  1. Despite that the alarm went off to disturb my nice deep sleep and pulling me out of my warm comfy bed, I'm glad that I went today. The highlights of today: Thank you @Srikumar to lead the drive and @Emmanuel to split the drive and make it a bit more challenging for the people that were driving behind him. @Gaurav demonstrated how to shovel correct, very informative. I drive regular with friends during the week, when some of us get stuck, the first tool we grab to, is the rope. I doubt if one of my friends knows how to shovel correctly, instead of just displacing sand. This is a great example how valuable a driving club is. This will be luggage I'll take with me for the rest of my life. (And yes, I am one of those that goes alone to the....🤐) He also demonstrated how to fix a popped tire. Good to see the importance to carry the correct tools and the knowledge of your own car. This got me thinking, if it will happen to me, where I should jack my car. (opening my user manual 🧐) Not to forget @Shamil, the backup bone of the drive. And last but not least, @Rahimdad. He didn't participate with his own car, but treated us with his pancakes. What is the name of the recipe? Unfortunately I had this time no one next to me to make pictures of the drive, and I was too lazy to mount my gro-pro. Next time again. @Halit Mert IsseverLooking forward to your new Go Pro footage! See you in two weeks.

  2. Thanks everybody for the nice drive. Good people, good fun and good tips. I'll have to drop my spoon and get a real shovel, too. See you soon on the sand. Ale

  3. I want to thank the managers of the Carnity off-road club for having dedicated most of their Fridays to provide people like me a healthy way to enjoy our weekend. I specially want to thank brothers @Rahimdad and @Gaurav for their company and participation despite being handicapped of their fond vehicles. Hope the two 4x4s get well soon! Having one of the two gurus , @Rahimdad, in my car was very exciting as I had access to a great source of desert driving knowledge. Although, I feel guilty of not offering him my vehicle to drive but it was basically to take advantage of every minute of his experience and guidance during this rare opportunity. Overall Carnity has always been a very encouraging group of off-roaders who have helped me get over some of the initial fear of this unknown terrain. Today gave the opportunity to all of us to experience a simple method of recovery from a crested situation as well as the parameters required to solve a pop-out. I request the Carnity team to document these two processes step-by-step along with the safety aspects whenever they get time. On hindsight I wish with someone had recorded the two processes 🤔 A big thanks for the rest of sand riders who gave us good company, see ya soon! A special acknowledgment to @Srikumar for choosing an exciting route that had optimum off-road learning experiences for the newbies and fewbies.

  6. @Xaf structure is not supposed to make anyone wait for others as it's not a queue system. Every offroader gets their independent offroad rank based on their driving skills first and secondly based on their participation and teamwork mentioned in the structure matrix. I have observed you closely today and was impressed with your driving skills, same I have conveyed you twice. Let me make a recommendation for your fewbie promotion with other seniors who have observed you in your previous 2 drives and will get back to you in a day or two.

  7. For me it has to be getting hit from behind. You get stuck in a phantom traffic jam, put your hazard lights on. When you look in the rear view mirror you see someone closing up fast behind and think shit shit shit I hope this guy is going to see me and stop in time. Getting hit from behind has to be one of the worst things ever. Your whole day gets ruined because someone else wasn’t paying attention to the road then you lose so much time trying to get your car repaired when it wasn’t even your fault.

  8. With my previous car I used to be in the fast lane all the time, and got anxiety attacks every now and then from all the people lane swerving and tailgating. With my 20y old car now, I take one of the middle lanes, switch on cruise control, and launch an Eagles’ album. 🎶 Take it easy !!!!! 🎵

  9. Since it’s a simple job I asked the small workshop in Al-Quoz where I go to wash my car : Toolsa. Actually the Egyptian boss seems to be a good reliable mechanic. He usually works on classic cars.

  10. I used to be scared of police before. In my country they will pull you out of the car and beat you up for fun. I can show you the broken fingers to testify. In UAE I have always found the police to be decent and helpful and willing to listen to both sides of the argument. If you’re not doing anything illegal there’s nothing to worry about.

  11. Hi all, I respect the structure and appreciate the values of the club. Unfortunately I can't participate every Friday, beside that I drive regularly during the week with friends. According the structure I am a newbie. I don't want to jump over other people, but to keep the drives a bit challenging for myself, I ask kindly if I can join next drive a Fewbie drive. Just to keep it interesting for myself. Don't know how to raise this question, that's why I hijacked this topic.

