You see....we like to think we are clever engineers....but then....

7 out of 10 in the drive currently were in the last week's intermediate drive with @Ale Vallecchi. Just the Support Staff Changed and One grey Jeep with another.

I can agree with this!!! Feathering the throttle is quite tricky - Fuel consumption - 😆😆 - no one buys a Wrangler for its efficiency. Moving a building on wheels would probably have less air resistance than a Wrangler.

I have Hope for this one. Actually the real story is that I could not book me for a drive on Sunday at 7:00 so I asked my wife. She truly believes in me so she joined me fora higher grade drive...

"Really poor service" would be an upgrade from the usual service I've encountered over the past 20 yrs... Thanks tho, always appreciated 👍

@PaoloMaraziti, don't tell anyone, I drive in D (4H) most of the time, downshifting manually in very very rare occasions (not more than twice during this drive). The FJ is such a capable vehicle

I will leave you both on the drive for the moment because it looks like you both missed the classification and until we find another drive for you to attend at the right level. I hope you both understand the risks inherent in driving at a higher level. It's going to be very difficult for you, and/or frustrating for drivers that expect a slightly higher level of complexity if we need to bring the level down.

I had back back 4 drives till last one in which @Alain Canivet-Abikhalil was also there. That’s another record in my stats book.

I'm so happy about the increasing numbers of drives in Abu Dhabi and the open borders!!!! I can comfortably now not miss weekend drives whether I'm in Sharjah or AD. CAN'T WAIT for the drive!

Very well explained and true . In my opinion when you start to know you car behaviour as it is you will know how to handle it accordingly . However generally speaking no matter how stock or modified is your vehicle ( suspension , tune , tires … etc ) I believe while you are performing specific manoeuvre from A to B like long sidy for example bear in mind that you don’t have much time ( split seconds ) to play with while doing it ( gas , gear shifter , let go gas … ) and that’s why achieving the momentum ( trick : bit higher not much ) from the start and keeping it constant before the entry point will let you have time to navigate within the momentum buffer without loosing it . also flooring the gas paddle is seldom effective if you were not prepared ahead as the vehicle fluids response while in 45 degree inclination at long side or climb is totally different .

I have been using pedal commander for quite long time, it's very useful to control upshift and downshift by pedal only, and it brings rev up before a huge climb quickly. I have driven almost all Toyota cars available in the region, Toyota's pedal setting is really gentle, you really have to tame it by more aggressive daily driving, and understand the tricks to up and down shift. Few sequoia and LC 5.7 owner friends of mine are happier with their cars after using the pedal commander, without it their big 5.7's acceleration feel more or less like the v6 at streets. @PaoloMaraziti you can give a try, some vendors they let you try before purchase, and FJ's model should be the same to Prado/LC which are common in UAE

True, sometimes, it just "doesn't come" and you just contemplate your loss of momentum with frustration... In some cases i manage to overcome by lifting slightly the gas pedal, and then down progressively to avoid issue number two... but not always. I guess this will come with experience, this combination of anticipation, selection of the "line", and this magic touch with the foot...

So very true.. And I'm an engineer too... 😂😂😂

This will sound strange......however, when driving offroad I drive with both my feet. My right foot on the gas pedal and I brake with my left foot. I have learned how to control the gas pedal of the JK in such a way to keep my engine revolutions just on the right place to keep the gearbox from switching between 1st and 2nd when I need to do so. When I'm done climbing I simply release the gas or press it harder to force the gearbox to switch over. But this means that I have to listen to the sound of the engine also. It works well, and it also stops me from running into the ever irritating rev limiter which happens when the gearbox is forced into 1st on a uphill climb or long side slope.

I think this also depends on the driver style and preference specific to his vehicle trim for my Xterra i always drive on D generally regardless of the level of drive keeping D2 For long ridge riding or some tight technical where control is prime along with steering D1 for high climbs be it ascend or descend for better engine boosting or breaking

Is there a rule that when they are five or more people on a waiting list an Expert volunteers and organizes a drive ? We will treat him/her for dinner.

It's always your choice where and when you join. We will only make it to Little Sweihan on the drive on Friday in Dubai so if you want the real thing, then yes @Kailas is the only one offering that experience. With borders opening up again to AD, I think you can expect a lot of drives being posted in that direction as most of the marshals are chomping at the bit to move away from the areas to which we have been restricted for the last 18 months.

how do I RSVP to join this event?

With the tremendous increase in the number of COVID cases in the UAE, we all have to be responsible while off-roading. Failing to abide by any single precaution at any time during the drive, will result in an immediate ban from Carnity Off-road Club. ZERO TOLERANCE First offender - 1 Month Ban. Second offender - 3 Month Ban. Third offender - lifetime ban and report to authorities. COVID19 PRECAUTIONS 2.0 All Carnity off-road drives will be LIMITED to driving only: No Socializing and gathering allowed at any time. No break for taking photos, breakfast, smoking, etc. No exchanging of off-road or recovery gears. Wear a mask at all times, while outside your vehicle. For passengers restrictions, follow RTA or NCEMA guidelines. All passengers should be inside the car, at all times. Maintain a minimum of 2-meter social distance at all times. Sanitize your hands and recovery gear after use. PS1. If you and your passenger cannot sit inside your vehicle for 3-4 hours please DO NOT JOIN CARNITY DRIVES. PS2. A Member who has RSVP the drive is RESPONSIBLE and LIABLE for their passenger's compliance. PS3. The above precautions apply to everyone irrespective of their vaccination status or schedule. PS4. You can confidentially submit the photo of any offender by sending an email to [email protected]. How to comply Read the drive post before arriving at the meeting point, so that you know your convoy numbering and radio channel. Arrive at the meeting point and switch on your radio to the pre-set frequency of the drive. Stop your vehicle at least 10-20 meters away from each other. Deflate your tires, while wearing a mask, and then go back inside your car. All briefings will be done on the radio now, so pay full attention to a briefing for your own safety. After the briefing, fall in your convoy position just before the drive starts. While driving if you get stuck, announce on the radio and be inside your car at all times. Trip lead and/or support will guide you on the radio for self-recovery or tow-rope recovery. While there is a stuck or a refusal, everyone else supposed to be inside their car at all times. You can only take a bio-break during the drive, by requesting trip lead permission. Once the drive is over exit out to inflate by maintaining 10-20 meters distance from each other. While inflating, only the driver supposed to be out and with the face mask at all times. After the drive, you can talk on the radio for any feedback, suggestions or help you need.
