Drive report: A drive which had flavors of almost everything one can expect. Pop-outs, stucks , refusals, winch recovery, car failure, tyre stem valve leaking, flat tyres, convoy getting lost, broken flags, no flags, car getting tugged out of the desert. The terrain was amazing and the convoy strong. Yet, proving Murphy’s law is what we ended up with. Brilliant driving by @Simon Dawood following my moves rerouting when necessary even without guidance. You guys responded well with every challenge thrown your way.. well done @James Thorn @Thomas Varghese@Chris Wing @Mohamad Anwer @Daniel Yang @Zed thanks for the valuable support @Pacific @Ashok chaturvedi And @Zed for carefully tugging the X out to the tarmac. At times I could sense the exasperation brewing up however I thankyou all for the patience. That’s what makes each one of you a true off-roader. in the end, we all got in and got out safely, and that’s what is the most satisfying aspect for the convoy. kudos! I will see you all again on sand , probably on the same route again next weekend. Have a great weekend. just to update you all, Thomas’s car is being taken on a recovery to his garage as I write this report. He will let us know what happened exactly!

Thanks Dr. @M.Seidam, I have to split it over 2 sessions to watch the whole thing This reminds me of similar "lifetime ATF concept" that I first hear from my friend who owns a Dodge. When I first hear this, I was surprised since most mechanics recommend changing Automatic Transmission Fluid every 40,000kms or if used just for going to office maybe can extend to 80,000kms. And to add more salt, these "modern lifetime transmissions" don't come with dipstick to check ATF level or quality After some discussions, I realize that what dealers nowadays mean is "lifetime of your car loan / car ownership" which is usually 4 years and people usually sell their cars before reaching 100,000 kms. After this 4-5 years/100,000kms the dealers are hoping you'll get their latest version under-warranty and repeat the cycle again Now back to the Engine Oil topic, hmm if what he says is true that "Dealers put the cheapest oil to save cost, even Toyota dealers" (since he's ex-Dealer mechanic), then we need to worry about our 10,000km oil change. There is no such thing as 5,000km vs 10,000km oil, there is oil with different viscosity level (e.g. 0W-40), liter size or quarts, and Mineral, Semi-synthetic and Fully-synthetic. Usually when mechanics refer to 10,000km oil it means the Fully-synthetic as "it can last more" and slower to degrade over time and usage. And so, if dealers pick the cheapest, that would not be the most expensive fully-synthetic, which means you're not getting that "10,000kms oil" 😂 Ok now as to when best to change oil... 5000kms is a better interval 10,000 for sure. But as regular offroaders who may go once-a-week (or twice a week!), we should learn what a drop of engine oil on paper means 👇 (use the dipstick to get a good drop and let it absorb on paper for a while) Once it gets Dark and "Middle-condition" quality, time for an engine oil change, even though you've just reached 4,000kms! Even worse, if the shape is not round, means you have some water contamination there 😦 As for the Viscosity, usually best to refer to Owner's Manual, most will refer to 5W-30. But with the knowledge that higher load + higher temperature will make the oil thinner, and that owner manual is written for "general usage of cars" + "one average setting that can accommodate worldwide situation", we can opt for something thicker like 40 or higher. The reason is we're trying to avoid this boundary lubrication, where the oil is too thin that the metal to metal starts touching and causing wear & tear. There's an oil film between bearings and crankshaft, and if the oil is too thin too often, causing metal-to-metal friction will certainly lead to Engine Rebuild like in the shared Youtube So my personal opinion is to get 5W-40, 10W-40, 15W-40. If you have a supercharger and climbing Sweihan every week may want to try 20W-50 for staying thick at high load + high temp

Welcome back @Wade Pat2 330 from 230 stock (I guess) is almost a 50% gain, sweet. Looking fwd to seeing it in action soon. Don't listen to Zeddy for IFB climb, I'll give you a better offer - Faya right side from the ridge, lol. Just kidding. Of course, do your prelim test and work out on kinks and you will have the whole winter to enjoy climbs.

Another thing I rem to highlight is that in the video mechanic got the short block from Toyota easily because of two reasons. First, its US serves a huge market, second its Camry - is a workhorse, and flagship famous model of Toyota. I tried sourcing brand new engines from Habtoor and even Mitsubishi Japan and their repetitive answer was NO. I really doubt all car manufacturers supply replacement engines after 5 years of production date. Not only Dodge, but many car brands also do this on purpose to maximize profits. No, if you confront the dealership which I did when they kept saying sir it's a premium oil for a lifetime, bla bla bla. What they mean is a lifetime of transmission. That's where from 2010 ish onwards many manufacturers removed dipsticks and start selling thousands of tranny to an average joe by calling transmission itself is replacement part and not serviceable anymore, as it's sealed for life. Some dealers do that. I sent my Pajero to Habtoor (long back) for major service and spotted that after 1200 kms strange tappet noise started coming. So I dig deeper and found that they have used LUKOIL worst grade engine oil. Left Habtoor and straight went to Mobil 1 and the loud tappet noise went away in 10 seconds. I couldn't agree more here, for offroaders 20W-50 thickness is very safe BUT provided you use fully synthetic oil and not just mineral oil. With high load and temp mineral oil won't last more. Sadly in UAE, very few companies sell 20W-50 or 40 grade (still acceptable) in a fully synthetic blend. Amsoil, Redline and Royal Purple are a few that offer this spec for motorsport enthusiasts.

You will never stop learning because desert never stops teaching Every drive is a chance to learn something new, it doesn't matter which level it is. I joined the Newbie drive today and in my mind it will be an easy chilling and relaxing drive, then @Gaurav threw the bomb in my pocket and decided to make me his second lead , which means I won't enjoy watching the Convoy crossing the Dunes, But the biggest advantage is that I'll have another chance to watch the leader and learn how to read the Dunes and how choose the best crossing points. The surprise when i got refusal on a very small dune and when i see my self and other fewbie and fewbie plus drivers sloping and struggling on a very easy dunes The reason why as our boss said "Because the older drivers getting over confident" 😀😀 So my decisions after today's experiment is i should join lower levels drives at least once a month to keep learning and to be more confident on all off road drives Thank you @Gaurav for this chance to learn, and for guidance and support, i really learned a lot from you. Thank you @Anish S for always stepping up and helping the Convoy in every single situation, and @Morshedi for sweeping the Convoy and keeping eye on every driver. @Luke Johnson & @Thejas Uthran it was amazing seeing you in my mirrors crossing the Dunes And thanks for everybody else, i didn't get the chance to drive closely enough with you but you did it guys 👍👍 Thank you all, see you all again on the sand 🌵

They both are in Ale's PM drive with conflicting timing, that's why WL system didnt move them to calendar.

The convoy is strong and I am sure we are going to have loads of fun! we will be using channel 3. Would be easier to strip interior and loose all the extra weight then to make more power I think . You know me, I'm good on newbie and fewbie rides. Only put all this work and hp into it as a project. Could blow tomorrow for all i know. Still ready to try just need short easy ride to make sure kinks all worked out first.

We have to test it in Iftar Bowl from the middle straight-up instead of from the sides to see if the 300hp is enough or need to boost more

Finally back in Dubai from leave. Still have small issue I need to fix with Sub tank fuel pump but that is really all. Its a lot of new untested parts to bring in the the summer heat. Dont want to ruin a whole ride for everyone with a broken car. Will try to find a way to test it off the road but close to road just incase. Want to gain some confidence in the car before putting alot of pressure on it. Small update to above performance. As I fine tune ECU and also upgraded exhaust the HP is now 330+ hp to wheels at 5k rpm and 365 wheel torque at 4k rpm.
