Post Drive Report With the benefit of a few moments reflection and a brief snooze, this morning's drive goes down as one of the most fun. The drivers, the teamwork, the support, the weather: it all coalesced into a multi level sensory experience of sight, sound, vision and movement. OK - maybe that's a bit over the top, but it was a great drive. Entering Murquab in the dark we made the most of the gloom to enjoy an hour of night driving before the sun came up. I really had questioned my sanity in posting a drive to start at 4.30am, however, when you can add a night drive session in a long drive like this, knowing that the sun will rise and then the daylight fun can start. And so it did. Making our way through the dunes we found long range, technical and soft, soft sand. And then some technical dunes! Safely through this section we moved onto the Baja run. For some this was the first time, for others an opportunity to return, or an opportunity to scare the bejesus out of ourselves. We then made our way towards Last Exit. Normally, the route we take is to swing a long way West and then come back into Last Exit through the slip side of the long range dunes. As things were going so well today, and all drivers were really on form, I decided to shake it up a little and take a relatively untraveled route into Last Exit, through some small challenging dunes all of which had unexpected sand traps and pockets. The wind that has been howling around the last week and the rain that fell aplenty in Qudra had created multiple new challenges. Dune structures have changed quite radically, dune shape was altered and at times uncomfortable with massive ripples and bumps aplenty and there was a massive increase in the vegetation. The result, a final hour where no-one spoke: radio silence. This group of drivers is normally full of banter - indeed, there were as ever moments to true giggling hilarity in the early hours of this drive. So the radio silence was even more unexpected, or perhaps not. As a lead, that silence says that you've found the route that is challenging enough that the drivers are all giving it respect and focused on navigating through the challenges so we keep moving. And keep it moving we did, ending on an overlanding section that required our convoy to kiss the Qudra signs as we arrived back on to 'dry' land. Sorry that the bumper needs attention, but you knew that was coming at some stage! @Ranjan Das - your Rubi is in safe and secure hands and I can see that you are simply going to enjoy every second of this vehicle offroad. This is version 3 in which I saw you, and is by far the best. @Chinthaka Ruwan - a great drive from you today. Quite exciting to see your progress. @Lakshmi Narasimhan - you are the ultimate team player. It's great to have you on these drives. Always helping, always learning and never holding anyone responsible for what's happening on your drive except for you. @Niki - Saved me twice today as my tires seem to have become quite flatulent during the drive, and simply drove like a pro (as ever). How you limited yourself to 60kph on the longer runs is quite impressive. @Matt.T - love it when you come on one of my drives. The fact that there's not a lot heard from you (apart from when I know you licked up on one or two of the comments) says it all. @Alain Canivet-Abikhalil - since your first MC, to all the drives on which we shared since, your smile, enjoyment and excitement of being on the drives comes through load and clear. I am really enjoying watching how you improve drive after drive and as this was your first Fewbie Plus, amazing drive. @Jeepie - what can I say? Your support in everything (not just these drives) I cannot start to explain how much this is appreciated. Thank you for supporting the drive today impeccably and calmly as ever today. @Christopher Assal - your independent drives are showing through loud and clear in the improvement in your control and capabilities. It's becoming a man and machine in perfect harmony. @Watteau - perfect execution as sweep as ever. Quick as a flash with the banter. Quicker with help when needed. Thanks @Wrangeld for todays drive. Technical area you take us through, never escaped without a struck or at least a minor refusal, lots of learning which demands utmost concentration. I got inspired by you and started loving technical drives. Thanks @Watteau for fixing the popout and what a monster jack you have which doesnt require a board!!! would love to have that provided I find some space on my Pajero. Every one did really well except for few minor refusals mostly self recovered. Congrats to @Humayun Ghias for your first second lead, did very well!!! Thank you @Wrangeld, @Jeepieand the rest of the convoy for an amazing drive today. Due to the pairing strategy I got lucky to be as second lead for the first time. Really liked the experience and it kept me on my toes throughout the drive. I really enjoyed the night element and the technical aspects of the drive. Got to learn how to shovel a little better too! Had a little issue with my bumper but will now finally trim my bumpers. Looking forward to driving with everyone again!

