  1. Thanks all for RSVPing for the drive - it really went off and over subscribed super fast, with a good mix of rides and riders. We have a perfect convoy for the theme of this drive. Murquab and Lisali area offer a very good platform for a fast paced drive through long range dunes as well some crazy maneuvering experience over tech dunes, ensuring a perfect setting to enjoy the weekend on sand. I will share the final details of the drive later in week, in due course, a humble request to all - we have 7WL drivers, so anyone who has a change of plans or is not sure to make it for the drive, please update the RSVP well in time - we don’t want to be losing slot while others are waiting. Thanks again for your positive response to the drive, looking forward to see you all this weekend. 2. The AOR flag pole is heavy on its own suction cup . If you are looking for quick put and remove with the same mechanism ( suction / vacuum ) then I didn’t find more easier faster secured than the sticky wipes from Ravon . I have it for two years and no issue at all . Otherwise you can fabricate the Mount for more security as Frederic or Gaurav noted .

  3. Hi @L. Petelczyc As @M.Seidam mentioned with metal on metal be cautious of thread issue. Have tried multiple options - one that has worked best is metal mount with a quick release flag holder.. aor flag split type or flexi type has regular issues with thread, small thread cap with heavy flag - I went to off road zone and they had really good flags with long thread pins. Used 2 aor flags in a year (split types) lost threads and have been using off road zone one for more than a year now with quick release has been going good. Again no right answer, soln that worked for me has failed for many.

  4. Thanks @Frederic @Gaurav @M.Seidam. Will go for the steel mount. Seems like it comparable price to the suction caps and won't have to think about it again. Cheers👃

  5. You can use the two-cup suction handle from any hardware shop and clamp the flag on the center handle with a metal clamp for pipes. I made this setup for my wife's Trailblazer after breaking the AOR suction flag mount. Alternatively, you can get the proper flag mount fabricated from any offroad garage / fabricator that will last forever. I recently got one and mounted it on a spare wheel housing.

  8. Most welcome. Not encouraging or discouraging but all choices has it’s own advantages and disadvantages. One of the disadvantages of metal on metal ( pole and mount ) by time the threads will become loose and you need regular cleaning and lubricating not mentioning the screwing . On the other hand for the simple sticky wips it’s light easy to stick and unstick by pulling the nipple of the rubber cup . However this rubber gets stiff with time and to prevent the rubber from not holding additional spray of water 💦 as I am doing now helps a lot . it’s totally a personal preference and taste . all the best and see you soon in sand

  9. Hey Luke, Have a look in below topics: If you become a regular offroader it is easier to get an offroad fabrication shop to fabricate a decent metal bracket. @Gaurav got one installed recently and is super sturdy.

  10. Drive Plan Dear Sand Sailors, have you ever been crested on top of a dune? These magical treacherous curve on dunes have bewitched the best of off-roaders. "Its not about avoiding getting crested but what you make of it once crested, that define you as an off-roader" - Varun, Circa 2023. 🖖🤘 Some tend to panic, some wait for guidance and some enjoy the moment by clicking some nice pics - for me, being stuck on top of a dune is step towards Inner peace - its the point when i am not only far away from the hustle of daily life but also alone on a dune away from the rest of the convoy. Those epic moments, before the support team and rest of convoy jump in with their instructions/shovel, offer a perfect time to find some inner peace in one of the most soothing ambience. Snapshot of my recent ventures with this Inner Peace (observe the calm alignment to the the contours of the dune - mesmerizing, isn’t it 😀😀). Thanks @Naveen Raj for the nice click. Through this drive - we plan to transverse through the treacherous dunes around Murquab and Lisali - criss crossing, going up and down and ridge riding all the way - with one and only one agenda - providing the convoy with the ultimate chance to either test their maneuverability through these beautiful curves or experience the bliss of being crested. Our maxim for this drive - may there be peace within you, around you and peace all over the world. ☮️ 🖖 General Overview We request every member that joins this drive to go through the below information and strictly follow these guidelines, etiquettes and responsibilities. 11. Any better options than the AOR suction flag mount for a removable product?? This aor suction cup survived 3.5 newbie drives before the plastic housing snapped in half.... Using the normal (i assume) aorb two piece flag. Thankyou for your tips.

