I added myself again to the WL. @Mohamad Anwer i think at this point my pajero will have to come to the drive even without me ( its more of a personal thing to her now.. i think it has to do with the Japanese pride) 🤣

Hi all, I recently switched from OEM wheels and H/T tyres that usually come on the Pajero 265/60/R18 to 265/70/17. I have a 2 inch lift kit. In my first drive after the upgrade, I noticed that there is rubbing especially when I am steering left and right and descending. I can see parts of the fender liner that rubbed off. What can i do in order to get some more space between the fender and the tyres? I am adding here the Pajero experts for advice as well. @Gaurav @Frederic@GauravSoni. Oh please no I wish I haven’t said it it . ..you don’t wana know which kind of drive was next morning . It was one packed action drive of IM in area 53 with fastest lead Carnity ever knew 🤣… the MOI and kids was ain’t in UAE they were in holidays at Jordan 🇯🇴 😅

Totally agree!!! This drive would demand a lot of focus and a good night sleep is absolutely recommended….

This technical drive what @GauravSoni is about to engage you in guys is extremely demanding and entails full concentration. You need all the time to rest at ease the night before . That’s my advice .

@Gerrit Bus thanks for the effort to edit and compile, it was almost like going through the drive again. Even better if fact, as being in front part of the convoy I hadn't the opportunity to see some of these situations developing and getting resolved. I know its a time consuming job to go through hours of footage to pick the interesting parts and put them together - much appreciated! 👍

Hey mike! There is a marginal increase 3.6% or 1.1 inches increase in the diameter of the wheel. So shouldn’t affect so much… is it running on the mud flaps or the inner lining … do u see tyre marks on the wheel arch? have u used any spacers ?

Unfortunately the only fewbie + slot is in abu dhabi and I takes 4 hours on the road + 4 hours off road so it's very hard to join

I don't think so if i join the night drive i will be able to the morning one @DP1011 , Deepak wrangler. Honestly i wish to try the night drive as i never tried it before. with the new big light bars i installed recently, it will be enthusiastic. 😉

Good evening all, Here's is the plan for the upcoming drive. South Side of Qudra near Solar Park is a paradise for Criss-crossing. So until sunset we will be attempting to practice endless criss crossing and by the end of this session try to master criss crossing. We will be taking couple of long breaks to try and not exhaust our energy. Post sunset, will be driving with our lights all the way to Last exit. Looking forward for meet you in 2 days. As COVID cases are rising, we will be ensuring that everyone wears a mask when ever stepping out and taking breaks. Cheers!

yes agreed bigger tyres are heavier, as you both rightly said so, everything has its pros and cons but other than the rubbing issue which is really minor, the traction on the car now is at a completely different level. In the last drive with Ale, I was mostly on 3rd gear and very rarely on second when not in “D”. With those new A/T the car feels like a tractor now compared to the skating ballerina feeling with the H/T Thanks Thomas for looking out. I can sense ur protective nature in your message. Will keep your message in mind at all times. I’m not doing any crazy mods and not planning to. The White Rhino has a reputation to keep

@Joseph Raju I see you have signed up for dr Seidams drive which ends at 1.30 am… this drive would start at 5 am. Are you sure u can have your full concentration in morning after an already demanding drive? I highly recommend you reconsider… I don’t want a situation where u cannot make it for the drive after confirmation.

Rightly said @Mike.… these machines are our boy toys!! We do these mods to make ourselves enjoy the ride…and every mod has its own good and flip side..what @Thomas Varghese says is also right which is the loss of power due to the heavy tyres but it shouldn’t matter as long you enjoy your ride.. it’s not a competition of who can climb higher or go faster…you probably will have less chances of pop out with more side wall! And better traction during self recovery..

Thanks for the input @Thomas Varghese. don’t look at it as a setback. It’s still the same White Rhino, still very capable I have an image of a rig in mind which I’m executing and I’m almost there. Trust me it’s even more capable now. Hope to see u on the sand soon and Ull see for yourself.

