    Hi

This happened in Mitsubishi Pejro 2014 while driving the differential light blinks. I found the complaint in the sensor which is cominging in the engine room on right-hand side top which is fixed in body. After changing it the vehicle got perfect. After around 100000 kms drive the vehicle differential get locked while on 2H . The tech is telling to change that sensor once again or it may be the complaint on the differential shaft which is not  engages in right possible. Can any body give the reply

    Hi @shajikmc

in the engine room bay it is not a sensor, but the vacuum solenoids that are located nearby your air filter box.

Ideally when driving a Pajero, you should engage your 4H at least once a week, this ensures the system is not seizing up. Probably if you are not offroading and you kept it in 2H for 100000kms the system is stuck.

    There are three possibilities:

    1. The vacuum solenoids, like your mechanic mentions. These don't cost more than 250dhs and can be replaced in 10mins.

    2. the vacuum piston underneath the vehicle that engages the differential shaft. This is the one that can seize up when you are not using it for long time. (water/corrosion)...

    3. one of the sensors on the differential itself (less likely).

    Thanks, a lot @Frederic

it was a pleasant NYE, thanks for planning this, i think the location was good, it is not far, didn't need to deflate, yet we were the only ones there and we could see the fireworks, hopefully it will remain the same next year, in the morning i could see some constructions going arround.

Thanks @Ahmed Wagdy yes they are unfortunately building a kind of road over there (that was the location we used the year before, but had to move a bit further down this time). I hope we can keep finding nice spots for NYE the coming years as it seems it's becoming more and more difficult.

On a different note, we went to pick up our bonfire plate yesterday and found our spot to be completely clean and free from litter, which was such a nice thing to see. We passed by Townsquare on the way home and found massive amounts of litter people left behind over there unfortunately. I am glad our club and its members know better than that.

Great to see the signups, and glad to see old friends joining us that we haven't seen a while.

Good news: There is no need to deflate, but you will need to engage 4x4 and disable the traction. It will only about 7-8 mins on a dirt track / sabkha until we reach our sit-down point. I hope the skies are clear tonight and there will be no rain.

    See you all tonight !

    Hi

I own a Mitsubishi Pajero GLS 2017 (Odometer approx. 70k). I need help with two issues:

    1. a humming sound coming from the front of the vehicle as the vehicle is increasing speed, it stops when the vehicle is stationary (while the engine is still running). What could be the cause. I am in RAK and there arnt any decent mechanics here that I know of, so if anyone could suggest some good garage/mechanic please help me out.

    2. clatter noise from rear door, both when closing the door and while driving uneven surfaces

    Kind Regards

    Hi @Otoo

I assume your noise on the front is coming while the vehicle is in 2WD ? If so there aren't that many components that would cause a humming sound in the front. These are the rotating parts:

    1. tires and rims.

2.front axle (but is disengaged in 2WD).

    3. wheel bearings.

If you are really in 2WD, and the lights on the dashboard acknowledge this (only rear wheels should light up), then my suspicion would go to the wheel bearing. Please do check the condition of your tires and tire pressure as well.

Also it might be worth to test the 4x4 functionality by moving the lever to Neutral in standstill, and shifting the 4x4 lever to 4H, and drive a little bit. Then move back to N, and move the lever back to 2H (this procedure is recommended to perform regularly so your 4x4 solenoids don't seize up). Perhaps the humming sound is an indication that it's not completely in 2 wheel drive...

Pertaining to the clatter noise from the rear door, this could be just a hinge that needs some adjustment. While i do agree RAK has less workshops, there should be at least a handful of shops in RAK that could diagnose this. Another option is to head over to Ajman or Sharjah that has all the shops you could ever wish for.

    Good luck !

Since I bought my FJ new this year and have reached IM level, started realizing that the car is taking a bit of abuse (holding up super well mechanically!). While I love the car and the capability- was thinking maybe it would be wise to buy an older & cheaper car which I’d be more comfortable in pushing to the limits + adding mods if needed. (Latter is a no-go for me with the current car)

Below were some options in my mind (looking only at Japanese):

    1. LC100

    2. LC200 5.7l V8

    3. Patrol safari 4dr

    4. Lexus GX460

While option 1 is to get an older FJ, wise to consider any of these?