  14. @Gaurav thanks for a great afternoon out in the dunes, It was really enjoyable to get to see so many new and to reacquaint with some not so new faces. the drive had a little of everything and I thoroughly enjoyed my afternoon and of course learnt a bunch more tips and tricks. @Tom V you did an excellent job as second lead following Gaurav's instructions accurately and timely, well done. @Rob S fantastic support at sweep mate made my CF role easy. the rest of the convoy drove like pros and knocked it out of the park. you guys were amazing and i cant wait for our next desert adventures together. @Parliament @Sami Sleiman @Misha Puskar @george charbel @Mark Gladiator @Patrick van der Loo @Joseph Raju @salah2u Remember the stucks and refusals are how we all learn, for those that have them it is learning the self-recovery techniques, for those supporting and watching it is learning how to recover a stck vehicle safely and timely. thanks for your patience during the few that we had and hope you all learnt as much as I did. till we meet again in the dunes

  16. @munkybizness you are correct - this is the cluster I have in v6 LC200. Thank you for the knowledge share.... I only feel difficulty in under ground parking with low light during day time, otherwise it's fine.... I have seen instrument clusters turning ON on engine start during day time for old Corolla and Accords.... But this was bit of a surprise in LC200 and I thought it could be a problem with my car only.

  26. @Varun Mehndiratta when I saw the description for this drive I knew I had to be part of it. I’m m somewhat of a cresting connoisseur, with a speciality in cresting particular ridges. Not the mega, big , medium or small, no i specialise in the ones that you can step out of the vehicle take two steps down to the base of the mound and marvel at how the car is indeed crested perfectly in the middle of the chassis with the wheels almost touching the base of the dune. looking forward to the inner peace ✌️

  28. @Bravoecho How dark is your cabin? There is very little active useful information on my dinky little LCD readout save total ODO, Trip A, Trip B and a clock that my beater Casio is milliseconds more precise at. As for the speedometer, RPM and fuel gauges, they are all inversely designed with white markers and red needles/hands to aid visibility. It might be time to see an ophthalmologist instead if you're squinting at these gauges. 😎

  30. @MisterPoet - most older cars do not have their LCD displays backlit if the headlights are not on. My 2021 Nissan Patrol Y61 officially ended production in 2016 and then continued in selective countries in the Middle East & Australia. Even though my car is technically from 2021, it hasn't been meaningfully updated in over six years. My LCD cluster also doesn't light up unless I turn on my headlight. European & North American spec'd cars usually had daytime running lights regulation especially due to inclement weather conditions and pedestrian safety. This meant that many automakers in the European and North American markets would have cars that had light-sensors which would automatically turn on headlights in dark environments. When I lived in the US in 2006, even my Civic had auto-headlights that honestly annoyed the hell out of me because there was just no reason to keep them running when the skies just got a little bit grey. Imagine driving with oncoming headlights throughout the day. Over time, this was replaced by smaller Daytime-running-lights altogether which found a more elegant and less bothersome use of the primary headlight. If you do not have a European or North American spec automobile, the chances of your car having these features in the mid 2000s is unlikely as these regulations did not all come into effect everywhere at the same time. I've tried to pull an image of a Land Cruiser GXR 2013 from image search, and this is what I've found: If your cluster looks exactly like this, and you're referring to the little LCD readout that has ODO information on it, this will not turn on during the day unless your headlights are on. There is no defect in your car.

