Normally, we do not do an exploration with a Newbie group, but I think that's a shame because it means that a lot of newbie routes are 'well trodden' and churned up by the time we get there. Margham is an area where there are not a lot of convoys passing through. The tracks we find are normally made by locals who use this as a cut through and this means that we can make our own way through, by trial and error to the end point that we decide. The great news is that it's an area where if we choose the track carfefully, we can take a Newbie group on the sort of adventure we normally reserve for more experienced drivers with many more drives behind them. I am not going to pretend that this will not be a challenging drive for Newbies. There are technical dunes, there are places with soft sand, there are parts where you will be pushed in terms of the height of the dunes and the need to use finesse and care to get through. But we can, and will do it. And if we make it as planned, we will drive all the way from Margham to Fly Dubai through unchartered territory. As a drive lead, it's an exicting challenge because it means I need to find the route where everyone can follow. My support @Lorenzo Candelpergher is one of the most experienced drivers in the club, who has masses of experience in helping newbies out of trouble and supporting their needs on the drive. Just make sure you turn up with the mindset it's going to be an adventure, that we will all get stuck and that we will all get out the other end having had a great time.

This is one of the newbie convoys in LIWA, what an amazing day !!

As the end of this challenging year is coming to an end, why don't we all share our favorite Carnity photo with a small description when and where it was taken and why we chose it. Mine was taken in Al Qudra on 21st of February (pre-lockdown) where Carnity really started to take off with convoys of 30+ members (split-up) and we could see a glimpse of the success recipe coming at us. We are seeing @Wrangeld and @Jeepie, @Vanessa8580 @tjsingh @Jun Zamora @AKR @Predrag acimovic @Martin. @Mels Wolf @Nivin@Jolly Abraham @Febin Frederic @IMAMP @Mostafa Taha @Srikumar @Gaurav and others i missed out on. Please mention your name if i forgot you Back then, no one would have thought that 10 months later we would be doing 10 drives every weekend and become the fastest growing Offroad Club of the UAE. Where other clubs saw their membership numbers declining due to Covid and the poor economy, we witnessed record numbers every week which i think is a testament to the motivation and willingness of our loyal members to keep joining us every week to explore the deserts in our backyard and beyond, and to the supporting members in our team to grow with us ! Trip Report: Well driving on a chilly morning through this area which is among my favorites is always such a nice experience, especially when all of you drove really well. Impressive stuff and how you all enjoyed the last loops and fast driving (albeit safely) was a treat to watch. Thank you @Vanessa8580 for your support and @Tamas Hoffmann for doing the center forward duty to perfection. We were greeted by Santa on one of the dunes which was a surprise @Goutam did his 2nd lead to perfection. Minor rerouting and redirections managed efficiently, well controlled driving. Fantastic stuff @bassel el rafei was driving his massive LC with minimal issues. Hope you get the TPMS sorted with your tires before the next drive. Well driven !! @Archibald Jurdi driving a classic TJ which is so nice to watch on the dunes. Fantastic control and how you quickly progressed and drove on the small ridges and criss crossing we practiced, safely. Well done @Tamas Hoffmann always great to have your company for a great attitude, quick learner and some nice self recoveries you do. Thank you for your support and all the beautiful pictures. @Anvar Sadath Bekal did well driving his pajero. As you do more driving at different terrains , you will get better at all that we practiced today. Just to always remind you and everyone in the group - never fight gravity, get on the ridge to ride before exiting and keep the right approach. Stick to these basics all the time. Well done! @MUHAMMAD Kashif RAZZAQ drove his yellow Wrangler beautifully. Having driven with you before, it was definitely more impressive driving by you . Good going buddy @Vanessa8580 joined us as a late addition on the previous evening and she is always a massive support on any drive , along with bringing in a lot of positive energy and enthusiasm . Another one from the archive. 7th Jan 2020, at the time this was the most sign ups we had on a single drive and ended up having to split it into 2 convoys.

Am very new to this community (my absolute newbie ride was in Nov 2020 ). Therefore that has to be my fav moment and pic for this year! @Ale Vallecchi using his baby FJ toy car for the briefing ... I felt this club/community was made for me ... fate! (a black FJ owner on his very first ride led by an expert FJ driver using a toy black FJ to teach us the basics) and the group also included @Gaurav ... talk about newbies being spoilt! I am old school. I write down each and every drive that I have done, with the date, location and leader of the drive.

I have the Deadman (still unused). So far (for me), the easier and most common way to get unstuck is being pulled gently by another car with a kinetic rope or a snatch strap. I wouldn't use the high-lift as an anchor point, because you can bend it, rendering it useless for its original purpose. I would avoid going offroad alone as much as possible.

@Mohamed Seidam, you’re a doctor, you can always get yourself unstuck 🤣 Now, for some healthy competition, we should count and see who takes the cup for crestings. I thought I was the absolute champ in that field, until your revelation, which got me thinking that I might have challengers out there 😜

Very true; sometimes though, the difference of being stuck and unstuck is a matter of a few centimeters forward or backwards I’m definitely saying it’s not ideal, especially in cresting situations, however, IMHO, it can be done. Bottom line is, if you’re gonna be stuck alone, it’s a good thing to have a positive attitude, and as many gadgets as possible to get yourself out. A combination of many tools and techniques might be your salvation...

