Now that we have more Fewbies in Abu Dhabi and even coming from outside, plus to help the R&D / Exploration Department of @Frederic, @Chaitanya D, @Kailas , I'll list here the tracks that were endorsed by DCTAD (Department of Culture and Tourism) and mentioned in VisitAbuDhabi page (just in case the page is offline in the future). I've only tried one-and-half of these tracks: Remah to Nagrah route and that's because it's marked "Easy". I didn't find it that "easy" since Remah is soft sand + technical up-down & criss-cross; maybe a good warm-up before reaching Nagrah and playing with power & speed. The other half is Al Fayah South to Khaznah, maybe we can do that for Al Fayah Part 2 Fewbie+ next time 😁 Anyways for the rest of the trails, I prefer someone more senior to guide me and hopefully these will be inspirational for future Abu Dhabi drives: 1. Remah to Sweihan (Easy according to DCTAD, but I would categorize it "Fewbie") One of the highlights of the Al Remah Route is an authentic Camel Racing Track. Close by, you will find the Telal Nature Reserve with the possibility of spotting some deer. Other highlights include beautiful desert trees near Tawi Naqara and an amazing selection of high dunes, beautiful Gaff trees. Remah Google Maps Track / KML file that can be imported to GPS app here 2. Wagan To White Sands (Easy according to DCTAD, but I haven't ventured here, maybe Fred will start this trip for Fewbie 😁 ) Regularly driven by Bedu (local farmers), there are often tracks to follow. Can be done in reverse, however in some areas it will be more difficult. Be mindful of water pits, as the groundwater table is very close to the surface. Look out for camels, including camels training for racing, usually later in the day and early morning. Wagan Google Maps Track / KML file that can be imported to GPS app here 3. Al Fayah to Al Khazna Route (Advanced according to DCTAD, cc @Frederic this is the "southern" side of Fayah that I was talking about in our Faya Exploration Fewbie+ trip) This advanced route takes three to four hours to complete, with steep climbs, sharp drops, deep bowls and highly technical dunes. Khazna Google Maps Track / KML file that can be imported to GPS app here 4. Umm al Oush (Intermediate/Advanced according to DCTAD, near the border of Oman) Advanced moves required, like side-sloping and side-cresting. Easier to tackle with a long wheel-based car that has a 2” lift. Can’t be done in reverse. Sights include enormous dunes, starfish dunes (cc @Frederic), and incredible scenery. Umm al Oush Google Maps Track / KML file that can be imported to GPS app here 5. Hameem Loop / Tropic of Cancer (Intermediate according to DCTAD, near the Saudi border, save this for Winter-time driving) Expect slipfaces and deep bowls. Can’t be done in reverse. Sights include plenty of gazelle, an abandoned Nissan Patrol and solar power bank, and camel and goat farms. Hameem Loop Google Maps Track / KML file that can be imported to GPS app here 6. Liwa Crossing (Advanced according to DCTAD, near the Saudi border, save this for Winter-time driving) This is an advanced route with huge dunes, some of the largest in the UAE. There are some very tricky crossings and this remote route may take 1.5-2 days to complete. Make sure you take everything you need with you - early exit from this route is not possible. Thanks for your drive report @M.Seidam and the support yesterday morning. Upon the first 15 minutes we headed into the dunes, we had to cross a technical area that made me fear the whole track would be like this, but soon the air cleared and we were greeted by super virgin dunes, indeed quite similar to the Qudra and Lisaili area in Dubai, which in fact is not surprising because the distance from the shore line and mountains is similar. We can easily see the closer you get to the mountains, the more ore colours the sand more brownish and red. We were able to explore quite a bit, and the entire team was performing splendid ! I had a superb second lead watching over me and making small corrections where needed for the convoy. Great job @Xavier Treasurer Also an extra pat on the back of @Humayun Ghias who took the Y62 with stock bumpers unscathed through this area and never struggled anywhere. Mighty impressive ! The