  31. Oh Man what an amazing weekend , camping was an absolute blast the night before with @Hisham Masaad @Abdelghani and @Mohamad Anwer including the time we spent driving in the desert looking to find a camping spot ( Not Dune Bashing !!) 😅😁. thanks guys for the great company ... @Varun Mehndiratta thanks for preparing such a drive ,i loved how we spent most of the time ridge riding , regardless over 200+ Meters or not i had to keep pushing it to the max especially having @Hisham Masaad only a few cars behind me with the stick in his hand , as this time he was yalla pushing us from the back 😲😰😅😂 @Naveen Raj well done as a SL , you drove your Pajero amazingly well. @MMansoor i hope your bumper is fine and it can be fixed easily @Beide Worku i was a bit worried at the beginning that you might have broken something serious when i have seen your car smoking . but man i was so relived to know its only the hose ( which was engineered to fail anyway 😂) am sorry for what happened and i hope fixing it will not cost you a fortune @Gertjan its always a pleasure driving with you buddy and thanks for the nice clicks @Gerrit Bus impressive handling of your long car . @Tareq Al Turq you have drove amazingly well my friend , i can see that using some new techniques paid well 😉 @Mohamad Anwer i am so glad after so many months you are back stronger and confident than ever . @Ranjan Das we missed you in shwuaib , but i was glad to see you on this one @Vaibhav its always great to drive with you man. @Waqas Parvez and @ASAD. that way your beast Prado's are torching the sand is just breath taking looking forward to see you all soon in the san

  32. @M.Seidam thank you for the fantastic night drive, it was an absolute blast and really enjoyed it, we had a few refusals and stucks but that all adds to the learning and fun. great to see @GauravSoni joining us at the last minute, and I echo docs comments ref your instructions to @Tharun Kumar V for recovering his sideway crest patience was indeed the key to getting him off the crest with self recovery and safely. @Imteeaz great sweeping role well executed my friend always reassuring having someone with our knowledge and skill at the rear of the convoy. @Krishna R you executed the second lead brilliantly moving us left and right where needed and stopping when instructed keeping us all safe well done. @Ahmad Nerat@MohamedSherif@Ishak@rohit kumar @Tharun Kumar V@Pranjal Varsani1and @Ahmad Nerat you guys drove extremely well, some of you on your first night drive, but you would not really have known it. fantastic effort by all that of course makes our jobs so much easier to support you all. thank you all and see you all again very soon in the sand

  37. I will join the chorus and congratulate + thank you @Varun Mehndiratta for the super drive you led last Saturday. it was virtually a nonstop, highspeed, heart thumping and exhilarating drive from the word go and kudos to you for keeping it at that fluid level throughout the time we were driving. It was nice to see the entire convoy bringing their A games – absence of refusals and/or major stuck was testimony to everyone’s skills, focus and resilience. thank you @Hisham Masaad for the support. Your presence in any drive lifts the mood and morale of the whole convoy to another level and Saturday's was no different. @Beide Worku - trust your ride is all sorted without much hassel and is fit for the adventure awaiting us coming weekend - hope to see you there. @Naveen Raj @Gertjan @Vaibhav @Simon D @Tareq Al Turq @Ranjan Das @Mohamad Anwer was nice meeting you gentlemen; your company made the drive even more exciting. My adventure continued a bit longer. In my rush to rush home pushing my dear jeep on the expressway around 130 kmph; was about to reach Al Faqa when my front right tyre gave up. Spent couple of seconds in 1. realising what just happened 2. to keep the jeep steady and the toughest part 3. to steer the jeep on to the left kerb in evering speeding traffic. Those were some anxious moments - thankfully i and my jeep were safe. Most probable cause as per the guys at the shop was the tyre taking a beating or going over a nair/barbed wire - well that's history as my girl has new pairs of shoe to sport and one spare too . Most thankful to @Waqas Parvez and @ASAD. for stopping and extending their support - thank you guys and really appreciate the gesture. Eventually had to get a ride for my ride to end the ride - that's perhaps overdoing a bit ... already looking forward to the next one!
