  1. @varunmehndiratta I will kick start this discussion again after the Liwa camping/trip being planned!  That way we can revisit this topic with everyone having tried a night in the desert plus driving - see if it’s still a combination people enjoyed!

thankyou for getting this topic started up again! @Carnity take this as a gentle reminder we are eagerly awaiting the Liwa proposal.

Ok to clear another confusion before searches grow exponentially and people spend money on what they don't need.

Installing winch will actually reduce your hill climb capability. Before 2018, I used to climb Faya from center every time and after installing winch it become 70% success and 30% fail attempt. Think again :-)

Thanks for mediating my posts attempt at humor :) … critical we don’t have folks install for this sole purpose! … @Srikumar advice of stripping down weight is top advice though I sense he was aiming that at my stature vs my FJs 🤣

I love how you threw the bait @Gaurav and got all the big fish on the hook.. and now popcorn prices are sky rocketing 🤣🤣

And limiting seats on the popcorn-terrace  he has us scrambling to instal winches just to qualify as support.  Google searches for winches + Dubai just topped daily stats!

Power-to-weight seems the Achille's heel of Y61, according to its published specifications the max power of a TB48DE engine is 280hp and the  Y61 SWB gross weight is 2700Kg which yields close to 104 hp/ton .... add to its gw the load of things I've installed in it, I would have to install turbo and upgrade ring/pinion 😆 just to try making it to this challenge!

Hi Mario, I think the stat goes by the curb weight (no passengers but full tank of fuel and standard equipment).  Yours is just a little over 2tons so you have all the power to attempt this challenge!

  5. Thankyou @Gaurav - this is a humbling reality check!  I have the power/weight (@135hp/ton) but not the credentials with regards history of climbs!  Nor do I come armed with a winch as a support member! 😢 …. I will drop from the attendee list, however if a ‘runner’ (slow middle aged version) is needed to support winching etc - count me in.  I am also skilled on a keyboard so can document and post in real time the performance of the team for all to enjoy (I will work on taking flattering profile pics also!)

jokes aside - this is a moment for all who signed up to be self critical and ensure they are ready this time round (am certain the event will happen again, especially after it is renamed the FJ Bowl!)

For tiny bit little more cooler weather, so that we can have full day FUN - especially outdoor.

Will also call all fitness freak to help going up and down the long hill with ropes and winch line.

Fitness freak + adrenaline junkies …. This is the absolute opposite of me!!!!

I am desperate to visit this area as you know @Gaurav…. If I haven’t developed a 6pack or courage by this date can I come to document the events on video!… though after one drive with @Srikumar- he called me boring and threatened to push me down ‘Pajero bowls’ … renaming it FJ bowl to force me to play!

@Frederic you realize there is a bortle class 2 site near there (I thought I had found even a class 1) …. The purest and darkest skies!! … bonus Astro night is calling!

Speed junkie @Alex Raptor this is made for you!

  7. @Srikumar thank you for that wonderful first Sweihan experience - I am eager to go back once mother nature removes those bulldozer tracks! I appreciated all the support and guidance you and @GauravSoni provided allowing me to keep improving as a Support Team member.

Thank you to the full convoy with their brilliant attitude during the difficult periods (appreciate the patience and willingness to help each other!).  @Joseph Raju we hope you got home safely and that pop-out/tear was a lesson for all of us on the importance of keeping a good condition spare tire (and tools).

@Richard Franks hats off to you as SL, with the many re-routes caused by the digger tracks, that was a demanding role to play today and you were superb!

@Sudhanva Sonawane @Adnan Halepota @JAISROCK @Julian Pattersonin front of me and were excellent and took instruction perfectly, never fishtailing and handling the terrain well - a lot of confidence built!

@Brendan White directly behind me - was great to be on a ride again and it seems we only join the eventful ones! Another super drive and evidence again you a highly experienced 'newbie' :)

@Zed @Serafino @Thomas Varghese @GauravSoni making light of being at the back and its always a joy being on a convoy with you guys and those extra-ordinary-shovels Zed brings out to play!

See you all on the dunes soon!

@Zed - I want your LC100 protected and you'll understand why when you see what you can command in the US for it! - Jonathan Ward is in my opinion the greatest Resto-Mod guy ... and his Bronco's, LC100's and FJs are dream cars for me (he's slowed down LC100s due the difficulty of sourcing clean ones int he US)!

    Motorola cost 150

    Kangda cost 300

Not much for trouble free drive experience with better range, battery life and clarity of comms.

Thanks Fredy for introducing me to Kangda, so far it's amazing since almost a year now.

@Frederic @Gaurav  can you share a supplier for the Kangda?  (quick search didn't show any options locally).  ridding of interference is well worth the 300!
