This drive had a certain "cachet", being led by the 2 docs @Hisham Masaad@Russ @Niki very reassuring to have such support on the drive - even though we kept you quiet Really enjoyed driving and seeing you all today, and well done everyone especially for the new fewbies !

Hi All, Planning to sell my beloved RR after a steady relationship of 9 years. Have driven daily for office commute and weekends in wadis and mountains in winter. Never been a fan of off-roading in desert hence never tested those wheels in sand. All major faults fixed over a period of time. AC and 4x4 working fine and passing done with RTA few days ago. If anyone interested in taking over this legend please let me know. Priced at 10k. Cheers.

Dear Desertnauts. The planning of Saturday's All Day trip is proceeding. At the moment, the following are the more important points to share with you, in preparation for the drive. MEETING, DEFLATION AND STARTING POINT It will be in Qudra. My idea is to meet on the sabkha adjacent to the big farm, accessible from the first roundabout on the road from Qudra's Last Exit to Bab al Shams. That farm is private property, and we cannot meet at the very beginning of the road that leads to it from the roundabout. I am deciding where exactly we should meet to avoid any annoyance from the security staff there. Instructions will follow soon. ITINERARY We will move from Qudra in the direction of Ghantoot, then around the military area to Little Sweihan, and from there to Faqa. We'll have a break in Faqa's dunes, before directing ourselves toward Al Jabib, and beyond to Al Hayar, in Al Ain province. I have not chosen to drive in Lisaili's direction to enjoy the more open, less driven, areas south of the Solar Park general area. This may end up being the longer itinerary, but it will also be less technical, and will allow a more "fluid" driving style. FOOD AND DRINKS We will have a picnic in a suitable, shaded location, among the dunes and a small forest of Ghaf trees. So make sure you bring your food of choice, enough drinks and any kind of refreshment you feel. Also, it would be best to bring something to sit on (chairs and/or mats). Wear hats, and sunglasses. We should take a break of up to 2 hours, depending on how the drive is proceeding, and the time of arrival at the planned picnic destination. FUEL REQUIREMENTS I am planning to cover approximately 100Km during the first segment to Faqa, and another 60Km in the second segment to Al Hayer. My car, an older model FJ, is equipped with a tank that drives for 200 Km of off-roading. Therefore I am counting on the initial full tank to last to the end of the drive. Each driver should check the maximum capacity of their tank, its consumption average off-roading, and make the necessary calculation, to decide if an extra jerry can should be necessary. An alternative possible solution would be to use 1 hour during the break (making it much less useful as a break) to reach Faqa and refill. i would prefer not to do this, as we'll have to prolong the drive excessively, reduce the relaxation time, and drive the second segment in less than ideal physical and mental conditions. It will imperative to refill at Qudra's ADNOC station before meeting, so that all tanks are full to the brim. That's all folks. Dear Desert Wanderers, this RSVP is now closed. Please find below the convoy order for our drive: @Thomas Varghese, @Waqas Parvez, @Vaibhav, @MMansoor, @Tareck, this drive is meant to be an easy going, mid-week night diversion from our routine working days. We will take it easy and aim for a relaxing evening in good company. Nevertheless, driving at night comes with its own challenges, especially if this is one of your first times, therefore please prepare to devote your full and undivided concentration at every step and make sure you come well rested and hydrated and that and you don’t have any reason for being distracted. Passengers are welcome, however be mindful about their ability to sustain long off-roading sessions without developing motion sickness. Also, remember that desert at night is populated by many animal species that you would rarely see during daytime, especially scorpions and snakes. For this reasons, please wear closed shoes and long trousers. As we are going to take a break and relax around the pit fire at the top of Pink Rock, bring along with you a mat or a foldable chair. Be mindful about having your meal during our bonfire break: do so only if you are certain you won't get car-sick in the following 2h drive: this especially applies to your passengers, which should be discouraged from eating at all. There's no need for you to bring anything for the bonfire: I'll take care of the required stuff. We will be using Carnity Channel 4 (446.08125Mhz). A friend of mine got a 08 American FJ for 30k, and that's market price for it... Absurd to me. One reason could be that Japanese made Toyotas are more reliable, hence I doubt you will find a cheaper Prado with similar condition. Plus GX is just a more powerful, softer suspensioned Prado (I have driven both), no major difference. If you are confident about your knowledge on used cars, have a look of 4runner/tacoma, made in USA but their reliability is trustworthy. Except 0 km ones, they usually come with minor/major accident from USA, some models with Atrac, rear locker, crawling control, same platform with Prado. And for 50k you will find near 2015 ones Fortuner is a good one too, made in Malaysia, surely will be cheaper than FJ but driving experience is not as good as the LC platform ones, as Fortuner is based on hillux, it has diff lock option Or go with Nissan Xterra instead 💨💨💨😈😈😈

I feel getting a unabused FJ in the year range you are looking for will be a tough task compared to a Prado in the same year models. Prados are more likely to be driven on road or to malls than the FJs. This in turn means the 4by4 system is virtually untouched which u can use on sand We have had members who have made it to extreme drive levels with a prado so you should be fine with some min mods as Fred suggested. Atrac is not available on prado , but the rest including a diff lock which is most important is available on the Prado ( 4.0 L versions )

Ex FJ Cruiser here: - As commute vehicle, yes it works, but they are having limited visibility issues in traffic, and quite thirsty. - The prices are high, but they are extremely reliable as long as they are well maintained. - The rear differential lock and A-trac are nice to have but not really needed. If you look for the Toyota Reliability and want to have a daily commute AND capable offroader, did you consider a Landcruiser Prado ? The 4.0L model has the same engine and frame as the FJ cruiser, you would only need to trim the bumper a bit and put some bashplate. But it would be a far better option as commute vehicle.

Hi @varunmehndiratta. Thanks for the suggestion. I appreciate it. I had considered it, but the only problem with that is we would be always driving across the slip faces, making the drive more difficult and tricky in the long run. We will still plan to exit early enough to reach home well in time for dinner. 🍀 The Dubaians would still have a longer sleep and later wake up, anyways 😉 so total time spent driving to and from will be the same.