I’ve seen these things being advertised but like mentioned what if you are crested on a dune ? As far as I’ve seen on the YouTube videos the anchor only works fine if you are doing a horizontal pull. In the case of being crested you’d be pulling on a sharp upwards angle and it would come straight out of the sand. On top of that all the YouTube footage I’ve seen were people stuck on places where I felt some shoveling and blip blip technique could have gotten them out easily.

25/09/2020 my first fewbie , first time I drove with @Ale Vallecchi ( zoom : middle of picture ) , my first time to ride the ridge and crisscross . and in this picture it was when we met with @Wrangeld in the relay drive somewhere in the middle ( lahbab to margham and Visa versa ) Great unforgettable memories with fine desert wanderers 🌷🙏🏻🚙

@Frederic this was the best time we had during precovid time where @Rahimdad our superman bringing hot aloo parathas & all trip leaders @Srikumar @Gaurav @Rahimdad @Frederic @Asif Hussain giving feedbacks and chit chat after the drive. Truly I was wondering sometimes about the deep secret of this magic that always bring me back to the desert.till today which was the “ straw that split the hump of the camel”. I sow it today in the desert through my little child ( 4 year old ) eyes when I decided to take him for a trip to Qudra lakes and ending ( not far ) on top of a nice small dune. He was so happy playing with the sand so do I , running and climbing after each other. he didn’t want to leave so do I.but finally we had to leave and he said dad please take me with you always to desert. Here came the straw and I was the camel ! Family , friendship , learning , determination , care , passion , enjoyment , curtesy patience and safety ( maybe more ) which connect us all in a strong bond toward the sand community. Thank you so much @Gaurav bhai for trusting in us and giving us the chance to grow in the Carnity Tribe. Thank you @Rahimdad bhai for your everlasting precious and sincere advices and guidance. Many thanks to all the seniors from marshals and experts whom I drove with and I got the chance to learn a lot which help me refine my skills. @Gaurav @Rahimdad @Srikumar , @Ale Vallecchi, @Wrangeld @Frederic @Brette , @sertac @Vanessa8580 @Jeepie ( forgive me if I forgot somebody ) Sincere and special thanks go to Dr. Chaitanya @Chaitanya D who was and always will be my colleague and friend on the on road as well as off road. It’s not wrong to have most of the offroad toys especially when solo ( not recommended being solo ) but what really matters is when to use and when not to use as in a particular situation one toy can be useful where in other might be afraid to say deadly!

Looks like some of the problems got solved yesterday once I changed the front differential oil , transmission gear oil & the transfer case gear oil. XTERRA is a very underrated 4 X 4 and I regret not owning one before. The car sails almost like my Altima now and the throttle response has become little more better even though I'm not 100% satisfied. The mechanic told me some XTERRA's have this lag and some doesn't. Can any one advise if its because of the torque convertor wear out? I have a hunch if this is the problem. By the way ABS kill switch got installed and all the other functions of the car looks normal including the 4Hi & 4 Low. All are functioning when I checked. Will know it better when we meet in Fossil Rock.

For solo offroading the winch with an anchor (this is a big and heavy item btw) might only work in firm sand. If you are really stuck, or crested, the anchor will not bring any solution. Secondary, solo offroading risks is not just about getting stuck, but your car can break down, you can start to feel unwell, or many other possible scenarios are possible so rethink if you really want to go out alone. Burying your spare wheel in soft sand will take a very long time, and the climate in UAE is unforgiving.

@Gaurav really I didn’t open the video . I want to guess or think , shoveling from under the car front or back depends on the inclination to let the sand fall toward you ( sand under tire not to touch in order not to loose balance , now we have all tires on ground and after that we start what ever is available low gear or diff lock ... etc

Hi Aus i am not expert honestly in those. But what I think that ground anchor needs a solid ground and we are doing sands mainly . I have seen ideas in you tube of digging a hole in the sand and letting the spare tire in and Berry it as anchor to the connected strap to the winch . I think@Gaurav and @Frederic can give specific opinion for the indications about it . cheers

I seem to have tracked quite a lot of my drives from the content I posted. So basically I went to "Manage Followed Content" on the Carnity web page and scrolled to any drives that appeared where I posted a message. Of course it may not show-up if one just joins a drive without posting a message or picture. Still it is tedious so we will wait for some sort of filter or database query option to make it convenient.

@Frederic thanks for updating my record , frankly my first drive with you when I don't even know how and when to engage 4x4 ,I learnt from you and second drive when @Rahimdad allowed me to side drifting ,I will always remember these I am greatful to you two and Carnity for giving me oppertunity and confidence to learn how to start driving in desert.

First with @Frederic second @Rahimdad third @Fredericwife and forth with @Wrangeld so three times ALqudra and two times Sharjah, what I remember 5 times , that is why asking

At the moment it's a tedious task to visit each calendar and check your RSVP. In future, we are working on an easier way to have all drives under one tab.