minimum amount of refusals and stucks, and a small pop-out which was easily fixed, meant we could cover about 50kms while keeping a good pace. Obviously as this was the very first time we explored the area you can be assured that in the future we can scale it up even further once we gained some experience. I want to thank also our Dubai/Sharjah boys @Lakshmi Narasimhan@Mario Cornejo@Humayun Ghias @GauravSoni @M.Seidamwho took the effort of getting the stick up the nose and driving the distance. I think you can agree these few seconds of inconvenience are totally worth it, and once you will have experienced Sweihan, Bu Tais, Wagan area you will want to set up your tent permanently After all, Fayah is only the tip of the iceberg. Our Abu Dhabi / Al Ain Team came in full force as well, and I love driving with such an amazing team who stick together and demonstrate the camaraderie and jokes during the drive, but are also pro-active in supporting within the convoy. Abu Dhabi Al Fayah Trip leaving my home early morning heading to explore an area not driven in by Carnity before by it self was quite exciting to me regardless the level of the drive. It turned out later that every thing can be doable when you have a bunch of enthusiastic experienced fellow drivers lead by an ambitious legend to explore new land. actually it was too , like some others , first time driving in the sand of Abudhabi and truly was not disappointing at all . the area where our lead took us felt so familiar to many of us in terms of the sand color and consistency as well as the type of dunes encountered. “ Al Qudra 2 “ 😎. Probably we looped a quite not small section but if the weather was allowing maybe in the coming winter we can make a day drive from Al Fayah up to Swehan and even further. Obviously every one was on time and I didn’t realize that the fenced gate opens by an imaginary remote control 🤣 that was in Frederic’s pocket 😊 The start needed small reroute to over come a long pipeline hidden under ground then we vanished inside to explore what was upcoming . As this level was Fewbie plus so whenever was possible we drove , we sloped , we rode ridges and crissed cross and did the “ ROUND & ROUND “ loop 👌 The beginning of the drive started with the rope twice to uncrest two vehicles and ended with the jack to fix a pop out . Apart from that couple refusals in super soft sand all self recovered with or without instructions in no time . I really enjoyed the day and if the climate was better I wouldn’t have minded to do more . It was great pleasure meeting few new fellow drivers as well as catching up with the others I drove with them from quite a while. @Frederic thank you for leading this fantastic convoy . Thank you @darren thompson, @Lakshmi Narasimhan, @Ranjan Das, @Hisham Masaad, @JeromeFJ for your comments and nice pictures. I am glad to know that you guys enjoyed the drive. This morning i was very surprised to find the whole area quiet, there was no traffic at all. This specific area is normally so busy during the weekend and very churned up. Luckily, there was some wind that healed the desert and we found nice virgin dunes and play areas as well. As usual, i like to start the drive easy so that we can wake up properly and begin warming up for the rest of the drive; at the same time it was pretty bushy terrain around Tawi Nazwa. Everyone drove really well, with barely few minor refusals and a stuck. The stuck was recovered swiftly with little bit of shoveling, there was no need for rope recovery. We got the chance to enjoy play areas with no tracks and we made some attempts because there was no one except us around. Second half of the drive, we headed towards Big Red, where we made most of the bowls and climbs which is always my favourite part. However, it was so sad and heartbreaking to see so much trash around pink rock🙁. Thank you so much @Hisham Masaad for the excellent support, @Ranjan Das for being an amazing sweep with your new ride 😍 and @Lakshmi Narasimhan as always flawless second lead. @Frederic wonderful that you and the entire team were venturing into new terrains. The certainty of the unknown does add to the excitement and it's great to see some very good particpation from both Abu Dhabi as well as Dubai members.