@Enrico Biscaro I am only nearly 2 months old in the club, but I think the car's cooling ability should also be considered, especially in this hot hot summer. I drive pathfinder and in the current summer I do not use AC for either morning nor afternoon drives, because the coolant temp. will reach 100C if I do so. And I have seen similar heating complaints from other Xterra drivers (pathfinder and xterra are twin brothers). Similarly I have also observed few Wranglers faced heating issue that the ECU limits the Rev But not yet any Toyota (mainly FJs I have driven with) driver complained about car geting overheated that AC must be compromised. Xterra FJ and Wranglers are all power offroaders, and I have seen Marshals doing miracles with them, the above is only my opinion and I personally like Toyota a alot, altho I drive Nissan🙃

You only need tire deflator, gauge and compressor for your first drive. I will carry spare radio for absolute newbie drive that you can use. From the second drive onward you need: Safety flag, tire deflator, tire pressure gauge, shovel, fire extinguisher, medical kit, radio (walkie-talkie), air compressor. Let's start with having a look at the different Jeep Wrangler generations: Jeep Wrangler YJ The YJ (very difficult to find in UAE) was made from 1986 till 1995. I would not consider or recommend this model, mainly due to the lack of any comfort. A car from this era will also come with a guaranteed marriage between you and your mechanic Jeep Wranger TJ The TJ, made from 1996 till 2006 is an amazing offroad toy, mainly because it's so light yet so powerful (4.0 inline straight six engine). The ride to your offroad drive will be noisy, hot, bumpy, and uncomfortable, but you will forget all these things once you are in the desert. It is not so easy to find a clean one (not abused in the desert). Few members in the club like @Arman @Jeepie and some others can tell you all about the ins and outs. Jeep Wrangler JK The JK was made from 2006 until 2018. Two engine models were made, first the 3.8 engine which was relatively powerful but had a very poor reputation for being unreliable, and later the 3.6 Pentastar (2011 onwards I THINK). The 3.8 has around 200hp, while the 3.6 has 285hp. A big difference in performance. Most Jeeps are a bit prone to overheating, and you will see most owners adding some additional cooling fans or transmission coolers to keep this under control. Jeep Wrangler JL The JL still has the 3.6 Pentastar engine, and some improvements were made in comparison with the JK. You also need to consider the different trims: 1) Sport 2) Sahara 3) Rubicon The Sport trim is the most popular one, as it's the cheapest and keeps things basic on the inside. The Sahara is more suited to luxury, and costs quite a bit more, and then you have the Rubicon which is the ultimate off-road beast with front and rear diff lockers and other gizmos. Most people i have seen get the Sport model and then start upgrading / modifying from there as per their liking. You also have the Unlimited Series, these are the 5 door models. I personally prefer the 3door models but that is only a personal preference. If you start the search for a Jeep Wrangler, try to get a STOCK one that has not been modified or abused offroad. The reason is that you simply do not know what crazy stuff the previous owner has done, and it's simply not worth taking the risk if you can find a clean Wrangler that has spent most of its time driving to the mall. Finding a clean TJ is difficult, and some owners ask crazy prices. Due to the age you also have more risk to wear and tear (bushings, suspensions, etc..), but the engines are bulletproof and built to last. Many of us spend quite some time DIY'ing on our car or sitting on the couch of our mechanics, and the older the vehicle, the more time you will be spending looking for parts and fixing it. If you like that kind of stuff, then a TJ or YJ could be really fun. If you want to be hassle-free and have a powerful 4x4, i suggest you to have a look at the Wrangler JK models with the Pentastar Engine. Good luck !