What shall I say mike? U had a beautiful Pajero which could have given @GauravSoni's tuned Pajero a run for his money. I seriously doubt with these investment on tires you can push the car. U can say an investment gone bad. Do u still have your original rims and tires? Put them on. This mod you can sell to other enthusiastic offroaders and lessen your loss. Lots of forums are there where people who don't know anything are experimenting with all sorts of funny contraptions and finally realise they made a fool out of themselves. I'm not saying these experiments are unnecessary. I'm only saying cars are serious machines and the manufacturer has put in so much R & D when they produce a car. When you try to alter a constant other variables has to be changed. I don't know any serious modifier who knows what is he doing in UAE.

Didnt you mention that you upgraded your tyre from a 265/60/R18 to a 265/70/R18. In that case the width of the tyre would remain the same. Was the 18 inch rim offset different from the 17inch?

I also dont miss terms like "approximately" before finish time mentioned, for drives😂, Approximatelt doesnt guarantee it to be timely 😄

Actually it finishes at 01:30 😅 last summer I have done it but the finish point of the night drive was just opposite the start point of the morning next day . Managed to sleep for about 2 hours in the car . Honestly i was extremely tired after ending the drive. But no regrets 😄

If it's marginal rubbing, only on full turn, you can choose to ignore it, as it won't damage your tire or fenders. I have had the same for the last 12 years in my Pajero and each tire set last 2.5-3 years with regular off-roading. If it's not on full turn, then some corrective action is needed: Widening your wheelbase By spacer By diff wheel offset Lifting a tad more. With spacer With bigger springs by 0.25-0.5 Inch

@GauravSoni Regarding his tire rubbing the fender inner liners is not because of this 1.2inch dia difference. I suspect it has to do with the setting of the suspension hardness or softness. Most people doesn't know how to do it by themselves whereas its a simple procedure if you ask the technician who fixed the lifted suspension.

@Islam Soliman - I see another amazing level up drive coming up the way 🤩 with 6 ppl ! I got high expectations like the last week's one ! You made last weeks NB drive challenging and this one is FB+ , so am curious to see what's up your sleeves for this one 🤘

@Gaurav there is no rubbing in normal steering even at full angles. I’m guessing that’s marginal. I’ll try to find a way to push away the fenders as the rubbing is only happening sometimes when steering almost full and suspensions are compressed at the same time. Thanks for trying to help though!

@Srikumar the tyre width is the same as I upgraded from 265/60/18 to 265/70/17. The original rims however were 7.5” wide and offset +46. The new rims are 9” wide and offset zero

Dear Desert Drivers, On Saturday morning, we will explore the South West part of Al Qudra. Starting from the track where most of us have done our Absolute Newbie drive, we will pass the Moon Lake, and start the drive with the tall dunes just behind. Nice rolling dunes to warm-up and enjoy the sunrise. Then we will cross the cycle path and the pylon track to enter the Ghantoot area. Expect more narrow dunes, sharp crests, soft sand. We will find our way along the long dunes cordon until we reach the fence making the end of this area. Depending on how we progress, we will either turn back a bit, and exit close to Bab al Shams, of reach more directly the E14 to the South. We have good chances to spot oryxes, have your camera ready ! I will finalize the convoy order tomorrow afternoon, let me know by midday in case you changed you plan.

There is nothing we can make out from the above pics. Sorry. Take a pic of showing how much tire is impacting against the fender, along with at what percentage of steering. What I meant is "ONLY ON FULL TURN" = Marginal, as you will only drive any vehicle at full turn lock for less than 0.1% of the vehicle lifetime. I know I have a full lock turn issue so I steer at 90-95% of steering while making u-turns.

I meant if confirmed for Night drive 😀? Wonderin how will you be able to do both I wanted to join for night drive, then saw it finishes 1am !

@Jessica Lambert I use an Insta360 One X2 camera with an invisible selfie stick mounted on a Fat Gecko triple suction mount. Footage is combined with some footage of my iPhone 13 Pro Max for the close-up digging shots.