  12. 1. Two days ago I flushed my Xterra radiator (refilled with Nissan OEM coolant) 2. I noticed this afternoon that my gas mileage DECREASED about 20% So I was just asking myself : could 1 be the reason for 2 ? Could it be related in a way or another ?
    1 point
  13. Even I am curious as to how this affected it... But if I were to guess maybe the Engine is running cooler with the new Coolant hence the ECU isn't having to compensate combustion cylinder cooling with the use of extra fuel (AKA running a bit leaner)? The only way I can relate the two.

  14. I made a mistake in my first message, so edited right now : gas mileage decreased (not increased).

  15. I agree with this, especially when you’re heading back from Badayer shops after a drive and on the way back from the U - Turn everyone’s crossing on a 120 road. @Gaurav the flashes are another thing but after the days of me doing stupid things when I first got my license I just set the cruise to 109-110 and relax while driving. You save yourself 600 dhs and you can actually enjoy driving without being stressed. The best is Jumeirah road on fridays, just set the cruise to 50-60 and enjoy your Karak from Koukh 😁

  16. Is one of your friends @shadow79. He has the same excuse. His children will not listen, they cry, they come loose any which ways. I had my heart in my mouth when he had the roll over with his little kid. Hope we can change the world one person at a time starting with our family and friends.

  18. I'm way over those scare days when a reckless driver would be swerving around lanes or people who overtake me from the right or the big overloaded heavy trucks trying to get there yesterday. But my heart still skips a beat when I see pedestrians crossing the road or the bike guy trying to avoid idiots on the road. If a car gets banged its just an object which can be repaired or replaced, but life and limbs are priceless.

  19. Drain coolant from rad. Fill with water, drive around, flush, rinse and repeat for a few times until only water is coming out. Then refill with coolant. And you think if you go to "someone" they will flush it out? They will also just drain the rad and refill from top and be done with it

  20. How to get rid of coolant inside the engine jacket?

  21. Flushing coolant is an easy DIY job, why go to anyone. Thinking of my doing my ride over the weekend.

  22. WOW, I also like to know if it's related but I highly doubt. Btw, please share the coolant flush contact as I also need to flush my whole cooling system and refill.

  27. Now that is news @Atif bhai. Howcome only cow dung will do the trick, I take a dump every morning too, how is my dung different than the cow dung? Just thinking about the smell from the car, would it be in a drive-able condition with the stink from the fuel. I guess we will have to wait till 2021 to find out more.

  28. Thanks a lot for your step to step process, The noise is gone after the above process as for above quote from you, how you are irritated by the people who don't want to pay for good service same way people like me are fed up of mechanics who take money but don't solve the problems. Most of the mechanics can't find the exact cause of the problem rather they replace everything which might cause the problem. In above case below are the answers which i have received for mechanics. Mechanic 1 - This is due to AC vent blocked, Cleaning the AC vent pipe Mechanic 2 - Water is clogged in Heater , we need to open the Whole dash board and bleed the water out Mechanic 3 - This is common problem in Pajero's , Cut the heater and make it direct and all of above charge very premium amount for their services. Once bitten twice shy

  29. Just running the engine won’t work. This is the bleeding procedure, you can do it yourself at home if you have a 12mm spanner or socket. Make sure the engine is cold. Don’t try it on a hot engine or you will get scalded and it won’t work properly. Open the radiator cap. Depending on model, your car will have either one or 2 bolts on top of the thermostat housing. If it has 2, remove the lower one first. If it has 1, remove it and leave the top one. Pour coolant into the radiator. Keep pouring until only pure coolant comes out the hole, no bubbles. There is no harm in pouring extra coolant in to be sure. If you have one bleeder bolt and you are sure no air is coming out, put the bolt back in and top up the radiator, job finished. If you have 2 bleeder bolts, once you are sure no air is coming out, close the lower bolt and top up the radiator. Then open the top bolt and repeat the process. I shouldn’t even have to post basic stuff like this online. Any mechanic should know this. But here in uae there are so many shitty mechanics who have no idea what they are doing but they charge low prices so people run to them even if they don’t know what they’re doing and it’s because of cheap customers chasing cheap incompetent mechanics I refuse to work on cars now. If someone offers me 1,000 dhs an hour to fix a car I won’t do it. If you make your bed you have to lie in it. Competent mechanics who charge for knowledge have negative reviews posted all over google because of price.

