Drive Report Dear Friends @Rsjiv Samuel, @ShereenMK, @MMansoor, @Josh T., @Charbel, @siddharth maheshwari, @Javier Lucero @Sunil Mathew @Russ @Pacific What a blast that was ! literally every one of you was super amazing today. the entrance to the meeting point was tricky that we almost all missed it and had to return to the new early entry Despite that all arrived one after the other and in no time , even @Javier Luceroand @Pacific Arrived already flagged up and deflated as they entered a point earlier , we reminded our selves of the golden rules of desert in an open air brief after which we moved at around 15:50 Unfortunately @Josh T. had to exit after few kilometres due to persistent tire issue following the rule of better safe than sorry. it was a pleasure meeting you . After Wishing him happy new year we moved again and we vanished in between the dunes. Long loops in spaghetti fashion riding the ridges in between crest breaking and criss crossing and side sloping . What a pleasure to see the whole convoy over moving while I am retuning to the next point. Sections of technicality entailed slower pace and gentle gas and control . till we crossed the cycle track zigzagging some magnificent rock formations and to the pylon track to loop back and re entered the desert from the eastern point of Bab shams heading back north in the dark now. For some it was their first night drive portion and I have to say I was impressed by the convoy response which was willing , enthusiastic and vigilant in the same time. It was a no rope drive and the only stuck which flavoured the afternoon was my own one in the technical section when I crossed up/down in a tight double ending my front on a bush. With the help of little shovelling from our friends the Xterra was back on action 😊 @Rsjiv Samuel your second lead was superb responding quickly and in a time even it’s done before I finish my suggestion in precise way . Well done . @ShereenMK nice meeting you pal I believe you managed your LC in this drive nicely . Keep it up @MMansoor second time we drove . You did well I believe and you managed your Y62 smoothly. @Charbel @siddharth maheshwari @Javier Lucero and @Sunil Mathewhearing you seldom on radio says it all special thanks to @Russ for being in this drive and your presence in the middle was super support in itself . As I am mostly on my phone and love the apps, I managed to find a solution using RSS feed that works for me😎 . I have tested this on an iPhone and am pretty sure it will be similar for other operating systems. If anyone else is interested these are the steps: 1) Download any RSS feed reader from App Store/ Play Store. 2) Open the app and click on "Add feed from keywords" 3) Add the feed URL "https://carnity.com/discover/all.xml" and tap "All Activity" 4) Click 'OK' on the confirmation. 5) You can see all the feeds come through. Note: 1) Please login normally as you would do on carnity website, so that the page doesn't keep refreshing. 2) You can enable/disable notifications from the RSS feed reader app.

Dear @Beide Worku, unfortunately you cannot be admitted to this drive and I had to remove your name from the RSVP. As every new member in @Carnity you are supposed to join an "Absolute Newbie Drive" as your 1st drive in the club, which is a drive specifically designed for absolute beginners, who are driving off-road for the 1st time or are anyway driving for the 1st time in the club, even if with previous experience. After completing an Absolute Newbie Drive, you'll have access to any of the Newbie drives posted every weekend. Please understand this is for your own safety, as during the Absolute Newbie Drive every new joiner is carefully assessed and guided by a Marshal, who also checks your car's worthiness for off-road use and will advise on the minimum required gear.

San, @KKIRAN, @Clau Co, @Melenany, this drive is going to be a an exciting exploration of the well known Al Qudra area, across a variety of terrains with multiple stops at interesting locations. The weather forecast shows a fairly clear sky in the early morning with increasing cloud cover with chances of rain and wind gusts towards the end of the drive, so it may get interestingly unusual: please make sure your wipers are in good working conditions and you have a full windshield wiping fluid tank. The drive will require your full and undivided concentration at every step, so make sure you come well rested and hydrated and that and you don’t have any reason for being distracted. We will be using Carnity Channel 4 (446.08125Mhz). Our meeting point shall be along Bab Al Shams road: https://goo.gl/maps/Dba5v92cWg8SXYWKA See you tomorrow morning, ready to go (i.e. already caffeinated, deflated, flagged and briefed) by no later 7:00am (sharp), so make sure you make it to the meeting point at least by 6:40am. Dear Desertanuts, @Mark D, @Mo., @Markus B, @Tareq Al Turq, @Justin Ng, @Nathan, @Harshad Ashraf, @Azeem M, @Quresh Motiwala, @Rajat Verma, @ASAD. and @JERINE_B, as mentioned in the body of the drive's post, just North of Badayer, West of Big Red, there is a slice of desert which is mostly left untouched by off-roaders, but is "inhabited" by locals, who raise camels, but mostly use it for their own crossings, as well as for falconry. It stretches from Lahbab, west toward Margham (to Skydive and nearby). It's made of a mix of open sand cordons, low technical areas, a small area of sand bowls (the closest to Badayer, where the sand turns from yellow to red), and some areas with more abundant vegetation. A small hidden gem to explore in a leisurely way. This is the locations and terrains that we'll explore this Friday. Considering the rather junior nature of this convoy, we will do our best to maintain a relaxing pace, and will do our best to give everyone the opportunity to become more and more familiar with the basic techniques of dunes' straight crossing, and side sloping. Hopefully we'll enjoy the view of some camels, gazelles, and perhaps falcons being trained. Please reach the meeting point a few minutes in advance of 7:00 am, to start deflating, mount your flags, and get prepared to start on time. I will announce the final convoy order and radio channel tomorrow evenig. In the meantime, enjoy the evening.

