You have given both question and answer in your comment. One doesn’t need a 4 hr drive to judge a driver - if that is for a promotion to next level. Main objective is spot on ( considering this is a hobby for many) Forget the promotions , take your time to learn and then enjoy the levels as you progress with the challenges, involvement, attitude and the friendship as u get along. Heat is severe but that’s what makes you a better driver , once the winter sets in 😀.

Hi @Mike. it's a good suggestion, but mostly off-road never goes as per plan and that's the challenge we all love it. From a technical standpoint, 4 hour's drive time means: 30 min briefing and deflation 3 hour drive time. 30 min debrief and inflation. Now in that 3 hour drive time, moving time averages to 1.5 - 2 hours as the rest of the time required for sorting stucks and refusal, as you know we never leave stuck drivers behind and the whole convoy waits. Now trimming that 1.5 - 2 hours drive time won't be fair for the people who wait to get out for the whole week. As Sri mentioned to make sure all cars are happy and safe we only restrict driving in peak summer heat based on different timings for various months.

What a lovely day despite the heat and what an amazing route to negotiate , it really felt like the less travelled dunes in Lisaili at least for me. Thank you @varunmehndiratta for the choice and smooth ride. its nice to see new faces and catch up with familiar and old ones , and the most to see the children happy sliding the slopes. I am sure after todays drive every one has got one or two to take back home with big smile . Agree that the summer is quite severe on both us and our cars. We generally avoid being on the sand beyond 9 AM till about 4 pm (which is when the mercury is above 40 deg. C). Every lead has their own style of drives, but I think I can say on behalf of everyone that the leads start to move towards the exit by 8:30 AM, as incase if there is a major stuck after that the recovery conditions can be extremely difficult. Another option is that you could try out the twilight / night drives which we keep having on a regular basis. You dont need any special offroad lights to join these drives.

Hi @Carnity family. Due to the summer heat and all what it brings with it, is there a possibility to reduce the drive durations to 2.5-3 hours? i am opting out of summer drives as I don’t want to keep thinking about overheating issues nor the stickiness that comes with the extra heat. Thought of throwing this idea as food for thought because I would be willing to keep driving during summer between let’s say 5 am - 7:30 or 8 am for the coming period. The main idea is to keep driving under favorable conditions during summer rather than not driving at all. @Gaurav@Brette@Frederic@Srikumar@Hisham Masaad@Vanessa8580@Islam Soliman @M.Seidam(Sorry I couldn’t add all leads but just a sample I know to get the discussion going if the option is there) and all leads, what do you think ladies and gents ? One thing I can think of in case promotions and ranks are points of debate and standing in the way of implementing this then I would suggest that each 2 x 2.5 hour drives would count as 1 normal drive. The main objective and intention out of this is really to keep driving and enjoy the sport under favorable conditions.

Can’t wait to be on a drive with you, and to learn from your composure @Hisham Masaad - In helping me overcome my fear in climbing Al Faqa in a newbie drive last year, you taught me a lesson that would unlock every climb since then. I have not looked back and I hope I continue to borrow more from the lessons you have to teach. @Mario Cornejo- coming from you, that means a lot to me. Every time I think the Y61 can’t do something, I just remember the complete balance with which you pilot yours. Dear @Mike., valid, however I am afraid unavoidable. Considering the place we live in, and the hoppy we practice, which require sometime to depart and start enjoying, it is the minimum what can we consider. As mentioned by @Srikumar moving towards to the exit can start after 3 hours and 30 minutes from meeting time, to avoid high temperature. On the other hand, you will find it good that the extreme weather conditions are only about 2 to 2months and half, out do 12 months. If you go every weekend, that's about 10 drives where you will be put under different type of challenge. Unless you go for summer vacation, then you are saved 😊

I would have given better synopsis of the drive but unfortunately I was told to hold the convoy in possession( with no one behind me) for an hour to which I thought that i was pranked and left alone.🤣🤣🤣

