Let me start by thanking you all for your excellent spirit today and team work.. although it was short but you all did well and were developing quite fast responding to the challenges thrown at you.. then I’d like to apologize for the unfortunate event leading to cut the drive short and leave you back in the safe hands of@Hisham Masaad to lead to the exit as I had to help Vanessa’s convoy recovering the rolled over car.. thanks Hisham for this and for your usual second to none support. The rolled over car was successfully recovered out to the tarmac .. although engine and suspension came out untouched but due to the broken glass and specially the windshield the car couldn’t be driven on the road and had to be towed. The most important thing was that the driver and his family are safe and hopefully will see all of you back soon on the sand. thanks @Vanessa8580 again for volunteering to lead a second convoy today to ensure none of the WL were left without an opportunity to drive on the sand today. Thanks @Rob S for your amazing support all over the recovery and driving back with me and Vanessa to get her car out despite of the late time.. well done buddy.

Liwa Crossing IM Convoy Trip Report I Had a Dream by Martin Luther King. For many of the senior members at Carnity @Gaurav @Frederic @Asif Hussain and myself included, always dreamt of doing a crossing through the empty quarter. It's been on our agenda for more than few years, but every previous attempt ended in some sort of disappointment as we would encounter numerous oilfield and military fences. This time with some help from the AD Tourism Department and a lot of background research over the past 3 weeks a route was decided that would make us all Live our Dream. Liwa is the ultimate challenge for any UAE offroader, and those who participated in the crossing witnessed the most amazing terrain in it's majestic glory. Thanks to the detailed planning of @Frederic we had divided the entire track over 25 waypoints (WP) with plenty of scope to scale the level of the drive depending on the convoy response. After a thorough combined briefing of all the convoys, we set of in an Eastward direction. As soon as we reached between WP2 and 3, @Mus_hus78 unfortunately had a gear issue which was too much of a risk to continue in this terrain. Wisely, he decided that it's better to exit out. After exiting him, we again went back to the starting point and re-entered the sand. We made our way through the sabkha to WP3, from where we started making our way through the dunes. We made it close to WP 10 by around 1 pm when we took a break for lunch along with the FB+ convoy. The brief lapse in concentration after lunch showed as we had a few stucks and a difficult popout. We then encountered some beautiful spaced out dunes between WP 11 and 12 with lots of smooth bowls that allowed us to ride them and cross them at will. However the exit from this section proved to be the biggest challenge of the day. With only a narrow route available for exiting the going became exceedingly tough for the cars in the second half of the convoy. With some good inputs from some of the team members we tried some alternate routes and finally after struggling for more than 90 mins we finally found a way out. By then it was 4:30 PM, so we raced through the sabkhas clocking speeds of more than 110 km/h to WP18 where the FB and FB+ convoy had already arrived for the overnight camp. Camping in the desert under the beautiful stars is a wonderful experience, and with some great friends and wonderful stories we had a perfect evening. With still about 7 WPs to go, to hit the final exit track, we started off Day 2 at around 8 AM. The experience that we had gained from the first day showed during the second day drive as we all took better angles, kept the right momentum resulting in lesser number of refusals and stucks. By 12 PM we reached the road having completed a total distance of 203 km over a driving time of just above 13 hours. The entire course was pretty tough with sudden dips, powder soft sand, razor sharp ridges and insanely steep drops that required 100% concentration at all times. There were places that we could race up the dunes at 70 km/h and there were sections that we had to meticulously crawl ourselves through at 10km/h. As @Mario Cornejo mentioned at the end of the drive, this was a drive where all our recovery skills were put to the test. The drive also brought out an equally important point, that in these kind of drives your main strength is the team. There were numerous occasions when the entire team got together to find a way out of the situation To the entire IM Convoy of @Ranjan Das @Xavier Treasurer @Mario Cornejo @varunmehndiratta @Jorge Stepniak Felippe @Amir Amiri and @Ahab Shamaa you guys deserve a huge round of applause for some excellent driving in a very challenging terrain. There are only a handful of off-roaders that can state that they succefully completed a Liwa crossing and you are amongst them. A big shout out to the FB and FB+ convoys as well who were brilliantly led by @Frederic and @Gaurav for completing the entire crossing succesfully. A special mention to our AD expert @Asif Hussainfor all the help in the planning of this route. You were truly missed, but we look forward to doing this route once again together. I was dreaming of visiting the empty quarter for 3 years. seeing the huge dunes for the first time, the way it looks, the formation, the color, and for sure the unforgettable sound. it's truly an indescribable feeling. hello desert explorers. It was a real pleasure to meet you all and drive with you all today. Thanks to @Ale Vallecchi for joining and accommodating the waitlisted drivers. After a few drop outs and no shows we had a convoy of 8 cars and every one of you did a fantastic job. We had an eventful day out in the desert today with few refusals and stucks and a pop out to contend with and towards the end of the drive an extreme recovery to round off the show. We started off 15 mins late after the briefing and entered the desert attempting some long range mid sized dunes . The terrain was challenging with soft sands and bushy patches and minutes after the start we started getting few refusals. But it was all well managed by @MMansoor and @Pacific kept the convoy moving. Around an hour after the drive @ASAD. had a pop out , which was fixed in some time and we resumed the drive attempting many criss crossings , sideys and steep declines. Every one of you performed admirably. Towards the end we had to spent some time in recovering @Imran Kashif car which was stuck side ways in about more than 40 degree angle. The engine was turned off and secured by ropes in front and back from @Vaibhav car and @MMansoor car and exited the passenger. After a few minutes of shoveling the car was in a position to move by its own. Thank you @Vaibhav for being a wonderful and vigilant 2nd lead. You did a great job by keeping a very safe distance and by rerouting the convoy when ever needed. Did a great job in recovering the Prado. well done buddy. Thank you @MMansoor for keeping the convoy moving. You did great as CF today and was nice to see you coming out and instructing the the drivers. Keep it up bro. @Hisham Masaad thank you again for organising the Friday morning drive which I know you did so I could get to take my daughter out for a drive while she was briefly in Dubai. Though getting a little motion sickness near the end she throughly enjoyed it. As to the drive and convoy it was a pretty high level for a Fewbie + drive and you certainly took us on a roller coaster of a journey. I couldn't get the smile off my face! @Rob S great job as 2nd lead and of course @Thomas Varghese keeping my rear view mirror full and looking after the rear of the convoy. Great drives by all @Rsjiv Samuel @Gregory @Joji varghese and @Davie Chase Davie if you send me your WhatsApp i will send you some gopro footage.

