  1. @Frederic @JeromeFJ- it’s times like these, I wish I’d paid heed to my parents, when they were pleading me to study harder 😂 #younerds🤓

  2. Food for thought on the long way to the starting point. Where exactly is that line of the Tropic of Cancer ? The Tropic of Cancer is the most northerly line, where the sun can be observed vertically on the June solstice. Because I didn't realise until yesterday that Fred had included the track and the waypoints already 3 weeks ago in the drive post, I was trying to locate this famous Tropic on my Gaia map. And so... the position of this line varies over the time, as a consequence of the movements of the Earth (tilt and spin). Ok, not a huge variation, but still noticeable. In 1917, the latitude was 23,45091°N (23° 27' 03,289" N), in 2047, it will be 23,43425 °N (23° 26' 03,292"), and next Saturday 18th Feb 2023, when we will start our drive, it will be 23,43836°N (23° 26' 18"). Looking at the map, the average line proposed by Fred is slightly above the line on that day. On the ground, it represents around 1.2 km. It means that we can comfortably allow ourselves a variation of 1.0 to 1.5 km (rather to the South) we will still be on the Tropic of Cancer itself ! Thank you again @Frederic for the amazing preparation work for this overlanding trip. For sure it will be epic ! See you all on Saturday !

  3. Fantastic post @JeromeFJ ! You are right, and i must admit that the prep-work i did for this dates more than 1.5 year back, and took the coordinates from a site somewhere. No doubt we will have plenty of challenges on that straight line to deal with See you soon ! Sorry to hear that @Beide Worku ! We still have a few months of pleasant weather so i do still hope the best for you to have your fill in the overnight stuff. @Mus_hus78 this means you are the next one in line, are you in for this ?

  4. Glad you managed okay. My car is still at the doc, seems the simpler the part the harder to find it on the shelf. See you soon.

Kindly let us know by EOD today (update the rsvp) to enable us plan accordingly. @Tharun Kumar V @Mike M. @Ishak @Pranjal Varsani1 @Mark B @Krishna R @Rajat Verma @Glenn W @Gary F @Zubair @Juzer Gandhi @Yaseen87 @Abdul Basit Khan @Rashid Alseeni @Daniel Rodas @Sayed Bilal @Andrei S

  16. @Frederic I don't know what I did to piss off the desert gods, but it looks like I won't be going on any overnight carnity drive this year. My car is still at the doc needing more love so I'll bow out of this one as well. On the flip side, one soul from the WL is in for a wonderful surprise. I'm counting on you guys to make the right offering in my behalf while out there so they'll look upon me kindly again Enjoy it.

  19. Hi @L. Petelczyc As @M.Seidam mentioned with metal on metal be cautious of thread issue. Have tried multiple options - one that has worked best is metal mount with a quick release flag holder.. aor flag split type or flexi type has regular issues with thread, small thread cap with heavy flag - I went to off road zone and they had really good flags with long thread pins. Used 2 aor flags in a year (split types) lost threads and have been using off road zone one for more than a year now with quick release has been going good. Again no right answer, soln that worked for me has failed for many.

  20. I will join the chorus and congratulate + thank you @Varun Mehndiratta for the super drive you led last Saturday. it was virtually a nonstop, highspeed, heart thumping and exhilarating drive from the word go and kudos to you for keeping it at that fluid level throughout the time we were driving. It was nice to see the entire convoy bringing their A games – absence of refusals and/or major stuck was testimony to everyone’s skills, focus and resilience. thank you @Hisham Masaad for the support. Your presence in any drive lifts the mood and morale of the whole convoy to another level and Saturday's was no different. @Beide Worku - trust your ride is all sorted without much hassel and is fit for the adventure awaiting us coming weekend - hope to see you there. @Naveen Raj @Gertjan @Vaibhav @Simon D @Tareq Al Turq @Ranjan Das @Mohamad Anwer was nice meeting you gentlemen; your company made the drive even more exciting. My adventure continued a bit longer. In my rush to rush home pushing my dear jeep on the expressway around 130 kmph; was about to reach Al Faqa when my front right tyre gave up. Spent couple of seconds in 1. realising what just happened 2. to keep the jeep steady and the toughest part 3. to steer the jeep on to the left kerb in evering speeding traffic. Those were some anxious moments - thankfully i and my jeep were safe. Most probable cause as per the guys at the shop was the tyre taking a beating or going over a nair/barbed wire - well that's history as my girl has new pairs of shoe to sport and one spare too . Most thankful to @Waqas Parvez and @ASAD. for stopping and extending their support - thank you guys and really appreciate the gesture. Eventually had to get a ride for my ride to end the ride - that's perhaps overdoing a bit ... already looking forward to the next one!

  21. @Frederic unfortunately it seems i will be having a business trip next sunday that will prevent me from being part of the much awaited overlanding experiance 😢. so i will drop my name from the going list and giving the opportunity to the other on the waiting list to enjoy this experiance . 22. Hi Ranjan, yes we will planning on going to the below ADNOC to refuel, either at the end of day 1 in the evening, or in the early morning of Day2. This will ensure we can all start day 2 with a full tank again. https://goo.gl/maps/ChPFSo6mZ1M5W6HU6 That will depend if we can reach it before end of day

  23. Good morning all ! @Gaurav@GauravSoni@Naveen Raj@AlexM@Beide Worku@Ranjan Das@munkybizness@Foxtrot Oscar@Simon D@Ashutosh Garg@Srikumar@JeromeFJ Thanks for signing up for this expedition ! As mentioned on the drive topic, this will be an overlanding drive with the aim of staying as much as possible on the TOC line, (max 500m deviation), except where we are forced due to fences or underpasses. This also means this cannot be considered as a dune bashing drive where we hop from one bowl into another bowl. Of course, if we come across some nice bowls on the TOC line we will gladly enjoy them This week i hope you all prepare yourselves and your trusty 4x4. As mentioned on the drive topic please take note of the following things below: Maximum of one passenger allowed - No exceptions and trip lead will send you back. Make sure that passenger has no fear of heights, motion sickness and have been to full-day off-road drives before. Everything in your car should be strapped and secured - All vehicles will be checked by the trip lead. Drive Preparation: Your car should be in 100% pristine working condition, so double or triple check everything. Full-size spare tire with a lug wrench to match your wheel nut size and its depth. For aftermarket rims - Your lug wrench also needs to match the wheel nut depth. 5-10 liter of water per person per day. Snacks for breakfast, lunch, dinner and next day breakfast/lunch. Keep your car as light as possible by packing what is truly essential. 2 Fully charged radios with spare battery and all other required off-road gears. Gas tank and required number of jerry cans should be full upon arrival. Fuel requirement: 6 Cyl cars = 100 Liter (Minimum) - 120 Liter (for more fuel-guzzling cars) 8 Cyl cars = 120 Liter (Minimum) - 140 Liter (for more fuel-guzzling cars) Carry an additional required number of jerry cans based on your car fuel tank capacity. If you are not sure about your RSVP, please re-confirm and check as we have some people in the waitlist. Enjoy the rest of the week !