Dear Sand Sailors Thanks a lot for joining in for the drive this morning. Got back home with all gears untouched, almost full battery on radio and a smile on face - couldn't have asked for a better convoy to sail through the challenges weather and lovely dunes at Lissali threw at us. We covered around 55Km at a good average moving speed of 24kmph - which speaks volume about how well each of you handled the challenges (and special credit to new FBs). Very well done!! Thanks to @M.Seidam for all the support and guidance and especially for couple of lovely sessions on self recovery. Thanks to @Ashok chaturvedi - undoubtedly the most reliable SL and also for volunteering to get stuck on the ridge 😂 so that we can learn the power of shovel... Believe it's first time over several drives that i have seen Ashok getting stuck, but then that's the beauty of surprises that nature has to offer. Thanks @RiaanJH for handling the responsibility as sweep nicely, well done 👍 - and that demo on criss crossing was just perfect. Thanks @Tom BB for being our pillar of strength and reliability at centre of convoy. You ensured that all refusals were smoothly handled without any major challenges. @Stan Hassett and @Zulfikhar Naiyar it was never going to be easy being the least experienced FBs in this convoy full of experienced drivers, however you both handled it very well with only some minor stucks and refusals. Also we had a chance to experience the importance of right deflation - especially with sand getting super soft in summer. You both handled your rides well and looking forward to drive with you both at higher levels soon. @KAMALIO and @Senthil Kumar we have driven togather many times and glad to see you both grow in confidence and skillset. You have the perfect rides for the sand and you handle them well. @Sam K another perfect drive for you - you are really getting great at ridge riding. Hope your daughter enjoyed the drive. @takeshi sobue brilliant drive today - was good to see control taking over from speed 👍😊 Looking forward to drive with you all sometime soon. When we started at 4pm the dashboard showed 48°C and felt the humidity in the air. After a informative briefing by @Gaurav we were off to route which was negotiating for the newbies & fewbies. @Yerem Davtyan this was your first time as 2nd lead and you did a great job, once you knew how to communicate you just did it naturally. Sharing the drive details is cherry on top. @Brett Eicher you follow the lead very well too!! @Lucas don't let the stuck and refusal worry you about the sport its just a part of this game. Once you get the hang of it, you will just keep wanting more of it. @MChatt89 you powered away on the churned track and make it look easy.. @Vanessa8580 you surprised by joining us after doing you morning run and yet filled with passion and energy. As centre forward you made the drive fun for us at the back end. @jeetu sharma you were calm and working thru the churned track which I created, my bad and kept up too the pace. @Zulfikhar Naiyar your X bumper looks the best i have seen. @salah2u thanks for the support and knowing you watching us from the back, kept the back end of convoy safe. Thank you. Once again I would like to say thanks to all for making the drive special. The last hour of the drive was fast and fun i enjoyed the most and the terrain was exciting and everyone worked as a team to make that happen. Thank you and see you'll soon.

Guys, we had an amazing drive this morning. Thank you for participating. It was a real « desert time », with beautiful sceneries, a lot of desert life, and virgin dunes. The route was far from easy, and either in the technical areas, or when surfing these fabulous high ridges, the full concentration of each driver was needed. We only had a few stucks that were quickly solved with team shovelling work, proof, if need be, of the excellent level of the convoy. Special thanks to @Alexanderrr as 2nd lead, watching my back, and holding or adjusting the route when needed. @RiaanJH @Naim Aoun, excellent drive for the Jeeps, @Mohamad Anwer, excellent support from the middle of the convoy, @Mark D, @Karthik Raptor, the raptor boys, very well done, in particular in the tech areas, @Beide Worku, thank you for the sweep, and congratulations for your first FB+. Thank you all for the excellent spirit during the drive, it was a pleasure to lead the group ! I can see pictures in the gallery already, thank you, and yes, these high ridges were beautiful, they will be in my eyes for the full week I think !

Please make sure your Carnity user profile is always updated with all the latest Emergency contact details. SUPPORT TEAM Pre-requisite 1) Minimum 10 any level "Carnity" drives are required after your Intermediate promotion. Once you decide to join Team Carnity to excel further with your off-roading, people, and commanding skills, you will be extensively trained by the whole Team Carnity from Expert - Marshal - Crew at various stages by supporting different levels drives. Stage 1 Support different Marshals and Crew at Newbie level drives to demonstrate: Your ability and willingness to support new offroaders. Ability to gain control of the commanding situations. And clear communication skills to help manage the convoy. Stage 2 (optional) Pre-requisite 1) Minimum supporting 6 Newbie/Fewbie drives per quarter (within 3 months). 2) Minimum 10 "Carnity" Intermediate drives are required within the last 6 months. 2) For progressing further to Advisor level, you need to receive a minimum of 4 different Marshals / Crew approval by supporting 4 or more Newbie drives, so that you can attain adequate exposure for bigger roles that come with more responsible and commanding tasks in the future. To learn and demonstrate your recovery and self-recovery skills. Help individuals to self-recover or use tow rope or winch recoveries. To demonstrate your convoy commanding skills in difficult situations. And people interaction skills to manage the convoy with clear communication. Once you receive 4 different Marshals / Crew approval, then you will be eligible for your Advisor promotion. Eligibility criteria: Maximum two rounds of 4 Newbie drives each will be assigned to you with different Marshals for demonstrating your skills, knowledge, commitment, and team player attitude. You must attain a full consensus of all 4 Marshal / Crew in either the first or the second round as a qualifier. Full 4 drives consensus need to be achieved in either round for you to proceed, else your promotion request will be rejected permanently. You may of course continue in the Carnity Off-road Club at your previous rank.

