Dear Sand Sailors Thanks for RSVPing for the drive. Believe @DP1011 , Deepak wrangler has already summed up how fast the slots went through - really appreciate the response and i am hoping we will be as swift during the drive as well Area 53 is one of my fav GOTO place when in need for that additional adrenaline shot. Dunes in Sweihan are surely higher. However, its the shape and irregular contours of the dunes that brings out that mixed/confused sense of accomplishment and humility at same time, after every drive in this area. With 5 days to go for this drive, lets get to the business.. This terrain is going to demand some clear ground rules and preparation. So, lets be sure about the same before we land up at meeting point on sunday. To put things in perspective, Faya's highest point is 223mtr above sea level and plan here is to spend most of our time 200mtr above sea level - so it will be like climbing Big Red & Faya over and over again, at a fast pace. a.) This area demands exceptional Radio communication skills. One miss communication and the whole convoy can be stuck for a long haul. So, please make sure you are very comfortable managing radio. 1. No Radio = No Drive. 2. No sufficient battery in radio = No drive 3. Missed communication and we might have to exit the driver. I am sure you all appreciate that safety is paramount. b.) Unless fully convinced about yours and your vehicle's climbing ability, avoid passengers for this drive. Keep the vehicle light and your mind free of any distractions. I can assure you, this is not a drive which passengers will cherish. c.) Please make sure your vehicle is in perfect shape. You will need all the power that it possess through this drive. d.) Ensure you have all your off-roading gears in perfect condition. e.) Coming back after a long break from sand - in general my advice is always to go for FB+ or FB drive, before going ahead for Int. drive. Ofcourse, this is just a recommendation based on experience. f.) Above all you need to ensure that you are fully rested for the drive. So, plan all parties for friday (not saturday night) 😀 Another, key element - based on my experience in this area, i am not going to extend the convoy size on this drive. We have 8 drivers on WL, so please ensure that if your plan changes or you are not sure about your plans, please update the RSVP well in time - lets ensure we don't lose a slot while we have a long WL.. Hahahah this drive is all about driver skill all these vehicles are well capable of treading through this treacherous terrain (or atleast that’s what @Carnity wants me to say .. keeping unconscious bias aside 😃😃) Important note - plz ensure you have all you need to keep your vehicle electronics in check - traction control, ABS, air bags etc … I know it’s intermediate drive and by this time you all are supposed to know these, still experience suggest ppl at times miss out on these criticaL elements so just a piece of caution.

I had cooper long ago once AT2, and they started losing chunks of tire tread within 1 year. Seems Cooper still hasn't perfected the rubber blend for UAE heat.

I have been in this drive before in F+, and I know why @varunmehndiratta wrote those ground rules 😬😁 i have nothing to say! but I’m bringing 2 shovels 😅🤣

Haha lot of jeepers on the drive list this time, might as well let them do their thing. We need to make a pact with our siblings (other toyotas) & cousins (Nissans) 😂 On a serious note, idea is to have max fun in the safest way possible. @varunmehndiratta thanks for the prep talk. Cant wait for the drive to start.

Repping the toyota prado crew is something i love to do @Waqas Parvez, but unfortunately party Saturday night means I wont be fresh for the challenge this time round. Trust you prado boys will fly the toyota flag!!! (ps, of course not a race or competition, but keep those jeep boys in check)

When you get Geo's if you can get LT AT tyre it should give better side wall protection due to the 10 plies, but it is extremely difficult to find even though it is listed on their catalogue. What they offer as standard is AT but not LT. When I tried to find one, the vendor Juma Al Majid had it in their inventory list but physically it was not LT. In the end I went with Arroyo LT AT which has performed well till now.

You can get the Geolandar AT LT tyres in US system of 30", 31" tyres. The LT tyres are heavier than the regular AT tyres, but don't know if the side walls have been further reinforced.

I have the Rydanz Raptor tyres, which was not my initial plan (tyre dealer confirmed me he had Yoko G015 in his shop, only to arrive and see he only had G056 HT tyres). I got the 285/75/16 which are a bit too big to my liking, but so far the tyres have been doing great. They offer great traction on the sand, but are a bit noisy on the road (Yokohamas are much softer and smoother ride). Price wise (285/75/16 Rydanz was same prices as the 265/75/16 from Yoko) they are pretty good, but once they are worn i will go back to Yokohamas to get that smooth ride again. The Rydanz are heavier and would do fine in wadis as well and that's why i considered them.

Come on guys you have to have a pajero on this drive.!!!! It wont be as exciting 😔 I am sure@Mohamad Anwer agrees with me 🤣. P.s i have 2 shovels 🤣

My experience with cooper AT3 was noisy onroad, shaky handling above 110km that I once thought something broke under my car, and yes weak sidewall, had a fist size of bubble on one of the tires that I never had on HT offroading, which is very strange to me. But offroad it did give me more grip which I could clearly feel, and it has one of the best look among AT tires in my opinion now I have been using yoko geolander G015 since 40 drives back, around 20k kilometer on the dash. couldnt been more satisfied with the tire, moderate noisy onroad (cruising at 130-140kmh) almost no effect on handling. Never had one single popout, absolutely zero hassle tire to me, I run 8-10 psi with stock rim. Plus its cheaper than mainstream AT tire. The only con could the it looks just as gentle as a HT 😁. I see that Rydanz Raptor AT has been receiving positive comments, anyone has experience with it?

Thanks Brette was thinking of going with Cooper for my next change.. especially as not many companies have options with R18 on ATs. This is really good feedback to have

I changed from the stock Dunlop to the Yokohama Geolandar A/T G015, original size 265/70/R17 in June. Very happy with the change !

I have been using Cooper AT3 since 2018. Just replaced 2 tires recently because I suffered a foot long cut at the side wall on one of the tire. Thankfully it was not deep enough to puncture the tire. Based on the collective experiences here, looks like AT3 may not be suitable for wadis. I have enjoyed the ride on the tarmac and sand.

Have also heard the kumho AT tires are good. The BF is good no doubt but extremely heavy and made more for rock climbing or overlanding.

@Brette, I guess it’s going to be BFG for me then next. My luck with the Yoko Geos has not been great either. With cuts on the bead lining, and a fully ruptured sidewall on two separate MY2021 tyres barely 12k kms in, I’m not the biggest fan of Yokos either but they are the best of what I can find.
