  2. Dear Desert Wanderers, this RSVP is now closed. Please find below the convoy order for our drive: We will have the pleasure to have with us @Wrangeld, in one of the rare occasions when he leaves his duties as Carnity Marshal and takes the luxury of joining an Intermediate Drive for fun. So will do as well also @Kailas: I'll do my best to make sure we get as much fun as we can!! @Gok Krish, @Ashok chaturvedi, @Wrangeld, @varunmehndiratta, @Ahab Shamaa, @MUHAMMAD Kashif RAZZAQ, @GauravSoni, @Dodi Syahdar, @Kailas, this drive is going to be very demanding from a technical point. It will therefore require your full and undivided concentration at every step, considering we will spend a significant portion of the drive on the crest of high dunes, which requires constant instantaneous adjustments with throttle and steering, so make sure you come well rested and hydrated and that and you don’t have any reason for being distracted. Also, please consider carefully if you wish to bring passengers along with you. We will be using Carnity Channel 4 (446.08125Mhz) See you tomorrow morning, ready to go (i.e. already caffeinated, deflated, flagged and briefed) by no later 5:00am (sharp), so make sure you make it to the meeting point at least by 4:45am. The meeting point is confirmed as per original drive post: Al Qudra Pylon Track - https://goo.gl/maps/VurDujZbhkNZjGah7

  3. Pajero already having a front skid plate and protector if I'm not wrong. That should be sufficient for newbie level drives for as long as you want to drive. From fewbie level upward when you engage in lot of ridge riding, then having a better and stronger front bash plate make sense. Now how stronger and better defines the pricing. Anything from 6mm thickness to 12 mm thickness with or without base frame etc. adds up to the cost and fabricators love to sell you the most strongest plate needed to run for Baja challenge for newbie drives. You as a owner also need to understand and consider the weight of the plate and frame will eventually add certain kg on the nose and that will restrict your climbing capability at higher level. Adding 25+ kg on nose is not really needed when you can drive little sensibly than smashing your car into every dune. I have been driving with factory plate (2 mm thin metal one) for 6+ years, yes of course it used to bend quite often and at every oil change mechanic use to hammer it. In 2018 I installed the winch that demanded new bash plate so I went for 6 mm without any frame. As a new driver, here are my recommendations for front bash plate: Newbie drive = Factory thin metal or plastic or fiber plate is sufficient. Fewbie drive = 6 MM plate is enough Intermediate = 6 -10 MM is good enough depending on your driving style. Extreme = 6-10 MM with or without frame depending on your driving style. In your case rear plate is most urgent in Pajero due to the design flaw of rear bumper that act as a scooper to pull the bumper down. There you only need any metal plate to close the scoop as its not getting much impact at the back.

  4. For the long wheel base Pajeros like yours, the rear skid plate is definitely needed. The reason for that is that the Pajero it’s rear bumper design is working like a sand scooper and eventually the whole rear bumper might get torn off. This rear skid plate is an easy fix and many off-road shops can install one for you for about 300-400dhs. A front skid plate is interesting as soon as you start driving on Fewbie and above levels. It protects the radiator and front bumper against bumps and impact. These are usually costing around 1200dhs for a decent 8mm plate installed. With regards to the kill switch, I agree with you; if you are used to unplugging the ABS connector in the engine bay, this is totally fine. The kill switch would make things a bit easier but it’s not gonna make any difference. I think those same shops would charge around 150dhs for one.

  5. OK, Good, still I would test it few times. My close friend recovered me once and his boat towing point flew past just 1 feet away from my car and landed 50 meter ahead of my car. He gave the car for repaint and painter didn't installed the hook properly after dismantling and painting it, and I was counting my blessing to not to be in line of fire of that 5 kg heavy tow point.