Good point you are bringing up. And many off-roaders come to this point to keep using the daily driver vs buying an off-road toy.

Capability wise if you want to keep the same performance specs as your FJ, only the Xterra would come as equally capable, and would be within decent budget.

My comments on the other ones you suggested:

    1. Older FJ. Resale value is still very high. Expect to pay at least 40kAED for an FJ that might need some TLC to get it fully serviced and ready.

    2. LC200 5.7. Heavy boat that has lots of power but you will be breaking more stuff than on your FJ.

    3. Patrol Safari. Quite heavy but reliable and stable on the sand. But very difficult to find a clean secondhand one that has not been revving in the redzone from morning till evening.... :)

    4. Lexus GX460. Similar to the LC200. Too fancy to abuse in the sand,

    Here comes my two cents:

    1. Keep the FJ and balance your off-road driving across different levels to minimize damages and repairs. Ignore this comment if you want to drive every week on IM level.

    2. Get an Xterra for 25-30kAED. They are equally powerful but be ready to spend another 4-5kAED to make sure it's ready for the desert. If properly maintained they can take a serious beating.

    3. Get an R50 3.5 Pathfinder for 15kAED and with some mods you can turn this into a real good dune basher.

Thought it might be useful to get some advice regarding essential tools for field repairs in the desert.

Any recommendations for wrench (combination, adjustable, socket wrenches) and ratchet (1/4 inch, 3/8 inch, and 1/2 inch drive sets) sets that are good quality and not too expensive? I drive a 2013 Pajero and plan to get wrenches and ratchets in metric but I guess there is an argument to also get some in imperial?

Also planning to buy some Philips and flathead screwdrivers, and pliers.

    Good topic @Emanuel

To save some space i mostly use adjustable wrenches, apart from a few popular sizes which i have as single pieces:

    10 - 12 - 13 - 17 - 19

Socket wrenches: i only have a small socket set that goes up to 13, Anything larger than that i use the adjustable spanners.

At home i have various tools and bigger socket sets (1/2") but never used in the during offroading or field repairs.

I can recommend the YATO brand which they sell in Speedex. Good stuff and not expensive at all. They have many ready-made kits.

    Hi @Frederic, @Davie Chase

    1. I went to an ACE hardware store yesterday and couldn't get the off-road flag. Would you have an extra flag as well for the first timers in addition to the radio?

    2. Regarding the tyre inflator, I saw different options - high power (connects with car battery using a jumper cable), medium power (operates with a cigarette lighter port) and low power (rechargeable battery type). Since I am new to this and not very sure how regularly I would be going for off-road drives, I feel I should take it slow and not invest in all the big and expensive equipment all at once. I decided to purchase a Xiaomi chargeable battery type tyre inflator (link: https://amzn.eu/d/3cJAi7X) since it seems easy to carry and is more economical.

Can you please suggest if this would suffice or I am making the wrong choice here. I went through the off-road gear and understand that heavy duty compressors would last longer. But I was not able to decide if I need something heavy duty yet or there's an alternate choice which I can make here and save some bucks till I get very serious about the activity. I would prefer something that is good quality but convenient to use/carry (low power but good quality preferred over high power but low quality).

Would highly appreciate your advice. Hope I am not being too much of a trouble, too many queries since it would be my first time with this group!

    Hi @Gagandeep

i have a spare flag with suction cup which I’ll bring tomorrow.

With regards to the compressor, I have those small rechargeable compressor as well which is only useful for top-up (from 30 to 32 psi for example).

I don’t think it will suffice to inflate 4 tires from 15 back to 35 psi. You can perhaps use it to inflate to 25psi and then head over to the nearest gas station.

If you decide to join weekly, you’ll definitely need a heavy duty model. Will post a guide below.
