supporting the drive in all and all ( 4th positive ) off-course the meal with no spice is not enjoyable. Our first one was offered by a nice β€œ royal crest β€œ ( pict in Gallery) which was dealt with in an educational mode to our fellow driver and no rope was needed ( 5th positive ). With sun incline became steep kissing the horizon it’s no longer seen behind those long dunes .. RSVP time πŸ€£πŸ˜€ and on the clock we all lined up to plan for the next week booking. Thank you πŸ™ Almost pitch black and we found way by illuminating the path via our head light ... smoothly exciting rhythm till we got our second stuck situation from back of the convoy in quite nasty pocket. I loved the approach and the way we discussed it among the seniors till we find way and in no time we were on course again ( 6th positive ) My seventh positive I got the chance to meet and drive with new faces whom I knew from the forum and it was a real pleasure πŸ™πŸŒ· @Darren Brooke @Gregory @Sunil Mathew @Anoop Raj @Wade Pat2 @Zed @Karthikeyan Govindarajan @Ehab @Thomas Varghese @Gaurav Soni Thank you guys for making that evening so enjoyable @Hisham Masaad @Craig Finlayson and @Tbone it’s always an honour driving and being part of the team last but not least I extend my big thanks to our lead and friend doctor Chaitanya @Chaitanya D well done πŸ‘πŸ™ cheers all 🌷

  8. Gadget envy! πŸ˜† This is my humble system: 1. Deflate: (a) JT Brooks deflators, (b) sunblock lotion if afternoon drive πŸ˜… 2. Calibrate after deflate and during drive: ARB low air pressure gauge (analog) 3. Inflate: (a) on board twin-piston ARB compressor, (b) 4L ARB tank, (c) Power Tank Inflator (picture attached, works well and is reasonably precise), (d) sunblock lotion if morning drive β˜€οΈ I concur though with @Ahab Shamaa in that the 4L tank does not really speed inflating up, but what to do, it's installed already πŸ™„ Wish list, but will not acquire because space in SWB patrol is limited, a CO2 tank (Power Tank or Smittybilt) and APEX deflators. Apart from an occasion when I was shamefully late to a drive, I try to be as early as possible to have sufficient time to deflate the tires and flag-up. Heat is indeed an issue, difficult to get used to, but is okay.

  9. I should add as well, that by having the air tank I can run air tools as well, the idea being that I can run a high lift air jack to assist in pop outs on one compressor whilst having the other one with a single hose and chuck to inflate the offending tire, also there is another pipe hidden away that joins the two air tanks with a valve so if one compressor fails I can open the valve and still use the system on a single compressor.

  12. Dear Desert Wanderers, One of the things that becomes a bit annoying as we approach the hot season is deflation / inflation: the first for afternoon drives, the latter for morning ones, as outside temperatures are getting way above 45Β°C and even if these activities take just a few minutes, they last long enough for anyone to be soaked in sweat. For this reason, the quest to find the most time efficient and comfortable deflating / inflating strategies becomes a very popular one at this time of the year. When deflation is concerned, as almost every offroader, I have gone all the way from conventional deflator to E-Z deflator to valve stem remover, having eventually found that removing the valve stem is by far the faster and most effective solution. In recent times, however some high precision fast deflating valves (Apex, to name one brand) have been brought to my attention by the never-sleeping snoops at Google / Facebook / Amazon who kept on suggesting them so frequently that I decided to have a look. These valves incorporate a fast deflation mechanism which allows, once the cap is removed, to deflate as quickly as with a conventional valve stem remover but with the advantage of allowing easy toggling for precision adjustments and for an overall faster deflation as the time lost for removing and putting back the valve stem is eliminated, while retaining the TPMS functionality of the original stock valves, when equipped. I'd like to know more about actual user experience, beyond the enthousiastic one by @Ahab Shamaa, who, I'm sure will share his feedback in this thread. When inflation is concerned, on the opposite, I've looked at the combined option of a) having a compressor permanently mounted in the car so I don't have to spend time and energy taking it out, opening the bonnet, connecting the wires and undoing the whole thing after use and b) using a 4in1 simultaneous inflation / pressure equalisation system with the aim, once again, of minimizing effort and time (while all 4 wheels are inflating, which in any case takes slightly less than doing so one tire at a time, one has plenty of time to do other stuff: removing the flag, chatting around, resting inside the air-conditioned car, rehydrating a bit, checking navigation stats, etc.). I've seen many Carnity members adopting either or both options more and I'd like to hear their opinion, starting with @Luca Palanca Falsini, a known time-optimising freak πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚, who recently shifted to a 4in1 inflation kit and from @Hisham Masaad who, I believe, has an on-board mounted compressor. Looking forward to hearing about your feedback, experiences, mistakes, dos and don't, suggestions and warnings, Desert Wanderers!

  13. Hello my dear fellow Carnitians; interesting thread you started@Lorenzo Candelpergher😁 @Niki @Hisham Masaad , you guys have as big an appetite as I do for upgrades. I just had to steer you in the right direction πŸ˜‚ @Watteau, you have a great system on your car and I’m more impressed that you did the work yourself πŸ’ͺ🏻 Back to the topic at hand, as far as the deflation goes and in my opinion, the Apex valves are the best thing out there since sliced bread πŸ˜€ They truly work very well, and are the fastest solution I’ve seen on the market. It literally takes about a minute to deflate all 4 tires from 40 PSI to 8-9 PSI. Once you’ve used them for a while, you can kind of gauge when to stop deflating at the right PSI. As for inflation, I believe Hisham’s solution is the most convenient out of all the Carnity people I know. Attach 4 small hoses to each tire and voila! I’ve seen however a similar system to Hisham’s, where the inflation/deflation system (4 small hoses, each to a tire) is attached to an ARB double piston air compressor, where inflation/deflation happens from the convenience of the car, using an iPhone! It is brilliant, because by the time we finished the drive and reached the inflation point, the gentleman had already inflated all 4 tires (while driving). He then removed his flag and off he went. Didn't step out of the car for the inflation; only to remove his flag! One last word, I found that the tank doesn’t speed things up much on the ARB system. Instead, I opted to install two in-line ARB compressors in the car and managed to cut my inflation time by half πŸ˜€ Something to think about @Hisham Masaad and @Niki 😈

  14. Have been using Apex valves since Mar. They work like a dream as @Hisham Masaad mentioned. Besides fast and easier deflation, have noticed that they help in faster inflation too. Earlier my 33" used to take about 3.5 minutes each to reach 34psi, with Apex am able to do this in about 2.20.

  17. Point taken @Zed, along with comments from our marshal and lead @Chaitanya D WRT the rank, i am an "absolute" fewbie feeling like an absolute newbie , and yet to get a taste of fewbie rides, which i am cautious myself, and may attempt only after some more NB rides. I applied for FB to widen the options i have for ride sign up, and not based on conviction that i am a fewbie. I still feel that i have a long way to go for being a proper fewbie, So your points and feedback are always welcome, as a more experienced driver.. i see you have quite a bit of experience with your Y62, from other posts in the forum, so keep it flowing !!