  30. To be totally honest I don't remember that incident. And yes Discos torque which starts from very low rpms and pretty much stays level throughout the rpm band makes it a tough offtoader. Even after many years of driving it it would occasionally surprise me. Like a drive in wagan ( anothe one of those private drives ) I was following PR on his quad badger. We had to cross over a big wall of dunes and there was a little dip on top between the peaks so he chose to go through that. He went across and I went after him after completing ty climbing instead of a ridge there was a tiny but deep bowl on top between the dune peaks and I had no choice but to go into it. It's sides were steep and twice or thrice the height of my car. If I bent down I could barely see the edge from the top of my windscreen.and maybe 5 feet space in the back and front. I knew I wasn't getting out of it easily and without help but I sais what's the harm in at least trying once. So I backed up as much as I could in the tight bowl which wasn't much and then just mashed the pedal. AND LO and behold. The thing slowly like a tank on tracks climbed up the wall and over the edge to the other side. I saw the look on PRs face, his jaw firmly on the floor and then realized so was mine! Just couldnt believe what had just happened !!! Ayoubs XJ was next followed by a TJ wrangler needless to say we spent sometime trying to help those cars go through this bowl. So back on topic the most fun I've had was in nom club drives and new to me areas. Like when me Sikander bhai in his TJ and ayoub in his XJ went for a full day exploration drive from marqaub to lisaili. Hitting the small technical dunes first to get to the shade of the trees for some lunch. Then checking out the sandstone formations and then hitting the big dunes to end the drive. Or my first drive to sweihan once again with two XJs. Almost flipped on that one as I got stuck on a very high and very sharp ridge. With the ridge going from the center of the car front to back. Was ridge riding and got bogged down in soft sand. And while trying to reverse it started to tilt dangerously to one side so had to anchor it to one of the XJs on he one side and slowly crawl back. And many such drives. Yup got to agree, 8-10 drives over a span of 2 yrs is nothing.

  31. Mitsubishi Montero Sport Mitsubishi focusing more on SUV's now, because those are the cars people want, and Mitsubishi needs its profits in 2019. The new Montero Sport is its flagship vehicle. It is a highly capable and advanced machine built to take on Mother Earth’s unpaved territory. While the Pajero/Montero cars held their own off-road among the Jeeps and Range Rovers of the world, this one is also a comfortable, spacious cruiser that breaks no sweat even with a full load of passengers and cargo. On the outside this car has design cues common with the new Eclipse SUV – the thick chrome ‘P’ under the headlights and the bonnet-line. The front is very urban-SUV, a departure from the Pajero’s utilitarian looks. The shoulder-line curves gently across the length of the car until it gets to the C-pillar. Then it rakes sharply upward. Some may find the rear polarizing – in my opinion the weirdness is praise-worthy. Big wheels offer a tall stance and makes this an imposing car. You won’t have to shout if you stop beside a semi-truck, to talk to the driver. Door sills are high up, and there is a step to help you along the way. On the inside you are met with a Toyota-like ruggedness which is not a bad thing. The door handle is huge and the steering has solid grips and paddle-shifters. Gauges are sharp and clean, with white-on-black chrome dials and a multi-information display. There’s even a 220V AC power outlet behind the cup holders. The trunk is huge with a flat loading bay and no ‘lip’ for easy loading. This is a quiet, luxurious SUV with nice buttons and switches. The drive-mode dial in the center is finished in chrome. Interestingly, the turning radius is quite narrow at 5.6 meters. Power comes from a 3.0-liter V6 transmitting 285 Nm of torque to the rear wheels or all wheels via an 8-speed torque converter automatic. Rock-climbing will be an anxious affair with the delicate bodywork, but approach and departure angles are appropriate, at 30 and 24.2 degrees respectively. 215 Hp from the V6 means that this is not a fast SUV – the 100 kmph dash takes 12 seconds! But who needs fast when you can haul? This is a car for quenching your wanderlust. UAE prices for the 2019 Mitsubishi Montero Sport range from AED 75,800 for the 2WD GLX to 108,000 for the 4WD Premium Navigation Package. You will have to spend a minimum of AED 89,000 to get a four-wheel drive Montero. An optioned 2WD can be had for AED 80,000. Mitsubishi has birthed an all-round-performer with the Montero. There are no compromises on being an expensive, fully-loaded, comfortable, body-on-frame SUV. The eight-speed transmission utilizes the meager power very well. Fuel efficiency with 4WD is dismal, at 9.5L/100km (10.5kpl). However, don’t expect it to be clumsy like a bull in a china shop. It has forward collision mitigation, and, in the parking lot, it will prevent sudden or accidental acceleration. There’s even a simulated real-time, aerial-view camera. A highly capable flagship from Mitsubishi – a proper SUV.
