Hi @Zixuan Huang - Charlie. Unfortunately we do not plan to take the brake anywhere near an exit point. There will be exit points available, but only in case of emergency, involving detours. You are welcome to take the full day drive, if you may. Thanks a lot for understanding.

Thank you @Ale Vallecchifor checking. I will not take this drive.

Hope I can join your other of your drives in near future, have fun

Finding a unabused one with the diff lock (Xterra off road version) is almost impossible now as the production stopped in 2015 - which came with the 4.0 V6 engines . The newer xterra with 2.5 L 4 cylinder , is a bit underpowered

Agree, but Xterra just feels quicker more powerful than The 4.0 Toyotas💨

and the newer Xterra is just ridiculous, when it came out in south east Asia and China with this engine, I expect Nissan will keep the powerful VQ40DE, for the Middle East region that cares nothing about emissions, but Nissan only keeps it for Patrol☹️☹️

  3. A friend of mine got a 08 American FJ for 30k, and that's market price for it... Absurd to me.

One reason could be that Japanese made Toyotas are more reliable, hence I doubt you will find a cheaper Prado with similar condition. Plus GX is just a more powerful, softer suspensioned Prado (I have driven both), no major difference.

If you are confident about your knowledge on used cars, have a look of 4runner/tacoma, made in USA but their reliability is trustworthy. Except 0 km ones, they usually come with minor/major accident from USA, some models with Atrac, rear locker, crawling control, same platform with Prado. And for 50k you will find near 2015 ones

Fortuner is a good one too, made in Malaysia, surely will be cheaper than FJ but driving experience is not as good as the LC platform ones, as Fortuner is based on hillux, it has diff lock option

Or go with Nissan Xterra instead 💨💨💨😈😈😈

@Zixuan Huang - Charlie your car was kind to you and loved you that he didn't strand you inside the desert. Atleast it ran to reach your home

yes we have a bond :P , I used to drive an old Volvo S60, that had engine oil leak, coolant leak, and some tramission issue, I never got dumped on road. Guess I m kinda lucky on this.

but truly thanks A lot for waking my car up that time, without your help I would have been going home by siting in recovery truck @Thomas Varghese

@Anish S I agree with Thomas, that you should have a battery check-up, the corrosion I had disappeared after I changed the dead battery, and I believe the summer heat more or less contributed on shortening the usable life of the battery, especially those of us who have been driving in desert during the summer time. and I just read that Fred had battery failure as well...

  5. Very enjoyable FB+ drive with @Anish S's favorite spot Lisaili, where we had a bit of everything, technical, long range, night drive and shoveling. Thank you Anish.

Good job @S Jacob, I never lost the sight of yours in my mirror, no matter technical or long range, you are very capable.

The rest are all familiar friends whom I have been driving with for quite a while, Good to see you all, and thank you being on this drive. @Charbel @Anoop Nair @Pacific @Chris Wing @Sunil Mathew

Long story short: my nice Blue FJ was a 4x2 model (yes not a 4x4). 😅

Not sure why but many Japanese 4x4 cars are sold as 4x2 in US, I have seen 4x2 Xterra, Pathfinder, Tundra, QX56, Armada, 4runner. Maybe more

My dad once got an 4x2 American tundra by mistake, and its for export to Africa, luckily the friend over there still accepted.

One common for those 4x2 is that they don't have the control nob/lever for 4wd system

@Zixuan Huang - Charlie you should have accompanied us to Sweihan to recover @Shaaz Sha's disabled car in total darkness last week. No special lights, no idea where we are going, no idea if we can even locate the car, no idea once we got the car repaired if we will reach the exit. It was fun. We accomplished all the tasks and came out and headed back home. The dunes of Sweihan rose like the Great Wall Of China, formidable and unscalable. Unfamiliar territory. The club Carnity and its able marshals trained us very well to tackle these kind of situations. No doubt about it. I can testify anywhere anytime.

It sounds very challenging yet interesting! Let me pass my Absolute newbie night drive first :P

  8. looking forward to my debut night drive!

This relates to my motivation to join a offroad club:

A week before my Absolute Newbie, I was with friends in Fossil Rock area, and struggled to find the way out as the sun started to come down, God blessed us that we eventually reached pylon just 10 mins before the complete darkness, but I was totally terrified that we definitly wouldnt make it out of desert in darkness

Right after I joined the club, I installed a small 20 inch light bar and replaced with brighter LED fog lights just for my sense of safety. and here I am, to test that if the lighting is sufficent.

My first time to sweihan. Should i refuel at adnoc sweihan since most of my fuel will be used in my drive from dubai. Did some research and it seems this one is closes to starting point

I came from north E16 to Sweihan today, and ADNOC 960 Sweihan is the nearest station, you should refuel it up there, Pajero SWB has a small tank I believe. @Adhir Saxena

  10. I reached home safely 1.5 hrs after being escorted to tarmac, (torturously driving 80km/r on 140 km/r highway ), the issue is more likely to be one of the cylinders not working, transmission seems fine. will have to wait till Sat to find out the true cause.

Thank a lot @Wrangeld and @Alex Raptor  for the easy way out, and everyone else's patient waiting.