@Shaaz ShaThank you for the wonderful drive and trusting me with being the 2nd lead. Its never the car its the driver and you showed it even after you did not have your no 1 car the X. The goals set in the start of the drive were very well achieved. We went through the same patch which had thought us a lot from our last weekend drive. Felt very proud of you going there and capturing it the right way. There were few refusals and one pop out. But the energy in everyone was good though out. I would like to point out 2 thing to everyone in the Convey. 1) Do not break the convey number. 2) Distance from front car is very important. many of the refusals that took place is due to less distance. @Sree - FortunerYour first fewbie drive but you did very well. with few more drive in fewbie you will be able to get a hang of the pace. @Imran Kashifall the way from AUH. drove exceptionally well and looking forward to AUH drives with you @Tareq Al Turqhope your uncle and child enjoyed the drive. thank you for getting down and supporting. @ASAD.Good driving buddy. thanks to you everyone got a chance to witness the fastest pop out removal. @MMansoor with the Big elephant and CF. Should I write about the drive or not? Big dilemma. What shall I write about @Ale Vallecchi's drive? Its always the best drives. Thanks to everyone for showing up on time and off on our way on time. The drivers in convoy responded well to the track laid out by @Ale Vallecchi. Beautiful clean sands and nice technical dunes for warm up. Everyone in the convoy performed very well considering their experience as FB. Never gave me or Ale any tense moments. Minor refusals and stucks which could be dealt with under supervision of Ale. Some pictures are posted in the gallery. Unfortunately not much as I was the support and the convoy didn't stop much due to driver's mistakes. Thank you @Vinod Damodaran, @Pascal, @Joseph Raju, @Jona & @Morshedi for the wonderful drive. See you all soon in the sands.

Thank you @Hisham Masaad for a very entertaining drive on Friday morning. It was really fast paced and I believe we covered over 60km in less than 3 hours through a route of climbs and climbs of the dunes of the Big Red area. Thanks @Rob S for a good 2nd lead today. Just now realized it was your 1st FB+ drive. To be frank you did just great. Not easy to be a 2nd lead at this pace through difficult terrain. Well done. @Joji varghese, @Rsjiv Samuel, @Gregory, @Davie Chase and old friend @Matt.T all did a good drive today. Never seen @Matt.T in trouble in all the drives we have driven together. When I saw the convoy order I knew I just have to follow his angle of approach. Well I had a crest situation after a long long time. @Hisham Masaad pulled me out gently and thank you @Matt.T for the help. Looking forward to see you all soon in the sands. Its always a pleasure to drive with all of you.

Good evening all, Thank you for joining the drive. It was one of the best drives I had driven. The initial plan was only to drive from Faqa to Murqab. But we had enough time to extend the drive to solar park. Many thanks to @Russ for supporting the drive. Everyone drove flawlessly that I could keep on stepping up the drive level. Special appreciation to @Rob S, who in spite of just having 1 FB+ drive experience, drove without any issue. Please find the stats below: It is very identical to the IM drives I had in the past. @Junaid120120 & @Fabien Monleau were no show for the drive. Please plan better next time as there were members in WL who had missed the opportunity to join the drive.

The plan is to start at Lisaili Fort and make our way into the beautiful tightly shaped baby dunes of Lisaili which will challenge our patience and skills before heading out to the famous Lisaili large dunes to play, rev your engines, and enjoy the roaring. Pre-drive details below: 1- Please be on time and bring all your passion for off-roading and pull as much as you can of yourself out of bed.. trust me you will need all of it. 2- Be at the meeting point by 7:00am (or before) and be ready to move max by 7:15am max (deflated, flag erected, 4H on, radio on and set, airbags/traction/abs all set....) 3- Please ensure your programable radio is on, fully charged and set to Channel 2 (446,031) for BLACKs and Channel 4 (446,056) for BLUEs 4- Briefing will be done on on the sand before we start moving 5- Please be prepared for a demanding drive which you will require your undivided attention.