My testimony on this: Cause: My fan clutch was dying few weeks back so I replaced with a new one and topped the silicone up. Observation: The fan is much louder than before and ofc no more overheating now in the peak summer 😃😃😃, finally feeling what's like to be a Toyota owner but still flooring the mighty VQ40DE engine. The downside: is obviously a bit lose of power, (feel more like an additional ac compressor is working), fuel economy not sure because Pathfinder is no longer my daily. But it is nothing compare to solving the overheating issue permanently. Experiment on extreme condition: Did IM with Ale few days back climbing dunes in Badayer in the afternoon, with ambient temperature of 47c at the start, no obvious overheating issue except the coolant temperature reached 100c at the first climb, the rest of drive was cool and temperature never reached beyond 95c including climbing extremely softened iftar super bowls, and few minutes of 4low maneuver on a slope with no wind. And I don't think any drive can be more extreme than this drive. Additional benefits for Pathfinder is that the gearbox will not disable locking in low gears as the gearbox is cooler too.

Lisaili to Qudra: The Hot Stuff - Drive Report "Most people will not change when they see the light. They change when they feel the heat." - Rumi I did not have this Rumi quote in mind when organizing the drive. Nonetheless, perhaps the drive managed to "change", hopefully for the better, some of the members' driving habits, especially referring to hot whether conditions on soft sand. As @Sunil Mathew, @Joseph Sebastian, and @Paolo Pellegrini have already reported, all members interpreted the spirit of the drive to perfection, rising to the challenge posed by the heat of the later summer morning departure. The terrain selected for the drive went from quite technical at the very beginning, on the short and packed dunes left of Lisaili's camel track, to more open long range dunes, for most of the Lisaili plateau. Actually, having entered much closer to the camel track than usually, that is more to the north-east, the track proved ideal to cross mostly untouched dunes, in a southern direction, heading toward the sabkhas between Lisaili and Murqaab. This area was perfect for practicing side sloping, ridge riding and criss-crossing, with an uninterrupted drive, until a double pop-out stopped the convoy for a short while. The situation provided the opportunity to demonstrate the need for proper tools, such as a sturdy board and e hydraulic jack (2 tons min.), which I would recommend to any Fewbie and above, just for these kind of easily encountered occurrences. After resuming the drive, all went as well as expected, with a few detours from the usual track, and a minimum number of stops to solve some refusals and stucks (nothing out of the ordinary). Having reached the Solar Park area in good time, we all agreed to prolong the drive to Qudra's Last Exit. The new access to Qudra from the end of Lisaili's pylon track proved a bit tricky: the loose sand from the abundant road works, as well a a very bushy area led to a couple of complicated refusals, within a few meters from the tarmac. After solving them, we managed to enter Qudra's southern quadrant, driving shortly along the bike track, and then through the very long and open dunes, dotted with some nice bowls, between the bike track and the pylons. From there it took no time to zip north toward the Last Exit. @Sunil Mathew, which I thank very much for both his role as Anchor, has already been very explicative in his report of the drive's main takeaways report, so I will not linger with any further recommendations. I thank @Andrew McCarthy for his clean Second Lead, @TT_Dubai for his Sweep, and @Joseph Sebastian, @Imran Kashif, @Paolo Pellegrini, @Federico Galbieri, @Gurcharan Mehta, and @Gerrit Bus for joining and bearing the heat of the drive. As intended, the heat did not take anything away from the drive. The itinerary covered 80 Km. in 2:46 hr of driving (out of total of 4:23 hr), moving at a very brisk (better...hot) average speed of 29 Km./hr. See you all soon in the desert.

To me a beautiful and successful drive is when I return home from the drive full of energy and excitement with a great memorable day to cherish. And that is exactly how I felt today!