Having a 2.5" lift gives me the confidence of not getting crested 90% of the time. Well, this trip jinxed that thought and after looking at the scratches made on my cross-members, I'm thinking of getting a full underbody skid-plate next... just in case our Marshals ask to cross a "railway" again 😂😂😂 Thanks to @Frederic for leading the adventure, @Xavier Treasurer for 2nd lead and @M.Seidam for sweeping and capturing those moments 👍🏻 Also kudos to my new friends from Dubai who took the extra mile of crossing the border @GauravSoni @Lakshmi Narasimhan @Humayun Ghias and finally get to see my dream car VTC SWB Patrol @Mario Cornejo 😊 Until next time!

My first drive in Abu Dhabi @Frederic and what an amazing areas it offers for off roading! I am really keen to return and hope to visit some of the legendary areas people talk about like Sweihan, Liwa, Bu Tais and others. Thank you for having us in the drive and take us to explore the Al Fayah area, the colour of the sand, technical and tall dunes resembled to many of us the Al Qudra desert and surrounding areas. @M.Seidam thank you for supporting the convoy, and rest of fellow drivers, it was a real pleasure to meet some of you for the first time! I managed to take just a few pictures and have posted them in the gallery. Bye for now and hope to see you in future drives!

@Abdul Hannan what happened after my Y62 rolled over, this happened in Sweihan Abu Dhabi, so might be different for Dubai. 1. Magically the Y62 was in the upright position, but otherwise you need to fix the car so that it's not upside-down. 2. Call 999. In my case since no major injuries, there was no need for ambulance. You will get SMS asking to click link and share your current location. Saaed (Abu Dhabi Accident Patrol) will then call you to confirm location. 3. Call Insurance if it provides Free Tow Truck Recovery. Otherwise by standing near the highway, usually there's always a few passing by like taxis... 4. While waiting for Saaed, we fixed our 2 pop-outs because the car anyway needs to travel a bit later to go closer to highway onto a tow truck. 3. Saaed came, asked what happened. Explain. He took lots of photos using iPad and put into accident system. This is your CHANCE to ensure Everything is covered! You don't want insurance to tell you that the police report didn't mention Rear Bumper, and you have to pay 2000aed for original bumper 😅 Speak politely to the police and ask to see the damage report. Show him all the parts that are broken so he can enter it into the system. 4. Saaed will give you receipt with accident report number. You need to go to website and print the report to show the insurance receptionist (or some you can email/whatsapp the accident number and they will print it before you come). 5. Drive slowly towards the highway, find a Landmark (sign saying Sweihan KM10 or something), then wait for Tow Truck to come. Put the car onto the truck, then sit next to the driver in front and guide him to go to the Agency Workshop (Nissan Body Workshop in my case), or your insurance's appointed garage if it's not Agency Repair. 6. While in the truck, call Insurance again to tell them you're on the way to the Agency / Appointed Garage and to start the Claim Process. 7. Once checked-in to Agency / Garage, they should have all the paperwork ready if the Insurance has started the Claim Process. 8. Pray... A LOT. I waited 2 months to get my Y62 Patrol back but was happy that it looked brand new, everything was replaced original, I mean EVERYTHING: Bent Roof replaced new, Broken Windshield replaced new, Broken side windows replaced new. Even the Front and Back Bumpers that I broke during earlier Carnity Newbie drives were replaced! 😊

Hehehe can relate so well to the owls vs larks comparison... Begining of April hated the idea of such early morning drive (purely due to challange of waking up), Tried an afternoon one - hated it more - no one could even dare to try a recovery by shoveling and one pop out through the drive with a team member was enough to consume all energy, don't even ask about inflating and deflating experience , Then gathered courage to try a night drive - found them the worst (without i put in additonal lights i am not going to try it again) Since May being doing early morning ones, no parties on Thursday but it's worth it - the sight of early morning sun through the desert is really rejuvenating after a crazy week. And no complains from family as by 1pm i am done with my sleep and ready to be a chauffer/valet/buttler to family for their outings and my chores..😎 - i am still the self designated boss of my home and life (at least for 4 hrs in the desert) 😎😂😂 Now don't even need to put an alarm i am usually fast asleep on Thursday by 11 and up by 230pm..it's just too addictive.

Even without tent we camped at meeting point over night!!!! Nothing can stop us 😜

Maybe it's time to add a roof tent to the next Pajero upgrades.

Agree. Just that when deciding to do the lift, do it after arriving at your own conclusions and requirements, and not because of vested interests of clubs and their garages.

@Frederic it was a great exploration drive, worth coming from Sharjah. Guess I have to shift my home near Abudhabi border. Nice terrain narrow technical dunes, exploring the length of the terrain for much longer duration will be good to try in winter. One thing for sure @ @Carnity we don’t see any vested interest of any kind whatsoever. The degree to which we remain neutral amazes me.