  6. Good day, all I'm fairly new to Carnity - and desert off roading - having joined in April and gone on a few drives, so please pardon me if this is the wrong place to post! I have a friend in another club who has been advised to add front and back skid plates to his car, which is the same as mine (5-door Pajero). I remember when I joined this club reading about how 'free' clubs aren't always free because they want you to modify this and that, so I'm wondering how necessary and/or useful a skid plate is. I think my friend actually damaged his bumper not having one, but I've not had any issues (perhaps because I've only done the newbie drive). He's also been advised to add a kill switch but I think this isn't necessary because I've just been pulling off the plug under the hood to shut everything down. So the rate he's been quoted is like 1800aed is for the front and back skid plate and the kill switch. I guess my questions here are: are the plates necessary and should they be so costly or what? He's been told he gets a discount for being a member of a club (which immediately makes me think of what I mentioned above, with some clubs 'encouraging' you to make modifications. Any information or advice would be appreciated! Thanks

  9. I felt a good difference post changing the fuel pump, but not a game changer. the mechanic says it might be one of the gear output chips, but to be honest i am not sure. However, this is not the reason as i will ship the car to Jordan today where i will spend 5 weeks driving around the country northern mountains and southern desert (Wadi Rum). if you are planning to come along give me a buzz

  10. Hello Here is the new rear hybrid bash plate that offers a much better departure angle (around 40 degrees now) and looses all the spoon-like areas around the diffuser It also includes an inner cover to protect the lane departure sensors and the rear AC pipes The stock exhaust end just looks ridiculous as you can see, but that can be solved with an axle-back chrome-finished muffler and tip. Will share it once installed as well... and yes it will give it a tiny roar on low revs😉😉

  13. Like I said above, at newbie level, fiber plate are really enough. Once you are at fewbie, check your plate after couple of fewbie drives to identify the actual need as per your drive style. Front 6 mm looks very neat job, in case your Pajero heat up, increase the hole size or add few more holes in front.

  16. This works perfectly on your facelift model as you have 2 screens, the upper one which i guess only shows the useless nissan map will be used for the android module (off course you can switch anytime to your original display by pressing the back button) and the lower one remain the same untouched. The system, is running android 10, cortex A72 cpu, 4gb ddr4 ram, 32Gb eMMC. I Got a Data sim from etisalat on my same package, and connected it directly to the device using a 4g dongle. The main reason I got it is for using google maps/waze and Gaia gps without the need of an external screen or device. The system will connect to the cars speakers using bluetooth, as if you are connecting your phone to play music, however your phone will remain connected to the car's system directly as well for phone calls. ( In our cars you can have a phone connected to bluetooth for phone calls and another phone connected at the same time for streaming music) Basically what the device doing here is running an android system in parallel to the cars infotaiment system using the same screen, like switching the HDMI SOURCE at your home tV. You can see it and test it on my car if you like anytime you want.

  22. The pintle hook is still installed to the cross member, that plate was just added in between.
    1 point
  23. If this pintle hook is sitting on locally fabricated cross member, make sure to use dampers or support rope on every recovery. At least for first 10 hard tugs, to be 100% safe to find if this is fabricated and installed correctly.

  24. @Ahab Shamaa good point about not relaxing over safety. I remember a difficult moment at the end when some of us were trapped in a bowl and it posed a risk when arranging for an orderly exit.

  25. Amazing drive on Saturday morning @Lorenzo Candelpergher! It was a true intermediate level drive through and through. The terrain was amazing, the drivers were strong and the camaraderie was fantastic. The support team was extremely helpful and ever watchful. The trails and ascents were challenging and exciting. Engines roared, faces smiled, and we went on to enjoy a beautiful drive. As to which drive was better, the Extreme or the Intermediate one, it's impossible to answer. Each drive was great in its own right. This was my kind of weekend! Two fast paced, action packed drives 😂 A general comment from our Saturday drive; as our skill level increases, we tend to get more relaxed and confident. I'd like to remind my fellow drivers to still watch your speed, fishtailing and following distance... These principles still apply on all the drives See you all on the sand real soon!

  26. Agree and it’s very good one Beside this what I do especially in side slope , keep my eyes not far no close and rely on the peripheral vision . This makes the neck and shoulder to follow and the foot consequently steady . 😉

  32. See @Frederic …. Worth secretly purchasing and hiding from the wife (I had recommended this to Fred a short while back 😂)! I have followed this product for a short while and love the idea (previous it felt like cheating however have come to terms with going the easy route ) the observatory @Zed mentioned is the officially distributor for the product here and the owner on Instagram posts his captures from the unit often… I was super tempted also and just waiting to see if the new smaller version will be as effective (comparison is below) Meet Vespera, our newborn star Vaonis.pdf This would make our Astro nights a breeze and we could just focus on beers and bbq!!