DTC: The Winners' Route - Drive Report "Destroy your reputation. I have tried prudent planning long enough. From now on I will be mad" - Rumi Following the first Carnity's DTC, on the wings of my disappointment for a not brilliant finish, and following my own analysis and self-criticism of that drive's dynamics, I had promised myself to engage in more technical drives, as opposed to what may have become my signature long range drives. The latter tend to shy away from technical areas, while the former measure one's driving skills on a whole different scale, where finesse and control are much more important than raw speed and fast lines. Hence, what better opportunity than a very competent Intermediate convoy, to go back to the scene of the crime, and relive the action, looking for a different outcome , at least from the chronometer point of view, while following the route blazed by the DTC Champion Richard @Wrangeld? So we did. We set out to follow as close an itinerary as Richard's, from Waypoint 1 to 5, driving, as Gaurav mentioned, "as the crow flies", and ditching my Desert Wolves team's track, originally designed to be longer, yet supposedly more open, less technical, thus faster. The specific DTC route also had the benefit of a prequel and a sequel drive: the first to reach the DTC's starting point from the Solar Park meeting point, and the second to get back from the DTC's finish line to Qudra, via Solar Park. The prequel was meant to work as a warm up, and the sequel as a cooling down. These two drives within the drive were as fun for me as any other drive I had had in quite some time. The nature of the convoy allowed us to make phenomenally good time during both segments. We drove the first part, to reach the DTC starting point in 24 minutes, covering 13.6 Km at a speed of 33 Km/h, without any stops. The third segment of the day, from the DTC's finish line to Qudra lasted 1:42 hours, covering 43.3 Km, at an average moving speed of 31Km/h (and was cut short by a mechanical issue of Archibald's Jeep). Once reached the DTC starting point the convoy lined up alternating IM's with Support Team members as, s follows: @Sunil Mathew in SL, followed by @marks, @Archibald Jurdi, @Gok Krish, @JeromeFJ, @Rawad, @Lawrence_Chehimi, @Amir Amiri, and @Dodi Syahdar in Sweep. Getting right to the performance, these were our own private DTC stats: 33 Km driven, in 1:08 hour, at and average of 30 Km/h. The 3 reasons for this phenomenal drive were, in order of importance: A - We followed a pre-scouted route, blazed by Richard, with a strategy that not only 1) exploited Richard's familiarity with the area (driven in support of many of Gaurav's Leaders Lead sessions), and 2) his expertise in technical driving, but also 3) his choosing to discard prudent planning, and go for the most daring, and challenging track. With this in mind, I would like to make a diversion from the report, and highly recommend each new Leader in the Club (present and future ones), to always scout the location of a lead, if you have not been there before. Just looking at maps is not enough: before taking a convoy in an unknown area, there is no substitute for a recce drive (with other advisors, or higher ranked members). It will insure the success and complete safety of the drive. B - The convoy drove perfectly, with the utmost concentration and display of skills, recording only 1 quickly sorted refusal throughout the whole route. C - looking at Richard's recorded track, and considering the quality of the convoy, we managed to cut a couple of corners, from Waypoint 2 to 3, and from 3 to 4, straightening a couple of curvy lines that Richard was evidently forced to take, further reducing the driving time. In the end, I'd like to thank the convoy members for such a fun day out in the desert, like I hadn't had in while. Looking forward to always more challenging drives, I wish all of Carnity a great Holiday Season, and a brilliant New Year.

SEHA Accepts walk in customers but you have to take an appointment on the app at any day slot and make the payment online. Once you are in SEHA center you can show that you have made the payment and they will accept you. SEHA is not accepting cash payments anymore. I would have participated for this drive if my PCR test would have turned GREEN instead of RED. I had been to Khawaneej center on Christmas day with my kids for a screening as they had to return back to Abu Dhabi and did a test just for the heck of it and now am stranded at home. It seems you can be Covid +ve even if you are seemingly 100% healthy. Lots of asymptomatic cases. By the way Khawaneej center was full - never seen this anytime I went there to take a PCR test and took me almost 2 hours to get the screening done. SEHA test results are taking around 24 hours now.

Sorry I am unable to attend the drive. I got a close contact to a covid positive and have to isolate for a few days 😔 Take care and stay safe. Happy new year to all 😊