What a great drive we had today. Warmed up a bit in the early morning without any hiccups and as the day progressed @Kailas increased the level and everyone just went with it. We saw an excellent tutorial on ridge riding and crisscrossing with step by step increase in the difficulty making sure everyone was comfortably made it to the other side. I had an opportunity to brush up many of the necessary off-road skills including recoveries. Thanks to you @Kailas for this wonderful drive. @Darren Brooke, you were great in the sweep, you kept a keen eye on the convoy, and mostly it was you guiding others when they faced refusals. For the beast of a car that you drive, you are a superior driver, yes. Good to see you @Gaurav Soni, it was some time since I drove with you. It was wonderful of you to give relevant advices to other members. Your experience in overwhelming numbers of drives shows obviously. I learn a lot from you. @Anoop Nair Your ridge-riding was impeccable. I had driven with you on a couple of newbie drives in Tawi Nazwa, 2nd Dec Cafe area you have definitely have come a long way since then and were able to self recover both your refusals with guidance from @Darren Brooke. A piece of advice from is to go reverse as far as you can on a level to moderately inclined plane when you face refusals. I find reverseing is easier than trying to move forward. @Luc Khaldoun, this is our 2nd drive together and definitely you shown you are a lot more comfortable with your car. @Rawad & @Ishraque this was our first drive together and I had the privilege of towing you both today. You both had driven quite well today. @Adhir Saxena this was our 2nd drive. You seemed to be in an excited state at the back. I had my kid and his friends come along to give company. Back of my jeep is quite cramped, and makes someone new and not used to claustrophobic and sick due to the tinted glasses as well as a small bench. But unlike previous occasions we managed the issues quite well and they had good fun on this drive.

You can't mathematically prove the necessity of lift. You have 2 options - continue to think each day about the lift or to make a lift. I don't know any jeep owner who regrets lifting their cars. The roads in the UAE are wide and straight - so there is no real difference you have a Porsche or Jeep

Post Drive Report I did not share with the drivers on this drive that today was the anniversary of my 'famous' technical drive into Lisaili. What took the convoy on that day (wholly due to my lead, by the way) two hours to cross was covered in around 10 minutes and without incident. That meant that we were able to continue on our way through almost 4 hours of uninterrupted driving through what has to be some of the most beautiful and varied dunes in the region. We had great speed as the convoy was so focused on the drive, great banter (or perhaps that should be a bantu) and excellent teamwork and help for each other [none more than me as my car decided it had a liking for bottoming out on soft sand]. In the end we had comparatively few stops and those we had were really not too challenging which is how we managed to cover a lot of ground - a fact that is even more impressive because we did venture into more than one technical patch. With the wind whipping up at the end, we could not take all the ridges or crosses on offer. Did that take anything away from the drive: I don't think so. We would have made it Last Exit had there not been the unfortunate failure of @Gok Krish jeep. We all hope that it's not too serious. What's great is that we were able to get you out of the desert, and I really like the team approach of everyone that meant we all arrived together at Last Exit. A few individual comments: @varunmehndiratta - nice 2nd lead. No pop out this time (for either of us) and a very accomplished drive. Thanks for all the digging. @Ashok chaturvedi - pretty much first out of his car on any refusal and ready to help. That was noticed and appreciated. It's the sort of teamwork that sets a great example. @Thomas Varghese - some good self recoveries and otherwise a well controlled and managed drive from your side. Tariq's loss was yours and the convoy's gain. @Gok Krish - Until the engine started playing up, it was all going very well. @Watteau - lives by the maxim of 'Always pass on what you have learned'. Leading from where ever you are in the pack. @Dodi Syahdar - the lack of comment from your side said it all: but maybe it was also the fact that maybe the strange radio was not working well enough? @Goutam - really nice drive today. Not the easist position in which to be in the convoy, and handled really well. @Kalahari - so good to see you back on a drive and benefit from your input and helping out. We really don't see you sufficiently regularly. @Niki - excellent sweep, excellent support, excellent communication. This is the Way. I really enjoyed the drive. So thank you all for making it so much fun. See you soon in the sand.
